Ninja News, BuMoWriMo, Movie Reviews, and Epic June Movie Releases!

Ninja News!

Thanks to everyone who left encouraging comments Wednesday for my online mom, Yvonne Lewis. And just to clarify, the man in the photo with her was Danny, not ME!

Cate Masters just released a new book, Orion Rising. Congratulations, Cate!

Helen Ginger at Straight From Hel announced a contest for unpublished science fiction and fantasy writers – Writer’s Toybox and Netherworld Books are looking for the next best selling author. Check it out!

It's June First, which means the next posting of the Insecure Writer’s Support Group is next Wednesday. Mark your calendars.

I’m participating in BuNoWriMo in June. (Thanks Hart for making me an unofficial member due to my lack of a Facebook account.) I have my badge ready and plan to knock out most of CassaStorm this month.

Hatfields and McCoys
This was the highest rated regular cable show ever (outside of sporting events) and safe to say the History Channel is on to something. Good director and top-notch actors really made the difference. Sad how such bitterness led to so much bloodshed. One of the best mini-series I’ve ever seen.

The Woman in Black
Effectively creepy ghost story – and no one does anything incredibly STUPID. (Although I wouldn’t stay overnight in that house for anything!) While not really original, it has some genuine chills and tense moments. Refreshing to see Radcliffe in a different role. Throw it in your NetFlix queue – worth a watch!

June Movies!

As always, descriptions courtesy of the IMDB. Snarky comments by me.

1 –

Snow White and the Huntsman
In a twist to the fairy tale, the Huntsman ordered to take Snow White into the woods to be killed winds up becoming her protector and mentor in a quest to vanquish the Evil Queen.
Director: Rupert Sanders
Stars: Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth, Charlize Theron, Sam Claflin
This one looks wicked cool. Hemsworth is becoming a star.

Piranha 3DD
After the events at Lake Victoria, the pre-historic school of blood-thirsty piranhas make their way into a newly opened waterpark.
Director: John Gulager
Stars: Danielle Panabaker, Ving Rhames, David Hasselhoff, Matt Bush
No, I have no desire to see this in the theater, but I just HAD to mention it since Piranha 3D was one of the goriest films I’ve ever watched. (And I have watched some gorefests.)

8 -

Prometheus
A team of explorers discover a clue to the origins of mankind on Earth, leading them on a journey to the darkest corners of the universe. There, they must fight a terrifying battle to save the future of the human race.
Director: Ridley Scott
Stars: Noomi Rapace, Logan Marshall-Green, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron
Ridley Scott is due for another epic masterpiece and this could be it! The child of Alien and Aliens on steroids…

Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted
Alex, Marty, Gloria and Melman are still fighting to get home to their beloved Big Apple. Their journey takes them through Europe where they find the perfect cover: a traveling circus, which they reinvent - Madagascar style.
Directors: Eric Darnell | Tom McGrath | Conrad Vernon
Stars: Ben Stiller, Jada Pinkett Smith, Chris Rock, David Schwimmer
I was informed by my wife that we ARE seeing this movie when it comes out, so this will be a double feature weekend for me. Sigh. Help me!

15 -

Rock of Ages
Set in 1987 Los Angeles, Drew and Sherrie are two young people chasing their dreams in the big city. When they meet, it's love at first sight, though their romance will face a series of challenges.
Director: Adam Shankman
Stars: Julianne Hough, Diego Boneta, Tom Cruise, Alec Baldwin
Despite the title, they didn’t have permission to use Def Leppard’s Rock of Ages until this movie. Hey, I know all the music – why not?

22 -

Brave
Determined to make her own path in life, Princess Merida defies a custom that brings chaos to her kingdom. Granted one wish, Merida must rely on her bravery and her archery skills to undo a beastly curse.
Directors: Mark Andrews | Brenda Chapman | Steve Purcell
Stars: Kelly Macdonald, Billy Connolly, Emma Thompson, Julie Walters
Pixar is also due for a comeback film and this looks amazing. The voices alone sell it for me.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter
Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States, discovers vampires are planning to take over the United States. He makes it his mission to eliminate them.
Director: Timur Bekmambetov
Stars: Benjamin Walker, Rufus Sewell, Dominic Cooper, Mary Elizabeth Winstead
I’m reading the book right now. This will be one weird and twisted movie!

Anyone else doing BuMoWriMo? Or Camp NaNo? Think you might enter that contest? Did you watch Hatfield and McCoys? Any movies strike your fancy for June?

  1. There is so much to deal with here I have to do it in several posts you rascal!

  2. Don't know what BuNoWriMo is but I wish you the best in reaching your goal.

    Cheers and boogie boogie.

  3. Ha ha ha I did it! First comment! First off...Everyone wants to know what you look like, you probably look like Minnies twin...Ha ha ha...Next, good luck with the writers burrow. Did it last year and the gang is really great, but what no Facebook? You are doomed...

  4. Going to check out that contest so thanks! Definitely checking out that mini series! Seen the ghost movie lady in black...not impressed. Can't wait to hear Tom Cruise sing and love anything alien, but you know that!

    ReplyDelete
  5. Good luck with BuNo!

ARGH, I watched the Woman In Black with my mum at the weekend, and we screamed a lot LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  6. Going to check the contest, Excellent film review.

    Your online Mom Yvonne.

  7. I've never done any of the monthly novel challenges - looks like an excellent opportunity for you to knock out your next in the series. As for the movies, since I generally avoid violent/bloody/scary, I suppose I'll be seeing Madagascar :-)

    ReplyDelete
  8. Siv, sorry the rascal overwhelmed you! Yes I do know you like the alien stuff. And safe to say I don't look like Minnie, either.

Whisk, it's like NaNoWriMo (writing 50,000 words in November) except in June.

Kyra, my wife jumped through the whole movie.

Lisa, wish I could send my wife with you!

  9. I had no idea BuMoWriMo existed until I read this post. Damn. Looks like I have another word count I'm going to get addicted to (and ultimately fail at). Still, since I'm in the middle of a novel, it couldn't have come at a better time. It'll either be the kick I need or the remorse I need. Good luck!

Great snarky titles as well. I'm thinking I should probably take a look at the Abe Lincoln book, since it seems up my dark and twisted alley.

  10. Great movie lineup. I loved reading Abraham Lincoln:Vampire Hunter. I hope the movie doesn't ruin it.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Chris Hemsworth is certainly getting about a bit. I expect to see him as a cop with an attitude anytime now (that's usually the next move). And his brother's in Hunger Games.

Will be curious to see if Huntsman does better than Mirror Mirror, which flopped pretty badly.

  12. I'm actually tempted by Abraham Lincolm Vampire Hunter.

    Good luck with BuMoWriMo!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Watched the Hatfields & McCoys. Was it just me? I couldn't hear some of the dialog. Depressing, but I had to keep reminding myself that this stuff really happened. Have a great weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Wow! You have big writing plans. Please tell me how to write as fast as you.

I can't wait to see Snow White and the Huntsman.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I can't believe Prometheus is almost here. Definitely my most anticipated for the month, closely followed by Brave. I'll probably read Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter sometime before the movie arrives. Good luck cranking out 50,000 words this month; I achieved a similar feat back in February and plan on doing so again for NaNoWriMo later this year.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I've been wavering on the edge of trying the June 30k challenge but my wip could really use the dedication. Maybe I'll just do my best as a non official member:) And it looks like some interesting releases this month!

    ReplyDelete
  17. June is an absolutely chaotic month for me - so nope. :)

Can't wait to see that Snow White version - looks fun! :)

    ReplyDelete
  18. Wow June looks like a great movie month! Snow White looks awesome and I can't complain about seeing Hemsworth again! :)

    Good luck in BuNoWriMo!

    ReplyDelete
  19. There are way too many movies coming out that I actually want to see and that rarely happens for me! Brave looks awesome. My kids love Madagascar (so do I). But we usually wait for Red Box b/c the movies are like 40 minutes away and life gets too busy!

    ReplyDelete
  20. M, it comes at a great time for me as well!

Brinda, I'm really enjoying the book so far.

Moody, it did really flop. Will post my review of Huntsman on Monday.

Em, just had to crank the volume. Yeah, sad it was based on true events.

Natalie, you really don't want to write that slow!

Michael, I did it one year for NaNo, so I'm hopeful.

    ReplyDelete
  21. So many great movies coming up! Can't wait!

I'm participating of JuNoWriMo this month ;)
    Good luck with CassaStorm!

    ReplyDelete
  22. There are a ton of good looking movies coming out! I finally saw The Avengers and here I thought I was caught up! HA!!!

Still want to see Woman in Black. Still scared to do so. Yes. I'm a weenie.

Snow White would be a shoo in for me IF the leading role was't played by this particular actress. I suppose I need to just suck it up and give her another chance...besides, Thor looks as if he can hold his own in this one too!

As for Brave and Lincoln, yep, I'll be seeing them! Wow. That's a lot of popcorn! I should probably start working some overtime just to afford it!

    Happy weekend,
    Jen

    ReplyDelete
  23. Lots of good movies coming out. I read Abraham Lincoln Vampire Slayer and thought it was pretty dry, but I suspect that it's more visual than anything else and it will work much better as a film. I watched One For The Money last night and didn't like it very much. The book is much funnier. Have a good weekend and good luck with BuNoWriMo! :)

    ReplyDelete
  24. I'm forcing myself to not join any more contests until I finish my revisions.. we'll see how that goes!

My kids are jazzed about seeing Madagascar III. They are obsessed with those movies. Sorry you have to suffer through it, sans kids! LOL

    Good luck with CassaStorm!

    ReplyDelete
  25. I'm sooo looking forward to Prometheus and Brave. They should be brilliant.

Good luck with your June writing. I know you'll do another brilliant job! I'm stuck in the middle of line-edits so I won't be writing anything new for a while.

    ReplyDelete
  26. now i love the idea of "rock of ages", the film previews makes it look like utter crap... i am going to pass...a lot.

i wasn't able to catch Hatfield and McCoys... i got an advance of the score... intrigues me... and for those who loved the trailer song it is; Bartholomew - The Silent Comedy

lincoln as a vampire hunter... sign me up.

    p3dd... wait for it...
    brave... looks great...

have a great weekend and thanks for the quick reviews on the films.

  27. Don't know which ones I will see, but I definitely won't see Piranha 3DD.

    Happy Weekend!

    ReplyDelete
  28. Good luck with CassaStorm.

As for ROCK OF AGES, I saw the stage musical. I was really surprised. It was an awesome time. Melted my face off.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I have Hatfield & McCoys queued up on the DVR to watch, maybe this weekend. And the movie I'm most looking forward to is Prometheus.

Lady in Black was a good movie, but too many of the scares were given away in the trailers.

    Have a nice weekend!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Hatfields and McCoys sounds good. Wish I had cable.

I'm also looking forward to Snow White and the Huntsman and Prometheus. :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. man, this month is crazy for the awesome movies! We're for sure seeing prometheus, but we'll probably have to wait on Snow White. I really hope we can hit both Brave and Lincoln though

    ReplyDelete
  32. I've seen the music list for Rock of Ages and hope I can survive the Poison songs.

I love the Madagascar movies. Not missing the third one.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Hi Alex .. I quite like the idea of Prometheus .. but I'd like to see the play version of Woman in Black ..

Good luck with all your writing etc .. cheers Hilary

    ReplyDelete
  34. I don't see many movies because I'm not a fan of public, but those movies look awesome. I might just venture out of the house.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Interesting movies. Saw Snow White and the Huntsman advertised at local theatre last night, thought it looked good.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Wow, lots of movies coming up. Come on, you owe it to your wife to see Madagascar 3. Right?

    Have a great movie night!

    Teresa

    ReplyDelete
  37. Hey can you provide cliff notes to me for Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. I'm suppose to read it for a book club next weekend and just can't find the time.
I'm sure I'll see Mad 3 with the kiddos. Good luck with that.
Funny fact, I'm related to the Hatfields by marriage. My grandfather is a Hatfield. Old Granny Hatfield was the meanest lady I ever met. She scared me as a child. She was tiny and frail, but frightening.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Looking forward to most of these movies.
It's June 1? How did that happen?
Thanks for the mention about Orion Rising!

    ReplyDelete
  39. I may yet sign up for BuMoWriMo and like you knock out that book. Lots of good movies except Piranha 3D. I need to do a movie marathon this upcoming week.

    ReplyDelete
  40. We're planning to see Brave . . .but we may have to watch it midweek - June is a crazy month for us, and so no BuNoWriMo for me, just continuing on my own 100 Days of Revision project.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Juliana, hope we both meet our goal!

Jen, just pretend she's someone else.

Jaybird, I'm sure there will be lots of kids in the theater though.

Lynda, hope I don't let anyone down with the next book.

Jeremy, cool you got to hear the music. You need to catch the mini series.

Joshua, ready for some face melting!

    Clarissa, venture out!

    Teresa, I'll take her!

    Ciara, that is wild!

    Cate, you're welcome.

    Stephen, do it!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I'm seeing Snow White this weekend! Excited!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Congrats on the start of your new book. :) I loved the Hatfield and McCoy movie. Hoping it comes on DVD soon. Doubtful any movies this weekend, I got to work. :/ If I did see a movie it would be Snow White

    ReplyDelete
  44. I heard Tom Cruise does a great job in Rock of Ages. As flaky as he can seem, he is a damn good actor and he picks good movies.

I'm excited to see Prometheus, but cautious, too. As talented as Scott is at the Helm, he's directing based off Damon Lindeloff's script, and I am not a Lindeloff fan. One review I read from overseas said what I have suspected might happen: the movie raises many intriguing questions, but them either fails to answer them or provides lackluster answers for the questions it does address. That's exactly what he did with LOST, in my opinion.

I'm going to take my kids to see Brave when it comes out. Pixar knows how to tell a good story!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Lots of good movies this month, I can't wait to check out Snow White. I might end up coning my husband to go tonight! The Woman in Black was super creepy, and no way would I go into that house either. Have a great weekend Alex! :)

    ReplyDelete
  46. Good luck with BurNoWriMo! Sounds like it's going to be epic! I can't wait to see Brave and Snow White and the Huntsman!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Good luck with your bunonanosumoninjafantastico writing challenge!! Yay for you!!

    Prometheus!!!! Can't wait!!

    Take care
    x

    ReplyDelete
  48. No BuMo or Camp for me. It stresses me out.
Snow White and Prometheus both look good. I've never seen any of the Madagascar movies. *don't tell your wife*

    ReplyDelete
  49. The ghost of Ernest Hemingway hates BuNoWriMo. He gruffs something about quantity over quality. The ghost of Mark Twain chortles the work will be filled with almost-right words ... and the difference between the right word and the almost-right word is the difference between LIGHTNING and the LIGHTNING BUG!

I make it a point not to argue with ghosts!

Anyone who thinks Kristin Stewart is more fair than Charlize Theron has to live in a fairy tale! But Chris is becoming a true star.

I hear great things from the continent about PROMETHEUS (Europe got to see it a week early). Like you, I have read Abe the vamp hunter, and I am looking forward to the movie. Have you seen the impressive 3rd movie trailer?

I have written a book. Sigh. Maybe I should join BuNoWriMo!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Aint now way I'm watching The Woman In Black! Excited about Snow White and Prometheus though. And a 3d gorefest sounds kinda fun. Good luck with CassaStorm :)

    ReplyDelete
  51. Good luck with BuMoWriMo! I wish I could participate in it or Camp NaNo this year, but it's just not working with my schedule.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I just started Hatfield's and McCoy's. I have a list of TV shows I'm watching right now and this is added to it, so I'm hoping to be able to watch more soon.

I want to see Snow White and The Huntsmen, though I just don't know what to think about the girl who played Bella being in it. She seems to have just one facial expression...

And I am going to watch The Woman in Black, hopefully in July with my best friend. It looks very creepy, but also like it will be worth watching. And if I need, I can hide beside my sister.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Al, I love the badge idea for CassaStorm! I'm really looking forward to charting your progress. I think it's an exciting way to move forward -- very cool!

    ReplyDelete
  54. I am so excited to see Snow White and the Huntsman (even if Kristen Stewart is in it), and Brave.

Good luck with BuMoWriMo! I'm too far behind in other things to participate in that or Camp NaNo. Better luck next year...

    ReplyDelete
  55. Julie, so am I!

Rick, I'm not letting my expectations get too high. And Cruise does make good movies even if he's a little crazy as a person.

Kitty, you always make me laugh!

Roland, join us! I managed to write the first draft of CassaFire during NaNo 2010 and it was definitely my best work. And yes, I've seen the trailer!

Miss Jack, the expression comment made me laugh.

Karen, it is really, really good!

    ReplyDelete
  56. Good luck with CassaStorm. It sounds like you will have a busy June. As you know, I'm excited for Prometheus (already have my midnight tickets purchased for the showing at the IMAX). I'm also going to watch Brave (I predict it will be the biggest hit for Pixar ever). I didn't watch the Hatfields and the McCoys and that's because it just skipped my mind. I knew that it was going to be on and I wanted to see it. Now I shall have to try and catch it someplace else.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Did you hear Guillermo del Toro said the plot of Prometheus ruined his plans to make At the Mountains of Madness?

That sucks, but I still want to see Prometheus!

    ReplyDelete
  58. What the heck is BuMoWriMo? I'm recording the Hatfields & McCoys so I'll watch it once part 1 is repeated tonight. I'll watch just about anything with Kevin Costner. None of those movies do anything for me though I do know all those songs from RoA. Cruise seems miscast for that part but Alec Baldwin looks interesting. Good luck on CassaStorm! I just started CassaStar & stayed up late reading it in bed, which I rarely do. That's a good sign. I like it! And I never read sci-fi. Have a great weekend!

    ReplyDelete
  59. Some fun looking movies coming out. I've heard Snow White is quite dark but very epic.

I wasn't the least bit interested in the Hatfield/McCoys tragedy. Revenge stories bore me stupid and I need all my brain cells.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Oh boy - who thinks of them? Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter LOL. Ah Chris Hemsworth...now THAT'll be worth seeing. I love your badge. I should do the same except I keep deleting everything, it'll go into negative numbers and probably wreck the whole system.

    ReplyDelete
  61. No wrimos of any sort for me. But definitely going to see Brave with the kiddos.

    ReplyDelete
  62. There's a few I want to see. I checked out that link and shared it- awesome competition. I might try for it.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I'm hoping to start my summer writing projects today.

    ReplyDelete
  64. always love your movie recs. I'm definitely going to see Snow White and the Huntsman, and you're right Chris Hemsworth is rocking Hollywood right now!

    Happy Weekend!

  65. I missed Hatfields and McCoys because I didn't realize it was a TV movie and didn't find out til yesterday. Hopefully they'll show it a few more times as it does sound good. I see where they're showing it on Saturday, but that's not good. I'll keep my eyes open.

I am interested in the Abe Lincoln movie. Sounds weird enough for my tastes. I wait for the DVD as usual.

  66. Michael enjoy your midnight showing! I couldn't possibly stay awake for one. (Sucks to get old.) Try and find Hatfield and McCoys somewhere - it was really, really good.

Matthew, it does! A real Lovecraft film would be awesome.

Nancy, thank you! That is good to hear. You'll enjoy Hatfield and McCoys. BuNo is like NaNo except in June.

Donna, it was all about revenge.

    Susan, that made me laugh!!

    Summer, do it!

Nutschell, I'm seeing it this afternoon.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I don't really have a comment. Uninspired.

But after yesterday, I may be feeling insecure enough to make a post next Wednesday. I guess we'll see.

    ReplyDelete
  68. RE: Hatfields and McCoys ... I guess we just loves them thar revenge stories.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I've been wondering how The Woman in Black is. I'll have to check it out.

You also list a few movies I'd like to see. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and Snow White and the Huntsman at the top of my list.

I'm not doing BuNoWriMo, but one day I will have to try one of these challenges.

    ReplyDelete
  70. I'm seriously thinking about BuNoWriMo - I guess I have to make my mind up soon, but I'm not feeling very organized - I don't have an outline or anything, just some notes pinned to the corkboard in Scrivener.

I can never participate in the movie comments. Our theater is about 1.25 hours away, and nothing seems to make me want to drive that far...

    Thanks Alex:)

    ReplyDelete
  71. Hi Alex! Keep me posted on BuNoWriMo. Cool. I'm doing JuNoWriMo. Hopefully I'll reach the 50K goal. I want to see Hat & McC now so bad. Thx. Have a great weekend!

    ReplyDelete
  72. I really want to see the Snow White and my kids really want to see Brave and Madagascar, which means I will have to use my mad negotiation skills and get them to see the one I want to see (Brave).

    ReplyDelete
  73. I'm not participating in the June NaNoWriMo. I'm too busy with revisions and gearing up to release my horror novel, Speed Demons, this summer! :-D

    ReplyDelete
  74. Can't wait to see Brave. My sympathies are with you regarding Madagascar; I and II were bad enough.
Just heard about The Woman In Black. It looked creepy but your post inspired me. I may rent it. Too watch in broad daylight of course.

    ReplyDelete
  75. Lee, record it - you don't want to miss it!

    Andrew, hope you are inspired.

Cherie, it's a lot of fun.

Gwen, that's a long drive. If you feel up to it, jump in to BuNo.

    Mina, we'll encourage each other.

    Tasha, you can do it!

Jenn, go for nighttime - get the full effect!

    ReplyDelete
  76. Going to see Snow White and the Huntsman tonight. The only other movie I may watch is Abraham Lincoln, VH, although I've not read the book. Thanks for sharing!

    ReplyDelete
  77. I guess we have to catch up with the Hatfields and McCoys. I thought it was going to be a movie.

Will see Brave and Madagascar 3.

I'm waiting to see if you like Prometheus. They haven't gotten one of these right since Alien and Aliens.

Keep writing! I'm going to be editing my butt off!

  78. Good grief, Alex. If someone doesn't get to your blog first thing in the morning, they can spend three days just trying to find the end of the comments list.

No WriMos for me. I'm doing re-writes so it's write a new scene here, cut an old one there. Not much increase in word count.

Brave is at the top of my 'see this' list. Not sure why, it just appeals to me.

    Good luck with CassaStorm.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Weird and twisted? I'm there! Bring on Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter! :) Good luck with BuNoWriMo!

    ReplyDelete
  80. Of all those I will probably only go to see Snow White, because it looks pretty cool. Good luck on writing CassaStorm!

    ReplyDelete
  81. I love your review of The Woman in Black. "no one does anything incredibly STUPID." Bahahahahahaha When in a scary movie does someone not do something stupid, especially when its a girl in a dark and foggy forest. haha Thanks for giving me a good laugh. Maybe I'll try the movie on for size.

I'm going to see The Avengers tonight drive-in style. I've seen it already but don't mind seeing it again. It's more for the social event than anything.

    Have a great weekend, Alex.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I really want to see Snow White and Prometheus, and maybe Brave, but I'm in the writing/revision cave all weekend, so I doubt it will happen for me.

No June writing contests for me--I'm racing to get my current WIP ready for the CreateSpace code deadline at the end of June. But good luck!

    ReplyDelete
  83. Prometheus, it is certainly the highlight of the week.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Yay - How was your first day of BuNo? I managed my day's target, but was a bit of a touch and go start with so much going on here.

    Cheering you on!
Off to check out that comp - thanks for the heads up, and a very happy weekend to you
    Laura xx

  85. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is going to the top of my watch list for sure :)

    Good luck with BuMoWriMo too!

    ReplyDelete
  86. You inspired me, Alex. I'm going to do BuNo too. Yayah!!!

I want to several of those films. This summer is going to rock.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Hilde, just got back from seeing Huntsman.

Heather, we just pretend no movies happened after Aliens.

LD, sorry! And working hard on CassaStorm.

Allison, just saw it. I'll review it on Monday.

Julia, I'm here to amuse you!

TL, I'm sure you'll make it.

Laura, will be entering my numbers tonight.

RaShelle, you rock! Glad you're joining in the insanity.

    ReplyDelete
  88. No, I'm not participating in any of those writing events--though I am in an challenge to write 30k this month, with a few other bloggers.

Snow White and the Huntsman looks interesting--as does Brave.

    ReplyDelete
  89. I missed the Hatfield and McCoys but I'm sure I catch the repeats. I would like to see Snow White and The Huntsman though I saw some bad reviews for it.

  90. Looking forward to Abraham Lincoln - Vampire Hunter. Saw Woman in Black. I liked alright. I couldn't get Harry Potter out of my head, even though it was refreshing to see him playing a different character.

I'm contemplating Camp NaNo in August. June is crazy busy. Good luck doing BuMoWriMo! You can do it. :))

    ReplyDelete
  91. wow - I didn't know vampire hunter was a book!
Come on Alex - circus afro's! What's not to love! I can't wait to see it.
    Also Prometheus.

  92. Some of these look pretty good. It's hard for me o do moves or tv in the summer though.

I miss the Drive-In. Boo Hoo

  93. Can't wait to see Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. Lincoln sure was busy during his run as president.

I haven't checked out the contests you speak of. Perhaps I will now.

  94. Best of luck with BuMoWriMo! I really want to see Snow White and the Huntsman and Brave. They both look awesome in different ways! :)

  95. Good luck on BuNoWriMo! I'm starting the 90-Day Novel on Weds. I didn't realize the Abraham Lincoln book was also a movie. I previewed the book on my Kindle. Is it worth the purchase? christy

  98. I am definitely going to see Rock of Ages, but I was so mad when Tom Cruise was cast in it... But I will love the tunes!

    ReplyDelete
  99. I'm such a NaNo fan... I'll definitely participate in November again ;) And sooo many of those movies look good... it's fun to be stoked about a good show :D

  100. I saw the trailers for a lot of these movies. I'd like to see Snow White and the Huntsman. I'm not sure about Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. That sounds pretty twisted. Glad to hear that Woman in Black was good. I'd like to see that one.

    ReplyDelete
  101. There sure are a lot of movies coming out. I want to see Rock of Ages because of all the great songs, but the trailer looks kind of cheesy. I never say Piranha 3D, and now I really want to. I'm going to check out the contests now. Have a great weekend, Alex!

    ReplyDelete
  102. I can't wait gor Rock of Ages!!! And we have Hatfields and McCoys saved in our DVR for the weekend

    ReplyDelete
  103. PROMETHEUS, PROMETHEUS, PROMETHEUS!!! I'll also be checking out Brave this month. And now I really want to watch the Hatfields and McCoys mini-series. Your effusive praise has definitely triggered my watch impulse.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Hatfields & McCoys was excellent. I just finished it earlier today, and I couldn't have been more impressed with the way History handled it. Glad to see there was a ratings payoff for such excellent production; here's hoping other networks follow suit.

  105. Thanks for the link to Helen's contest.

    Have a great weekend Alex.

  106. My husband loved the Hatfield and McCoys! I think Tom Berenger should be up for an Emmy as big bad Jim. Best of luck with BuNo, and Helen's contest also sounds worthwhile! Julie

  107. I want to see Prometheus...looks space scary good, lol
Brave looks like a great flick to see with my daughter~
    Happy Weekend...
    Thanks for the reviews!
    I'm intrigued by this series~
Yes, you are an enabler of good fun!

  108. Best of luck with BuMoWriMo, even though it has nothing to do with luck, lol!
If you want a beta reader after you're done, drop me a line. And give us updates!

    ReplyDelete
  109. Since I watched the trailers and read a spoiler free review I want to see PROMETHEUS which will hit cinemas in Germany on 9th of August.

Great to read that you work on CassaStorm.
50000 words in one month!! I don't want to tell how long it takes for me to write a 600 to 800 words review.

    Good Luck!

    ReplyDelete
  110. I am so looking forward to Prometheus. I have been dying for Scott to return this world ever since Fincher's horrific Alien 3. I just finished Abe Vamp Hunter. What an awesome story and now I cannot wait for the film. And though I can't stand K Stew, I'm seeing Snow White. It looks awesome.

Congrats on the BuMoWriMo and getting CassaStorm going full bore. You are going to rock the challenge.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Susan, it was an uneven film.

Candilynn, you should do NaNo in August.

    Terry, that line IS funny.

Christy, yes - I'm enjoying it!

Kelly, they say he really fits.

Michael, 80's tunes - it has no choice but to be a little cheesy.

Matthew, you would really appreciate the acting, scenery, and complex history of Hatfield and McCoys.

JW, yeah they did an excellent job with it!

Julie, he was BAD, wasn't he?

    Thanks, Sean!!

Edi, if not for the fact I wrote CassaFire during NaNo 2010, I wouldn't think it possible.

  112. Some good choices in the movie mix. I am looking forward to seeing Snow White and Prometheus. The Vampire Hunter sounds like something I would like to see too!I do feel sorry for you having to watch Madagascar, I am so glad my children are in their late teens!

    ReplyDelete
  113. You are making good progress with Cassastorm, Alex. Looks like you will finish the first draft by June end.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Holy moly, Alex! I don't know how you keep track of everything. Thank goodness for your news - I rely on you for it!

    ReplyDelete
  115. Sounds like you're making excellent progress so far with BuNoWriMo. Good luck for the rest of June.

I want to see The Woman in Black, I'd be interested to see Daniel Radcliffe in a different role. I just won't watch it before bed, so I don't have nightmares!

I also want to see Snow White and the Huntsman, simply for the gorgeous Chris Hemsworth.

Brave looks like an excellent family movie, I might see if I can watch it with my kids over the school holidays.

    ReplyDelete
  116. I've decided to throw my hat in the ring for BuNoWriMo! My space opera has been sitting for a while, and needs attention. Just went back and read the first four chapters and realized how much I liked my characters.

None of those movies appeal to me right now, except maybe Snow White. The trailer looks rather LOTR, so at least there's that.

Where do I get that cool counter?

  117. Hey Alex!...I kind of want to see Rock of Ages...I love Alec Baldwin. I'd like to take some grandsons to Madgascar3, looks like a great kids movie..I think I signed up for that Blog thingy on Wednesday...for the life of me, I can't remember what we're supposed to do, or write about! Help!
Have a great weekend and enjoy the flicks!

    ReplyDelete
  118. I really want to see Woman in Black.

Wednesday will mark my first post for IWSG.

    I hope you're having a great weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  119. Agreed with you on all of them. 3DD? Sounds like a bra size, not a movie of any value.

    ReplyDelete
  120. Cm, it's all right, just not my first choice!

    Talli, I do my best.

Clare, Hemsworth is the best part of the movie.

Tina, welcome to BuNo! I think you can click on it to take you to the site where you can set up your own. I just clicked on Hart's counter to get mine.

Eve, visit the tabbed page above marked IWSG and it will explain.

Medeia, so glad you are joining us!

Susan, that is exactly what it means.

  121. CassaStorm? You couldn't have picked a better title for your third book! :) Love it.

Glad you enjoyed The Woman in Black. It lacked originality, but apart from that it was creepy and very atmospheric. Daniel was great in it too.

June will be a great month for movies! I'm excited!

Prometheus premiers a week earlier here, so I'll be able to catch it in the beginning of next week. Envious? :)

Snow White looks beautiful, but my expectations aren't high for numerous reasons.

Loved the first Piranha, but I doubt this one will be as good, since Aja is not involved.

Looking forward to Brave and even AL:VH

    ReplyDelete
  122. I wish you inspiration in CassaStorm.

    ReplyDelete
  123. I don't know what BuMo stands for either, but I can't wait to see Snow White and the Huntsman!

    ReplyDelete
  124. Hi Alex. So much in this post. Thanks. I can't wait to see Snow White and the Huntsman.

  126. did i already comment? there's so many but i didnt see my name...

oh well, i think i can wait on most of these movies, just saw mib3, eh. my expectations were too high. ever feel like some sequels rush thru a plot to outdo the last one? i felt that wy here, the last crusade, and iron man 2

anyway, good job writing! keep it up!

  127. I recorded all 6 hours of the H&M mini-series. My wife is into Costner and we will surely do a marathon of this one. Looks really good. I am ready for the Snow White and the Huntsman movie, saw the trailer the last time I was in the theatre. I also want to see Prometheus (same trailer viewing) and I am really looking forward to the Lincoln Vampire Hunter.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Despite some of the criticism, I enjoyed Snow White and the Huntsma. I liked Kristen Stewart in this, and Hemsworth is definitely a rising star.

    ReplyDelete
  129. I really enjoyed the Hatfield's and the McCoys. Everyone was so well cast. Loved Bill Paxton in this role. Have you seen Snow White yet? I'm curious what you thought of it?

    ReplyDelete
  130. I'm going to participate in NO!NO!No! this month, but if you ask No. 1 son, he would say I participate in this activity *every* month :)

Best of luck with CassieStorm :)

    ReplyDelete
  131. Thanks, George! I can wait a few more days for Prometheus. Keep expectations for the Huntsman low. And Piranha 3D was just such a gorefest!

    Jaycee, I'm working on it.

Tara, that's why I said MIB III was good but not great.

Chuck, you'll benefit from no commercials - hope you watch the mini series soon.

    Carolina, Hemsworth carried the film.

MsMariah, I have - review Monday!

Mark, you are one funny dude!

    ReplyDelete
  132. I'm definitely looking forward to Prometheus, and the Abraham Lincoln one is sure to inspire a whole new slew of similar flicks if it does well. I wonder what Bill Clinton's will be... Good luck on your WiP!

    ReplyDelete
  133. I keep getting stinky looks when I suggest that Brave might just end up being the best movie this summer. I know, I know--stiff competition already! (Avengers) And it's just getting stiffer with Dark Knight around the corner. Just get a really good vibe from Brave.

Excited for Prometheus (of course) even though a couple of early reviews I've read were tepid. I'll probably watch Snow White as well. Abe the Slayer? Not sure yet, but the trailers have me intrigued. :)

  134. Stopping in to pass on a Versatile Blogger Award and a Lucky 7 Meme. Love your blog!

  135. I'd like to see Prometheus. Anything remotely sci-fi will catch my eye.

I don't do one month writing contests. I don't like being tied to the whipping (oops - writing) post. But, I do wish good luck to all participants. My writing time has to be more flexible and not forced.

I still have to get hubby to go see Avengers.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Milo, I can think of several answers to that question!

EJ, Brave could be one of the best!

    LG, thank you.

DG, I've found I do better when forced. And it's just one last time.

    ReplyDelete
  137. Good luck with everything! I'm doing JunoWrimo and CampNanowrimo this month. So far, so good. Is Bunowrimo similar? There is too many wrimos :)

I'm also looking forward to seeing Snow White, and Brave!

  138. Good grief Alex! I had to do some serious scrolling to get to where I can live one of my um 'highly treasured' comments. And after ten minutes of scrolling down, here I am.
Anyway, much I could allude to here. However, good sir, I shall touch on just one part. Here's wishing the very best and you get cracking on "CassaStorm" this month. Only another 94% to go...
Oh, before I go, my son and I plan to watch "Prometheus". All the best, friend and happy writing.
    Gary

  139. Hi, Alex. It's been too long. Sorry about that.
I have been wanting to watch The Woman in Black ever since the first trailers for it were released, and yet I just haven't had the chance. I've got to see it real soon or I'm going to hate myself!
    Take care, man!

    -Jimmy

    ReplyDelete
  140. Andrea, it is very similar!

Gary, sorry you had to scroll to China! And crossed 5000 words today, so I am writing at a good pace.

    James, go enjoy it!

    ReplyDelete
  141. I loved the Woman in Black. It was refreshing to see him in a different type of story.

Watched the Huntsman today. It was pretty good. I enjoyed it.

Take care and have a great new week.

    ReplyDelete
  142. Hemsworth... yum. But I swear, every time he talks, I hear Heath Ledger.

    ReplyDelete
  143. Yes, I'm in Camp NaNoWriMo. I found 50,000 words to be too few. So I'm shooting for 250,000. Now that's crazy.

BRAVE! All my sisters are dying to see this when it comes out.

    ReplyDelete
  144. I'm unofficially doing BuNoWriMo, so maybe I should go ahead and sign up. I still have them on FB from last year, and did start my new novel today!

I'm interested in most of those movies. No interest in Rock of Ages, and Piranha will be a maybe rent. I'm curious how Ving Rhames is in it again...

    Good luck on BuNo!

    ReplyDelete
  145. Just saw Rock of Ages on stage. Having a tough time picturing Tom C. in the role.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Thinking I may as well BuMo, took a weird, crazy, cruel challenge over the weekend to write 30,000 words by 8pm Sunday. Did it. Still shaking. Think 20k in the rest of the month doesn't seem so daunting now.
There are some unusual movies out and about, I can't even look at the poster of the snow white one because we have a spider in Australia named Hun... ugh can't even say it! Horrid things. And the Piranha one... well... But of course I'll see the Ridley Scott movie and Brave looks awesome (go the rangas) and Abraham LIncoln might be interesting. I'd give it a go.

    ReplyDelete
  147. Imogen, that is brave!

    Shannon, sign up anyway!

Charmaine, you've got one heck of a great start!
