November Movie Lineup!

Who's ready for a movie?!?

5th-

Megamind
Director: Tom McGrath
Stars: Will Ferrell, Jonah Hill, Brad Pitt
The Plot: Megamind (Ferrell) is the most brilliant super-villain the world has ever known, though after several unsuccessful attempts to conquer Metro City, a new foe sees him attempt -- for the first time in his life -- to use his powers for good.
Could be good, could really suck!

Due Date
Director: Todd Phillips
Stars: Robert Downey Jr., Zach Galifianakis, Michelle Monaghan
The Plot: High-strung father-to-be Peter Highman (Downey Jr.) is forced to hitch a ride with aspiring actor Ethan Tremblay (Galifianakis) on a road trip in order to make it to his child's birth on time.
Robert Downey Jr. makes this one a possibility…

12th-

Skyline
Director: Colin Strause Greg Strause
Stars: Eric Balfour, Donald Faison, Scottie Thompson
The Plot: A group of friends fight to survive as a mysterious light source causes people to vanish into the air.
Have you seen the latest trailer? I am so there!!

Unstoppable
Director: Tony Scott
Stars: Denzel Washington, Chris Pine, Rosario Dawson
The Plot: A rail company frantically works to prevent an unmanned, half-mile-long freight train carrying combustible liquids and poisonous gas from wiping out a city.
Based on a real incident which only lasted an hour, involved no dangerous materials, and didn’t destroy cars or maim a soul. LOOSELY based I guess!

19th-

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1
Director: David Yates
Stars: Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert Grint
The Plot: Harry (Radcliffe), Hermione (Watson), and Ron (Grint) set out from Hogwarts to find and destroy the Horcruxes -- the secret to Voldemort's power and immortality.
Why two parts? More money!!! Bloodsuckers. I’ll probably still see it…

26th-

Tangled
Director: Nathan Greno Byron Howard
Stars: Mandy Moore, Zachary Levi
The Plot: Rapunzel (voice of Moore), a princess with 70 feet of magical, golden hair, has been locked away for years in a tower high above her kingdom. Desperate to be free, she strikes a deal with Flynn Rider (voice of Levi), a handsome bandit who chooses her tower as a hide-out spot.
Looks fun and funny! Yeah, I'm a sucker...

Faster
Director: George Tillman Jr.
Stars: Dwayne Johnson, Billy Bob Thornton, Maggie Grace
The Plot: An ex-con (Johnson) sets out to avenge his brother's death after they were double-crossed during a heist years ago. During his campaign, however, he's tracked by a veteran cop (Thornton) and an egocentric hit man.
For those who don’t want to go sit with the masses seeing Tangled - dumb, mindless violence!

What are you eager to see?

Harry Potter!!!! And Red. Probably Due Date. And HARRY POTTER!!!

Skyline and Unstoppable look good, too. Even if it's loosely based, it has Denzel Washington and Chris Pine in it, so....

I agree about the two parts being a money vacuum. But there's just so much to include. I wish we could go back to the days when seeing a movie was an EVENT and there was intermission. Not that I'm quite old enough to ever have experienced that sort of thing. But it would be fun. I think....

Thanks for posting the list!

Renae said...

Too many good movies this month. Of course I already have my tickets for Harry Potter! My daughter also wants to see Tangled. Thanks for the list Alex!

Due date interests me. I'll probably skip Harry Potter unless my children convince me to go. They're all in their teens or twenties but they grew up reading Harry and want to see how the movie poeple do the ending.

Skyline and Tangled are high on my lost. Megamind too. The rest ... I'll wait and see what my friends think of them first.

A little excited about Harry Potter, Words Crafter? I've seen a couple movies that were so long, they had an intermission.

Renae, it's a good month!

Stephen, Skyline is first on my list!

Skyline and Harry Potter, those are my main ones. Though I'll probably check out Megamind and Due Date on video. Faster just looks horrible.

I'm not fond of the HP movies, but I'll probably have to sit through this one with my daughter.

I hadn't heard of Unstoppable, but it looks really good. I might try to get to that one. Thanks!

Hey, speaking of movies, did you see my favorite actor Kyle Chandler is starring in Super 8? I can't wait! :-)

Helen Ginger said...

I'll probably go see Harry Potter and maybe Unstoppable. I hadn't heard of Skyline, but it looks good. Movies and popcorn. Yay.

Pat Tillett said...

Due Date-absolutely!
SkyLine-Oh Yeah!
Unstoppable-when I can see it for free.

As always, thanks for the reviews.

Martin Kozicki said...

In for Megamind, Skyline, HP and Tangled. Not going to see Faster, but glad The Rock is not doing another movie with bunnies and puppy dogs this year.

L. Diane Wolfe said...

I hope to see some of those. Tangled looks adorable!!

Jeff Beesler said...

Skyline and Harry Potter are my favorite picks.

Summer Ross said...

I want to see "tangled" and "harry potter" LOl I know I'm a kid at heart really.

George Beremov [Nebular] said...

I'm mildly interested in "Megamind" and "Faster".

Can't wait for "Skyline", "Tangled" and "HPATDH"!

As for "Due Date"... well, I hated the trailer, I hated director's previous crap "The Hangover", so I'll probably skip it.

DEZMOND said...

I won't miss TANGLED and SKYLINE.

M.J. Nicholls said...

They all look a little pants, but I will trust your judgement. (And the fact I won't be watching them, leaving me free to heap praise everywhere).

Colene Murphy said...

Most all those, I'm dying to see! SOOO Excited for Harry though. I just can't wait!

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

TS, just trying to cover the bases. Probably won't see Faster until NetFlix.

Mary, there's a lot of buzz around Super 8!! I'll definitely see that one next year.

Martin, me too!

Nebular, if it weren't for Downey, I'd give Due Date no thought. Now I'm at least curious enough to watch it on NetFlix.

Golden Eagle said...

Harry Potter of course! :D

Rawknrobyn.blogspot.com said...

I'm intrigued by Megamind. If only Brad Pitt wasn't in it. The star is kind of cute, though.

Already got my tickets for Harry Potter!

Hey Alex - Skyline, Harry Potter and Tangled. I also want to see Due Date, but I'll wait for it to come out on Netflix.

We're counting down the days until the first Deathly Hallows movie comes out. Seriously. Can't.Wait.

Happy Halloween!!

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Robin, are you anti-Pitt?

Harry Potter is big on everyone's list, but so is Skyline.

Harry Potter, DueDate, Skyline and Tangled!!! Harry Potter ESPECIALLY

I saw the trailor on Dez's blog. Amazing. Looking forward to that. Also looking forward to Tangled.

Old Kitty said...

Oooh I think they're all good - even the mindless violent one - I don;t mind these every so often!!!

The last Harry Potter film for me was such a disappointment - Half blood Prince I think...I just remember going to the cinema full of really excited and over excitable kids - all eager and clapping when the film started but by the end I could see most were so bored - lots of fidgeting, leaving, moving about! LOL!! The difference in say Toy Story 3, again same cinema full of kids (not necessarily the same!!!) - all ok to start with but by the end were standing clapping and refusing to leave even when the lights went up!! Now that's true cinema magic!

I'm blabbering on now so I better go!! LOL!

Thanks for the heads up on these films! Take care
x

I already have my tickets for a midnight show of Harry Potter so you know I'm looking forward to that one.

I'm also interested in Megamind and Tangled but probably won't go the theater to see them. There's always Netflix...

Ella said...

These look great! I went to the movies this afternoon; I wanted to so see RED, did what the teens wanted. We went to Paranormal 2...
it was a disappointment. They had a good time, so it worked out fine, but
I kept waiting to jump out of my seat, didn't happen.

I think I going back to go see RED...
I know a lot of Retired Extremely
Dangerous people, ex military, lol

Roland D. Yeomans said...

Of course, I'm ready to see part I of the last Harry Potter movie (one day I hope to see a Victor Standish movie LOL)

RED was a lot of fun. MONSTERS looks to be fun, too, with a true love story to flesh out the chills. SKYLINE may be interesting.

Robert Downey, Jr. always makes his movies interesting, though the plot sounds lackluster.

UNSTOPPABLE may be a good one. I try to stay away from anything based on a true story -- they always end badly somehow. Life is like that when you try to play hero.

Thanks for dropping by my blog and commenting on my Halloween reflections. Roland

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Kitty, I was disappointed with the last Harry Potter as well. The third and fourth were really good, little less on the fifth and much less on the sixth.

Ella, I know, seems every force has kept me from seeing Red.

Hey Roland! I saw Monsters Wednesday night - stunning character movie. Just amazing, and all for half a million dollars.

Laura Eno said...

Skyline looks awesome!

Walter Knight said...

Skyline and Monsters are the ones that everyone is pirating . . . oops I didn't say that.

N. R. Williams said...

The only one I'll see on the list is Harry Potter. But then, money is tight.

CANNOT wait for Skyline! i squeed when i saw that extended preview a few weeks ago. It looks like the Mist, War of the Worlds and ID4 all wrapped up in one.

And holy cow i'm excited for HP. I think it's less of a money thing (though i'm sure that helps) and more of a plotting thing. There's so much that needs to happen that it would just suck if they had to cut it down to fit in under 3 hours

Ellie Garratt said...

I've just watched the trailer for Skyline and wow, I'm so going to treat myself to that film on my nano day-off. Awesome.

Melissa Gill said...

Those all look great. Of course Harry Potter is number 1 on my list, but I'll probably see all of them.

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Piedmont, you have a dilemma!

Falen, I buy Harry Potter in two parts - not buying Breaking Dawn in two parts.

Ellie, doesn't it look amazing? All on a very, very limited budget.

Talli Roland said...

Dare I admit I've not seen any Harry Potter? :) I know, I know... I just haven't, for some reason!

Hope you're having a great weekend!

Jai Joshi said...

I can't wait to see Megamind. It looks hilarious! (Even though I'm not a Will Farell fan because he normally gets on my nerves.)

Gotta see Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. I'm actually glad they turned it into two parts. Thats what they should have done with a couple of the other films too because they would have told the story much better. It's a shame really but on the other hand, in twenty years they'll make another adaptation series and that'll probably be much better.

Jai

Unknown said...

Ooh, there's a lot of movies coming out. Harry Potter's up the top as well as Skyline and Tangled.

BryStearns said...

Due Date looks positively hilarious! Zack Galifanakis is bloody brilliant, and pair him with Robert Downey Jr, pure brilliance. And need I even mention Skyline? We all know how superbly awesome it is going to be.

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Talli, that's okay - I haven't read the books, so there!

Jai, somehow I don't doubt that someone will remake all of the books in the very near future.

Bryan, Skyline should rock!

Jules said...

Unstoppable for sure, never was a Potter fan, fell asleep in the 1st one.

I love these, trailers sometimes are the whole movie ;D

Hi, Alex. A glitch in blogger forced me to delete my old blog. I imported everything except followers, which evidently you can't do.

So, I'm here to re-follow you so you'll show up on my dashboard (I'm also having trouble tonight getting the Followers button on my site! What a day...)

Don't want to lose touch with what's going on with your book/blog tour, and life!

They all look very good. I hear nice things about Unstoppable.

Powdered Toast Man said...

Due date looks pretty funny. Zack is pretty amusing and Downey is awesome already.

I'd see Unstoppable. I saw the full trailer tonight at the movies. Looks pretty cool.

Megamind will either be funny or a suck fest.

Tracie Nall said...

I am allowing myself to get excited about Tangeld.

MegaMind. I'm still not sure about...but my 7 year old is very sure about it, so I have this feeling I will find out for myself it's sucks to not sucks ratio.

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Ann, I'll make sure I'm still following you.

PTM, you're right about Megamind.

Tracie, I'll be watching reviews on that one.

Budd said...

skyline has my interest.

DiscConnected said...

Skyline looks interesting.

It's hard for me to buy into the premise of "Unstoppable."

It's Amtrak-they'll crash into another train long before they get to a populated area.

I'm skeptical of "Due Date" mainly because I did not think "Hangover" was as funny as the hype.

And I figure Faster will be on NetFlix On Demand by year-end.

You guys already have tickets for Harry Potter? What's wrong with me? What kind of Bad Daddy am I?

Gotta Go!

[Oh, but: Great list, your sentiments are dead on. I find it more satisfying to wait for Will Ferrel stuff to appear in the mailbox or Netflix streaming, too. His George W. movie was a hoot, though, but let's not muck all this nice talk with politics.]

The Man-Cave said...

I'm looking forward to Due Date because the Zach G. - RDJ connection looks like a good one. Just hope the trailers are misleading and will disappoint me.

I saw the sneak peek of Megamind a couple of weeks ago. It was pretty good! Other than that, HARRY POTTER!!
