Hatfields and McCoys
This was the highest rated regular cable show ever (outside of sporting events) and safe to say the History Channel is on to something. Good director and top-notch actors really made the difference. Sad how such bitterness led to so much bloodshed. One of the best mini-series I’ve ever seen.
The Woman in Black
Effectively creepy ghost story – and no one does anything incredibly STUPID. (Although I wouldn’t stay overnight in that house for anything!) While not really original, it has some genuine chills and tense moments. Refreshing to see Radcliffe in a different role. Throw it in your NetFlix queue – worth a watch!

I've never done any of the monthly novel challenges - looks like an excellent opportunity for you to knock out your next in the series. As for the movies, since I generally avoid violent/bloody/scary, I suppose I'll be seeing Madagascar :-)

I had no idea BuMoWriMo existed until I read this post. Damn. Looks like I have another word count I'm going to get addicted to (and ultimately fail at). Still, since I'm in the middle of a novel, it couldn't have come at a better time. It'll either be the kick I need or the remorse I need. Good luck!

I can't believe Prometheus is almost here. Definitely my most anticipated for the month, closely followed by Brave. I'll probably read Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter sometime before the movie arrives. Good luck cranking out 50,000 words this month; I achieved a similar feat back in February and plan on doing so again for NaNoWriMo later this year.

There are way too many movies coming out that I actually want to see and that rarely happens for me! Brave looks awesome. My kids love Madagascar (so do I). But we usually wait for Red Box b/c the movies are like 40 minutes away and life gets too busy!

Snow White would be a shoo in for me IF the leading role was't played by this particular actress. I suppose I need to just suck it up and give her another chance...besides, Thor looks as if he can hold his own in this one too!
As for Brave and Lincoln, yep, I'll be seeing them! Wow. That's a lot of popcorn! I should probably start working some overtime just to afford it!

Lots of good movies coming out. I read Abraham Lincoln Vampire Slayer and thought it was pretty dry, but I suspect that it's more visual than anything else and it will work much better as a film. I watched One For The Money last night and didn't like it very much. The book is much funnier. Have a good weekend and good luck with BuNoWriMo! :)

ReplyDeleteAs for ROCK OF AGES, I saw the stage musical. I was really surprised. It was an awesome time. Melted my face off.
I have Hatfield & McCoys queued up on the DVR to watch, maybe this weekend. And the movie I'm most looking forward to is Prometheus.

Funny fact, I'm related to the Hatfields by marriage. My grandfather is a Hatfield. Old Granny Hatfield was the meanest lady I ever met. She scared me as a child. She was tiny and frail, but frightening.

ReplyDeleteI heard Tom Cruise does a great job in Rock of Ages. As flaky as he can seem, he is a damn good actor and he picks good movies.
ReplyDeleteI'm excited to see Prometheus, but cautious, too. As talented as Scott is at the Helm, he's directing based off Damon Lindeloff's script, and I am not a Lindeloff fan. One review I read from overseas said what I have suspected might happen: the movie raises many intriguing questions, but them either fails to answer them or provides lackluster answers for the questions it does address. That's exactly what he did with LOST, in my opinion.
I'm going to take my kids to see Brave when it comes out. Pixar knows how to tell a good story!

I knew that it was going to be on and I wanted to see it. Now I shall have to try and catch it someplace else.

What the heck is BuMoWriMo? I'm recording the Hatfields & McCoys so I'll watch it once part 1 is repeated tonight. I'll watch just about anything with Kevin Costner. None of those movies do anything for me though I do know all those songs from RoA. Cruise seems miscast for that part but Alec Baldwin looks interesting. Good luck on CassaStorm! I missed Hatfields and McCoys because I didn't realize it was a TV movie and didn't find out til yesterday. Hopefully they'll show it a few more times as it does sound good. I see where they're showing it on Saturday, but that's not good. I'll keep my eyes open.

ReplyDeleteHatfields & McCoys was excellent. I just finished it earlier today, and I couldn't have been more impressed with the way History handled it. Glad to see there was a ratings payoff for such excellent production; here's hoping other networks follow suit.

I am so looking forward to Prometheus. I have been dying for Scott to return this world ever since Fincher's horrific Alien 3. I just finished Abe Vamp Hunter. What an awesome story and now I cannot wait for the film. And though I can't stand K Stew, I'm seeing Snow White. It looks awesome.

Some good choices in the movie mix. I am looking forward to seeing Snow White and Prometheus. The Vampire Hunter sounds like something I would like to see too!I do feel sorry for you having to watch Madagascar, I am so glad my children are in their late teens!

I've decided to throw my hat in the ring for BuNoWriMo! My space opera has been sitting for a while, and needs attention. Just went back and read the first four chapters and realized how much I liked my characters.

Snow White looks beautiful, but my expectations aren't high for numerous reasons.
Loved the first Piranha, but I doubt this one will be as good, since Aja is not involved.

I recorded all 6 hours of the H&M mini-series. My wife is into Costner and we will surely do a marathon of this one. Looks really good. I am ready for the Snow White and the Huntsman movie, saw the trailer the last time I was in the theatre. I also want to see Prometheus (same trailer viewing) and I am really looking forward to the Lincoln Vampire Hunter.
ReplyDeleteDespite some of the criticism, I enjoyed Snow White and the Huntsma. I liked Kristen Stewart in this, and Hemsworth is definitely a rising star.

ReplyDeleteI keep getting stinky looks when I suggest that Brave might just end up being the best movie this summer. I know, I know--stiff competition already! (Avengers) And it's just getting stiffer with Dark Knight around the corner. Just get a really good vibe from Brave.

Just saw Rock of Ages on stage. Having a tough time picturing Tom C. in the role.
ReplyDeleteThinking I may as well BuMo, took a weird, crazy, cruel challenge over the weekend to write 30,000 words by 8pm Sunday. Did it. Still shaking. Think 20k in the rest of the month doesn't seem so daunting now.
ReplyDeleteThere are some unusual movies out and about, I can't even look at the poster of the snow white one because we have a spider in Australia named Hun... ugh can't even say it! Horrid things. And the Piranha one... well... But of course I'll see the Ridley Scott movie and Brave looks awesome (go the rangas) and Abraham LIncoln might be interesting. I'd give it a go.
