News, Bloggers, Quiz, and Next Blogfest...?

Lots of great stuff today!

Jeremy at izombie just released an eBook called Chatterbox! It’s a series of short stories (almost like Drabbles) with images created by Jeremy himself. Check it out at Chatterbox
He’ll also be doing a guest spot here in a few weeks.

Last summer I took a class called Blog Book Tours and it really helped me prepare for my first virtual book tour. Dani is offering another class in September and you don’t want to miss it!

I received the Appreciated Follower Award, created by RJR Daydreamer
It’s too honor followers who visit and comment on a regular basis.
Wow, you all deserve it! Where do I begin? Without all of you commenting, I’d just be talking to myself.
I pass this on to…
Laila at Untroubled Kingdom of Laila Knight
Old Kitty at Ten Lives and Second Chances
Patrick Tillett

Alexia gave me the Liebster Blog Award. This award is to recognize bloggers with less than two hundred followers. (Yeah, I’m a bit over the limit!)
Here are three bloggers who deserve some recognition:
Huntress at Spirit Called
Monti at Notes Along the Way
Budd at SciFi Media

And since you guys enjoyed last Friday’s quiz, here’s two more pop culture questions:

The Lexx was a living spaceship on these four TV movies before it was a series – name the movie series title!

Name the song VH1 Classics declared as the number one rock song of the 1980’s. Bonus fuzzy feelings if you can name the second song as well!

Tune in Friday for some big news – the next awesome Blogfest!

Any guesses?

And has anyone located Boba Fett’s Carbonite Crunch?

Mornin' Alex. No idea what the blogfest is but I wish you all fun in doing whatever it is.

Nice of you to help promote iZombie's new project.

Not much new here, but wanted to wish you a fun and productive day.

Cheers.

Congrats on the well deserved awards Alex, Another blogfest how wonderful? I love those. look forward to see what the next is about,

Congrats on the awards, Alex! Way to go!

I have no clue what the answer is to the living spaceship TV series. I'll take a shot at the #1 rock song of the 80s since that's when I was a teen. Livin' on a Prayer by Bon Jovi?

Number 2 is harder. Hmmm. How about Sweet Child of Mine by Guns N Roses?

Laila Knight said...

Alex, thank you so much for the award. That was very sweet, and congrats on the Liebster Mr. 800+ :) That series was either called Lexx of the Dark Zone? I'm pretty sure I've seen you comment about this somewhere else. I know I'm going to kick myself for skipping the music question. Have no idea what the next fest is. Please do tell. Are talking ice cream again? :)

Whisk, anything I can do to help a friend!

Yvonne, I hope you like it.

Suzie, you got one of those right.

Nice to hear there's a blogfest coming up! I started a new blog last month and I need to get into the network.
Is there a site that regularly lists upcoming blogfests? I can't seem to find one. Lots of bloggers announce them but that's rather haphazard. It would be a good resource to have them listed all in one place.

Jules said...

Way to go izombie! Congrats on the awards and I don't even remember the 80's let alone a song. :)

Blogfest... something with music?

It is too early and I have not had my coffee so my brain is not kicking in on the '80s music trivia. Some time later today I'll probably slap my forehead and go, right! *That* one. But since it's a decade of music, chances are good whatever comes to mind won't be *the* one. :)

Have not actively tracked down chocolate Boba Fett, but thanks for the reminder!

well done, alex, and other winners :)

i watched bits of lexx back in the day when i still watched tv... some characters i liked, most of the clips i saw i did not care for... maybe had to be there from the beginning?

since i'm papa to a 15-mo-old gsd, will have little time to do much, incl my own writing... at least til he gets to know my routine, and i his... cuz he's in a [very] strange place [mine], he had me take him out for a long pee around 4 am... i did manage another hour or so of sleep afterwards... got him yesterday afternoon, so it'll be a while til we both settle in ;)

Laura Eno said...

You seem to be everywhere, Alex! Congrats on the awards and no, I haven't seen Boba Fett. Can you lend me some of your energy?

Stephanie Lorée said...

Pretty sure the Lexx was the ship in the self-named Lexx TV show.

Erm... Farscape!

Rock songs of the 1980's? Jump!
LOL! Erm... Legs by that threesome with the long beards!

Congrats with your awards!!!

And yay for nominating me and Charlie! Awwwwwwwww shucks - we blush, blush!!!!

Off I go! Take care

Thank you Alex. Your blog became a daily ritual for me during A to Z blogfest. Thank you for providing a meeting place for all like-minded SF/F.

i am humbled, thanks for the shout out...

congrats on your flower.

Congrats on your awards. I asked hubby, who is into sci-fi much more than I am. His guess for the Lexx - Battlestar Galactica.

Budd said...

Thanks, Alex. I would also like to thank the people that follow me for following me, and I guess because it is for people below 200 followers, I would like to thank the people that stopped by and didn't follow me. Hope everyone enjoyed themselves regardless of whether or not I was followed.

Budd said...

oh, the answer to the first question was Lexx. I believe it originally aired on Showtime before recieving a Sci Fi channel(not yet syfy) show that was good but less so due to not showing the main character in her birthday suit constantly.

Sarah McCabe said...

Awesome! I love seeing blog awards passed around. I inevitably find another great blog to follow.

Looking forward to your next blogfest very much!

Luanne G. Smith said...

Congrats on the awards...um, let's see. 1980's rock music....VH1...

I'm going with Joan Jett. I Love Rock And Roll. :PP

Sarah Tokeley said...

I saw you tell Suzie she had one right so I'll say that Livin' on a Prayer is number one. Which means I can't guess Guns n Roses as number two now. Aww. How about Van Halen's Jump?

Off to check out Jeremy's book now :)

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Laila, you're on to something...

Civil, not that I've ever seen.

Laughing, Lexx came from an odd series...

Kitty, so close!

Huntress, you are welcome.

Jeremy, you're welcome - and you're smarter than you think.

Budd, that was funny. Remember the name of those movies though?

Sarah, that may be a good guess...

Elizabeth Spann Craig said...

Congrats on the awards, Alex! And...I totally second your thoughts on Dani's Book Blog Tour. She has a fantastic class.

Oooooo. . .more trivia! Now if we're talking all 80s songs, it's got to be Bon Jovi's Living on a prayer. Unless it's the VH1 one-hit wonder show? Which is a totally awesome countdown as well. And the Lexx the ship was on Lexx the show. Canadians make fun TV!

George Beremov [Nebular] said...

The next blogfest has to involve people or at least characters.... that's my guess. Congrats on both awards - they're so sweet. :)

Amy said...

Congrats on the awards! :)

As for the questions, I'll have to look those up - they're tough ones!

Bossy Betty said...

Congrats on the awards. Next blogfest: Posts about when you last dressed up like cotton candy. I'm in, baby!

I know Journey's Don't Stop Believing is the number one all time downloaded song, so I'll say that's the answer to the VH1 Classic Quiz. Runner Up: Probably a Micheal Jackson son like Thriller.

Charles Gramlich said...

Carbonite crunch? I think I had that for breakfast the other day. :)

Arlee Bird said...

Have no idea about the quiz questions.

Will be interested to see the next Blogfest.

I'll go with Livin' On A Prayer since I saw someone else pick that and one of her answers is right. Besides, Bon Jovi is one of my all-time favorites; one of the few concerts I've attended more than once.

Congrats on your well deserved awards!

I too will have to googlt those answers - the 80s was sooooo long ago. I was also drunk throughout most of it!

Liking your movie critiques but hate having to wait for the UK release dates. We still don't have Cowboys & Aliens yet!

The questions: 1) I have no clue 2) I wasn't even born yet- lol, um my guess is something by Michael Jackson?

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Elizabeth, yes she does!

Ann, there's a whole army of awesome bloggers out there.

Julie, you one smart chick!

Betty, your answers might frighten me...

Paul, I need to pick harder questions.

Chris, if I don't, then you run with it.

YONKS, what a shame!

Rusty Carl said...

It's always great to see you helping others out. I'll take a peek at the new ebook.

I may be way off here, but I thought there was a show called Lexx. Was that a trick question?

The two biggest rock songs of the 80's? Um, I do recall spending endless hours shadowboxing to my turntable playing "The Eye of the Tiger". I think I killed a whole summer doing little else. Surely that's the biggest hit.

The only other song I could think of that was close as that in popularity was "Poir Some Sugar on Me". I was in high school by then and was mostly cruising town with my windows rolled down with that blasting from my radio. I'm pretty sure all the ladies loved that.

Pat Tillett said...

Congrats to you and to those you awarded. Thanks so much for passing one off to me. I truly appreciate the thought! I'll be sure to check out the others.
The song...This is a tough one!
Even thought I think the Axl Rose is a jerk, I'm going to have to go with Sweet Child of Mine as the top song of the '80s.
Thanks again Alex!

Congrats on the awards. And I can not wait until your next blogfest. Count me in!

Golden Eagle said...

Congratulations on the awards!

I have no idea what the answers are to those questions . . . looking forward to finding what the blogfest will be about! :)

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Rusty, you might have one right! And the movies featuring the Lexx had a different title.

Pat, that is a good guess. And you're welcome!

Clarissa and Golden, I will announce it this Friday.

Jemi Fraser said...

Congrats on the awards! :)

I'm terrible at remembering dates. Hmm.. I think Queen was 70s - maybe Bon Jovi????

Mel Chesley said...

Hmm... I'm going to have to go check out that class.
As usual Alex, I love your posts. I always look forward to reading them.
Congrats on those awards! You deserve them even if you are over limmit. :D

Jamie Gibbs said...

COngrats on the awards. Looking forward to the next virtual blog tour too :)

I'm gonna take a HUGE stab in the dark and say that the #1 song of the 1980s was Def Leppard's Pour Some Sugar On Me (because even if it wasn't voted as such, it damn well should be) followed by Safety Dance ;)

Mary@GigglesandGuns said...

Congrats on the awards and those are great choices for pass-ons.
Alex, about the talking to yourself thing, we know you do it. Why deny it? :D

Congrats on the awards and you're definately one of my Liebster Blogs, too.

And I wonder what blogfest that might be...

Regretably I cannot answer either of those questions. Never was much of a tv fan. Love music, but missed the eighties, was into classical music then.
But congratulations on the awards, and congrats to izombie as well

Thanks, Anthony.

Thanks, Lynda!

Lyn, that's all right, I fixed it.

I can't guess the song but I loved the 80's and I'm always pleasantly surprised by how many of today's teenagers love that music too.

Congratulations on the awards! I'll have to go check out those blogs :)

Congratulations on your award. I was like, four years old in 1980. But I would guess either Michael Jackson's "Beat It," or U2's "One."

Hold up a sec. Is that last one in the wrong decade?

No, BFCCrunch yet... ;D I will make my own damn it, lol! My kids saw Crack pie on TV and now that is also a request at my house. No worries the crust is a combo of oatmeal cookie, no raisins and the filling is something like pecan pie without the nuts; highly addictive is the reason for the name! I rather have the ice cream :D
