Why Do I Blog, SyFy’s Chupacabra vs. The Alamo, Ninja and Entertainment News, and Movie Trivia Answers

Sydney Aaliyah has been celebrating two years of blogging this month with guests discussing why they blog. Today, it is my turn. Thank you for asking, Sydney! Please join me at her site and discover why I blog. (Besides the usual fame, fortune, and a shot at Kate Beckinsale!)

Ninja News

Michael Di Gesu is looking for new books and authors for his A to Z Challenge theme! You know how his introductions rock, and for twenty-six days, he will rock twenty-six books. Visit his site or contact him directly at mculi AT aol DOT com.

The A to Z Challenge starts in one week!! I’m revealing my theme this Friday. It’s along the same idea as the past two years, but with a twist or two. Or three!

Misha Gericke’s manuscript for Doorways was accepted by Etopia Press. Congratulations, Misha!

Donna Weaving had some great examples of past perfect and how to use it.

And you can now add CassaStorm on Goodreads HERE!

The SyFy Saturday Night Craptastic

Saturday night while surfing the basketball games, I discovered yet another SyFy movie original. Opting to take a break from watching my brackets go up in flames, I tuned in to the first ten minutes of Chupacabra vs. The Alamo. These were my thoughts:

Vicious animal attack in drainage tunnel, lots of blood…. Wait, that’s not a chupacabra, that’s a Chihuahua with a skin condition.

No, not Erik Estrada! Guess the director had a photo of him with a donkey as well.

Estrada has a teenaged daughter. Crap, the dude is sixty-three – he should be playing her grandfather.

They green screened Erik Estrada riding his motorcycle through the desert. We’re talking 1970’s local weatherman quality green screen!

Estrada drives through the hot desert and arrives at the drainage tunnel… soaking wet? Wow, he was so hot he pitted out his leather jacket.

I’m done! They should’ve named this movie Erik Estrada vs. His Dignity.

Entertainment News

The Croods were number one at the box office with a domestic take of almost $45 million.

The NCAA March Madness saw several upsets this weekend, including favorite Gonzaga losing to Witchita State. We won’t even discuss my bracket at the moment.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation comes out this Friday – and it actually got a good review from Jo Blo’s site.

The Swedish metal band Soilwork recently released their ninth album – and took a leap of faith with a double album! Their last disc was ‘all right’ and I almost didn’t purchase this one. Glad I did – The Living Infinite is brilliant!

And they just released an updated and extended version of the trailer for World War Z at Jo Blo’s site view it HERE

Movie Trivia Answers!

1 – “If this is foreplay, I’m a dead man.” Cocoon - Jack (Steve Guttenburg)
2 – “The Fourth of July will no longer be known as an American holiday, but as the day when the world declared in one voice, ‘We will not go quietly into the night…’” Independence Day – The President (Bill Pullman)
3 – “His pattern indicates two-dimensional thinking.” Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan – Spock (Leonard Nimoy)
4 – “Can I ask you a personal question? Have you ever retired a human by mistake?” Blade Runner – Rachel (Sean Young)
5 - “I just want to know that it’s really happening.” Close Encounters of the Third Kind – Roy Neary (Richard Dreyfuss)

Have a book suggestion for Michael? Catch any of the SyFy Craptastic? (My apologies if you did.) How are your brackets holding up? Seeing any movies soon? And how did you do on the trivia?

Don’t forget to visit Sydney Aaliyah!

Oh, that SyFy movie sounds hilarious! Estrada? Really?

Jeremy [Retro] said...

I went to see Olympus Has Fallen, what a great film... it was a whim film no idea what it was about. A to Z should be great and a lot of fun... fun people, it's suppose to be fun.

Laura Pauling said...

My kids and I want to watch The Croods. The trailers make it look hilarious. Hopefully, they didn't show the best parts of the movie!

Unknown said...

I do want to see the Croods sometime. We can't go to cinemas because of the Hubby's back. The only thing I plan to see is The Hobbit when it comes out on DVD.

Saw Hotel Transylvania - it was cute.

Saw the second to last episode of the season for The Walking Dead - can't get it out of my head! So well done!

A-Z theme? Um, still working on it... :)

Elsie Amata said...

I just read above that Olympus Has Fallen is a great film and I'm happy to hear it because I'm thinking that may be our next flick to see in the movies. We try to wait until the crowds die down.

I can't believe Estrada is still around. Unless that movie was wicked old too!!

Unknown said...

All of these are films are new to me. I will have to find some time to watch them.

Soilwork is al
so new to me, I will have to check them out!

Elizabeth, his dignity definitely lost.

Jeremy, I thought about seeing that film.

Anne, I purchased The Hobbit last week but still haven't had a chance to watch it yet.

Madeline, it will come to you.

Elise, no, it was a brand new movie. He didn't look bad though.

Yes, Chupacabra vs The Alamo sounds bad, but is it worse than Mega Shark Versus Giant Octopus? That's like my gauge of how bad a SyFy movie is. Also, I will never get tired of this clip.

Yikes - I'm reading that some people have already done their A-Z posts. I know my theme and that's it! I bet I get to see The Croods this Easter break. Thing is, I enjoy these films more than the 9 year old!

Congratulations to Misha! My kids are dying to see The Croods. I'd rather see GI Joe.

My nephew was just talking about The Croods. I hope it's as fun as it looks. Since it's doing well at the box office, I'm taking that as a good sign!

Congrats to Misha!!! And Yay I got two answers for the trivia right!

I'm sorry about the SyFy movie disaster . . . makes me glad I just watched a Good Luck Charlie episode with my kids last night. We did watch The Hobbit on blue-ray this weekend, but it was our second time seeing the movie . . . and it's still really good. :)

Mark Means said...

Sometimes those SyFy 'original' movies are so bad, they're good :)

Sydney is great and congrats to her!

I'm looking forward to G.I. Joe and can't wait to see how Bruce Willis does as "Joe"....even though he won't have a fuzzy beard or hair :)

ohmigod we watched the Chupacabra movie too. *hides* It's one of those SyFy movies that you know you should look away and stab your eyeballs with popsicle sticks but...you just can't.

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Angela, I am here for your amusement!

Optimistic, so many upsets this time!

Jo, true, it's technically not.

Bryan and Brandon, I didn't watch enough to make that call. However, it was not up to Sharktopus standards.

Yvonne, not a chance.

Susan, time to start writing!

Yvonne, he knows! I was about to comment on it last night when it vanished and I sent him an email. Some strange glitch, I'm sure.

Yolanda, that's cool!

Tyrean, I was going to watch The Hobbit, just didn't have a spare three hours.

Betty, you roll how you like!

Liesel, thanks!

Liz, just say no!

Heather M. Gardner said...

I saw the commercial for that SyFy movie this weekend. I yelled out, "Ponch!" and my husband started cracking up. It looked awful. I hope you'll be okay.

I don't do much basketball but football sign ups start soon for the 7 yr old!!!

I'm saving my pennies for May. It's going to be a good movie month. :)

Trivia - Ha, ha, ha. I got one

They already yanked that trailer for 'World War Z' from Jo Blo's site, at least I can't see it. That could be me, many things are not available for viewing in the Caribbean.

Al Diaz said...

Chupacabra vs. Alamo starring Erick Estrada...Hmmm, my cheeks are starting to hurt just because of the size of my grin. And you actually watched the whole movie??? Man! you could have had more fun watching the slimy trail of a snail.
This reminds me of that one night I actually saw a whole Teletubbie episode, just to see how close could I get to a brain short circuit. High risk sport, I tell you.

Chupacabra versus the Alamo. Oh my god.

Maurice Mitchell said...

That sounds like a horrible film. It's so easy to film an actor on a motorcycle I can't believe they wouldn't go that extra inch. I was talking with my friends this weekend about how the odds of getting a perfect bracket is greater than winning the Powerball (9 quadrillion), so I don't feel too bad my bracket is destroyed.

Hart Johnson said...

Oh, the Chupacabra movie sounds so bad it's good again!

My bracket is doing pretty well, BTW (though I did have Gonzaga) but my DUCKS are AWESOME (and I support Arizona outside conference stuff--can't support any Cal teams, so that's okay they're out) but then both Michigan teams still in... so yes... Tart should have placed a bet...

Heather, I should live...

Faraway, bummer!

Al, that's why I only made it through ten minutes of the film. My brain was beginning to sizzle.

Ilima, I hope everyone like the theme.

Maurice, if anyone comes through with a perfect bracket, I'll be stunned. And there were some shots of him on the bike, so I don't know why they couldn't have filmed them all like that.

Hart, you're doing better than I am.

Michael, I'll check - I just copied what she had.

Julia, I have that show taped but haven't watched yet.

Well, since UK is in 'rebuilding' mode, brackets have no meaning for me this year. I have heard The Croods is good- but I haven't had a chance to see it yet. I would have know the Independence Day quote- but that is it. :)

This year I didn't fill out a bracket- since I don't ever know what I am doing. But- I usually have fun checking to see how "my teams" are doing. :)

I adore Michael- what a fun guy. He does some great guest spots, too. Authors would be lucky to be one of the books he rocks it with for the challenge.

I'm prepping my A to Z stuff now- terror!

Off to visit me some Sydney...

Congrats Misha, she deserves it for all her hard work.
I am still on the fence with A-Z, I will have to wing it if I do join, will have to make do with photos and books.

Sorry for the late visit, but my son had minor surgery on Monday. I'm catching up on everything now. Okay, trying to. :)
My kids saw the Croods this weekend with daddy. I'm not sure who enjoyed it more. They all came home raving about it. I wish I could have gone with them. Oh well, I guess I'll watch it on DVD.

Late visit, don't know what is going on with me. I think I'm moving through time differently. Love your review of SyFy's flick. I tried to watch, but ended up falling asleep.

I read Sydney's interview and am happy to learn a bit more about you, Alex. And I love your reasons to blog--all reasons why you have so many people who support you!

Wow, you did pick an ambitious theme. I thought I had a good idea for a theme, but when I started working out a few blogs I discovered it wasn't such a bright idea.

I am having difficulty with WordPress, and leaving comments on blogs. It seems I have to sign in using a multitude of identities, either FB, G+, or whatever. Why is this so difficult?
