What to Watch

Binged-watched your favorite show already? Here are some other shows to watch.

Outer Range

From the IMDB: A rancher fighting for his land and family, who discovers an unfathomable mystery at the edge of Wyoming's wilderness.
Airing on Prime, it stars Josh Brolin. It’s a science fiction, supernatural, western drama that almost defies description.
Everything seems off, but in the best and most intriguing way possible. It creates a compelling and engaging show that makes you wonder what just happened even as you crave the next episode.
Recommended.

Resident Alien

Starring Alan Tudyk, Sara Tomko, and Corey Reynolds, this one is in its second season.
This is a drama-comedy-science fiction mash up with Tudyk as the alien in a human body, trying to blend while scheming plans. Tudyk is deadpan hilarious of course, but so is Reynolds, who plays the town sheriff.
If you haven’t caught this one yet, watch the first season and then dive into the second, which will wrap up soon.
Highly recommended!

Moon Knight

From the IMDB: Steven Grant discovers he's been granted the powers of an Egyptian moon god. But he soon finds out that these newfound powers can be both a blessing and a curse to his troubled life.
Oscar Isaac (Po in the latest Star Wars films) is Marc/Steven, both the Moon Knight, powers granted to them as avatars by Khonshu. He does a great job in the dual roles. (Possibly more?)
Ethan Hawke is good as the ‘villain’ and more complex than your average villain.
It’s quirky and fun. The Egyptian mythology adds an interesting element to it. But this is not your normal Marvel superhero series.
Recommended and don’t forget your brain.

Raised by Wolves

From the IMDB: Androids are tasked with raising human children on a mysterious planet.
Produced by Ridley Scott and in its second season. After his latest “Alien” type films, that should warn you it’s going to be weird and unsettling.
This show is bat-crap crazy and not always in a good way. But don’t let it put you off that it often makes no sense whatsoever.
Recommended if you are up for the weird.

Tokyo Vice

From the IMDB: A Western journalist working for a publication in Tokyo takes on one of the city's most powerful crime bosses.
Staring Ansel Elgort and Ken Watanabe, the Michael Mann style is understated. The gritty and realistic characters are very compelling and you root for them.
Something cool about the Japan setting and the crime element adds great noir.
Recommended.

Star One: Revel in Time

The latest from Star One (and Ayrean Lucasson) features songs about time travel/loop movies. It’s fun to guess the movie from the lyrics. Last week I teased you with this song:

Oh newly arrived back in old 55
You're not even alive yet
But what have you done... mother and son
You're fading away, yeah

And when the lightning strikes
You have to be precise
Exactly ten-o-four
And not a second before

If you guessed Back to the Future, you are correct! (The song is called Back From the Past.)

Try another:

Knowing no fear, feeling no pain
No grief, no compassion, no guilt and no shame
Built to attack, hе will be back
The fate of man liеs in his hands

Born in the ruins, a smoldering wasteland
Out of the ashes, a man will arise!
A hero at heart, a powerful soldier
Has come across time for the love of his life

This one will challenge you – it is about a time loop but definitely not a science fiction film:

He lost his aim, each day the same
He's had enough of this boring game
It's the same old song, time drags on
(There is nothing he can do about it)

Round the clock, it never stops
He can end his life, do whatever he likes
But it's all in vain, he can't explain
(There is nothing he can do about it
No, there's nothing he can do about it)

Answers in two weeks!

Until then, enjoy the title song, Revel in Time – Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure.
And by the way, the skinny blonde guitarist is Lucasson – and he’s sixty-two years old!

Be sure to visit Deniz Bevan today.
See you May 4 for IWSG day!

Disappearing Blogrolls, Alien Movie Trivia, Lucy Movie Review and Movie News, and Contests and New Releases!

The Disappearing Blogroll

As many of you probably noticed, last week Blogger at my blogroll. All of the blogs I had listed vanished. I was going to clean it up, but really hadn’t planned on starting from scratch. Bummer.

I was gone this past weekend, hanging out with friends, so I didn’t get to work on it. No worries if your blog isn’t listed yet. I’m still working on it and it will take me the rest of this week to complete the task.

And yes, I do use Feedly to follow and visit blogs. But the blogroll works better when I’m using my iPad. Besides, I like featuring my blogger buddies in the side bar.

On another note, I finally have a domain name for my blog. Hey, only took me six years!

Movie News

Movie Review -Lucy

With Luc Besson directing, you know it will be quirky.
The movie was fun but rather forgettable. It’s also really short. It felt like there was a longer, more fleshed out movie in there somewhere.
Scarlett Johansson was good and the evolution of her character as she learned to use more of her brain interesting.
If you like a science fiction action flick, it’s worth a rental.

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is in production. Slated to come out January of 2017, you can read about the cast and more at JoBlo. Will it be the final chapter? Doubtful.

The Richest has an article, 12 Actors Who Hate The Role That Made Them Famous. Among them were a few former Star Wars actors – Alec Guiness thought Star Wars was poorly written and hated playing Obi-Wan; Jake Lloyd felt Lucas let down the fans and had angry fans criticizing both him and the movie; and Carrie Fisher didn’t like becoming a sex symbol and now has enough stalkers to last a lifetime.

September Movies and Centurion Review

A new month approaches and so does a slew of new movies...

September 3-

MACHETE
Director: Ethan Maniquis Robert Rodriguez
Stars: Danny Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez, Robert De Niro
The Plot: After being betrayed by the organization who hired him, an ex-Federale (Trejo) launches a brutal rampage of revenge against the people who double-crossed him.
This was one of the spoof trailers for Grindhouse – and now it’s an actual, honest-to-God movie! Cheesy, over-the-top fun – I am so there!

THE AMERICAN
Director: Anton Corbijn
Stars: George Clooney, Paolo Bonacelli, Violante Placido
The Plot: An assassin hiding out in an Italian village while he anticipates his last-ever assignment tempts fate by seeking out the friendship of a priest (Bonacelli) as well as the affection of a local woman (Placido).
I’ll either do a double feature or catch this one on NetFlix.

September 10-

RESIDENT EVIL: AFTERLIFE
Director: Paul W.S. Anderson
Stars: Milla Jovovich, Ali Larter, Wentworth Miller
The Plot: As the T-Virus continues to spread, Alice (Jovovich) maintains her mission to find survivors and keep them safe from the Undead, and to take down the Umbrella Corporation. Reteaming with Claire (Larter), Alice makes a dangerous journey to a new city that is said to be a safe haven: Los Angeles.
I doubt I’ll venture to the theater for this one, even though it's 3S, but will definitely watch on NetFlix.

September 17-

ALPHA AND OMEGA
Director: Anthony Bell Ben Gluck
Stars: Hayden Panettiere, Christina Ricci, Justin Long
The Plot: After being relocated to Idaho by park rangers, a female and a male wolf face a dangerous trip across unfamiliar territory in their attempt to find their way home to Canada.
Another computer animated flick – which doens't guarantee quality, so not sure about this one yet.

September 24-

LEGEND OF THE GUARDIANS
Director: Zack Snyder
Stars: Jim Sturgess, Hugo Weaving, David Wenham
The Plot: Soren is a young Barn Owl who lives in the peaceful forest of Tyto. Kidnapped and brought to the foreboding St. Aegolius Academy for Orphaned Owls, Soren must face certain challenges -- including taking his first-ever flight -- on a dangerous adventure that leads to the mythical Great Ga'Hoole Tree, where he and his friends Gylfie, Twilight, and Digge look to fight a great evil in their world.
The animation looks incredible! HOLLYWOOD SPY has posted numerous trailers, so check it out.

???-

SUCK
Director: Rob Stefaniuk
Not sure when this one will hit theaters or DVD – it’s hit most of the independent film festivals. But it stars Malcolm McDowell, Dave Foley, Henry Rollins, Iggy Pop, Alice Cooper, Moby, AND Alex Lifeson of Rush!! According to the IMDB, it’s “A comedy centered on a rock 'n' roll band that will do anything to become famous.” The previews bring to mind the likes of The Lost Boys and Fright Night – just good vampire fun. REVIEW – CENTURION

Directed by Neil Marshall, starring Michael Fassbender
I was fortunate that this was a free view on HDNet last Wednesday night, so I got to see it two days before its USA release.
Centurion is exactly what I expected. It’s not a grand epic nor does it break any new ground. However, it does contain some amazing scenery and cinematography, very bloody battles, and an interesting storyline. The story follows Centurion Quintus Dias (played by Fassbender) – his brigade is slaughtered by the Picts, and he escapes capture and joins with General Titus Flavius Virilus (played by the always cool Dominic West) and the 9Th legion. When the general’s troops are ambushed, Dias must lead the seven survivors back home.
The Scottish landscape is incredible! It’s as much a character in the story as are the actors. Everything feels very realistic – the Picts are not supernatural, just people defending their land. And in the middle of bloody war was an aspect I was not expecting… Can’t tell you or I’d spoil the movie!
If you’re into medieval battles and suspense, this movie is for you! Again, nothing that will knock your socks off, but it’s an enjoyable movie.

Enjoy your popcorn!
