Epic Ninja News, Movie Review, and Kela Thinks I’m Famous

Special Feature and Special Request!

Kela is the sweetheart who runs Teardrops on my Books. Tuesday, she honored me by saying I was famous. Thursday, she featured me in her Thursday Tag HERE. For your amusement, I invite you to read my answers. Thanks, Kela – you rock, my friend!

I have a very special request of the Ninja Army. Not for me, for my friend Andrew. I’d previously mentioned the book he did for his students, Charter Shorts, which goes to benefit the school.
Friday is the last day for Briane's Star Wars Trivia Marathon. Andrew is in second place but can still pull out a win with some help. If you go to Briane’s blog and state that you Champion Andrew, he gets an extra 10,000 points. (And it’s been an ongoing thing this week, so if you’ve already commented on an earlier post, you can comment again on the latest one.)
Thanks to all who showed their support for Andrew! Championing is now over.

Epic Ninja News!

This is what happens when I skip posting just one day…

Candilynn Fite has started a monthly contest, Follow My Lead – and the prizes include a fellow author’s books. This month, it’s Roland Yeoman’s End of Days. Awesome idea, Candy!
Here’s the basics:
Entries must be original work of the writer.
Only one entry per contestant.
300 words or less.
The piece must follow the prompt provided, but may sway in any direction.
The contest piece should be written about the image, in some form or fashion.
The prompt should be used in the story and included in word count.
Ends June 30, 2012

Jamie at Mithril Wisdom has more fun at work than I do – they created a zombie game app that works with Google Maps. Visit his site so you too can send zombies to attack your friends where they live!

The awesome Arlee Bird at Tossing it Out is looking for people to hijack his blog! If you are interested in doing a guest post, contact Lee.

Author Bryan Thomas Schmidt lists Five Great New Epic Series for Your Summer Reads. And hey – my Cassa books are listed! Thanks, Bryan.

Michael Abayomi had some great news about his 6-part epic fantasy series, Guardians & The Lost Paradise: “The first two chapters are now on display at The Lost Paradise as part of my about-to-be-launched Indiegogo campaign to raise enough money to produce all 6 books in the series.” Good luck, Michael!

The ladies at Falling for Fiction (Cassie, Jade, Hope, Kelley, and Jenny) are hosting the Hookers & Hangers Blogfest on July 16 and 18. Go HERE to sign up!

Rick at The Writer and the White Cat announced that starting the first of July, White Cat Publications, LLC. will begin accepting submissions for their new magazine of urban poetry titled Nain Rouge a Journal of Urban Poetry, Prose and Art.

Lydia Kang is hosting an amazing giveaway – critiques, books, and Amazon gift card!

JA Bennett is hosting a two hundred followers giveaway – Amazon gift card and a critique!

Heads up! Since the next posting of the Insecure Writer’s Support Group falls on the USA’s Fourth of July holiday, we will be posting BOTH Tuesday and Wednesday of that week.

Movie Review

Immortals
Finally saw this on NetFlix. Glad I waited.
This movie misses the mark on every level. It’s poorly edited and constructed. Everything about it feels odd. Even the special effects. The worst part is the goofy costuming. My wife commented that in one scene, the Oracles looked like matching salt and pepper shakers. Part of the problem is this movie takes itself way too seriously. Directed by Tarsem Singh who directed The Cell and… not much else. The best thing I took away from the film was that actor Henry Cavill will make a good Superman in the remake.

Don’t forget to visit Kela You guys are awesome!

Whoa! Participating in Candy’s monthly contest? Ready to unleash some zombies? Reading for some summer reading? Feeling lucky with a contest or two? Did you lose part of your life watching Immortals? Both Brave and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter come out this weekend – seeing either of them?

my goodness, so much is going on in the blogging world!!

psst! You ARE famous!

Thanks for the shout out, Alex. It's been a long day and a half, and I am currently suffering from some serious sleep deprivation. But I just wanted to pop in (before I hit the sack or pass out, whichever comes first) and let you know that I am truly greatly.

P.S: I haven't seen Immortals, but your review makes me kinda glad that I didn't. Might still give it a watch one lazy afternoon, but I'm not exactly holding my breath till then. And yes, Brave is going to be awesome! :D

Kela McClelland said...

I'm tired, and it's late and I should be in bed. Lol. But I just wanted to say, thank you again for doing the interview. And yes, you are famous. :D

Have an awesome weekend :D

Tonja Drecker said...

Whew! I'm going to have to read through this a couple times to get it all.
Congrats on being famous - how cool is that!

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Lynda, no I'm not... Just a Ninja!

Michael, you're welcome, and don't hold your breath or you will pass out.

Kela, thank YOU.

T Drecker - sorry! I didn't post Wednesday and the news snowballed.

George Beremov [Nebular] said...

I actually liked Immortals. It's no 300, but it had stunning visuals and it was an above average sand and sandals epic. The Gods costumes were funny though.

Old Kitty said...

My head is dizzy with all these happenings in blogworld!!! Off I go to have a lie down now! Yay! Take care

Mina Burrows said...

Great contests. Thx.

I'm taking my kids to see Brave this weekend. I'm so excited too! I'm bummed some of the movie reviews about Abe Lincoln/Vamp Slayer are bad. Like 2 something stars. It's disappointing. Oh well! Have a great weekend Alex. :)

I tried out the Jamie's app. It's hilarious and works on European addresses too. Try it out!

Elizabeth Spann Craig said...

Thanks for getting us caught up!

Yeah, Immortals isn't sounding like such a great movie...

Anonymous said...

Wow, so much happening!

I want to see Brave so badly - friends from Nova Scotia and Florida and I even tried to coordinate our schedules so we could all be in the same place at the same time and watch it together. Alas, it didn't work. I'd still love to see it, if I can convince the husband to stay home with the littles AND find someone around here to go watch it with me. Movies are never as much fun alone!

Annalisa Crawford said...

Lol, I'm off to send zombies round to my friends houses.

Great interview, by the way, Alex.

I've already championed Andrew.

Thanks for giving us an extra day for the IWSG post.

Championed Andrew, but Briane added comment moderating so I'm not sure if it went through. Some great Ninja news especially Michael. He's got some serious ninja writing and music skills.

Laura Eno said...

You have awesome ninja skills, Alex. I championed Andrew.
And as part of your army, we already knew you were famous!

Karen Baldwin said...

Can I borrow some of your time? I don't know how you do an extensive blog, then comment on everyone else in the world. You are not only famous, but amazing!

Suze said...

I'm trying to decide, now, if I'll watch Cavill's 'Superman,' when it comes out, or if I'll wait until I read your review. :)

I championed Andrew, but man is that comment thread getting overly-dramatic. Due to one person.

Tonja said...

That was a lot of news.

Budd said...

yeah, I didn't really thing the Immortals made much sense. I thought it was pretty though, but that is the only nice thing I can say about it.

Tasha Seegmiller said...

So I was going to champion Andrew and then I saw Michael there and I can't split my vote but I know both of them. I think this is called inner turmoil.

Morgan said...

The other day on fb, I told Cassie Mae that I think your next book needs to be a romance novel. And Cass can be the heroine, entitled Cassalove ;) Hahaha... okay... lame, I know :P

Off to visit that fun interview of yours! :D

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Thank you, Lass!

LG, yeah, I just expect a lot more.

Thank you, Teresa.

Maurice, it went through!

Laura and Em, thank!

Suze, if you trust my judgement...

Joshua, yeah, it is. Thanks though!

Budd, one of the few things.

Tasha, that's all right.

Morgan, it would be funny though.

Jack said...

I've heard of the Immortals. I think, is it based after a book?

Won't be seeing Brave yet, I'm waiting for some reviews on it as I'm not sure what to think of it yet. I'm really hoping it is good because it looks like it might have a lot of promise.

Rusty Carl said...

I gave Andrew all I've got. It hurt to give away all my points. I felt like I still had a chance. Now I know what politicians feel like when they bow out of a race.

That's a lot of links, but I'll visit them all as these are amazing bloggers and people.

And we will see Brave today. Hopeits a winner. Looks like it could be a cookie cutter story or one that is a Frankenstein, a movie pieced together from other movies.

Ella said...

cleemckenzie said...

I can't keep up with all these contests. Is everyone on the planet having one? Thanks for warning against the Immortals. One less movie to see.

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Miss Jack, the reviews say it's not one of the better Pixar films, but most are still positive.

Rusty you could keep one point. Then if everyone blows it, you'd win with one point.

Stephen, they say it's not original but still enjoyable.

Ella, not now! It's so HUMID right now...

Michael, it just really fell short.

Cassie, you're welcome. And you're drooling on my blog...

Lee, just take it right off your list...

Nancy Thompson said...

I voted for Andrew. I got bad vibes from the previews from IMMORTALS and never tried. All the reviews seem negative for poor Abe, but I will watch for myself ... since I did enjoy the previews.

Can not imagine how you keep up Alex, then again they don't call you Capt. Ninja for nothing! Off to check out Andrew and make him my champion. Ninja army rocks! Looking forward to Lincoln: Vampire Slayer, have not seen Immortals and probably won't now. Have no time for any contests...SO much to do and so little time! Got a special visitor coming in less than 2 weeks :D

"Matching salt and pepper shakers." Hilarious. Your wife got a thousand cool points for that.

Thanks for the news. :D

I'll be sure to check his blog.

Immortals was...weird. The costuming for the Gods - awful, but I Red Box'ed it... so I went into it knowing it'd be bad, and didn't mind it too much.

For some reason Snow White and the Huntsman bothered me more. Probably because I excepted it to be awesome, and it didn't get there for me. The main reason: I really, really wanted more of a connection between Snow, and the Huntsman. *sigh* Oh well.

Cherie Reich said...

I would like to see Brave and Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, but I think I'll be catching up on editing and writing this weekend instead.

So much Ninja news happening. That's actually a good thing. Great things going down with members of the mighty Ninja army.

I have not seen Immortals and will certainly give it a quick look, although your wife's comment about the costumes looking like salt and pepper shakers will be stuck in my head and when I see the Oracles I'll laugh hysterically :-)

My Chipmunk wants to see Brave so if we don't see it this weekend I will try to make it a bonding movie for the following weekend.

Have heard a lot of good things about Abe the Vampire Hunter. Hoping it will be a good movie. Still not sure if I will foot the money to catch the flick in the theaters.

Well, you have a rocking weekend and two thumbs to your wife for that killer observation. I loved it!

I'd personally like to see Abe the vampire hunter but I'd read the book first to see if the movie measures up.
So much happening, always does in the blog world, it's just that some cats doze off and think the world has stopped spinning, too.
I wish I had known about the championing part. And bad of you to tempt me with a FF contest, and Roland's book as well. Sigh, if I could break through that glass ceiling.
I liked your wife's observation. :D

Greetings Alex. J. Cavanaugh,
Yes, it's me, your biggest starstruck fan, quivering with nervous anxiety at the thought I would be here, yes here, typing away again, to the famous and lovable Alex.
I note your links and in regards to Arlee Bird (catches the worm), I have told him I must decline hijacking his blog and do a guest posting. I modestly informed him that it would be not fair on any other guest posters. I know he's 'devastated' that I wont guest post. Somehow, I think he will get over it.
And because I'm such a nice guy, Kela will be thrilled to know I'm on my way.
All the best to you and all your starstruck fans.
