Genre Favorites Blogfest and Ninja News!

Today is the Genre Favorites Blogfest!

But before we dive into the fun...

Ninja News!

Big thanks to those who voted for CassaStar and CassaFire on Goodreads’ BestScience Fiction/Space Opera. Last I looked, CassaStar was number three and CassaFire number four! That is just awesome, as I know the ranking will gain them even more exposure. My books are now in very good company. And if you missed my post on Friday and would like to vote to move the books even higher, the link is HERE. (And CassaFire could use a little help!)

Cate Masters kicks off her blog tour today for Death Is A Bitch. Congratulations on the new book, Cate!

Milo James Fowler just sold another short story and has a sixty-one percent success rate. (Yeah – whoa!) To celebrate all that and passing the three hundred sales mark, he is giving away his short story collection 1 Dozen on Amazon. Congratulations, Milo – you are an inspiration!

Genre Favorites Blogfest!

One blogfest, four favorites!
List your favorite genre of:
Movie
Music
Books
And a guilty pleasure genre from any of the three categories!

My favorite movie genre: Science Fiction

I’ve always had a fascination for space, adventure, and imagination. Look up at the stars – not only is our universe vast, but anything is possible. To watch those possibilities unfold on the big screen is pure magic. For two hours, I get to live the dream! (Without the risk of being blown out an airlock or anything.)

My favorite genre of music: Progressive Rock

Prog rock features complex dynamics. It’s not simple – it challenges you as a listener. With each listen, I discover more layers and the music gets better. Prog rock resonates and stays with me for many years after that first listen. Unlike popular music, it continues to sound fresh. As a musician and guitarist, I appreciate the work involved and the incredible results.

My favorite book genre: Science Fiction/Fantasy

I read to escape, pure and simple. Those two genres provide an opportunity to let my imagination roam free. Don’t need heavy details – just enough to drop me in a new world and allow my mind to envision a place beyond reality.

My guilty pleasure genre: Romantic Comedy Movies

Yes, I risk losing man-points! Romantic comedies are all clichĂ© and feature the same formula plot. But if the leads are good and possess chemistry, I enjoy these films. Hey, there are benefits to watching these movies with your wife…

Thanks to all the participants today and those who helped spread the word. You can still join us – sign up list is below. Be sure to visit others participating in the blogfest.

Thanks again to everyone who voted on Goodreads! Following Cate’s tour or picking up Milo’s book? And what are YOUR genre favorites??

I just voted and your books are now #1 and #2! Not because of my vote. They were already ranked when I got to the site, so how cool is that? :)

Best wishes to Cate Masters for a great blog tour, and congrats to Milo on his recent sale. Also, thanks, Milo, for offering 1 Dozen for free on Amazon.

Great turn out for your blogfest, Alex. I love romantic comedies, too!

RaShelle, YOU rock!

Hart, that makes you uber cool.

Milo, I don't know about that, but I'm trying.

Susan, glad you had a good time.

Capillary, glad you enjoyed it.

Lynn, thanks so much!

Looks like your 1 and 2 on the Goodreads list now.

Your guilty pleasure surprises me a bit, but that's okay. I can kinda see it. :)

Congratulations on being #3 and #4.

I like alternative rock. Don't know progressive rock. I'll have to look it up.

Wow...Alex, I forgot all about this blogfest...that sucks for me. I could easily agree with your fisrt two choices, however I would probably have to go with:

Action/Thriller as my first movie genre choice, Die Hard/Taken type of movies just ramp up the adrenaline.

For music I would have to go with alt/rock for the more part. Green Day, Tool, Alice In Chains...etc. Really make me listen and never get stale no matter how often I hear them.

For books nothing really is tops for me...I love sci-fi and I get deeply into alternative non-fiction like any book by David Foster Wallace. Label that as you will.

Guilty pleasure would be off-beat or cult-type movies...Heathers, Donnie Darko, any Coen Bros movie, Where the Buffalo Roam...all fit this bill for me.

Cherie, I know! Wild, huh?

Theresa, it's the best thing out there.

Lisa, glad you enjoyed the entries.

Chuck, no worries! Donnie Darko was a cool flick.

Congrats on the Goodreads success, Alex! By the way, I have to say this has been one of the best blogfests from a reader perspective I've seen in some time. I've commented on so many 'genre favorites' posts this week ... mostly because I'm such a TV and movie junky. But still. :-)

Hahahaha, on the man points. I laughed out loud.

Fun post. Well done, Ninja Sir.

Hey Alex! My post was late, just posted it today...congrats on the success of your Cassa books! That's fantastic! I do like your choices and your RomCom guilty pleasure reminded me that I forgot to put About A Boy on my movie list! Oh well...there isn't time or space to list everything we like eh? Thanks for all your hard work and hosting another fun fest!

Damn I missed another blogfest. I blame it on the cable guy for not coming the time he was suppose to. Romantic Comedies are pretty good (especially when there is a hot female lead).

I am almost done with the current book I am reading and then it is no to CassaStar.

Too late for Monday's blogfest link but I enjoyed doing my post, including those guilty pleasures. http://cassmob.wordpress.com/2012/09/19/genre-favourites-blogfest/

Haha I'm starting to think that Rom Coms are everyone's guilty pleasure. I have never been able to really get into sci fi with the exception of certain films like That Tom Cruise movie where they can predict when people die. Never really read any sci-fi though...perhaps it's about time I picked up CASSASTAR!

YAYA you're number 1 and 2 on goodreads!!!! CONGRATS!!! I haven't voted yet because it might be unethical seeing as I haven't read the books but once I do I'm sure they are headed for the 5-star shelf!

Popping in to say hi. Haven't had much time for blogging lately. Hope your blogfest is rockin'. Love romantic comedies. :)

EJ, that's good to hear!

Whisk, no laughing.

Eve, glad you had a good time. About a Boy is a good movie.

PTM, thanks and hope you enjoy it! Sorry you missed the fest.

Avantika, thank you! Hope you enjoy it that much.

Candy, goo to hear from you.
