New Trailers – Diablo 4, Stranger Things 4, and more! Plus Kvelertak – Splid, Movie News, IWSG Anthology Contest, Mini-Alex, and Movie Trivia Answers

Trailers!

Some great trailers for movies, shows, and games in the past couple months!

Diablo 4
Why aren’t the game animators allowed to make a movie? Why?!?!?!?! It would look so amazing.

Stranger Things season four
I knew he was alive!

Black Widow
This looks like a lot of fun. Just forget that she’s dead.

Wonder Woman 1984
And in case you totally missed this one!

Kvelertak - Splid

Here are the ingredients to make your own brand new Kvelertak record:

1 new lead singer
3 guitarists
1 cup of piss and vinegar
A bunch of attitude
1 tbs AC/DC
1 tbs Slayer
1 tbs Sex Pistols
1 tsp of blackened Norwegian metal
1 tsp of progressive metal
Shake liberally

The result is Kvelertak, doing what they do only much stronger this time around. This is their best album since their absolutely stellar debut back in 2010. It’s a party album, a workout album, and a crank it to eleven album in the car.
These guys throw so many musical influences into the blender and it works to perfection. Most of the singing is in Norwegian, so I have no idea what the songs are about (could be evil, could be puppies), but it doesn’t really matter when the finished product is so much fun and crazy.

Movie News

RiffTrax announced their live shows this year!
Hobgoblins on June 11.
Amityville 4: The Evil Escapes on October 21.
The Kickstarter campaign is open for fans to make these films happen. Which they did in just nineteen hours!! Too awesome.

Production begins on season two of The Witcher, adding seven new cast members. According to JoBlo:
The Witcher became an enourmous hit late last year for Netflix with 76 million households watching at least a few mintues of the show. Because of this, the streamer was able to declare it as the service's biggest first season for an original series ever. The show is based on the popular book series of the same name by Andrzej Sapkowski and it explores the legend of Geralt of Rivia.

The Golden Schmoes were announced:
Avengers: Endgame was the favorite movie of the year.
Worst movie of the year – Cats. (And it hits DVD next month if you are just dying to know how they could possible screw up such an iconic play!)
Best director – Sam Mendes for 1917. (At least fans got it right.)
Most over-rated film of the year – The Lion King. (Yes!)
Most under-rated – Alita: Battle Angel. (Considering how popular the graphic novel and animated film, this movie really got overlooked.)
Biggest surprise was Joker. And Joaquin Phoenix scored best actor.
And most memorable scene in a film was Captain America lifting Mjolnir in Avengers: Endgame. (With Iron Man’s ‘snap’ second.)
For a full list of winners, see JoBlo’s site.

Knives Out comes out on DVD February 25. This was a great whodunit film – you definitely want to see it. Just buy the DVD – trust me, you’ll enjoy it!

Jumanji: The Next Level comes out March 17 on DVD. Not quite as good as the first, the sequel was still a lot of fun.

Tara Tyler’s Cradle Rock has been re-released!
Why is this movie news?
Because the upcoming Pixar film Onward is really similar to Tara’s Beast World.
And with the re-release of the first two books in the trilogy (her publisher folded and she had to publish the third one on her own last year), Tara is taking back Beast World!
Find Cradle Rock on Amazon
Oh, and JoBlo reviewed Onward and gave it six out of ten, saying it was good but definitely not one of Pixar’s better films.
Hope that gives you a smile, Tara!

IWSG Annual Anthology Contest

This May, we will be announcing the next IWSG Anthology Contest genre and theme. We’ll probably taunt you with the genre the month prior, so be watching in April.

This will be our sixth contest. Sixth! Amazing how far the IWSG has come.

Thanks to all of you for making it possible!

Mini-Alex in Snow

Something strange fell from the sky last week. We almost never see it!

Hi, Alex!

Stranger Things needs to up its game this season because the natives are getting restless. I have read several critical reviews of season 3. Even so I can't wait for S-4 to begin. "Hopper" gets around. I see he also has a major role in Black Widow. Mrs. Shady and I watched Joker two nights ago. Scary dark! Just when you thought it was safe to like clowns again.

Enjoy the week ahead, good buddy Alex!

Diablo 4: I assume they won't able to make a good story behind the animation. Maybe it can works for 15-20 minutes, but making a 90+ minutes movie will be a real challange.

Stranger Things season 4: I'm very looking forward to the new season!

Black Widow: Budapest! And this time Budapest is not Moscow, not Berlin or Buenos Aires! I hope it will be good.

More Stranger Things sounds good!

I still can't imagine how anyone could mess up "Cats" like they did!

Mason Canyon said...

Sad to know Cats was messed up. Looking forward to seeing both DVDs.

Joanne said...

Black Widow, Wonder Woman, I'm there! Stranger Things 4 - heck yeah. And I need to watch Witchers. Read books? Watch Netflix? I'm torn every night. Meanwhile, mini-Alex is cool wherever he is. Glad he did not lie down in yellow snow. I could use some snow but our window of opportunity in TX is closing rapidly. Happy Monday!

L. Diane Wolfe said...

I can't wait for the next Wonder Woman.

It's a good thing Mini-Alex was dressed for snow.

Madeline Mora-Summonte said...

Stranger Things 4 - I knew it, too! He just had to be. :)

I've still got The Joker and Knives Out on my To Watch list. One of these days....

We did start watching Locke and Key on Netflix and are enjoying it so far.

Andrew Leon said...

I'm worried about Stranger Things.
It seems like they're beginning to push it too far and they should just leave this particular story finished.

kaykuala said...

Hi Alex,
Wonder Woman will certainly bring back memories of old. Wonder it can match up as well. Not familiar with the rest but will keep a lookout!

Liz A. said...

I think game animators don't make movies because video game movies are so horrible. Someone write a good movie for them, and then...

Ah, Wonder Woman... I love that trailer. Only because of the song. Back in the day, that was my song.

Snow? If we saw snow, it would have made national news. It does not snow here.

Melissa said...

I can't believe this is the sixth anthology contest! Congrats!

Yolanda Renée said...

I've pretty much given up movies and tv for reading. It's been amazing!
Looking forward to the reveal!

J.Q. Rose said...

Wonder Woman for sure. We saw Knives Out in the movie theater. Did not figure it out until the ending. Loved it. Oh, and for those of you near Tampa, in Spring Hill, a movie theater where movies are only $5./$6.50 at night. AND FREE popcorn on Wednesdays...bring your own container and they'll fill it up. Great recliner seats too. We'll be watching more movies, and not just on Netflix this year!!!

At least I got that one trivia answer right. I'm so out of touch. :D

Birgit said...

I bet the Anthology contest will go over well again this year. I am looking forward to the 2 TV super heroes kick ass. I had no clue on your trivia questions...total brain death

Victoria Marie Lees said...

CATS is a wonderful play and I enjoyed the English movie of the show, but I worried about this rendition of the show. My daughter didn't like it either, and we watch the English version of the movie all the time. I believe some theatre plays do NOT render themselves into movies well; for example, A Chorus Line and The Odd Couple. I didn't care for the movie versions of those two shows.

Now my whole family is looking forward to the next installment of Jumanji, although I still prefer the Robin Williams version. All best to you, Alex!

Sandra said...

OMG! Wonder Woman is coming this summer? Can't wait!!!! Thank you. Thank you.

Jemi Fraser said...

I'm curious as to the theme for the next anthology! They're always such fun!
We've had the mildest winter I ever remember but we still have tons of snow if you want to visit!! :)

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Shady, they'll have to do something unique all right. And it will never be safe to like clowns again.

RaveAir, and yet they are making a sub-par animated series of this game...

Joanne, avoid the yellow snow!

Andrew, they might have this one more season but it will need to wrap up soon.

Liz, most game movies aren't good...

JQ, like the recliner seats!

Victoria, it's a rare play that makes a good movie.

Sandra, now you know!

Jemi, I would love to.

Joylene Nowell Butler said...

What I plan to do in April is to locate the list of all the Avenger movies and watch them over a period of a few days, maybe weeks, in chronological order. That should be fun, eh?!

Rawknrobyn.blogspot.com said...

I love the trailer you posted for WW1984, though the title confuses me. 1984 but coming out in 2020? Reference to the novel, 1984, maybe. At any rate, I kind of want to see it.

I'm glad Mini Alex can tolerate the snow.
It's always great to see him.
Have a productive, peaceful week, Alex.

J E Oneil said...

So they are doing another season of Stranger Things. I was thinking they wouldn't, since, you know, Netflix.

It's about time we had some more badass women superhero movies.

SpacerGuy said...

Its a good thing Wonder Woman is alive and kickin' 'cos like we still need beautiful superheroes to save the universe. She sure woke me up, music rocked, I wanted to be there with her.

Beverly Stowe McClure said...

I used to adore Wonder Woman. She was my heroine. We had snow once this year. Nice. Have a great week.

Juneta key said...

Looking forward to the next Wonder Woman. And yes, I watched when Lynda Carter was Wonder Woman. I never missed an episode.

John Wiswell said...

I'm still not sure why Hopper was presumed dead by everyone. It's not like we saw his body explode or anything. It felt like whatever happened to him was a missing scene.

Stoked for more Stranger Things, though!

Pat Hatt said...

Yeah, anyone that thought he was dead was a tad naive lol Too bad we probably have to wait another 8-10 months until it comes back.

Natalie Aguirre said...

Now I'm super excited for Stranger Things. And The Witcher is on the top of my list but I just got sucked into The Stranger.

Sherry Ellis said...

I had no idea there was going to be another season of Stranger Things. It's seemed okay just ending it where it was at. It'll be interesting to see where the story goes now.

Jenni said...

No snow where I'm at this year. But we had snow in March last year, so perhaps there's still hope. Looking forward to hearing what the new anthology theme is. And I've heard a lot of good things about Knives Out. I do love a good whodunit!

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Joylene, that would be fun!

Robyn, it takes place in 1984.

Juneta, neither did I.

Cathrina Constantine said...

Lots of good trailers! Looking forward to seeing a few of these!. Love Stranger Things, I saw the trailer last week. I knew Hopper was alive.

Here in Buffalo, NY I've seen a little snow...LOL.

I always learn a lot about things I don't know on you blog, Alex. I did see "Cowboys and Aliens" and "V for Vendetta," so I'm not an entire lost cause. We've had piles and piles of snow this year ~ I'm ready for Hawaii!

Dude, thanks for stopping by. I guess my blog is looking for a new home. I was on with these two other girls & they told me they can no longer carry me on with them. :( TOTAL BUMMER! So I'm looking for a new home for my blog. Any suggestions? With being on Social Security Disability we're talking $ is very tight, so I've been searching. Any suggestions??? This has given me one big headache. Ever since my back operation $ has been really TIGHT! And so something that I enjoy doing I may lose. HUGE BUMMER! My doctor called today and she wants me to see a Physiatrist. For my right leg which is numb since my back operation & no one wants to help me because they all know my surgeon messed up I bet. I haven't driven either since then 8-22-2018. I have found one of these guys so wish me luck & any prayers you don't know what to do with I'll take. Thanks for letting me gab in your ear... eyes.. uh... well you know what I mean... thanks for the shoulder. Have a great night & thanks again. If I do get it fixed I'm planning on going back to work. I was a Legal Secretary/Paralegal back in the day, but they won't let me work at it because I've been retired for too long. That stinks so I'm looking for being a Receptionist. Goodnight my friend! hugs

Hi Alex - Cats was awful - I agree; I managed to see Joker - and Joaquin Phoenix was pretty amazing ... not so sure about the film - but just me.

That white stuff is around ... could strike down here at some stage ... but we've enough of liquid wet to keep us going. Mini Alex looks good lying on it ...

Take care - cheers Hilary

Black Widow and Wonder Woman both look pretty good

Sandra Ulbrich Almazan said...

To me, the most memorable movie scene was when Dr. Strange brought everyone together for the final battle in Endgame.

Erika Beebe said...

Congrats to Tara! Several of the trailers looked great! The Joker blew me away...a necessary film for us all to see. And I have seen too much snow.

Sandra Cox said...

We got at max an inch of snow. Is that about what you had?

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Cathrina, I bet you have!

Ian, awesome.

Maria, sorry to hear that! Blogger is free, unless you are using a domain name. Definitely prayers for you.

Yvonne, no worries.

Hilary, Joker was amazing, but I'll never watch it again.

Sandra, that was awesome.

Sandra, we got about two.

Truedessa said...

Hi Alex,

Stranger Things is a must see when it finally comes out. I really enjoyed this series. I have been wanting to see Knives Out and Jumanji.

I saw the Joker and I have to say Joaquin Phoenix did an excellent job in his portrayal of the Joker. The film was disturbing though.

How is the editing going? Keep at it, this fan is waiting.

Have a great week!

DRC said...

Stranger Things: Yeah, Knew he was still alive, too. So looking forward to that. And something else I'm looking forward to? The IWSG anthology contest!!

mshatch said...

We've had snow, but not as much as in past years and red-winged blackbirds have been spotted which a month early for them. Definitely a mild winder. Can't wait for Stranger Things :)

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Truedessa, it was a great film, but yes, Joker was disturbing. Haven't worked on editing since last week - will tackle it again this weekend.

DRC, awesome!

Sandra Cox said...

I haven't seen any of Stranger Things.

J.H. Moncrieff said...

Oh yes, we've definitely had our fill of snow up in the north. So ready for winter to be over.

I loved the first Stranger Things, but for some reason, had no desire to watch even the second instalment. So I've fallen a bit behind.

Knives Out sounds up my alley.

Sandra Cox said...

re: Black Widow. As far as being dead, they're bringing a lot of them back to life one way or another, aren't they?

The Happy Whisk said...

Hey Alex. I stopped in to say howdy. I want to see Stranger Things and Wonder Woman but I won't even watch a single minute of any trailer for a movie I want to watch. Unless it happens by accident, then I quickly shut it off. No reviews, no trailers. I just hear the name of the movie/TV show and decide from there. Zero spoilers because one, trailers gives away WAY too much (in my opinion) and two, once I see a scene or clip in the movie, my brain will remember it throughout the movie and that I find, also gives stuff away when I know that clip hasn't been played yet. Anyway, howdy and Happy Friday Eve (as of this comment). Cheers and boogie boogie.

Rhonda Albom said...

While I never heard of Kvelertak, I love your "recipe." And of the movies, Black Widow looks the most interesting to me. And snow? NO! I hope it doesn't come here this winter. I know weather patterns are changing, but we have never seen it where we live. (It's summer now in New Zealand, hotter than normal, but still comfortable for me)

Susan Flett Swiderski said...

Thanks for the recommendation about "Knives Out." I'll definitely pick up a copy when it comes out. I bought Ford vs. Ferrari, and we finally watched that one last weekend. Loved it! And we both agreed that we enjoyed it more at home than we would've in the theater, simply because it's so long. The recliner seats in our local theater aren't awful, but for us, there's no place like home. :)

1917 was a superb film.

I am a great fan of short fiction, so always ready and glad for new anthologies. Congrats on the IWSG's achievements!

When I first saw the Stranger Things 4 trailer I was screaming for joy. I was so hoping the "American in the cell" was Hopper and not Eleven's evil papa scientist from s1. Was going I knew it, I knew it. Right now I'm re-watching season 3 to re-familiarize with the story.

Haven't seen Stranger Things. I'd just started wondering if I was missing something. Now, thanks to the trailer, I'm pretty sure I am.

so much creamy filling goodness!
i’m looking forward to Wonder Woman 1984, really enjoy GG
and going to buy Knives Out! love “Clue” movies! and Jumanji 2 as well, Karen Gillan is also a fave! I’m planning to send her my Pop Travel script! (yes, i’m crazy, but she wants to start directing—hoping for good timing!)

and what an awesome surprise for you to give me an extra shout out! thank you so much!!
(my son also told me Onward is receiving shallow reviews... not sure how i feel about it, but when i see those pants running around and the shrinking trope on the trailer, I cringe!)

thanks so much for the boost. you’re the man!!
