His world is unraveling…

Bassan’s father is stepping down from command. His best friend almost dies when Bassan freezes. Now, he’s being sent across the galaxy to speak at an important conference. Despite saving the eleven races years ago, he’s paralyzed by doubt. Could things get any worse?

Once there, new acquaintance Zendar convinces Bassan to visit his planet for a humanitarian mission. Bassan’s special connection to ancient technology is the key to saving Zendar’s people. One problem though—it’s a prison planet.

On Ugar, he discovers things aren’t so straightforward. As each truth reveals itself, the situation grows more desperate. If he can’t find the right answers, he might die along with Zendar’s people. Can Bassan summon the courage to be a hero again?

Movie Reviews

A Quiet Place Part 2

Just as good as the first one, this movie picks up exactly where the other one left off, with a quick flashback to show the invasion of the aliens. Many tense moments, made more intense as the characters split up and face new challenges. Couple times I wondered why the person was doing that, but overall an excellent film that is worth seeing in the theater.

F9

Dumb and over the top, just as expected. The scene in the previews with Dom and Letty’s car catching the rope and swinging wide over a large canyon? Nowhere near the craziest stunt in the film. They bring back many characters from the past, which is fun.
If you are a fan of the series, you’ll enjoy it.

The Conjuring III: The Devil Made Me Do It

The least of the three films so far. Not bad, but they pose a question throughout the film and then never resolve it! Frustrating. Glad I saw this at home and didn’t pay money for it.

I have an awesome guest next weeks, so be sure to stop by.

Don’t forget the Insecure Writer’s Support Group Anthology Contest is now open! Genre – sweet romance, theme – first love. See the site for details.

See you next Wednesday for Insecure Writer’s Support Group post day!

What do you think of CassaDark’s cover? Seen any of the movies? Ready for IWSG day? Happy July Fourth to my American friends!

Congratulations to you!!! I love the cover. It shows you still can write about your characters when you thought you were done. I will pass on all 3 movies. Too scared to watch the first one and the others look dumb. I am not into the Fast & Furious because it looks just...too stupid for words. I saw the trailer where he drives off a very tall building. I bet the car still land nicely and he can keep driving.

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Natalie, appreciate that!

Birgit, that's nothing compared to the car going into outer space...

Thanks, everyone!

Cool cover and big congrats! Nice way to zoom into summer. I wish you big success.
Haven't seen Quiet Place II yet - I do like Emily Blunt.
As you saw by my F9 review, we do agree. Just wild stunts and old friends. Good combo.
Hope your summer is treating you well - enjoy. And Happy and Safe 4th weekend ahead.

Congratulations! Great cover!

I also liked Quiet Place II, and loved the quick flashback. It was super confusing for a split second seeing a certain character. Looking forward to F9, and I'll be watching Conjuring III at home.

Love the cover of your newest book. Congrats on the release.

I haven't watched any good movies lately. Seen a couple duds though, lol.

Sherry Ellis said...

So cool that you have another book coming out. I hope it does well like your others!

I hope you had a good Fourth of July! The cover to your book looks really neat. I like the title too. I haven't seen A Quiet Place II yet but want too. I'm just not sure if it's still showing in my area. I heard somewhere that, I think so they can catch up with their movie release schedules, some theatres are going to only play certain movies for no more than two weeks and those movies are then going to go to streaming. I could be wrong though. I hope I'm wrong!

Chemist Ken said...

Congrats on CassaDark! I'm glad it's finally coming out.

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Liesbet, enjoy your visit to Belgium!

Donna! Good to hear from you.

Diane, thanks!

Cherie, not my favorite either. That's still number five.

Thanks, everybody!

Major congrats on the book and its cover, Alex! (military allusion intented)

Congrats on mentioning 'Platoon', which I loved, rather than the more universally lauded, 'Apocalyse Now', which I didn't like re the over-the-top insanity

As always, thanks always for the support for of our writing hangups and insecurities

Chiming in late because yesterday was moving day. Thanks as always for the movie reviews. I'm looking forward to Old and Black Widow. Happy writing in July!

Late reading this - Congratulations! It sounds great, the story line engaging. Hopefully, he finds the courage to break-free. How to decipher the code?

That is an amazing cover, Alex. Because I am a fan for twists on vampire movies and tales of mothers protecting their children, I am looking forward to BLOOD-RED SKIES, criminals take over a commercial airplane and discover it is unwise to threaten a child of a woman struggling not to be a monster in front of her child. Thanks for reading the first 3 chapters of my Vella.

J.H. Moncrieff said...

Congratulations on the new release and awesome cover, Alex!

Very happy for you.

I liked the Conjuring 3, but certainly didn't retain much of it, which says something.
