My awesome co-hosts today are Lauren Hennessy, Lisa Buie-Collard, Lidy, Christine Rains, and Mary Aalgaard!
Most of my writing has been A to Z Challenge posts (simpler than previous years but still require a bit of work) but I did outline a story last month. Not sure it would be enough for a novel, but I went back to the Cassan universe and planned an adventure for Byron’s son, Bassan.
At this point in my career, I don’t feel any pressure to whip out another book. Just enough has drizzled out to keep interest in my other books, plus I have a story in The Thing That Turned Me, and anthology coming out later this year from Stay Classy Publishing. So, I’m just going to take my time.

Television Show Updates
Here are some short updates on recent shows:
The Chronicles of Shannara
Still enjoying it, but maybe they should’ve called it Fifty Shades of Shannara. (I was thirteen the first time I read the books – trust me, I would’ve remembered if there was ANY sex in them!)
Better Call Saul
Very intriguing – so far, the second season is as good as the first.
Supergirl
Some hit and miss episodes, but Supergirl is so darn cute, I don’t care.
Face Off
This is how all reality based artistic competitions should be handled – it’s all about the art and zero drama.
X-Files
Part of me thinks it was the perfect way to end its six episode run and part of me wants to slap the crap out of creator Chris Carter.

Saw this on Heather Gardner’s site last week. Really, it’s not one of my goals (well, maybe when I was younger) but I found the snark hilarious:
What are your writing insecurities this month? Did you enjoy the first newsletter? Want to contribute an article? Have you seen any of the television shows? Signed up for the Challenge? And who else wants to slap Chris Carter...?
172 comments:
Actually I'm not feeling that insecure this month - of course, we all peak & trough so I expect I'll be due a dip soon.
Haven't seen the Shannara series, but I don't recall any sex either - I don't think it even existed in that universe!
Like Angela I've not felt too insecure this month (but it will come round again, no doubt). I've been far too wrapped up in being happy at all the success stories amongst the IWSG community. It's great to hear new publications being out in the world, writing progress being made - even during the tough times. I think we have a lot to celebrate!!
Really looking forward to the A to Z challenge!! Preparations underway.
ps: The Newsletter was great!!! Thanks to all involved!
Congrats on having ideas to outline a novella or a novel, that's the first step before you get entirely hooked, I believe. I like writing short stories too. You can see and feel the accomplishments much quicker, whereas novels and their endless editing can get rough.
I also read Shannara many moons ago, and I've been watching the series and saying..."WHAT?!!!" I don't recall anything like that. We live in a society where sex sells, especially with young adults.
I'm getting ready to watch the new X-files. Thanks for not spoiling it for me! Signing up for the newsletter.
Love the meme.
I am enjoying the Shannara series though I never read the books.
I am thinking I may not do the A-Z this year. Too much going on.
That is cool that you outlined a story. I hope to really kick my writing back into high gear.
You? Pissing off those along the way? Hard to imagine. Overall X-Files was satisfying and yet I was disappointed as well. I agree with you on the ending of the last show. Congrats on the story outline. Loved the newsletter.
Sex in Shannara?!
I did watch Better Call Saul season 1 on (Netflix? Amazon Prime?), feeling like I was taking a chance since spinoffs are frequently pretty bad. I thought it was excellent and not even as gritty as I feared. Good to hear season 2 is going well.
I watched the first couple of new Xfiles but couldn't seem to get into it. Mulder was a bit off, you know?
You may not slap Chris Carter! I need more episodes and/or a movie!!
I felt it coming. There was no way to wrap up all those story lines and not have a To Be Continued. :) Here's to them not screwing it up!!
Hi Alex!
I think its sad that all the TV shows for younger kids rely on so much sex. If the stories were good, they wouldn't need that to keep people hooked.
Happy IWSG day! See, even when you think you're done writing...
Have a great day!
Heather
I think you should enjoy whatever writing you do which happens if you don't put any pressure on yourself. Sounds like you've got the right attitude! We're still in the middle of the X-Files run in the UK, I'm not totally sold but I'll stick with it for the finale. Still undecided on the A-Z too - a month to come up with a theme, I don't feel too up to it, but hopefully that'll change!
Seriously? They've sexed up Shannara? Frustrating.
Angela, it might not have existed!
Nicola, glad you enjoyed the newsletter!
Cathrina, especially on MTV.
Dean, Chris Carter is going to get a lot of slapping.
Elizabeth, he's just getting old.
I have to see if I can think of a good topic for the newsletter.
Oh, didn't know there was a series on Shannara. My daughter loves these books. She's in Texas so I'm sure she can get it there. Thanks.
That's awesome that you've got another story idea! I'd say definitely go with it. I should probably start writing my A to Z posts at some point...
Exciting day. I was a little nervous about being a co-host, but then I relaxed and realized, I'll do as much as I can and keep reading and responding to comments through the weekend. I don't know how you do it. You are amazing. I'm looking forward to the turning points anthology that you're working on.
Thanks for asking me to co-host.
Mary at Play off the Page
I'm going to have to print out that goal and stick it on my fridge. :)
I've been managing to work on my A to Zs this last few days. Gotta catch up with myself. Looking forward to reading another Cassa book/novella.
I'm only participating in the A to Z Challenge through the Parellels blog this year. I'm excited to be in the Thing that Turned Me anthology with you, but around the Parellels anthology and major edits on my current novel, I'm wondering which way is up. Life gets insane, eh?
I always appreciate your quick reviews of movies and TV shows. We don't actually watch any of those, but we tried a few. Have you checked out The Last Ship? I think that's been my favorite new show in the last 2 years.
Slap Chris Carter - LOL!
I think you should write that story about Bassan.
The newsletter is wonderful!
Sounds good to take a breather from writing (though apparently your mind can't stop from drumming up stories!)
One day I'll do the A-Z challenge again, but it won't be this year. My second child is due on March 30th, so I think he'll be taking up most of my time in April!
A-Z challenge is right around the corner. Very excited to see what March will bring. The snark is real. Supergirl had a good episode Monday but Indigo shifted between being a cool character to just plain awful. Winn needs to just go work for the DEO. Apparently they focused more on agents who can fight than top tech people. At least Shannara Chronicles has not gone the Shadowhunters series route. Write what suits you Alex.
Glad you're comfortable with where you are with your writing.
I enjoyed the X-Files but felt the same way as you about the end. And I wish the series was longer than 6 episodes.
Writing without pressure is the best kind of writing!
I used to love the X-Files and watched all the shows for the first couple of seasons. Then I got busy and stopped watching. When I saw it was on Netflix, I thought I would watch them all again, but the first season is so hokey, I quit.
You and me are watching the same TV! I just discovered Shannara and like it quite a bit (though watching MTV ads for other shows can be annoying). I still need to watch the last X-files and Better Call Saul, but they are definitely on my list.
Haven't seen any of the shows you mentioned. I feel so out of touch sometimes in the UK. We usually have a year or two delay.
I'm ahead of schedule on that whole pissing people off thing, too... :)
I'm recording the Shannara Chronicles, but I haven't started watching it yet. It will be my reward for completing my WIP.
I haven't seen the last two episodes of X-Files yet--too busy writing :)--but someone already told me about the ending. I'm trying to decide if I should tell my wife before we watch it, or just keep silent and watch her reaction. ;)
I haven't seen any of the shows you mentioned, but I only have netflix so have to wait for everything...not that there isn't a ton to watch in the meantime. Right now I'm ripping my way through Supernatural.
So...Xfiles wasn't quite as good as everyone was hoping? That's disappointing.
Excellent that you're in a good place with your writing, Alex.
Haven't seen any of those TV shows, but I am thoroughly enjoying this season of The Walking Dead and am really liking the start/first two episodes of 11/22/63 on Hulu.
That last quote made me laugh out loud. :)
I thought the first episode of Better Call Saul was slow and confusing, but now it's picking up and they are bringing him back to the sleazy guy we all know and love.
I'm 100% slapping Chris Carter but it was still fun to have Mulder and Scully back for a while.
Congrats on outlining another story and it's great you were inspired to return to your Cassa universe.
congratulations on the anthology! Alex, I'm subscribed but I didn't receive the newsletter, I'll go check the spam folder ... (and apologies, my ISWG is going to be a few hours late this month)
The first IWSG newsletter was fantastic. I really need to think of a good article to submit for it. I feel the same way about X-Files and Face-Off. I'm happy to be co-hosting today. Off to visit many blogs! :)
Squat cobbler. That is all.
I really like your quote! I am laughing because I think I pissed off a lot of people with my last viewpoint commentary concerning the Oscars on my Typepad Blog.
You have just made me be able to laugh about it.
Shalom,
Patricia
Leigh, bet she won't remember any sex in them either.
Mary, thanks for co-hosting! I just do what I can.
Crystal, I haven't seen that one yet.
Angeline, you will be a bit busy!
Natalie, Carter is in talks to do six more!
Tamara, so was the last season.
Jen, that's why the ending didn't surprise me. But they are talking about doing more episodes.
Ken, don't tell her!
Marcy, it was as good, just ended in typical X-Files fashion.
Karen, do we have your current email address? Go ahead and sign up for it this month.
Deb, that's the perfect way to describe Saul.
Julie, yes it was.
EE, no worries.
Christine, thanks for helping me today.
LOL, I was younger when I read The Chronicles of Shannara too and don't remember sex. I also am enjoying it though.
X-Files I am intrigued and hoping it will do another season with more than 6 episodes. I find this new story line intriguing and wonder if they can pull it off without ruining a great series. It ended with a lot of questions, so have to assume it will be returning.
Happy IWSG Day,
Juneta @ Writer's Gambit
haha well they have to cater to the MTV crowd, ugg. I'd like to slap Carter too, hopefully we get more and that isn't the end. Fox really sucks at "limited" series endings X-files and 24 both ended cliffhanger like. lol I think I got my quota for a few lives by now.
I've been working on my April A to Z posts. I've got some flashes coming out on Doorknobs this month. All good - I just don't worry as much. I worked up a poem for my aunt's 90th birthday - that's my kind of writing. I like Better Call Saul a lot.
All good Alex....glad it's fine in your world too. Thanks
I love Supergirl!
Thank you for sharing the article announcement again! I didn't get many and could use a lot more. :)
Taking your time sounds great. I think it's wonderful you're at that point. Congrats, Alex!
My husband watched the X-Files. When it ended, he was all, "AAAAAHHHH!!!! How dare they end it that way?!" I giggled.
Actually I am pissing off too many people, I am way ahead of schedule :(
Congratulations to Tyrean and Lydia on their book release.
I'm probably the most insecure about figuring out what to write next. And I have X-Files waiting for me on the DVR. Now I'm afraid to watch the last episode!
I laughed so hard at the end of X-files. For them, perfect ending, but I knew people would be soiling their pants!
Hi, Alex,
LOVE face off! That is a great show! I also agree with you on the Shannara series... AMAZING writing, but the show is much more "DRAMATIC".
I really enjoyed the newsletter.... THANKS!
The first IWSG newsletter was great! I still have some links to check out. Very useful.
I have the Shannara episodes on DVR, but I haven't had a chance to watch them yet. And no, I definitely don't remember any sex scenes in the books.
Congrats to Tyrean and Lydia on their new releases!
Good luck with your new story idea! Happy IWSG Day!
Man! I have The Chronicles of Shannara and X-Files on my list to watch soon, now I'm I'm not sure if I'm disappointed or excited to hear your contradicted feelings on x-files lol
Glad to hear Byron may have an adventure coming up! :)
Not watching any of those TV shows. Saw one episode of Supergirl and didn't like it much--there was something that really turned me off about it, but now I can't remember what it was.
The A to Z chats are not well timed for me. So far I've missed them.

A to Z Challenge Co-host
Tossing It Out
I wish I had the luxury of taking my time. Unhacking my blog took way too much of it. I know nobody could read my last IWSG post, but I think my site is clean now so today's post should be visible. Not sure if Google has processed my reconsideration request though.
Love Shannara too, just don't have time to read anymore, so I might not ever post book reviews again. However, I'm working on planting an orchard, and that's helping restore my health. I also decided to remain in IWSG even if it's the only post I write every month. That's a big indicator of how my priorities changed during over 2 months of hacking.
Thanks again for providing this forum for writers.
I can't wait to get home, finish Total Divas from last night, and then watch Shannara! I didn't even read the book, but I was very intrigued, so I started watching it On Demand.
Also, I LOVE Supergirl! Wasn't a fan of Indigo's hair this week, though. It looked ridiculous and reminded me too much of Mystique from the X-Men movies. I also googled Indigo to see if she did look like that, and I think they could've gone with the purpler looking adaptation.
I need that snark on a tshirt for Chad. It's not exactly his goal, but he's so not a people pleaser.
I watched some of Saul. I liked it. He's a great character.
Totally agree with your take on Super Girl.
Just fell into a "I suck. Everything I do sucks. Being an author sucks" mode a couple of days ago. Ugh. So stupid, but so hard to climb out of. So I'm in search of Girl Scout cookies.
Haven't seen the X-file movie. Now you've got my attention and curiosity. Mixed reaction ...? Interesting. Did they film it in Vancouver?
Love that snark!!! It's not one of my goals either, but I seem to be on the mark . . .
Keep on writing, Alex! I'm looking forward to reading some of your A to Z posts, although I won't be writing any this year.
And, thank you so much for the shout-out! :)
The first issue of the IWSG newsletter turned out great!
It's probably a good thing that you don't feel the pressure to write another book. That means you can write what feels right and enjoy it without feeling like you need to do any one specific thing. Take your time and enjoy it!
I'm very excited for April, it's going to be a fun month, and I'm going to have at least one weekend that is going to be VERY challenging for me. Looking forward to be a newbie minion. I hope I do a good job.
When I start having success with my writing, I'll consider contributing an article to the IWSG newsletter. Till then, I'll just read for the encouragement.
Face Off - I've only seen bits of this. Of course it was also featured in an episode of Doctor Who set in the far far future along with other reality shows like Big Brother, the Weakest Link, and such. By the far future, you do NOT want to actually appear on these shows. Like they say, FACE... OFF...
Supergirl - I've been meaning to watch this. I'll probably get to it when it's on DVD. Like I have been doing for Flash and Green Arrow.
It's good that you feel comfortable with where your writing is at right now. The IWSG newsletter is great, well done to everyone involved in putting it together.
While not my goal, I thought the meme about pissing off people funny. I know, weird sense of humor. Love the new newsletter! My insecurities have taken a short break--thanks, mostly, to this wonderful group that you started.
I wasn't prepared for IWSG this month. Did the car accident scramble my brain? Maybe. I'm having some difficulty holding it all together. I plan on being back next month (and planning better with BoTB if they are close together).
I really need to attack my revisions. It's on my list for... SOON!
I wrote and scheduled my "A" post this morning and had so much fun writing it. (It's a topic that interests me, but not really a happy-happy topic, so I probably should feel bad about saying that!) You didn't create the A to Z Challenge? I'll need to go review my posts to make sure I haven't credited you with that! I just assume you invented everything!
Just signed up for the newsletter! I can always use more great writing tips! Looking forward to reading your story in The Thing That Turned Me.
Juneta, a LOT of questions!
Pat, they are in talks for more episodes.
Chrys, I'll push again for more on Monday.
Loni, he should've seen it coming...
Quanie, watch it anyway.
Holly, I think I laughed as well.
SK, the series was great, but the ending...
Sher, glad your blog is back. And there are quite a few others who only post for the IWSG now.
Deborah, my wife said the same thing about Indigo.
Kai, I'm sure you'll find them!
Joylene, not sure. And it was a great series. Just ended in typical X-Files fashion.
Tyrean, you're welcome!
LG, exactly!
Jeffrey, no, I wouldn't want to be on that show. And I'm sure you'll be a great Minion father.
Robin, no worries!
I would enjoy reading about Bassan's adventures. Did I spell that right? I don't watch any of those shows. Was never an X-File fan. I was tempted by the Chronicles of Shannara but didn't indulge. I watch too much TV already.
I loved the newsletter! I keep trying to think of articles to submit, but I haven't managed to think of any yet.
I LOVE Better Call Saul - it's the highlight of my week!...until Game of Thrones is aired of course....
My big a-z project isn't finished yet, but I'm going to go with what I have.
Hi Alex - so much going on in your neck of the woods - I do not know how you keep up. I miss some of the X files as it's on a Monday ... but I've enjoyed it. I was totally impressed by Spotlight which I saw yesterday .. absolutely brilliant ...
I am on my way towards my A-Z posts - cheers Hilary
I'd forgot about Shannara! I need to go back and catch up! Bosch is starting back up..... I kinda gave up on X Files.
After writing a few books I think a break is good. I like stepping back and thinking for a while without a keyboard under my fingers. Congrats on the short story. I'll have to take a look.
I'd love to contribute to the newsletter. Have to think about what I could contribute.
I'm stealing this bit of snark for later. It suits me today.
That's cool that you're outlining a new story—the ideas just keep coming, don't they?!
Congrats to those with new releases! Not feeling too insecure this month, but very impatient, rather. Lol. :)
I'm glad you're not feeling under pressure to produce more books unless you want to - pressure brings insecurities.
I love the quote from Heather Gardner's site! That definitely made me laugh! I'm still a bit insecure getting back into blogging, but I'm getting there!
Face Off is awesome and fascinates my My 5th grader to no end. Chris Carter needs a 50 Shades of a$$ whooping. Will be joining you at the Turning Points table--I'll bring the music! This year's AtoZ theme will make up for me not participating last year, that is, if I don't quit writing by then to become a zip lining guide.
I'm very insecure an I wrote all about it hoping for some feedback.
All signed up for the challenge reveal!
I'm way behind on Better Call Sul and X-Files, but I don't have a stable tv at the moment so it may be a long while before I catch up- thank you for not ruining anything!
I really like Better Call Saul, even though I don't think it'll ever be on the same level as Breaking Bad. I think I like learning Mike's backstory more than anything. The second season seems to be going better than the first, too.
Congrats on the outline! As for Face Off, I've never heard of it till now, but I can't help but be intrigued. The idea of a reality show without drama sounds so refreshing!
No drama?! How will the world survive? I'm working on my A to Z posts. Keeping it very simple this year...
The newsletter is great! The snark has me smiling too. And dribbling stories without pressure sounds heavenly. Guess it's a smiles post :)
I loved the "Pissed Off slogan", always something good to read here,#
Yvonne
Totally loved the piss off goal! I wonder how far ahead I am? :)
Congrats on the outline and feeling relaxed. The best goal of all - no pressure.
I wonder about Better Call Saul. Hm.
X-Files was a huge disappoint for me, start to weird finish. The show after it, Lucifer, has my attention. But I'm not sure if I should be enjoying it as much as I am.
I haven't watched the last episode of X-Files as yet but the fourth episode of this series was so funny! I am really hoping that it's success will spawn more seasons.
Super girl doesn't do it for me at all but I agree she's very cute :)
I like your attitude about not worrying about writing another novel. I admire that. I keep thinking that is what I'm supposed to do. Writing shorter pieces is definitely a great idea. Congratulations to everyone with new releases!
Glad to see Better Call Saul for another season. And best wishes to Lydia and Tyrean with their latest and greatest!
I'm not feeling too insecure this month. Congrats to those with new released. And I enjoyed the first newsletter. It was nice to see a member highlighted. :)
Stephanie, I was just one of the first participants and the first co-host.
Susan, yes you did.
Andrew, at least you have one this year.
Hilary, can't wait to see Spotlight.
Jess, we're glad you're back!
Samantha, awesome!
Heather, it is!
Huntress, that's just a show I can't get into.
Hate to admit I haven't read the first newsletter! Boxes have been my life lately, as you know. Haven't seen any of the shows either. But my daughter enjoyed the new X-Files. She thinks they'll lead into possibly a new series. Still debating with myself on A to Z... Thanks for dropping by Alex!
I've heard some troublesome things about The X-Files. I'm very disappointed about that. Good luck with your Challenge posts. It's a lot of writing, isn't it?
There's nothing wrong with taking the slower path to writing and publishing your stories. It's great to hear that you are still writing here and there. :)
I only saw the X-Files but I did like it!
Hi Alex! I'm glad that you are not under pressure with your writing the way you were last year. I love that you are writing an adventure for Bassan! I have a lot to catch up on in the online world, starting with the IWSG newsletter. I'm resurfacing after a much-needed hiatus that turned out to be longer than I anticipated. I would not miss IWSG day! I woke up in Honolulu this morning after leaving Colorado yesterday. We're five hours behind the East Coast for now. I'm writing a quick post, and I'll be making the rounds of IWSG posts a little later. Have a great day!
I gave up on Shannara. One episode pissed me off enough, and I was out. I do watch Supergirl. And I have signed up for A to Z and the theme reveal post. Even though I don't have a theme.
Go ahead, slap away.
My niece Sarah has had two walk-on speaking arts in Supergirl. The powers that be are impressed with her. Hope there is more to come.
Great post. Haven't see the TV shows, but am addicted to Netflix original Bloodline. Hate to see it end, but want to see the ending if that makes sense! Thinking about A-Z. That's a big commitment, but a great challenge. Did not know about the other activities involved with it too. Thanks.
At first i wasn't too impressed with Better Call Saul, but now I'm really enjoying it.
I think you've earned the right to take your time on the next project. And if it pisses off a few of your fans who are eagerly waiting for your next book, well, that seems to dovetail nicely into your snarky plans, so...win/win. :D
That comic from Heather is hilarious!
Congrats to Tyrean and Lydia on their releases!
Thanks for the info about the TV shows. The only one I've seen is Face-Off (the others aren't available in my area), but all of them sound fun. Have a great week, Alex! :)
I love Better Call Saul -- the writing for that show is excellent and the character (and actor) outstanding.
It's nice to not have the pressure of needing to get a book release ASAP. Let's you relax and take the time to really dive into whatever your muse has thrown at you.
My hero. Blessings
I like the idea of an adventure for Byron’s son, Bassan.
Me! Pick Me! I want to slap Chris Carter!! Hahahaaa Smoking man is alive? Don't these bad guys ever die? What happened to Gillian Anderson's face? She has so much botox in it she can hardly move and her face looks longer. I actually found her face very distracting especially since Einstein's forehead had wrinkles when she moved her eyebrows but Scully's? Nope waxwork. Love Face Off and so refreshing that there is no drama and they all hug it out at the end. Many help each other so I love that. The German is funny even if he is a bit nutty. It's one of my favourite shows. I have to start writing my A to Z!
Sounds like you're in a good place with your writing, Alex. That's really cool.
Love that snarky post of Heather's. I'm waaaay ahead. LOL.
This is my first month to participate in the IWSG - a learning experience. Every day is a battle against insecurity. I usually win.
Dang I need to catch up on my television. I would like to see just one episode of all of those shows. Sigh. Anyway, I think it sounds like you are in a great place in your writing career. Thank you for all the inspiration. The newsletter was awesome too.
The last episode of this season of X-Files was good and the one about the monster who turned into a man -- the others were just not up to standard. And yes, I like Supergirl, too. The Flash this season is not as good as the first. :-(
That's great you're writing without the pressure. Sometimes I don't feel any pressure, and other times I really want to boost my readership and number of publications. Both feelings have their pros and cons for me.
What are your writing insecurities this month? I'm absolutely insecure about writing a 200 word article for the newsletter. But one of these days, I'll submit something. lol
Did you enjoy the first newsletter?
Love the first newsletter. I especially enjoyed Joylene Nowell Butler's articles with examples. I've copied it to a reference document I'm building.
Have you seen any of the television shows? Yup, Super Girl. We live in Mexico, so our selection of English speaking programs is limited.
I hear ya. I'm not in any hurry to write another book just yet either. Soon though...
I'd have to trim and trim and trim if I submitted an article, since these days, I consider a short post about 400 words and would have a really hard time doing only 200! Brevity has never been my strong suit.
I've learned that's the best way.. not to rush any of this. Enjoy each moment :) I did my first IWSG post today in 4 years, and boy, did it feel good! Just what the doctor ordered.
I liked what you said about taking your time. That's the way to be. Good luck with A to Z!
I have read all your books but, Dragon of the Stars is my favorite. The story still plays out in my head. Anyway, I am glad you found a place you are comfortable. Take your time listen to that inner muse and you will write when the time is right.
I missed the last two episodes of the X-Files so I will play catch up later this week.
It would be fun writing and then take a breather. For starters perhaps the short stories and novella tips would be most useful for Hank. It should trigger off writing smart. Missed the 1st newsletter but signed up for the second. Signed up for both participation and the theme for April. Can't wait to start. Thanks Alex!
Hank
I'm not really insecure this month just bummed that I don't have as much writing time as I like. Not really surprised they sexed the series up. Everything seems to get way more sex than it needs.
For someone who didn't see themselves as a writer, you achieve a LOT.
Thank you to you, and every other writer. My world would be diminished without you.
Congrats to Tyrean and Lydia. I'm glad you announced the newsletter I haven't checked my mail in over a week. Looking forward to the challenge. Can't believe another year flew by.
Thanks for the reminder to sign up for the newsletter. Finally did.
Also signed up for 2016 A to Z Challenge.
After watching part of the first two new X-Files shows, I decided I liked the original ones better and dug out my Mythology Collection DVDs. No slaps for those :)
Great to see Tyrean and Lydia with new books out! The IWSG newsletter is such a good idea. I've submitted the blog link on Amazon reviews. Time will tell if it fits the purpose.
Congrats to Tyrean and Lydia!
I'm all signed up for the A to Z Challenge - just over 3 weeks before it kicks off!
Alex, I agree that Better Call Saul is a great show! Sorry I missed IWSG today. Glad you''ve come up with another exciting A to Z theme. I'll have to cheer from the sidelines this year.
Julie
I stopped watching Shannara after episode 4 (not familiar with the books). It got weird and I knew all this sex stuff wasn't accurate. Also, I just don't care about any of the characters for some reason.
Good luck on your new writing venture. Plan so you don't get stuck like me, but you're good for that.
I'm so sorry, but this year will not be able to participate in the challenge A-Z. Well, I have embarked on new projects related to theater and I will not have time. In fact I had to reduce my publications to once weekly. But keep in touch!
I always think that if someone CAN take a break from writing (IE if there's not something relentlessly driving them to write), they should take a break from writing. So I think you're doing the right thing to hang around and see what else comes to you.
I have to admit that I haven't read the newsletter yet. Still stuck without internet, and I'm stealing a few minutes of quiet at my day-job to make some blogging rounds. Shhhhhhh!
Short stories are a good way to market your novels. Maybe try writing some more?
Love Heather's pic. I'm probably a few decades behind schedule - must try harder!
It's not the same Face Off, but coincidentally I just saw the old movie of the same name not long ago at my mom's house when I went to visit. Good show. :)
I'm here to wish you a fantabulous week!
Congrats on your inclusion in the anthology. I like Heather's snark, too!
JE, it was a great series. Just ended on a cliffhanger.
Fundy, glad to have you back!
Liz, hope you decide on a theme soon then!
Susan, that's awesome!!! Who is she in the series?
LG, it does!
Birgit, the German guy is just plain nuts, but it makes for good entertainment.
Linda, welcome! I will visit you today.
WritingNut, glad you're back!
Hank, awesome!
Elephant's Child, yeah, not sure how that happened...
Julie, no worries.
Leovi, we'll miss you, but understand.
Sean, I might.
Rosey, that's a great movie!
I quite fancy the Sha na na Chronicles, not read the books either?? I've seen the first 2 episodes of the new X-Files.... I wasn't that impressed to be honest.
50 Shades of Shanara, hahaha. Writing blog posts counts as writing for sure. Good luck with the story. I'm insecure because I didn't manage an IWSG post this time. Lots going on, but maybe I'll post late :)
Ha! Heather's meme is a hoot.
Just saying thank you for continuing to be an awesome leader.
That final quote is awesome. Congrats to Lydia and Tyrean! Lots of great books going around! I'm sure when you feel the push of a story you'll write it, Alex. Nothing wrong with popping in and out with your writing.
Shell, no worries!
Feather, thanks for being a part of the IWSG.
I loved Breaking Bad and have heard good things about Better Call Saul. I haven't began watching it yet though.
No insecurities to speak of this month, as I found my writing mojo in early February and I'm having a blast with it.
Father Nature's Corner
Great TV picks and new book releases!! I love the snark, too, but it isn't my style either. I had a deadline looming. Sorry, I am late to visit~ I will have to check out Chronicles of Shannara and Face Off. I was catching up with 'Suits'~
Happy Wednesday, Captain~
Thanks for the well wishes!
Spring is almost here, flu be gone!
Loved the IWSG newsletter! Excellent job!
Hey Alex, dude!
Okay, I shall skim past your mention of that dreaded alphabet thing.
Glad you're not feeling any pressure to whip a book, sorry, to whip out another book.
Ah yes, all those shows you mention. Get them all here. I watch them for about thirty seconds.
Alphabet theme reveals and of course, the Twitter chat and of course, the actual alphabet thingy, followed by eleven months of reflection posts about reflecting about the alphabet. See, I make no mention of the Alphabark Challenge, 2016!
Nice to note two releases, as in books, by two of my starstruck fans.
Nice snark from Heather's site. Wonder what Stormy would think....
I have no writing insecurities. Why have pressure about my writing when it's just a bit of therapy.
Thank you for being part of IWSG aka "I Was Seeking Gary."
Gary
As long as you keep writing!
And I was wondering about "Better Call Saul." Liked him enough from Breaking Bad. Maybe I'll give it a try.
Yay for A to Z! I've been working on my posts, too, between rounds of edits. And I'm excited about the new IWSG newsletter. Thanks for hosting another great month.
Nice quote, lol. Byron has a son?! I need to get back into my TBR list again :)
I am looking forward to the A to Z, it was a major change for my blogging habits last year and a great experience :) I did enjoy the first issue of the IWSG newsletter, it's a great addition, and maybe someday I'll have a decent article to submit. Good luck with wherever your writing takes you this year!
I'm currently hooked on The Chronicles of Shannara...:)
Sound fantastic to be at the place where you don't feel you need to rush your next book... that's my goal end of next year as by then I really hope to have 2 series out and several book... If I can pull it together.
Haven't seen the X-Files reboot yet, but I'm looking forward to it.
Ah, you people prewriting your A to Z Challenge posts! I'm so jealous.
I think you already know what my insecurity is...I'm very thankful for this group, this month especially!
A cliffhanger on a show there's no guarantee they can make more of drove me nuts. I almost didn't watch the final episode when someone told me it would end with giant question marks. But I couldn't have missed it. And I'm glad we had this run of the show.
That's awesome that you outlined a new story. No rush. Write it in your own time. I'm sure it feels good just to know it's there. I just started watching the Hulu show 11/22/63, and I'm liking it so far. I'm a huge fan of the book, so the mini series has a lot to live up to.
Loved the snarky goal. That is my kind of quote :)
I haven't seen Faceoff. The commercials always look interesting. It's nice to hear it's not about drama - it's just the art.
I'm enjoying Better Call Saul, and also Vinyl. SOOO much good music on Vinyl and Bobby Cannavale is amazing.
I just saw Episode Six of the X-Files last night (On Demand). I'm a fan of the show, but I was wondering how in the heck they were going to wrap things up in only one hour. Then, when I saw Scully looking up into an alien ship (piloted by men?), immediately followed by the credits....what the heck is THAT all about? They had me until then.
Oh, who am I kidding? If it comes back for another six episodes, I'll be back.
GB, write, man, write!
Gary, that's a good question! What does Stormy think...?
Elizabeth, crap, I gave away part of the third book, didn't I?
JH, I'd be a mess if I didn't.
Shannon, I'll take anything but another crappy movie.
Al, so will I. That's why Heather told me I can't slap Carter because he needs to produce more.
Gah, I have to catch up on Better Call Saul! I'm way too busy for my own good these days. The first season was so good.
Love the quote, lol. What a goal to be ahead in. I need to catch up on many of those shows, behind is my key word for this month. Its good to be satisfied with your writing career - I'll get there someday, maybe.
Have a good weekend Alex.
12 comments sounds like a plan, but when you publish 20 or more, you will need to tick a lake, truck or shore...
That's great about the outline for the son's story! I'd love to read that. :)
I totally agree about Shannara and XFiles. AND FaceOff. This is a good group this time! (They're always great people, but last season I wasn't super impressed with the talent. But I like the creations of this group!)
Been watching Shannara Chronicles in the internet. I'm a big fan of the dude playing the Druid. So thanks for bringing the show to my attention.
Congrats on your outline.
I didn't realize we had chats.
Have a good one:)
My insecurities are older than you are!
Haven't seen those shows and the A to Z didn't help me much even though I had a theme! I might do it again sometime because I never say never.
Haven't watched (or read) Chronicles of Shannara, but it's been on my to-read list for eons. We loved Better Call Saul, good stuff! Haven't yet watched the new Supergirl or X-Files. Face Off has always seemed a pretty interesting show, but haven't watched it!
That little bit of snark had me actually laugh out loud - thanks for that :)
I love that you and I watch the same shows, Alex. I'm really digging Better Call Saul. I don't even need them to get to where he was with Breaking Bad because I love his journey now. They're doing a great job of it.
I'm sort of a bipolar insecure writer. At times I feel pretty good about my stuff, at other times far opposite of that.
I am very curious about the 6 episodes of the X-Files now. I have been wanting to see it- as I was such a fan of the show back in the day. Your thoughts on the ending have me a little worried. :)
~Jess
I read the part about Better Call Saul and I forgot it wasn't a Netflix original. I thought I missed something! Ha! The life of a cord cutter!
I'm combating all kinds of insecurities this month, especially after last month, but I seem to be doing pretty well. ^_^ I heard the X-Files ending was kind of controversial, but I never got into the show. The only TV show I watch is Agents of SHIELD, and I'm ridiculously excited about it starting up again on Tuesday. Bwa ha ha.
Sorry there’s no greatness to my lateness, but here I go.
Glad to hear you have another Cassian tale in the works. I’ve had that feeling, briefly, of feeling pressured to write a story. I think that’s when we are most creative. When we’re just enjoying the process.
Yeah, Supergirl is hit or miss, but very cute.
I may try the A – Z. It may be what I need to get out of my slump.
Thanks for stopping by my blog. You and this group mean a lot to an insecure writer like me.
The Chronicles of Shannara - I watched it on Amazon Prime. I thought it was good. I don't remember there being much in the way of actual sex scenes though.
Hahaha, that thing at the end was great fun.
Ooh, I'll try to think of some ideas for writing to submit to the newsletter...
"Just enough has drizzled out to keep interest in my other books..."
Fantastic line.
