My Poetic, Awesome Online Mom, Ninja News, and MIB III Review

Today I have the honor of featuring one of my dearest blogger buddies, someone I often refer to as my online mom – author and poet, Yvonne Lewis.

I met Yvonne over two years ago during the very first A to Z Challenge. (Not me in the picture - that's Danny.) She is just such a wonderful person. Yvonne is loving, gentle, and very genuine. She also has a wonderful free spirit and an eye for beautiful moments. I just adore this gracious and special lady.

Her latest book, Written From the Heart, is a wonderful collection of her poetry. I was honored beyond words when she asked me to write a blurb for her book. Seeing my name on the back of her book was more thrilling than seeing my name on the front. Anyone can publish a book, but not everyone can give another author a meaningful quote. Yvonne, thank you again.

She is here today to share with you a little about her book:

WRITTEN FROM THE HEART:

This book that I wrote
Was to let the readers see.
That after many years of heartache,
There's fun and laughter in me.

Like going to the park,
And descend a slide
While my children and grandchildren
Conveniently disappear and hide.

The book also enlightens people
My blessings I do count.
There are many worse off than me,
That I do not doubt.

My love of traveling is evident to see,
Touring the U.S. and Spain.
So I can escape from
Britain's continual rain.

Also Daniel O Donnell concerts,
I really do enjoy.
I'd travel to the ends of the earth,
To see my "Danny Boy".

The "Blurb" of the book,
I'm proud of I confess.
For the final part was written
By fellow blogger Alex....no less.

I wrote this book in the first place,
To let the whole world see.
But most importantly
That my family would be proud of me.

I know some of you have already bought,
I'm so grateful for a start.
I think there's a poem for everyone,
In "Written From The Heart"

- Yvonne

Ninja News!

Author Andrew Leon at Strange Pegs has taken some of the stories from a class he taught at his kid’s school and created a book, Charter Shorts. Proceeds from the book benefit the school, which is really cool, so grab a copy today!

Wendy Tyler Ryan’s new book, Fire’s Children is out now! Long fight to make it happen so congratulations, Wendy.

Movie Review

Men in Black III
A vast improvement over MIB II, which lacked in the humor department. This one plays more like a straight adventure film, although Will Smith has some very funny lines. It involves time travel and wraps up a lot of plot ties. Best part was Josh Brolin’s performance as a young agent K – he nailed Tommy Lee Jones. Not a movie that you have to catch in the theater, but it was good.

Following Yvonne? Enjoy her poetry? Any news I missed? Did you see MIB III? Or did you contribute more money to The Avengers’ billion plus take? And is anyone else hooked on watching The Hatfields and McCoys?

  1. Really; is that a picture of you too Alex? Interesting.

Fabulous you got asked to do the blurb. The posted poem is lovely.

I'll have to go congratulate Wendy.

  2. I'm looking forward to MIIIB but I think I need to pump more money into The Avengers. Its success has led to Iron Man 3's budget being increased, so I want to help it increase even more :)

  3. Thanks for the mention Alex.

    Congrats to Wendy.

    Have a good day.

    Yvonne.

  4. Is it really bad that I've never seen any of the Men In Black movies?! I am ashamed of myself lol!

  5. What a great poem!! I confess, I struggle with poetry - I never feel as though I'm 'getting it'.

I only saw MIB I, but the trailer I've seen looked good - I agree about Brolin nailing Tommy Lee Jones!

  6. That is so awesome about Yvonne! I love reading her poems.
As for MIB3, I have yet to see it. I haven't seen The Avengers either, though, so no big deal.
Thanks for the Ninja news! I'm off to the rooftops to slip away... hmm... not very Ninja of me if I tell you what I'm doing. XD

  7. Lots of great news and books to check out. :)

I love the MIB movies, so I'll definitely watch the third.

  8. Another great poem from Yvonne, with a lovely tribute from you. Yvonne is extremely loyal, and has the gift of turning every event into a poem set to music. Wishing you continued success with your book Yvonne! We saw MIB 3 over the weekend, and I agree that Josh Brolin made the movie. Julie

  9. I can't even remember MIB 2, so it must have been pretty lame. I guess I'll have to check out the new one.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I was wondering the same thing Donna! We never see you Alex, so we wouldn't know if it was you or not.

I saw the shorts of MIB3 and it looked like it would be a laugh, but I haven't seen it yet.

Yvonne's poem is lovely! And congrats having both your book on Amazons best sellers list!

    Jamie, go man, go!

    Yvonne, you are most welcome.

    Kyra, no shame.

Annalisa, same here, but I get Yvonne's.

    Mel, you're a Ninja-in-training.

    Ted, I can't either.

    CM, not me, promise!

Sean, you need to fix that.

  13. Yvonne sounds very special! As for MIB, I'll wait for the video. I'm sure we'll rent it.

  14. Really? Hatfields and McCoys? Is this a remake, or am I that old...lOL! Ding, ding...Bells is ringing, but nobody home. Now you got me curious. MIB3 is one I am looking forward to seeing, was going during the week-end but got stuck in a paintbrush. I believe that I am following Yvonne, you know I love poetry, will have to check out her book. Great title-- lovely dedication my ninja friend :)

  15. Not a big fan of MIB. In fact, I haven't seen the first two movies.
I won't be watching this in the theater, especially when Prometheus' release is just around the corner. It premiers a week earlier here, than it does in the US. I can't wait!

    ReplyDelete
  16. Saw MIB III and loved it! The highlight was Brolin, but I also loved the story and how things came full circle.

Congrats to Yvonne and Wendy. Their books sound awesome. I love Yvonne's poetry. She is so amazingly talented with verses, I am blown away.

And Avengers is now the third highest grossing film ever behind Avatar and Titanic. Holy Guacamole!

    ReplyDelete
  17. I am so off to see MIB3 during the jubilee hols next week and I cannot cannot cannot wait!

Hello Yvonne!! Love your poem here - nice rhythm and sweet fun sentiments!! All the best with your book!! Yay for poetry!!

  18. MIB3 does look better than 2 (alhtough not very hard to do), but still not sure I'll be rushing out to see it. Been a long time since I saw a really impressive sequel.

  22. Hoping to see MIB III this weekend and just saw the trailer a little while ago for The Hatfields and The McCoys...what a great cast!

    ReplyDelete
  23. That was a lovely tribute to Yvonne, Alex.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I assumed MIB was going to be like the second one. Maybe I'll see it (as if I ever get out of the house). I want an awesome online mom.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Yvonne is an absolute sweetie! Love her :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. Congratulations on your book, Yvonne! Hope it sells like hotcakes!

And Alex, I have to tell you that my husband, Dave, is your biggest fan right now. First he read Cassa Fire because he didn't know which was which and just started reading. Now he's reading Cassa Star. HE LOVES THEM BOTH. I'm not kidding. And that's really saying something because Dave isn't an avid reader. In fact, most of his life he's read nothing but Louis L'Amour books. I bought him your books as a gift and was hoping he'd take an interest (because he loves sci fi on TV). Not only has he taken an interest, he is truly glued to your books. He is not the fastest reader but every night at bedtime he opens up his Kindle and reads until he can't keep his eyes open anymore. So kudos to you, Alex, for doing the impossible ... getting my husband to READ.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Aw, congratulations to your online Mom Yvonne! Loved her short poem explaining the book! And I didn't like MIB II either which is why I hadn't planned on seeing this one. But it sounds like it wasn't so bad!

  28. A guest post done in poetry. Awesome Yvonne. Congrats on your new book!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Congratulations to Yvonne!

And my son and daughter saw the new Men and Black and really enjoyed it (they hadn't seen the others, of course...so many years ago for the first one!)

    ReplyDelete
  31. Congrats to Yvonne on the book!
The MIB theme song is ringing in my head - *sings* here come the men in black... galaxy defenders...
Is the theme song the same for all MIB movies?

  32. Congrats Yvonne!

    PVRing the Hatfields :)

  33. What a cool relationship between you too, including the blurb.
We are watching Hatfields and McCoys here

  34. Go, Yvonne!! I remember her from She Writes, which *hangs head* I haven't been back to since my surgery. Congrats, Yvonne. :))

Saw Men in Black III this weekend. I liked it. Funny. For me, it was more about wrapping up a few holes in the storyline.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Congrats to your online mom, Yvonne. Really enjoyed that poem, explaining her book. So clever.

I agree with you on MIB III, The Husband and I decided to pump more money into the Avengers, and wait for MIBIII to come out on DVD. :)

  36. Lovely poem and nice tribute to Yvonne. And I am so hooked on the Hatfield and McCoy Mini Series.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Hmm, bunch of questions. I didn't know Yvonne, thanks for the indroduction. Can't think of any missed news. Haven't seen MIB III but intend to. Yup, added to The Avengers profits. And, yes!, I'm loving the H & M mini-series.

  38. How exciting that you were asked for a blurb!
Congrats to Yvonne sounds like a wonderful book.

I finally got to see Avengers! It was awesome! :)

  44. Yvonne is quite a talent. Our paths crossed in the initial A-Z challenge as well. I haven't seen either Avengers or MIBIII neither are really my cup of tea.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I contributed to The Avengers. I'd like to see it again in the theater and will definitely buy it when it comes out on DVD.

I need to watch MIB (1) with my kids.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Congratulations to Yvonne. Her posts are always fun and lovely. My Stetson's off to you for being asked to do the blurb. How neat is that?

Thanks, Jamie, for letting me know that the budget for IRON MAN III has been increased due to the enormous success of THE AVENGERS. And thanks, Alex, for mentioning Wendy's new book! Roland

    ReplyDelete
  47. I agree that Josh Brolin did an excellent Tommy Lee Jones. I also went and saw The Avengers for a second time because it was so good. I have recorded the first two episodes of The Hatfields and McCoys, but I haven't watched them yet.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Jamie, I'd wait.

    Roland, it was beyond neat.

Jeremy, the mini series is really well done.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I'll wait for the Blu-ray of MiB3, but I did see Battleship this weekend with my son. We both enjoyed it! I'm like Jeremy, recording the Hatfield & McCoy episodes for consumption later without commercials!

    Happy Hump Day! :)

    ReplyDelete
  50. Good luck to Yvonne and Written From The Heart! And we contributed to the Avengers astounding $$$ total. Twice. ANd worth it!

Thanks for the MIB III review. We'll see that sometime this week.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Congrats to Yvonne and Wendy. Very lovely poem by Yvonne.

Will wait for the dvd on MIB3, but then I usually do ... :) Hope you're getting lots of writing done.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I enjoyed Miss Yvonne's poetry immensely! She is wonderful!!

I have yet to see Men in Black III, but if I do go to the threare again any time soon it will be to see The Avengers again. As much as I like Will Smith, I'd rather watch super heroes saving the world. I do plan on seeing MIBIII though, sometime.

Oh, I want to see The Hatfields and McCoys but I forgot about the show. I'm going to have to see if it is on Hulu

    ReplyDelete
  53. Yvonne seems to be extremely sweet. It shows in what she wrote. How nice.

Well, I'm just visiting blogs. I'm still on hiatus.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Hi Alex .. great post with Yvonne .. I commented on the A - Z one ..

Not sure I'll do the films - though the Avengers I might go to sometime ..

    Cheers Hilary

  55. Friend said Avengers was great, I thought it was to do with Emma Peel and Mr. Sneed, obviously not. I don't think I will bother until iTunes has it.

How lovely to get your poetry published, maybe I should try with mine.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I'm waiting to see Hatfields & McCoys until I have all three recorded. It seems one of those things that I won't want to wait for the next part.

  57. DL, told you it was fun!

    Mary, I am!

Miss Jack, I think they are playing all six hours tonight.

    Jo, you should.

Joshua, it's been tough to wait twice now!

  58. The book sounds wonderful! I love poetry and enjoyed her little poem right here. I am definitely going to get this! Poetry is so powerful.

Thanks for sharing Alex! And I am looking forward to MIB3! Whoo-hoo!

  59. I love Yvonne. She is such a sweetheart and I love when she comments, that I can hear her accent in her words.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I still have not seen Avengers or MIB III. Yvonne- glad to see you!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Love the lighthearted feel and subtle humor Yvonne brings across in her writing. I *really* enjoyed that! And for a moment, I thought we were getting to see the ninja! Ah well... Danny's shirt is definitely Ninja worthy ;)

  62. I'm so glad you featured Yvonne on the A to Z Blog today. Appropriate since she was the first person to sign up for the first Challenge.
Hatfields and McCoys? Haven't seen anything about this, but I'd be game for this one if it were good.

  63. First off, that's a real big tease to post a picture and then say it's not you. You know that's what everyone was thinking "Do we finally get to see the Alex Cavanaugh?"

Second, am I the only one that didn't mind MIB2? I've liked all three movies. I liked the latest installment quite a bit and intend on seeing it again soon with friends who are going to visit.

So yeah, I guess I'm weird. I didn't mind MIBII, and I really liked the first one.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Kudos Yvonne.

I hate to disagree with the Captain, but I thought MIB II was a little better than MIB III ... but neither captured the creativity and fun of the first one.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I'm amazed by people who can write such beautiful poetry. :)

    ReplyDelete
  66. Hey Alex! That's awesome that you got to write a blurb for this book! Congratulations!!..It looks good...I did not see MIB3, not my kind of movie, same with the Avengers..(sorry!)...I saw Kevin Costner on the Anderson show talking about the Hatfields and McCoys..it sounds good, but I don't get the channel it's on.
Take care Alex, and have a terrific day!

    ReplyDelete
  67. I admire anyone who can write poetry. And you blurbed for her? What an honor...for both of you. Why didn't I think of asking you? Darn! Is it too late?

Well those sub photos are cool. As an architect & interior designer, I'm not too fond of overly themed rooms, but they were well-done, especially the kid's room. Good publicity for the designer & fabricator.

I've only seen the ads, but Josh Brolin's spot-on as a young Tommy Lee Jones.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Yvonne is a truly sweet lady and I always love visiting her blog!

  69. Beautiful poetry. Thx for sharing.

I'm so glad MIB is good this time around. I'm debating seeing that one. :)

    ReplyDelete
  70. Haven't seen MIB but I am definitely going to see Prometheus when it comes out. I've also seen the ads for Hatfield/McCoys and it did look cool (I do like a good western).

    ReplyDelete
  71. I'm reading Yvonne's book of poetry and enjoying her work very much. I also follow her blog and have always enjoyed the music she picks to go with her poems.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I thought I will finally get to see a picture of you, but I guess I will have to wait for that day ;)

Your online mom sounds great, and her poetry is super.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Like MIB, since anything Will Smith is in 'will' be good, IMO. With Tommy Lee Jones, it's a good match.

Poetry can soothe our worried minds or at least distract us.
Will check out Yvonne later today.

I'm now on Bk 2 - CassaFire, Alex, and I like the beginning. Byron hasn't lost any of his spunk. . .

  74. Great Ninja news Alex and guest post. Yvonne is so cool. I did see MIB3 and my review is coming next week.

  75. Oh, congratulations to Yvonne on her book release! I wish her the best with it!

MIB3 looks pretty good--I like the humor or those best, though I have a read to recommend that is almost the same only paranormal beings instead of aliens: Hard Spell by Justin (G something).

  76. I admire all poets! Great seeing Yvonne on your blog, Alex.

  77. I'm with Michael, I liked MiBII. No, it wasn't as good as the first, but it was still pretty enjoyable. I'm crying because I don't think I'm going to be able to make it to 3 at the theater. :(

Thanks for the plug! It's much appreciated!

    ReplyDelete
  78. I never did see MIB 2, despite loving the first one to bits. I guess I'll have to go watch it now that part 3 is finally here. I'm glad you enjoyed it and I am looking forward to seeing it as a result of this review.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Leigh, she will be so happy to hear that!

    Morgan, no such luck.

Lee, she is the veteran! And you'd enjoy Hatfields and McCoys.

Michael, just didn't resonate with me. Third one was good, but not enough to go back and see again with so many good movies coming out.

Eve, sorry you don't get to see the mini-series!

    Nancy, not too late!

    MsHatch, check it out tonight.

Patricia, she'll be thrilled to hear that!

DG, glad you are enjoying it!!!

Also, that's great news about MIB3! Hooray!

  90. I think Andrew's book sounds amazing. I told him that it seemed like a wonderful way to get kids interested in reading, and the more I think about it, the more I'm sure that's true.

I'm still planning my MIB3 viewing. Glad to hear it was better than 2, which I enjoyed, but felt was just marginal at the end of the day.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Okay, confession: we went to see Men In Black III last Friday, then afterwards we snuck into The Avengers (which was my second time seeing it - the first time, we paid, I swear!!)

I liked MIB! It was very funny and Josh Brolin totally did a spot-on Tommy Lee Jones, to the point where I totally forgot they were actually different people (if that makes sense). And Avengers was just as good the second time. :)

    ReplyDelete
  92. SL, I thought what Andrew did for the kids was great.

Jennifer, you stole seven bucks from the Avengers! I'm sure they won't miss it though.

  104. Greetings Alex and to your mum (sorry, my spell check insists on mum instead of "mom"), Yvonne.
Very good Yvonne and whatever's written in your heart is all that matters...and what's this about "Britain's continual rain"? Um, don't you know that in Britain we have evidently been having a "drought".
Anything has got to be a vast improvement of MIB 11.
All the best to you both and happy writing.

  114. I am going to go visit Yvonne tonight. Very nice that you got to blurb her book! I will probably wait for MIBIII to hit the DVD circuit...and I am recording all 3 nights of the H&M mini-series so my wife and I can have a marathon on Sunday...for my birthday!

  127. I didn't get to see MIB last weekend. The kids didn't want to see it, even the wife said no. She's all about seeing that Snow White movie coming up though. I'll probably see that one, maybe I can talk her into seeing MIB in a double feature or something.

  128. I follow Yvonne and her poetry is wonderful.

I loved the first MIB. Good to know this one is good.

  130. I watched the MIB III trailer and it looked boring to me...more of the same stuff in retreads.
    Nice feature of Yvonne!

  132. I have seen the Avengers. And loved it. Haven't seen Men In Black, but expect to, maybe this coming weekend.

Congratulations to Yvonne on her book of poetry and to you for being asked to do a cover blurb!

  134. YAY YVONNE! She is so sweet and lovely and deserves every little bit of recognition she gets!

  135. I enjoyed MIB 3 - as you said, Josh Brolin was excellent as a younger Tommy lee Jones, I really felt like I was watching TLJ himself! I also liked a more mature Will Smith, but still funny and some great lines. I was probably most impressed by SNL's Bill Hader as Andy Warhol - had no idea he'd be in it! I <3 Hader, he is so versitile.

  138. Yvonne, you are welcome, and they really came out in support of you for this post!

Rusty, I know I'll be catching Snow White and the Huntsman this weekend.

Laura, this one was different, but nothing earth shattering.

Helen, I was so honored to do the blurb.

Stephsco, he really looked like Warhol.

  139. I can tell you have a lot of respect for her. She seems like such a nice and gracious lady. I'm headed to her blog next. :)

I enjoy most everything Will Smith is in, but I think I'll wait until this one comes to video. I'm glad it was better than II, though.

  140. Yvonne, I love that your guest post is a poem! Perfect.

Alex, were the fun little aliens (I forget what they're called but they were smoking in the break room in the first movie) in MIB III? They're my favorite.

Yvonne seems like a wonderful person to have around on the web. I'll take a look at her book. And I haven't been away from the keyboard long enough to see any movies in a long time, but I'll check out The Avengers and MIB III. I'll list it as a business expense for my accountant.
