Logan Movie Review, MST3K Returns, RiffTrax: Live Schedule, Ayreon – The Source, Superhero Movie Trivia, Special Feature – Birgit, and Zafris-Kothari Writer Workshop

Movie Review – Logan

Set a few years in the future, Logan hides out while caring for an ailing Professor X. Mutants have been wiped out and Logan has plans to protect the professor, but his world is disrupted when a young mutant appears.
Logan is an excellent film. It’s more drama than superhero film. Those who don’t like the traditional super hero movies will appreciate this film–the mutants do have powers, but the focus is on the characters, none of which are superheroes.
The film is dark and bleak. This isn’t The Avengers. You won’t come away all happy and pumped. It has depressing elements that will make you think and touch your heart.
All three leads were fantastic. They are all broken characters, flawed and full of regrets. While their plight is sorrowful, it’s also what connects viewers to the film.
Logan is not for kids and rated R for a reason. While it is no more violent than other superhero films, it does show the graphic capabilities of Wolverine’s claws.
It’s also over two hours, but the story is captivating from start to finish.
Due to its heaviness, it’s not one for repeat viewings, but I do highly recommend it.

MST3K is Back!

The new season of Mystery Science Theater 3000 starts April 14 on NetFlix!

Jonah Ray is the show’s new host, and we saw him last year during the RiffTrax: Live MST3K Reunion Show. Felicia Day plays Dr. Forrester’s daughter and Patton Oswalt son of TV’s Frank. Hampton Yount and Baron Vaughn are the voices of Crow T. Robot and Tom Servo, while original creator Joel Hodgson helms the prodution.

MST3K’s best years were with Mike Nelson and Kevin Murphy, especially once Bill Corbett took over for Crow. So we can only hope this new version will live up to the standards.

For updates, check the MST3K website and @MST3K.

RiffTrax: Live

RiffTrax is also launching its live show schedule.

On April 13, it’s a new version of Samurai Cop. (We recently watched the first RiffTrax version and wow, is that movie bad!) Then it’s the Summer Shorts Beach Party on June 15, which will include Mary Jo Pehl and Bridget Nelson. Finally, it’s a super-secret mystery movie on August 17.

In order to pull off these shows, they’ve set up a Kickstarter. You get some cool stuff depending how much you pledge, so check it out.

New Ayreon Album

The Source is another concept album and returns to science fiction. The story takes place before the album 01011001. It has an all-star cast of musicians and singers, including James LaBrie from Dream Theater, Floor Jansen from Nightwish, Russell Allen from Symphony X, and Tommy Karevik from Kamelot and Seventh Wonder.

The Source will be released on April 28.

So for Monday’s Music Moves Me, hosted by X-Mas Dolly, I’m featuring two videos from The Source.

The first video is the third song on the album – it’s short and very accessible for anyone who enjoys fun rock music. Plus there are some cool animations.

This song, the first on the album, is a traditional prog rock song and thirteen minutes long. But what’s amazing about it is the running commentary (in text) from the master mind himself, Arjen Anthony Lucassen. It also features cool graphics and showcases all eleven guest singers.

Special Writer Feature

We have such a great community of bloggers and writers here that I’ve decided to feature some cool people you may not have met yet.

Today I am featuring Birgit from BB’s Creations. I met her a couple years ago and always stop by for her Thursday movie picks and to admire her creativity with cards. Take it away, Birgit!

So my name is Birgit...not Brigit, Bridgette, burdgett, butget, beernut, bagel, bruschetta, baguette, gretel or Ingrid and, yes, I have been called all of these

Where are you located?
I am not sure what you mean by my real location but I am somewhere between lost and
 Albuquerque.

What spurs your passion and creativity when it comes to making cards?
I love when I see a beautiful picture of a sunset, flowers, animals a person who has warmed my heart, colours, and..Jo's purple bowling ball:)
So the card I am showing has all my favourites, blues and purples, an animal, colouring with my markers, 3D effect, embossing, sparkle and shine and crystals.

Can we buy any of them?
To be honest, I am scared that I won't find the time and start feeling the pressure to make cards for money plus I just think my cards are not ok that special but I am tickled pink when people like them. Now, if someone would love to have a card, I will create one for them and send it...just because....unless you want a 100 of them, then I know you want to drive me insane.

What do you enjoy most about the Thursday Movie Picks?
I joined Thursday Movie Picks because I love the themes each week and to see what other movies people pick. I like to find out why they like them, or sometimes, hate them plus it gives me more choices to watch in the future. Right now I have. List that is about. 5 miles long. Simply put, I love movies.

What is your favorite movie?
My favourite film is It's A Wonderful Life with James Stewart. It shows an average man in a small town that most of the world have no idea who this man is. In this town, he always gives often sacrificing what he desires to make others happy. When he realizes what life would be like in the town if he never existed, he sees how much good he has done making his life worth meaning and worth living. Even though I have seen this, 50 times if not more, I cry every time Harry comes through the door to see his big brother George. I only hope I could be a bit like George.

Tonja wanted to pass on some information about an incredible writing workshop:
Unique among workshops tackling the novel, the Zafris-Kothari workshop reads and analyzes 200 pages of your novel. Brainstorming with an individual instructor leads to restructuring the novel. Along with this are group craft lessons. The days are intense and fulfilling. A full day is complemented with an evening together for participants to read their work. Several published novels have come out of this workshop which was begun at the Kenyon Review Writers' Workshops
Tonja says:
The Zafris-Kothari novel workshop is like no other. You have the option to have 100 or 200 pages of your novel critiqued. This intense workshop focuses on your writing - you are not tasked with critiquing others. Because such a large chunk of your novel is critiqued by highly skilled writers, editors, and teachers, you will get feedback on how your narration choice and structure is working across your entire novel. The workshop was life-changing for me as a writer. I can't recommend it enough.

Movie Trivia

In honor of Logan’s release, today’s trivia is all about superhero films. Name the movie from the director and year:

1 – Richard Lester, 1980
2 – Alex Proyas, 1994
3 – Guillermo del Toro, 2004
4 – Sam Raimi, 1990
5 – Bryan Singer, 2014
6 – Mark AZ Dippe, 1997
7 – Russell Mulchany, 1994

Answers on Monday!

Anyone else see Logan? Excited about the return of MST3K? Going to see the RiffTrax: Live shows? Following Birgit? (Want to order a hundred cards from her?) Interested in the Zafris-Kothari workshop? And do you know any of the movie trivia?
Thanks again for another awesome IWSG post day! I visited as many as I could, despite having to do battle with the word verification that shows up after visiting thirty or so Blogger blogs. I mean, what’s up with this?

  1. I've heard great things about 'Logan.' Thanks for your take on it!

Birgit's cards look amazing and I like her sense of humor. :)

Didn't know that about the word verification on Blogger--that's such a pain!

  2. Happy Monday, Alex. I haven't seen Logan yet but it's on my list of must see, especially as it's Hugh Jackman's last time at playing the character. I recently watched an interview with Jackman and Patrick Stewart - both very charming, handsome and funny. I hope I age with the grace and good-looks of Jackman :) I love Birgit's blog and very envious of her artistic talent. Great post. Thank you for sharing.

  3. You've definitely caught my interest in Logan now. It sounds like an intense movie. Can't wait to see it. Nice to meet Birgit and her cards look awesome. Blogger likes throwing a few curves now and then.

  4. Thanks for introducing us to Brigit. I'll pop over and check out her blog. Logan sounds interesting. I've seen the Avengers and like the idea of a more character driven superhero film.

The blogger verification things is annoying, but I guess it's good in a way because it means you're visiting a lot of blogs and sharing some comment love with folks.

    Cheers - Ellen

  5. Good Morning Alex,

I hope you have a wonderful week. Nice blogger feature. I will have to visit Brigit's blog.

    ReplyDelete
  6. I really enjoy your movie reviews, thanks for that.
I’m also excited to see you are featuring some cool blogs, and I am off to visit Birgit as soon as I’ve left this comment.
    Have an excellent week.

  7. It was great to "meet" Brigit!

I've only seen a few episodes of classic MST3K. Humm...it might be time to consider getting a Netflix subscription.

  8. Morning Alex! Logan gives a chance to reminisce on Jackman again. MST3K sounds interesting. Will keep an eye upon its coming. Birgit does lots of review not just on movies but also the Oscar night. Her cards at Cards Yippee are most creative. They are fantastic. She is so talented!

  9. First, thanks for showcasing me! I see how my I pad can screw up what I wanted to write and how it shows up....people who are grammar perfectionists will be squirming in their seats:) I do want to see Logan and it does look more character driven which is a nice change but I hope their is a positive ending in the film. I have no clue about the movie quiz but I am thinking Superman must be in there along with The Avengers but ...no clue:) I am very happy people think I am so talented.

  10. Alex,

It's great to have you step out on the dance floor with the 4M crew! Your mewsic picks are new-to-me. I don't think these are songs I can enjoy listening to on a regular basis but I found them interesting. I especially liked the second one a little better.

We've seen a few of the X-Men movies but never got totally hooked on the series. Logan looks like a good flick and I hope it finds its way to Netflix eventually as that's when I'll watch it for sure! What a sweet thing to feature Birgit today! She's a very talented card maker and I'm one of those guilty of calling her Brigit. I didn't realize like forever I wasn't seeing her name correctly. lol Anywho, I first met Birgit through BoTB, I believe or it could've been the A-Z Challenge. Yikes, I'm horrible at remembering small facts. Anyway, she I totally connect on the mewsic & movie score plus she inspires me with her hand-stamped creations!

I won't even attempt your movie trivia. None of these sound remotely familiar and the only way I'd have a shot at these is to consult Google but I think that's cheating, right?

Have a great week, my friend!

    ReplyDelete
  11. We went to see Hidden Figures yesterday (loved it!) and Logan was playing right next to our room. It was PACKED!!!

    ReplyDelete
  12. I'll surely be watching Logan soon enough. Heard the Deadpool trailer before hand was great too. Birgit is grand indeed, the cat would order 100 to annoy her lol

Almost had me on Darkman, Spawn I only remembered because it was meh at best.

    Superman 2
    The Crow
    Hellboy
    Darkman
    X-men Days of Future Past
    Spawn
umm The phantom or The shadow?

  13. glad to hear Logan was worthwhile. I was waiting for your review. Ray and I saw Get Out yesterday -funny and intense and different. I love her cards - very creative and I shall check out her site. Ready for a March week - blustery, cold, and in one day hot. Spring is here. Have a good one.

  14. Birgit's card is beautiful.

I hope the new MST is as good as the old.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Logan looks good, and I have read such good things about it.

Birgit, you've been called bruschetta? Wow! Your cards are BEATUIFUL!

The Zafris-Kothari workshop is way (way-way) out of my price way.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Wow, a thirteen minute song? Didn't know anyone did that anymore. Looks like your a castle builder now! Long live the empire! It was a great ISWG day last week.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I like the Special Writer Feature! And Birgit's card is wonderful!

I am not even going to attempt the trivia this time around....

    ReplyDelete
  18. Now that I've read your review, I definitely want to see Logan! Thanks :)

    ReplyDelete
  19. I enjoyed the interview with Birgit. The cards sound lovely.
I haven't run into the problem of the word verification.
Have a great week. If you still need co-hosts, I can do it.

  20. I considered going to Canada to see Logan, but hubby just bought a 55inch OLED TV so we basically have a theater in our home now and going over to Canada to see a movie is a hassle, so I'm probably going to wait and just buy it.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Thanks for the reviews, Alex. Logan sounds like a movie I'd like to see, but I'd never be able to convince my husband, sister, or daughter to go with me. Like my choices in books, my movie tastes are eclectic and I find myself watching certain genres alone. That's okay with me. I won't have to share my popcorn.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Elizabeth, is that one not annoying?

Nicola, both of them are great in the movie and it is their last in those roles.

Ellen, I do visit a lot that day...

    Good morning, Truedessa!

Sandra, you need to watch some! You don't want to lose your geek card.

Birgit, happy to feature you and no worries!

Cathy, thanks for stepping out of your comfort zone to listen.

Rosey, I bet! Our showing was rather full.

Pat, you know your movies - clean sweep!

Joanne, I still want to see that one.

Karen, you'll have to ask her.

Dean, most prog rock songs are over seven minutes.

    Thanks, Beverly!

  23. Hi, Alex!

Bravo for featuring Birgit in today's post. Birgit is one of my favorite blogger friends. One reason is because I am genuinely interested in her blog and can relate to the content of her posts. The second reason is because she takes time to write decent replies to comments. The third reason is because she writes intelligent comments on the blogs of others and thereby makes a meaningful contribution to the discussion of the topic. In other words, BB is what I call a "full service blogger." I appreciate Birgit's answer to the question about selling her greeting cards. When you are motivated primarily by money rather than by love and passion, the product often suffers. Pressure and creativity don't mix well with many people.

I enjoyed those cuts from the new Ayreon album, a collaboration of rock artists including one of my favorite metal maidens Floor Jansen. The tracks are hard enough to appeal to me and I also liked the visuals.

Have a great week, good buddy Alex!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Interesting review for Logan. Definitely makes me curious about seeing it. The song Everybody Dies by Ayreon sounded familiar. And then it hit me... like a cross between Queen and Yes.

If that one card is an example, Birgit's work must be awesome. I sympathize with all the variations on her name, I get that too.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Thanks for your Logan review. I'm excited about it, and I hope I can see it before it leaves the theatres. Not long until the new MST3K! Yay! Birgit's work is beautiful.

    ReplyDelete
  26. You won’t come away all happy and pumped. You can say that again. Let me put it this way: this movies is not for little blue guys. But since the glass is half full today, let me point out that in additional to the characters, the camera work is excellent.

    ReplyDelete
  27. "somewhere between lost and Albuquerque" is a great response -- I'm heading over to visit Birgit's blog.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Haven't seen Logan yet and might not unless I see it 40 years from now. Just tell me though--does Logan have to run in the movie? Maybe I saw an earlier version.

The word verification almost looks fun like a puzzle, but don't know if I'd have time for many like that.

Birgit's card is lovely. Patterns and colors attract me too.

  30. I enjoy Brigit's blog with all the great old movies she so often features.

I'd like to take a look at Logan and see what that's about. As to the annoying word verification thing, when I run into that I quit trying to post comments.

  31. Dam, everybody dies video that was totally wild & the ending was phenomenal. I mean dam!!! Thanks for sharing. 33. I've heard great things about Logan. I'd love to see it, but I haven't seen any of the other X-Men movies. Worried it wouldn't make sense to me.

I really have no idea on any of the trivia, but here are my guesses:

    1. Superman
    3. Hellboy
    4. Darkman

    ReplyDelete
  34. I had to hurry past your LOGAN review because I've not seen it yet, Tim did though. I cannot go to the movie house so I'm gonna have to avoid any reviews. Don't look, don't look, don't look.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I was too busy to go see Logan, but my son said it was great. I hate those picture verification things. Why? why?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Patricia, cool you have your own big screen now.

Valerie, just go by yourself and enjoy!

Shady, she is a complete blogger. I guess I am only half service then. Thought you might appreciate the new Ayreon tracks.

Bish, both were early prog bands, so yes!

Blue, it was some great camera work and cinematography.

Lee, a few times, yes. And just wait until the Challenge - you will see it a lot.

Lee, unfortunately I can't quit. Although I do start looking for Wordpress blogs for a while.

Marie, glad it entertained you! Hopefully I'll be with you next week as well.

Heather! No boobs, but plenty of blood and carnage.

    MJ, three right!

    Sorry, Ivy!

  37. Thanks for posting about the novel workshop. As for Logan, I wish they would make super-hero movies that the 8-year-old crowd could watch without close supervision.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Still haven't decided if I'm going to see Logan in a theater or at home. I do want to see it, though. And I'm quite excited for MST3K. I have high hopes!

Also, it's great to see Bridgetruck on here (thanks for the correction, I had always called her Bruschetta). We love Beretta and her awesome cards.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I love Birgit too. She's hilarious and has incredible knowledge about classic (and not so classic) films. Glad you featured her.

That first music video is really impressive too.
    Take care, Alex.

    ReplyDelete
  40. In all the busy-ness I've had lately, I actually missed that Logan was coming out last week. I'm going to try for this week sometime.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Woo Hoo, Birgit!
    Great choice, Alex.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I'm glad to hear Logan is worth watching. It definitely looks darker and more character driven than most superhero movies.

    ReplyDelete
  43. That sounds like an amazing workshop. I'll let my local writers' group know about it.

I also hate those word verifications, and the even-worse verifications involving numbers and pictures. It's not that hard to manually filter out spam, and it slows down commenting and networking if every single post needs to be approved or go through a long process of verification.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Birgit's card is beautiful . . . lovely colours especially the purple.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I have heard good things about Logan.
    Thank you for introducing Birgit.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I think I left my comment on another post. Oops!!!! Just saying I'm not an MST3k fan. I feel weird about it. Everyone I know loves them!!!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Lots happening! Thanks for all the info. Nice to meet Birgit. Thanks for the intro!

    ReplyDelete
  48. I want to see Logan. I have been reading about it. The hero who has failed, approaching the character as someone who was not the hero they thought they were, and the huge unexpected twist we see. They are also saying this may be the last movie.

    Juneta @ Writer's Gambit

    ReplyDelete
  49. I have such fond memories of MST3K. I'm going to check out the new series on Netflix. I enjoyed Birgit's answers. Her cards are beautiful and It's a Wonderful Life is one of my favorites as well. I love anything with Jimmy Stewart.

    ReplyDelete
  50. This movie really sounds interesting. The X-Men franchise has always felt fun but weak to me, but Logan feels like it has a good deal of substance to it. Plus Patrick Stewart. Can't go wrong there.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Thank you everyone for your kind responses here and Shady...you made me blush. Glad you like my blog and card featured here...beretta signing off:)

    ReplyDelete
  52. Susan, I don't know!!!

Tonja, you definitely don't want to take an eight year old to Logan.

    Brandon and Bryan - funny!

    Cherie, definitely darker.

    Carrie-Anne, well said.

    Libby, what's wrong with you?

Juneta, without giving anything away, definitely the last one.

    Jenni, you rock.

JE, it's got a whole different vibe to it.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I do want to see Logan. I had no idea it would be so dark, though.

I see you're interviewing bloggers after I've stopped. Birgit was on my list for when I pick it up again. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  54. I want to see Logan ... hmm. If I can get to the theater, I will. (Or, I might wait - I'm still recoverng from my first sugery at a snail's pace.)
Loved the prog rock album - amazing instrumentals and vocals. Wow.

3 - Spiderman (one of the three with Tobey Maguire)

  55. I'm looking forward to Logan - but haven't seen it yet :)
Those captcha pics are so annoying - and hard!!

    ReplyDelete
  56. I'm a follower of Birgit and look forward to her posts. Take care.

    ReplyDelete
  57. If there are tears, I'll forego Logan! :)

Got enough of my own reasons to cry don't need a fictional character's problems too. LOL

Oh dear, not a day to be repeated, I hope!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Birgit, I love your elephant card! But I would never order 100 from you. I once had a neighbor who made cards. Like yours, hers were awesome.

Hi Alex - Have fun at the movies and with your music.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Logan definitely sounds interesting and I have it on my list to try to check out while it is in the theater. Glad to hear you enjoyed it.

Awesome to see Birgit here today! I love her movie posts and her cards. She is so talented. :) I have a million movies on my movies to see list thanks to her. ;)

    Have a great night!

  60. Oh MY...I got NONE of the trivia correct. My ex-husband could have probably gotten them all. He was really into movies!

    ReplyDelete
  61. I'm kind of dreading A to Z just because of that stupid picture thing. And after commenting on a few, it gets worse. Ugh.

I haven't seen Logan. Glad it was a good one. And I know you're stoked for the return of MST3K.

    ReplyDelete
  62. One of my favorite and old time classic movie is also It's A Wonderful Life. I agree with Birgit.

I've been hearing good things about Logan.

    Have a great week, Alex.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Oh my, some of those verifications are so ridiculous!

I do follow Birgit and I like her pretty cards and reading about her movie picks. She introduces me to a lot of interesting movies, and I've even watched a couple after reading her posts about them :)

    ReplyDelete
  64. I always enjoy Birgit's blogs and enjoyed your feature. That was my bowling balls she was talking about by the way. If she is between lost and Albuquerque, I guess I am north of that.

There was a discussion of current movies at the bowling alley, it is amazing the different reactions of people to movies. One guy loved La La Land and hated Midnight. Another girlfriend hated La La Land. And so on...

    ReplyDelete
  65. I haven't seen a first run movie in ages. Now that we have Netflix and a big TV, it seems we see them all after they have been out for a while. So, we have not seen Logan. As for the songs, the first one, in parts, reminded me of Tommy (Who). To my surprise, it was the second one I liked better

    ReplyDelete
  66. Logan sounds fascinating! Enjoyed Birgit's interview, particularly her humour, and the music.

Most heartily dislike the thumbnails the word verification comes up with, very hard on people with feeble eyes like me.

    Have a great week ahead.

    ReplyDelete
  67. I am hoping to see Logan. I have heard good things about it; much like your own review.

Hey Birgit; nice to see you again.

I fail at just about all those captcha's that require thinking. I must be a robot.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Hi Alex - better late than never - I'd thought about seeing Logan - but decided against it now! I've missed Hidden Figures - so need to go to the multiplex on the edge of town ... to see it: more important!

Strange about the verification thing ... I hate those pics ... I guess the A-Z will throw up a couple of wobblies in that direction ... I'll get round it .. cheers Hilary

  69. Ooooooo, I love MST3K, good to hear it's back. And Birgit, I understand, it's my second name so not voiced often, but the times it is, horror, heee heeee heee

    ReplyDelete
  70. Birgit's cards are lovely, but I understand the wish to make something beautiful just because you want to and not have the pressure of doing it for money, so I'm going to leave her be.

    ReplyDelete
  71. That word verification image looks like a nightmare...it's almost as if somebody devises these things to deliberately trick the eyes? I wonder...LOL

    ReplyDelete
  72. I've been pretty burned out on superhero movies but the more I hear about Logan the more interesting it sounds.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Thanks for featuring Birgit! She's awesome.

I've heard good things about Logan as well, though it does sound a bit depressing.

    ReplyDelete
  74. ::very angry man above::

    Moving on...

Logan. I want to see this movie. I also really want to see The Shack. Have you reviewed that one yet???

Glad to see Birgit on this blog. I love her. She is a wonderful person with such creative talent!

    ReplyDelete
  75. I HATE word verification and I get it pretty early on before I hit too many blogs. Blaaaa.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Birgit is one of my favorite bloggers! Such a funny lady and her cards are amazing.

    ReplyDelete
  77. I've seen the trailer for Logan, and I'd probably like it, since I do like the X-men movies. He seems more vicious in the trailer bits than he seemed in the original X-men movies, although he was always 'simmering'. Those cards by Birgit are exceptional, she's too modest.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I hate those squares from blogger! Errr!!!! They take up so much time! I start to get a headache!
I haven't seen Logan yet! Thank you for the great review! I can't wait to see it!
    Beautiful cards from Brigit!
    Take Care Alex!

    ReplyDelete
  79. Haven't seen Logan yet, but I'm definitely interested based on some of the stuff I've heard. Still; might end up waiting for the movie to come out first.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Hey Alex! Thanks so much for the reviews. For sure I'm going to see LOGAN as soon as I can.

    ReplyDelete
  81. As long as I don't see LOGAN, I can pretend both he and Professor X are still alive. It will be a DVD view for me so I can stop it or fast-forward painful scenes. I have had too much grief in my life to want to watch more. Thanks for the review.

  82. I'm still debating whether to watch Logan, because I'm not very good with violence. Maybe will watch it at home later, where I have the chance to walk away for a bit :).

That workshop you linked to sounds amazing. And thanks for featuring Birgit-- I love her blog, and her comments on mine.

  83. Chrys, now that's quite the coincidence!

    Tyrean, close, but too early.

    Jemi, yes they are!

Stephanie, I'm going to find a trivia that you can answer!

Liz, then you know my pain on IWSG day.

Jo, that's why there's a big variety of movies released.

    Rhonda, that's cool!

    Patsy, she will appreciate that.

Charles, it's not your usual superhero film.

Robin, I will delete that one in a second...

DG, he's not the most vicious one in the movie though - the girl is!

    Hi Shelly!

Roland, and there's a lot in that movie.

    Theres, yes it has!

  84. Thank you, thank you, thank you my friend! I would've never known that Mystery Science theater was back on if I didn't read it here! My husband loves loves loves that show! It's like a baby sitter for me! hahahaha Sometimes I'll sit and watch a bit of it, but at least he's out of my hair for the whole thing. It's not just the unrated movies (they have no ratings) that they show it's the comments that they make while they sit at the screening that he loves. It totally cracks him up. I hope they still do it the same way. Woo Hoo Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! Have a great day my friend!!! WOO HOO I can't wait to tell him! bwahahahahahahaha

  85. Hmmm, I don't know about seeing Logan. The Wolverine character is my favorite but I try to avoid dark.

    Have a sunny one, Alex.

  86. I had wondered if Logan was going to be super heavy.

You know, I saw one of those image checks when my husband was trying to verify. He didn't have a happy expression on his face.

  87. I'm sure we'll see Logan. Hubby's such an Xmen fan. Maybe I'll treat him and then he won't mind seeing Beauty & the Beast with me. :D

  88. I'm looking forward to seeing Logan, but then, I'd watch Sir Patrick read the phone book.

    Very nice to meet Birgit.

I didn't know ANY of the trivia movies. *hangs head in shame*

  89. I can't wait to see Logan. I saw someone say it'll make you cry. I don't wanna. lol

  90. Great review on Long. I'm not sure though if it makes me want to see it more or not. Bleak, um, yay? :)

    ReplyDelete
  91. Haven't seen Logan, but a lot of people seem to like it.
    Birgit's cards are quite pretty.
I'll have to give the trivia some thought, but I believe one is Hellboy.
Word verification is a hassle, but I guess it helps with spam.

  92. I can definitely see why some people would avoid repeat viewings of Logan for its heavy plot. However, it sucked me in so profoundly that I'm tempted to go again rather than see Get Out or Kong. It's that good!

  93. Yay - Logan. Yay - Logan. And I'm sooooooo happy MST3K is happening. That show is a national treasure.

  94. Hmm, the more previews I see of Logan the more intrigued I get....
    YOU have a great day.

  95. Hey Alex. Birgit sounds very cool. I'm not good with Superhero movies, but I think #3 is Hellboy? My siblings love Superhero movies with lots of violence and blood, so I might actually enjoy watching Logan with them. They don't like dramatic scenes:) So, it might just be fun and amusing to experience their reactions. Have a great week ahead.

  96. I didn't know Logan was that heavy going. Interesting review.

Great to see Birgit. She's an entertaining character.

I didn't know we had to do puzzles for verification now. Could be, um, fun?

  97. I have yet to see Logan, but plan to when it comes out on video / for rent. I don't get out to theaters much- though one movie I do plan to see in theater is Beauty and the beast :)

  98. Marie, glad to make your day! Hopefully it's as good as the original.

Sandra, it is dark all right.

Loni, don't tell him but I feel vindicated.

Donna, afraid I'll have to skip that one now.

    LD, so would I!!!

Deb, my wife was almost sobbing at the end.

Mark, bleak but really, really good.

    Toi, correct!

John, I will watch it at least one more time. But have to see Skull Island!

    Leslie, it is!

Sandra, hope YOU had a great day!

Murees, yes! And I like your twisted thinking.

    Nick - sorry, no fun.

Kane, passing on that one now.

  99. I'll definitely be into seeing Logan. Thanks for the recommendation!

    Yay for MST3k!

    Birgit's guest post was hilarious!

Very weird about the blogger-security pic. Who thinks these things up??

  100. Birgit's cards are very pretty!

Logan sounds like a good movie. It sounds like there's a lot of depth to the characters.

  101. We went to see Logan, and it is truly engaging. Not the superhero or the young angry Wolverine, but a man looking back and then forward. The directing and editing was excellent.

It makes me sad, and yet it draws closure.

  102. I'm impressed with your review of Logan, Alex. Usually these movies, as you say, emphasize action and the super powers. If this one emphasizes the depths of the characters, then I want to see it.

Birgit's comment that her favorite movie is It's a Wonderful Life really touched a chord with me. I had just been talking with someone about how we all need to have a purpose in our lives, and how we touch other people's lives far more than we realize, so we really should try to be good and kind to them.

  103. Happy Weekend, Alex! What movie did you see?

    ReplyDelete
  104. Getting around a little late, I know! It has become impossible to be on my computer in the lobby because so many people stop to talk. I'm back to using our sink as a desk because I can pick up the guest internet in the bathroom. LOL I enjoyed your review on "Logan" and want to see it. Thanks for the info on the writing group. Enjoy your weekend!

  105. Lexa, evil people.

    Susan, yes it does.

Helena, go see it. A very different kind of superhero film.

Sandra, we saw Skull Island. Good but not great.

Fundy, blogging from the bathroom - funny!

  106. My love for the "old" Mystery Science Theatre 3000 knows no bounds. I'm almost fearful to watch a re-make.

And I'm totally with Birgit on her fave movie pick! It's A Wonderful Life is a fave in my house and we don't start Christmas without it.

    ReplyDelete
  107. I've heard lots of good things about "Logan", but for some reason, I'm just not compelled to go see it, though I think that's more about my recent issues than the movie. >_< Good to hear again that it's worth seeing, though, and I might still get around to it.

    ReplyDelete
  108. I've been a little skeptical about Logan, so glad to hear a good review on it. Hope you're doing well, Alex. =-)

  109. I love Birgit, her movie reviews and cards!!! Thank you for having her as your guest.

  110. No, have not seen Logan yet.
Ohhhh, RiffTrax is doing the Five Doctors!
I certainly want to see that one.
Good to hear MST3K is back.
Hope all is well with you.
