Variety

Continuing the A-Z Challenge from Arlee at Tossing it Out

Today is V – Variety

When it comes to my life, I like stability - but as far as my entertainment and interests, I like variety! So I found some interesting tidbits for everyone -

Prinkipria is looking for book reviewers! In return for providing them with one honest review each month (of any new book fantasy, sci-fi, horror or related) they are willing to offer that person:
· A direct link to that person's blog or website that would appear at the end of each review
· A thumbnail photo
· A one-paragraph bio
· Free listing on the teleporter" page
· 50% off any available advertising slot
Prinkipria is a great new site, so check it out!

On May 20, I will have the honor of hosting science fiction author, David J. Williams, here on my blog. He has agreed to answer some questions for an interview and I will post it just prior to the release of Machinery of Light, the third book in the Autumn Rain series.

Arlee at Tossing it Out gave out an award to all of us participating in the A-Z Challenge – thanks!

Remember my review of How to Train Your Dragon several weeks ago? This is the little movie who could – it’s #1 at the box office again, quietly beating out all new releases, and now sits at $178 million in the USA, and $354,521,000 world-wide.

In case you missed it, Avatar came out last Thursday on DVD - and surpassed The Dark Knight as the fastest-selling Bluray DVD, selling more than 4 million total DVDs in its first day. (Its grand total at the world-wide box office is $2,717,023,267.)

You knew this was bound to happen! In the Tech World, Porn Leads the Way - an article about the porn industry capitalizing on the new iPad.
(Certainly not on MY iPad, though! And yes, I still love my new iPad.)

Fritz Lang’s 1927 classic, Metropolis, will be re-released with lost footage in theaters in May and on DVD later this year – visit JoBlo’s website for details.

And I finally got to see a semi-final draft of my cover art last week and posted it here - CassaStar

Any other interesting tips, news, or items you'd like to add? The more the merrier - and the greater the variety.

I heard there's two more versions of Avatar on the way - a special edition this fall and the 3D version next year.

That's cool about Metropolis. I'm one of those weirdos who actually liked the colorized 1984 version. I really liked the soundtrack.

I actually met someone yesterday who hasn't seen Avatar yet.

Yvonne, I do indeed have an X post!

Will - no! Really?

I can't remember the movies, but I heard over the weekend that there were 3 movies in production who were now going to shift gears and come out in 3D. 3D seems to be THE coming thing for movies.

Long live the Dragon!

And you just gave us the first practical reason to buy an iPad :PP

God, I can't believe I missed your cover post! It's beautiful, and definitely the type of sci-fi cover I would pick up. I love the text effect on your name, too!

I still want to go see How to Train Your Dragon. Maybe this weekend...

and iPad porn? But of course.

Thanks for the idea about the reviews. That's a good way to write a review, get it published and get one's blog seen.

Helen, there are so many 3D movies coming out, I've lost track.

Dez, you're just evil!

Thank you so much, Summer! I'm really stoked about the cover.

Hey! I missed your cover art last week. It's sweet, love it. Congrats!

I've been meaning to get the kids to How to Train Your Dragon. I want to see it as much as they do.

B. WHITTINGTON said...

All I know about HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON, I learned through my four smallest grandchildren. They can't wait to see the movie, I'm assuming it's for children too! And they have every type dragon possible from the happy meals boxes when we took them for lunches at McD's.

I'm going to check out that cover.
Congrats on the new book!

Hi Alex, I see your comments everywhere so I stopped by your blog to become a follower.

I will now be back often.

I'll have to check out Prinkipria. Have you done any review there yet?

It's so cool the Metropolis is going to be re-released. I remember watching it and discussing it in college.

oooh, looking forward to the guest.
also that book reviewer spot seems awesome, but lordy, i can barely keep up with my TBR pile

I haven't seen Avatar yet *bows head in shame* and I haven't seen How to Train Your Dragon either. I am so behind! Congrats on the cover of your book - it looks fantastic! I can't imagine how excited you are. I've heard from other writers that once they see the cover of their book, they start to feel like it's real. Can't wait to get there someday!

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

You too, Miller!

Tara and B. Whittington - go see the movie. You will love it. And thanks.

Thanks, Matthew!

Southpaw, I haven't yet, but I think I will.

Thanks, Kierah - and you will!

My daughter went to see Avatar in Imax 3D and couldn't stop talking about how great it was. As for me...ever the book geek...I chose to go and see Sherlock Holmes...and would again and again, by the way.

Thanks for the link to the website for reviews. I'll check it out.

Saw the dragon movie with my boys and liked it a lot more than I thought I would. It had so much heart and a great story.

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Raquel, Sherlock Holmes was good, too.

Cheeseboy, that's exactly what I said in my review. That movie really caught me by surprise with its heart.

Beth Zimmerman said...

I want an IPad! (Not for the porn!) I want to see Dragon and Avatar too. Bet I get those wishes before the IPad!

Well, for me, the highlight of this post was seeing your cover. I was gone when it came out, I guess. Gotta tell ya', it's way, way cool. Something to be proud of. Covers DO make a difference.

I haven't seen Avatar either... planning on seeing How to Train Your Dragon at some point though. I'm torn because I think it is one better seen on the big screen but don't know if I want to spend an adults night out on watching it (the 4-year-old has decided it looks too scary) :)

glad to see your book will be released this fall, How long is that in the making, I always wanted to write children's books but I can't draw and I have no idea how to get my books looked at , such an unknown film. hope to still see you after the a-z challenge is over.

Hannah said...

I would love to do the book review thing but alas, I have to finish my WIP by June...we'll see what happens after that.

Lola Sharp said...

I know I commented on this last week, BUT, CONGRATS again on your book cover, Alex! It looks fantastic.

Also, we loved the dragon movie...and it is the movie that could.

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Beth, I hope all three happen.

Thanks, Galen!

Melody, it IS worth it, and it is better on the big screen. Promise you won't be the only adult in the theater by a long shot!

Whisper, I conceived of the idea years ago and it took me about a year once I began writing.

Thanks, Lola. And yes, the movie is great!

I'm so glad Avatar is out on DVD - none of my family would go with me. I can't see 3D anyway, so it won't matter if it's on the small screen :)

I still have not seen Avatar, but I will. I bought it the other day at Walmart. I don't have a blue ray player yet but I bought Avatar in Blue-ray version. The choice was regular DVD for 15.99 or Blue Ray with Add'tl DVD Disc for 19.99. What kind of choice is that?

We picked up the same V word, and our posts are so very different, and yet each so true to the word.
The beauty of the A to Z challenge is the way it has got so many such diverse people together.
