Oscars and Guest Blogger Tomorrow

Please stop by tomorrow when author & editor Marvin Wilson at The Old Silly offers expert writing advice!

And I am making my first guest appearance tomorrow at Southern City Mysteries

I've also begun keeping track of Avatar's world wide grosses - check the sidebar every day for the new total. Feel free to participate in the poll as well. How much money will it make?

Oscar nominations were announced on Tuesday.

Avatar and The Hurt Locker both received nine nominations.

Inglorious Basterds received eight - thought that was a hoot!

And Star Trek and District Nine each received four.

Not sure how I feel about Up being nominated for both Best Animated and Best Picture...

Anyone care to place bets now...?

Am i out of the loop to not know what The Hurt Locker is?

I've had it in my NetFlix que for a month now! It's Katheryn Bigelow's movie about a bomb difusing squad - or something to that effect. I like her as a director and heard it's really good. Hopefully I'll get to see it before Oscar night.

Gosh, Alex, you've made the Big Time having Marvin as a guest. I'm impressed. Next thing you know, James Cameron will be here. Good job.

Best Wishes Galen.

Dang, you get James Cameron, let me know!
Will check out both posts tomorrow.
Pulling for Avatar at the Oscars! Also The Blind Side.

Thanks, Galen!
And I will let everyone know if I snag a Cameron interview.

Looking forward to seeing you over at the house of Michele :)
I find the Oscar nominations deadly boring this year. And I think the idea to put ten movies in the run for the main award proved bad, since a bunch of mediocre movies got into the list now.

I liked UP, but it clearly isn't a good enough movie for the main category ....

Ten was overkill, Dez. Don't think District 9 would've made it any other way.
And hopefully no one throws stones, but I really wasn't crazy about UP. All of the other Pixar films have been so great, too. UP just felt odd and depressing.

Out of the movies you've mentioned, I've only seen Star Trek. Loved it! So I vote it wins whatever it gets nominated for :)

I'm thinking "Avatar" is going to wipe out the competition!

And I STILL haven't seen it! Although my hubby and son have. Think it's too intense for me to take my 8 yr old daughter to?

I have a pitiful record for guessing Oscar winners. I think my tastes do not match with those who actually vote.

I'm sure that whatever wins will be because of the campaigning going on and will have nothing to do with quality what-so-ever but it will still be fun to watch.

Cassandra, at least there's some interesting movies nominated this year!

Helen, it's rare my tastes match either.

And Elizabeth, it depends on the maturity of your eight year old. There is one heck of a battle scene at the end and images of the forest creatures on fire might bother her. But you DO need to go see it!

What's amazing about Avatar's success is that its self-replicating. The more we hear about how successful it is, the more people go to see it. My wife only went to Avatar for me, but loved it. She told her brother and sister, who also never intended to see it and they loved it and told others. They told two friends...and they told two friends...and so on...and so on...
