Book Release!

The Partner's Progeny by Shelly Arkon

Bullies rule … or do they?
For seventeen years, Victoria Sheek has been a paralegal surpervisor at the Law Offices of Pereene, Carr, and Sevino, specializing in injury law. Rumors portray her as a bully. She remains confident that her position will never cease because of close relations to one of the founding partners, Mr. Carr.
Until Mr. Pereene, the head partner, hires Monica Bowman. Smitten with her because of her resemblance to his deceases granddaughter, Melissa, and his memories of her, she can do no wrong.
Which one of the two girls will keep their position at the firm? It takes and unexpected event to decide the outcome of this rivalry.

Shelly Arkon is the author of Secondhand Shoes. She lives in New Port Richey with her husband and two dogs. She’s also a member of Florida Writer’s Association and Writer’s of Mass Distraction.

Guest Spots

I enjoy featuring my blogger buddies and welcome a couple guests here every month. My calendar tends to fill quickly, so if you have a book coming out or something interesting you’d like to share, drop me an email. Guest spots are open to my blogger buddies (most of whom are listed in my sidebar) and the guidelines are HERE.

Recently on NetFlix

I really have almost reached the end of NetFlix. Here are some recent watches:

Kill List
Death cult goes to great lengths to recruit man to be their anti-Christ.
Disturbing, creepy, weird, and depressing. Plus evil
Only recommended if you like those things in your movies.
I’ve also come to the conclusion that there are some really bad horror movies out there.

John Dies at the End
Man accidentally takes drug called ‘soy sauce’ and it gives him the ability to see other dimensions.
Weird, fun, quirky, and trippy.
Recommended if you enjoy those four things.

The Finder
Man comes back from the war with the ability to find anything, and once he starts, he can’t stop.
Very fun and funny. Yet another great show tragically cut short after only thirteen episodes.
Check this gem out – highly recommended!

World Trivia

For those of you stumped by my movie and music trivia, this one might be more your style.

1 – What drink did the Incas invent?

2 – Name either of the countries that are home to the Mayan Pyramids.

3 – What large tree grows in Yosemite National Park?

4 – What body of water is the saltiest in the world?

5 – Who is buried under Paris’ Arc de Triomphe?

Answers on Wednesday!

Cheers to everyone who signed contracts recently! Picking up Shelly’s book? Want a guest spot later this year? Seen either NetFlix movie or the show? And do you know any of the trivia answers?

The Insecure Writer’s Support Group posts this Wednesday.

And be sure to visit MJ Joachim today for the inside scoop on the Ninja.

Cheers to all who got contracts or agents. The Finder sounds very interesting. Saw Iron Man 3 yesterday and it was great. Have a good day Alex and can't wait for Wednesday's IWSG.

John Dies at the End, I have been holding onto... waiting for the right moment to, okay just want to be in that kind of mood. I just watched a movie that came out 12 years ago and it's a sequel to the Hitchhiker... it picks up 15 years later... Thomas C. Howell does a reprise of that role... yikes another guy with his thumb out. don't pick these people up.

sorry of target posts, best to all new releases and to Shelly, she thinks I am a weirdo...

Celebrated my 7th anniversary over the weekend... lots of love to my wife putting up with me.

Last, the forth book in the series is back in play, I made the changes... now let's talk about the fifth?

I haven't really had the chance to explore Netflix as much as I should...just one or two shows. Think you've found some interesting ones (and maybe a disturbing one!)

Thanks for updating us on all the news!

1) Diet Coke! LOL!
2) Peru!
3) TreeBeard's family!
4) Er....
5) General De Gaulle!??!

Yay!!!!

There's an end to Netflix?

I tried reading John Dies in the End. So, maybe I'll try the movie.

Laura Pauling said...

Our family watched The Hobbit this weekend. Big thing I noticed is that there was no rising action. The dwarves and Bilbo kept getting into scrape after scrape just for Gandalf to save them at the last minute. The writer in me wanted them to save themselves, at least once.

J.L. Murphey said...

1. Chicha
2. Belize
3. Giant Sequoias
4. Dead Sea
5. The Unknown Soldier

Alex I agree with all your takes with those movies

J.L. Campbell said...

Congrats to all on their signings and releases. Good stuff!

Bish Denham said...

Congratulations to Rebecca, TF and Doralynn! I'll be looking into John Dies at the End and The Finder, they sound like something both hubby and I would enjoy.

1) I know the Mayas and Aztecs introduced us to chocolate, but I have no idea what drink the Incas invented.

2) The Mayan civilization included several Central American countries, like Guatemala and Belize and covered the area of the Yucatan Peninsula.

3)Giant sequoias and/or redwoods.

4)I'll say the Dead Sea.

5) Haven't a clue!

Optimistic Existentialist said...

The answer to #4 is the Dead Sea. I don't know the others. You cracked me up when you wrote that you have come to the conclusion that there are a lot of really bad horror movies out there...yes there are lol.

I can *really* see you on the Couch with that dearest of women, Mrs. C.

1. Hot chocolate (according to the know it all on Polar Express)
2. Mexico (learned that watching Duck Dynasty)
3. Redwood?

I'm guessing, but I think the answers to your questions are:
1. Hot Cocoa?
2. Mexico
3.Giant Redwood
4. Dead Sea
5. Its a war monument, but I don't remember for who.

Congrats to those who've signed with agents, released books, etc. I don't use Netflix. We have PPV. Went looking for Fast 5 the other day(so I'd be ready for the new one in theaters this weekend and couldn't find it anywhere. Ended up borrowing from a friend. Probably would have found it on Netflix. *shrug*

Jeremy, you're number one! John Dies was quirky. Congratulations on seven years! You find a woman that will put up with you that long, hang on to her. (And by you, I mean us in general. We should all be grateful someone said yes.)

Sheena-kay, thanks again for co-hosting.

Kitty, actually it was Diet Pepsi...

Brian, I still need to watch that flick.

Laura, maybe they will in the next film. I did note that as well, although I still really enjoyed it.

JL, you got three right.

Bish, you got three right and are so close on the first one.

Optimistic, no other genre boasts as many crappy movies...

Mark, that made me laugh!

Sheila, you got three, and the Hoffa answer made me laugh.

Sabrina, you got three! And now you are ready for Fast 6.

Julie, another series tragedy...

Elise, I hope you know the last one!

Melanie, glad you are joining us.

I believe the Incas invented hot chocolate. Their version was spicy. I like mine spicy, too. Gives it a fun kick.

Also, I've been curious to check out John Dies at the End. It was written by the senior editor of Cracked (which I am a fan).

Hi, Alex!

I gave up on Netflix when they doubled their prices a while back. Now, I just get stuff form the library.

I liked the guy from The Finder but I didn't think the rest of the cast meshed with him.

World trivia?
Hmmm.
1. I want to say something with chocolate
2. I'm not gonna guess. I suck at geography.
3. Redwood?
4. Dead sea?
5. Napoleon?

I either sound really smart or terribly dumb.

Happy Monday!

Couldn't agree more on The Finder. Great show that wasn't given a chance....typical for the Fox Network, though. Though, I did like the original cast from the "Bones" episode a bit more, it was still a fun show even after it was spun off.

John Dies at the End is one I saw on my list, but hadn't watched yet. I'll have to give it a try...thanks for the recommendation :)

Tobi Summers said...

Oh man, I loved the Finder. More than Bones, actually. The cast had great chemistry, and I found the whole thing hilarious.

#4 is the Dead Sea, but that's the only trivia question I know.

I've been very curious to try the novel of John Dies at the End. Do you have any feelings on it, Alex?

Jack said...

Sshelley's book actually sounds very good. I don't normally like stories like that because of all the romance in them, but this one sounds new and different. I will have to keep an eye out for it.

I've heard about that movie, JOhn dies in the end, and have considered watching it. Might have to do so sometime.

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Carol, I usually watch about six hours at work, maybe forty total in a week.

Crystal, I'm happy to feature anyone there who had a cool Challenge theme.

Heather, you got a couple right. I think you sound smart.

Mark, FOX is infamous for killing good shows too early.

Tobi, you are correct.

Jay - bingo! We have a winner.

Stephen, nice guess. Wrong, but nice try.

Doralynn, you are welcome!

Suze, you got three.

Mary, you're welcome, and you're correct.

John, I haven't read it.

4. I think it's the Dead Sea perhaps.
5. *shrugs*

Michael Offutt, Phantom Reader said...

Wasn't "The Finder" a "Bones" spin-off? I know one of the actors, Michael Clark Duncan, is dead now. I too enjoyed the series when it was on television. The spinoff occurred about the time I stopped watching Bones because they killed off a character I liked and that upset me.

Anonymous said...

I would recommend for Netflix watching:

1) The Boy in the Striped Pajamas (if you're into that serious WWII stuff)

2) The Hole (if you're into some slightly trippy horror)

3) All the Land Before Time Movies because it will bring back beautiful memories and make you cry.

Congrats to all who received contracts and agents!

My answers to the trivia questions:

1 – What drink did the Incas invent?

Hot Chocolate

2 – Name either of the countries that are home to the Mayan Pyramids.

Belize, where someone actually went and turned one into gravel to tar roads... >_<

3 – What large tree grows in Yosemite National Park?

The redwood.

4 – What body of water is the saltiest in the world?

Dead Sea. No outlet, so the water only evaporates, leaving the salts.

5 – Who is buried under Paris’ Arc de Triomphe?

An Unknown Soldier who died in WWI.

Of course I work for a travel company who goes to these countries so i'm saying Guatemala. The sequoia is the giant tree in Yosemite, the Dead Sea is the saltiest. I have no idea what the Incas invented except I do know they were early consumers of cocaine in the form of coca leaves. :)

Thank you for the congratulations Alex. I have been completely blown away by all the good wishes for this! Thank you.

Congratulations also to TF Walsh and Doralynn Kennedy for their contracts! Wishing them all the best!

As for films, I attempted to take little man to the cinema this weekend, but there were four films on he wanted to see, he was so spoilt for choice he couldn't make his mind up, so when his made came round to play, he said he didn't want to go, so I didn't go! :(

I'm so far behind on blog comments; I started at 7p tonight, got sidetracked by e-mails, my kid, phone calls, and next thing I know its way past bedtime and haven't gotten to any of the blogs I set out to read.

Trivia: uhm, the Myans are in Mexico (or is is Guatamala) and So Africa I think. The Great Salt Lake in Utah seems an easy answer for that one, since you said "body" not sea. And since Yosemite is in Calif, the old trees must be either Redwoods or Sequoia's.

Sheesh, I'm not better at this trivia than at any of the others.

I don't know the answers to any of these. :(

Hildie, you HAD to see Star Trek!

Michael, you always come up with something awesome.

Angela, I'll make some up for you!

Chuck, you got three right. Close on the last one. No, not Napoleon!

Jamie, you got a couple right.

Rebecca, you're welcome, and that's funny.

Donna, it may be late, but you got some of those right.

Great post on Rachna’s Scriptorium, Alex! Loved yuor tips.

Congratulations Rebecca Bradley, TF Walsh and Doralynn Kennedy!

Good luck on your release Shelly Arkon.

Oh, these trivia questions seem interesting. I'll give it a blast.

1 – What drink did the Incas invent? - was it coffee?

2 – Name either of the countries that are home to the Mayan Pyramids - Brazil, chilli? Mexico?

3 – What large tree grows in Yosemite National Park? No idea. Redwoods grow pretty big, right?

4 – What body of water is the saltiest in the world? The Dead Sea.

5 – Who is buried under Paris’ Arc de Triomphe? An unknown soldier from World War I.

Talk about dumb, I had none of the answers. Great post over on M. J.'s.

I liked the Finder too, interesting characters, loved the voodoo shows.

Does this mean I'm the last to post, as always.

Congrats to all of those who have signed contracts!

Looking forward to ISWG tomorrow night.
See you then.

I echo everyone else when I wish a big, fat CONGRATULATIONS to those authors taking off!

I keep seeing this "John Diees at the End" of all these lists of good horror movies (which, you're very right, are NOT easy to find)... will have to check it out.

Hi Alex .. I get completely lost when you post about tv series .. and usually never see them here, when they arrive either ..

So many books and new contracts out there - congratulations to all achievers ..

I was wondering about Joan of Arc under the Arc de Triomphe .. but I expect it's an unknown soldier ..

Cheers Hilary

A drug called soy sauce, okay that made me laugh! And what drink did the Incas invent... would that be coffee?

Meradeth Houston said...

Congrats on all those agents and contracts! Fun trivia, too :) I only didn't know #5, well, I'm not sure. I'll have to google!

I got three of the trivia questions right! I think...

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Clare, you got three right!

Yolanda, not last!

Beverly, it's more science fiction, and it'd odd but worth a watch.

Hilary, your suspicions are correct.

Catherine, sorry!

Yay for IWSG tomorrow--it'll kick my butt in gear to start blogging again . . .haven't blogged since the last one on May 1st! So much to do the last month of school, but I have made time to watch the new Arrested Development on Netflix :-)

Kirsten said...

Big Congrats to Rebecca and Tania, both of whom I met through the IWSG. :) It's so inspiring to watch my fellow writers do well!

What exactly do you mean by the end of Netflix? Please don't tell me Netflix is going away? That would make me very sad.

I love the trivia questions even though I know none of the answers because now I get to learn something new. :)

Sherry Ellis said...

All kinds of great ninja news! I think I might know the answers to your trivia. This is more up my alley.

1. The Incas invented a drink called Chicha

2. Mexico is a home of Mayan pyramids.

3. Giant Sequoias grow in Yosemite

4. The saltiest body of water is the Dead Sea (and I got to float in it!)

5. The Unknown Soldier is buried under the Arc de Triomphe.

I loved the Finder! I was sad when the show stopped... Now off to go write a IWSG post! :-)

Congrats to all. Really good news! Thanks for the links and for sharing -- umm, CLNC or Fort Bragg?

More into the baseball tourney and LSU going to Omaha *fingers and toes crossed* than movies and stuff.

#2-Mexico and #4 The Dead Sea!

I don't like the creepy depressing horror kinds of movies.

Congrats to everyone who's gotten signed! Off to get the scoop!

I've been catching up on the new season of Arrested Development on Netflix. Not as good as the first three seasons but enjoyable.

Incas invented Red Bull.

I've never heard of any of those Netflix recent watches! But I love the cover of the third one, half underwater. Happy IWSG.

Cheers to all those who got agents and signed book contracts.

As I fell sick over the weekend, I still have to visit all the bloggers who visited my blog and left comments on your guest post. Will combine it with the IWSG visits.
