Rules to Make Star Wars Great Again, Weekend Box Office, Godzilla 2014 Site, Movie Trivia, Ninja News, Cover Reveals, and IWSG Announcement for Wednesday!

Today I am visiting the wonderful Karen Lange at Write Now! She asked about my Cassa series and my music, so please check it out.

Movie News!

Found this on Jo Blo’s site – TrumanPDX put together this animated open letter to JJ Abrams, requesting that he follow a few simple rules when making the next Star Wars Film:

(Rule five - don't let Lucas anywhere near the next film!)

This weekend’s box office – Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs II was on top and made $35,000 million. This is a huge victory for Sony Animation, as the original film only made $30,000 million the first weekend.
Looking at the per screen average, third was Metallica: Through the Never with an impressive $5,482 average. And it got great reviews.

For those of you counting down until Gareth Edwards’ Godzilla next year (or you are just a Godzilla geek) there is a website dedicated to the film HERE.
And it says a trailer is coming soon!

The season finale of Breaking Bad was Sunday night. Did you catch it? (And I was right about the ending!)

I've not watched Breaking Bad (it's on the paid for channels here!) but as it's been all over the news, internet etc I feel as if I had! LOL!!! I have Breaking Bad envy and hope maybe one day BBC will do a Wire and show all episodes over a week!! Which they did - and by golly that was amazing!

3 is Sigourney Weaver!!

hah!!! I totally see the ninja now - all in his hole! Yay!

Take care

I hope they succeed in making Star Wars great, though it could go either way. I love Julie's cover :)

Annalisa Crawford said...

Argh! I forgot it was IWSG on Wednesday and scheduled a cover reveal... Off to try and sort out my error!

Melissa said...

That Green Eggs cover IS neat.

Lots of good news, as usual. Best wishes all around. :)

Natalie Aguirre said...

Looking forward to the announcement. Guessing what it'll be. I'll see if I'm right.

M.J. Fifield said...

Off the top of my head I know #1 and #6.

And I love the #5 rule for JJ Abrams.

Did you see the Metallica movie?

J.L. Campbell said...

Love the covers. Must check out Pat's site. I like all things cartoon.

Suzi said...

That Star Wars clip is great. I never thought about all that before, but they make great points.

Just curious though, why do you say not to let Lucas near it?

Bob/Sally said...

I had such high hopes for Abrams and Star Trek, but seeing how he's destroyed that franchise, I shudder at the thought of him getting his hands on Star Wars.

Sandra Ulbrich Almazan said...

Congrats to everyone with book releases and cover reveals! I have to come back later to look at those rules.

Rusty Carl said...

I personally think Star Wars can be set in a city and still work. That vid was beautiful though.

I think Bill Pulman is the answer to one of those trivia questions.

Elizabeth Spann Craig said...

I watched "Breaking Bad" for the first season, but lost interest when he wasn't really acting like a Chemistry teacher anymore. :) It got so gritty! But I should probably watch the others.

Used to watch Godzilla stuff when I was a kid...big in the 70s.

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Rhonda, you typed fast enough, and hope you like the big announcement.

Kitty, hope you get to see it. And you are correct.

Annalisa, you could do both.

Natalie, you'll probably be right.

MJ, no I didn't, although I will when it hits DVD.

Suzi, because he almost ruined Star Wars with the last three movies.

Bob, I thought he did great with Star Trek.

Rusty, you're correct.

Elizabeth, it is a very gritty show.

Unknown said...

I hope Star Wars is as good as it can be.
You already know how I feel about Gojira! Thanks for the site.
I hope to contribute to IWSG on my blog Wed.

Jo said...

Some of those books look really appealing and will probably end up on my TBR list.

I saw a lot of those movies but I don't remember who was in them. I generally don't take much notice if the film is good enough. i.e. if I can forget everything but the characters.

Planted, I must check this out.

RaveAir said...

I don't totally agree with the 4 rules of Star Wars. There were cute factor in the classic trilogy (R2D2, ewoks), the imperium side hadn't got second hand feeling, etc.

Trivia: What is the link between the Metallica: Through the Never and the Predators? ;)

Your movie trivia:
1. Ed Harris
2. John Cussack
6. Val Kilmer

Lynda R Young as Elle Cardy said...

Love the 4 rules!! (I mean 5 hehehe) I hope the message goes through!

S.A. Larsenッ said...

I've been wondering what the reaction will be to that Metallica movie. Hmm...I just might take a peek at it, now.

Gosh, Breaking Bad... Seems I need to look at that one, too. I saw some reactions on FB about its last episode.

Karen Jones Gowen said...

I always enjoy your huge announcements! Looking forward to seeing what new and exciting plans you have in store.

J.L. Murphey said...

Loved the letter to Abram. The first movies you had a hero to root for in the later ???

I'm a Godzilla fan but not the type that Broderick played in.

Yeah Nick wtg!

Madeline Mora-Summonte said...

Those are some great cover reveals!

And I'd like to think I'd know some of that trivia but I haven't had my coffee yet...yeah, let's say that's why I don't know any of it...

Louise said...

I actually liked seeing Coruscant and the Jedi Temple and all that. I KNOW. I'm losing all my nerd cred. I agree about the Force needing to be mysterious, though! (And I mostly agree about Star Wars not being cute, but, um, *cough* Ewoks.)

baygirl32 said...

Cathy's cover looks great! I spied that little ninja head popping out :)

Jack said...

That video was great. I've been excited and nervous about the new film and hope it has some of the original's charm.

Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs two was fun. I think I liked it as much as the first, though I'm not a big fan of the first and only watch it when I need a good laugh. It is just a fun movie.

I am a HUGE Godzilla fan. The old black and whites to the last new version of it. (Yeah, I love that movie.) So, a new version is great. There can never be too many godzilla movies.

A Beer for the Shower said...

Breaking Bad was just amazing. Walt Jr. was really Heisenberg the whole time? Man, I never saw that coming!

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

David, glad to have you with the IWSG. And that site is really cool. Glad I found it.

Zoltan, you got three, and will have to think on the answer...

Jo, no one's a fan of that film.

Louise, you didn't lose it all!

Mark Means said...

The "4 Rules" are right on the money!

Congrats to Cathy and Julie and best wishes on their future success :)

Tonja said...

Love the Star Wars clip - they got it exactly right. I hope they don't mess it up.

Sean McLachlan said...

Living in Spain, my wife and I are persistent latecomers to good TV series. We wait until the series are over, find if everyone liked them, then buy the whole boxed set. We'll probably get to Breaking Bad soon.

Karen Lange said...

Thanks for the shout out and compliment, Alex! It's always great to have you visit. You've been a great support and example for us. Thanks also for the info and links. Have a great week! :-)

Ninja helps the cat's garden grow. Agreed, just keep lucas away and it should be way better.

And boom:

Ed Harris
John Cusack
Sigourney Weaver
Bill Pullman
Goldie Hawn
Val Kilmer

Unknown said...

Those SW rules are everything. I think I enjoyed that little video more than the last 3 movies.
Thanks for not spoiling the ending of Breaking Bad. We watch everything years later on Netflix or from the $2 video store, and social media has already told me way too much. Apparently I am friends with people who don't understand the complexities of a "Spoiler Alert." I need to clean out my friend list.

Charles Gramlich said...

I saw those four rules. I agree with them completely.

Maurice Mitchell said...

I'm so glad Cloudy 2 did well at the box office, since my son and I love the first movie. I saw that letter on another site, and wholeheartedly support it although from all accounts he doesn't have much to do with Star Wars these days.

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Jack, heard Cloudy II was fun. And no, there can't be too many Godzilla films. Unless they all suck of course.

Sean, I usually watch series on NetFlix, waiting until they are well underway or finished. Couldn't wait with this series though.

Thanks for the interview, Karen!

Pat, you nailed all six.

Joy, that made me laugh! No spoiler - NetFlix is how I usually watch series as well.

Fran, you got four right!

Tina, that's how I was watching Breaking Bad, but caught up quickly to see the series ending.

Julie, you're welcome!

I saw Meatballs this weekend! I had no idea it was opening weekend, you think I'd pay attention to that stuff, lol. It was way cute, with a few naughty jokes for the parents me and my sister kept giggling at while my son told me that part wasn't funny.

The rules for the next Star Wars is incredibly creative and amusing. I'm with them: cut the cuteness. But that means no Yoda.

Looks like it's going to be a great week, if your Monday post is any indication, as it is.

Just for the heck of it, two guesses:
1) Tom Hanks
6) Tom Cruise.

Helena said...

Congrats to Julie and Juliana -- I'll be checking out their books.

I really agree with the Star Wars rules: It's a western, it's dirty, Jar-Jar should never have happened. I hope JJ gets it right, and I think there's a good chance he will judging by what he did with Star Trek, and because Super 8 was so good.

I'm off to Karen's site now.

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Meradeth, that's how I was watching it but I caught up just to see the ending real time.

Optimistic, you are correct.

Mary, I've been so busy, I haven't even looked at the rankings!

Hildie, good to hear from you!

Helena, agreed!

I actually know #2,5,6 of trivia this time. Woohoo.

Saw Prisoners at the theatre this weekend. Was very good, but a bit painful to watch at times. Kidnapping stories always get to me.

Off with Jar Jar Binks' head for sure!

I never saw Breaking Bad, which is a little surprising for someone named ChemistKen.

Are you saying Somy made 35 Billion dollars on "Meatballs?" they must really be happy.

I hope JJ Abrams sees that video. Can't wait to see what you've got for us tomorrow. (:

I didn't realize they were making a new Star Wars, I've never seen Breaking Bad, and I bombed the trivia.

Angela, it is officially over.

Ken, they should be!

Elizabeth, that made me chuckle...

Yes, those rules will make the next Star Wars film better, although I think that "cute" has always been there since I always thought that R2D2 was cute.

I tweeted that Star Wars video. I'm gonna show it to my classes too--it's National Star Wars Reads day this Saturday so I made a Power Point Presentation for my class: The Top 10 Things Star Wars Taught Me About Writing :-)

Okay, I have to do this first while I'm thinking...1. Mary Elizabeth Monstrontonio (sp)3. Sigourney Weaver (sp)? 4. I want to say Drew Barrymore, but I don't remember her in Rainbow... 5. Goldie Hawn!!!! 6. Kelly McGillis

Not sure about those, but it's fun :)

I watched the video about Star Wars over the weekend. I actually liked it.

Did you notice the scarecrow behind you in the garden :))

Off to visit Ms. Lange!

LOL, I didn't even notice the Ninja on the rhyming cat's header. At least he's not the one with his rhyming ass hanging out! Good luck to Nick and I also hope those rules help the next Star Wars movies 'cuz they have been bad of late.

Love Julie and Julia's (?!) covers! Looking forward to IWSG tomorrow, too. :)

Love Star Wars but the originals were so much better than the prequels.

'Cathy Olliffe-Webster has a cover for her upcoming book! Is that not just perfect?'

Yes. *And* I love the way you phrased that.

Right. Trivia. Let's see:

2. Cusack

5.Goldie

One is driving me crazy. Was it the girl who played the oldest daughter in Apollo 13? Was she, like, the kid in A Beautiful Mind?

I'm ready for IWSG and I love Julie's new cover!

Oh, I'm too early for the announcement! Dumb time change.
My kids are begging to go see Wolkig mit Fleischbällchen. . . Cloudy with a chance of Meatballs ;) I'll be back later then!

Hi Alex - so pleased for Nick, a fellow Brit - I admire him for branching out. Then too Michael designing and writing the blurb for Julie ...

Nice video...The only question I'm stumped on his number 4. I've only seen one of those movies.

I think if they keep Lucas away it that alone might make it a decent movie...

Lots going on and I haven't the energy to deal with it all but best wishes to all!

That's great that the IWSG web site is open! I'll have to go check it out.

I'm still on Season 2 of Breaking Bad on my Netflix and I'm trying very very hard to avoid even glancing at any series finale spoilers online!

I would like to one day (over several weeks) watch the whole series of Breaking Bad. Unfortunately the ending was on the SOUP (was a clip of another show showing the last few moments). ARGH! Hopefully I will forget what happened. :)
Movie answers:
2. John Cusack
3. Sigourney Weaver
5. Goldie Hawn
That's all I know!
