A to Z Challenge – Z – Cult Classics: Rob Zombie, Zap Gun, and More! Plus may Preview – San Andreas, Challenge Reflection Post, IWSG, and Ninja News

Last day of the Challenge – we did it!

A to Z Challenge– Cult Classics –Z
Movies-Music-Sci-fi Book-Bloggers-Dragon Term

Movie –

Zardoz
This bizarre post-apocalyptic film was written, produced, and directed by John Boorman in 1974. It features star Sean Connery in the worst outfit ever.

Music –

Rob Zombie – Hellbilly Deluxe
His best-selling album to date, Rob’s first solo album away from White Zombie went Triple Platinum. Giving homage to horror films, the album featured such hits as Dragula and Living Dead Girl.

Science Fiction Book –

The Zap Gun by Philip K. Dick
This 1967 novel was originally published as a serial and was one of his earliest works.

Blogger –

PK Hrezo
Want to follow someone who is multi-talented in writing and in art? Follow someone with a genuine heart, compassion, and passion for what is right? Then you need to be following author PK!

Dragon of the Stars Term –

Zeal
Defined at ‘great energy or enthusiasm in pursuit of a cause or an objective.’ While Aden’s pursuit of a command and the queen’s daughter is more dogged and methodical, Ensign Pavott’s pursuits are more heartfelt and passionate.

Dragon of the Stars is out now!
Check out the site What Are the Kargrandes? for clues as to how they tie into the story.

Director: Brad Peyton

Fissures will open, buildings will crumble, and pecs will jiggle.

Have you suffered through Zardoz? Fan of Rob Zombie? Ready for the IWSG next week? Signed up for the blogfest? Going to see San Andreas? And how do you feel about the end of the Challenge…?
(I am BEAT! I’ll be taking Friday OFF and enjoying Avengers: Age of Ultron and some time with my wife. Catch up with comments on Saturday.)

And if you missed it, yesterday I visited Janice Hardy’s Fiction University and discussed the pros and cons of small presses.

136 comments:

  1. I have nightmares of Zardoz, enjoy Rob Zombie's solo stuff and my secret love for Alexandra Daddario... please don't tell her. lol

It's been a long month, lots of hellos and new friends.

"Z" we made it... thank you!

    Congratulations on number 6.

    Yvonne.

  3. Hi Alex - the Z things I know (as usual) none of .. but PK I've known a while ... and then time off for everyone - enjoy Friday and the Avengers film .. but more importantly time with your wife.

Reedsy sounds an interesting site - and I'll be checking that out as well. Zeal is an excellent word - something we all have and can have - a great attribute .. cheers Hilary

  4. You did it.
    Congratulations!

I don't remember when I saw Zardoz. But I know that I did not want to see it again.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Oh, yes, time for a break. Just in time to see the Avengers!! I'll see you next Wednesday:)

    ReplyDelete
  6. I've read PK's work, but I'm not familiar with the other Z items you mentioned.

    ReplyDelete
  7. After that comment about Sean's "work outfit" I had to Google some images. *gag* Yep. Worst outfit. Even worse than Keira Knightly's painful-looking one King Arthur.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Rob Zombie and Zardoz - what a way to end the challenge! We made it. :)

    ReplyDelete
  9. Jeremy, number one! And Zardoz would cause anyone nightmares.

    Hilary, I will enjoy Friday.

    Edi, I don't blame you.

Donna, I warned you it was bad!

    ReplyDelete
  10. And so the Internet lets out a big sigh now that the Challenge is over…and you guys can get some rest. Congrats!

Wow, IWSG time already? Where did this month go, Alex?

Rob Zombie turned out to be a great producer in addition to a cool musician.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Loved the challenge, but so glad it's done. Will be nice to see my family again.

    ReplyDelete
  12. San Andreas could be fun, or it could just be a lot of special effects. Enjoy your day off tomorrow :)

    ReplyDelete
  13. I don't know any of your Z's except PK. Congrats on making it through.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Nope, I don't know any of them either but have come across P.K. Hezro before this.

I like Ensign Pavott. Nice young lady. Have a good rest Alex, you certainly deserve it. I already have a post up for Friday and Saturday. My Z blog had the wrong time on it so didn't post til late today.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Oh wow! Hard to believe it's Z already. For me, probably not for the A-Zers. Enjoy your break, Alex. All of you deserve it.

    ReplyDelete
  16. This - "pecs will jiggle" - made me laugh. :)

Congrats on finishing A-Z, Alex! Enjoy your Friday!

    ReplyDelete
  17. I'm not really a fan of his but I have listened to some Rob Zombie in my day. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  18. How dare you, sir! Sean Connery can do no wrong!

    ReplyDelete
  19. Zippity doo dah...Cheers!!

Funny, now we can drink a White Zombie-lol. I don't dare drink one and watch Rob's movie-do I?

Captain-you all need to celebrate! Awesome, bravo, and cheers!!!

    ReplyDelete
  20. I LOVE Hellbilly Deluxe! Such a great album.

Here we are at the end of another challenge.

    Ready for next year? ;)

  21. Unfamiliar with all the Zs. But I really want to write a book starting with Z, just so I've got a chance to be featured in the future - I think there's a gap in the market :-)

    ReplyDelete
  22. Who can forget Rob Zombie. Now I have to check out Zardoz, if only to suffer with the rest of you. And yes, I've worked with PK Herzo....wonderful talent.

Congrats on your A-Z challenge. Your theme was one of my favorites.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I'd love to see San Andreas. My brother just had me watch a trailer for it a few days ago and I think it looks cool. Unfortunately I'm REALLY behind on my movies and the frequency with which the good ones are coming out isn't going to slow down anytime soon. Don't know when I'll get around to this one. :/

    ReplyDelete
  24. The Challenge wasn't difficult for me this year in getting the posts up, but a big fail in visiting other blogs. There are just so many of them!! I'll see San Andreas when it's available to me. We lived there when it hit and our family has some pretty intense memories of that earthquake. Weird title though--not very exciting.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Congratulations, now you can resume the other activities you dropped, like eating, sleeping and such. ;) Pk, it's been ages since last time I visited. Should drop by one of these days.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I can safely say I have NEVER heard of that movie, book, or album. I need to check out more cult stuff, I think I'm too mainstream!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Elise, not to mention a great producer of Halloween celebrations at theme parks.

    Jo, thanks.

Madeline, I am here to amuse!

Tony, Google it. I dare you.

    Tim, at the moment, no!

    Annalisa, clever idea.

    Dean, thanks!

Liesel, we're hitting the summer movies now so prepare for an onslaught.

    Karen, that's scary.

Al, not sure what I was doing before the Challenge...

    ReplyDelete
  28. Yay! You've made it through the Challenge. You've had a big month. Take more than a day to rest. :) Zardoz, hehehe! I'm ready for IWSG next week. Have a great weekend, Alex, and enjoy the flick!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Philip K. Dick is my favorite sci fi author. I'll read anything he writes. And Rob Zombie makes me happy. Congrats for making it to the end Alex! It was a GREAT year.

    ReplyDelete
  30. It's hard to believe April is almost over. And I'm still snickering at your snarky comment about that movie.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Another great finish to the A to Z!! I was sorry to sit on the sidelines this year, but always eager to see your posts, Alex. You've definitely earned a rest.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Wow, haven't heard of that movie at all. Rob Zombie is alright, but I wouldn't say I'm a fan. San Andreas looks awesome, though. Happy Z!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I'm not a Rob Zombie fan, but it looks as though I should be. I wouldn't want to be his enemy.

Is it really over? And we have IWSG next Wed? Oy vey.

Awesome job as always, Alex. You're the best of the best.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Great Zs! I don't know much about Rob Zombie except didn't he do a remake of Halloween? Or was it Friday the 13th? Darned if I can keep track of that stuff!

We're moving Saturday so I've been doing A to Z amid great chaos. I feel like I'm on a treadmill, racing to keep up with everyone's blogs! I'll be SO glad when everyone stops posting daily so I can keep up. I'm back to M, W, F after this.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Pecs will jiggle . . . LOL - if you've seen Journey 2: The Mysterious Island - you'll have a TMI insight on the Rock's pec jiggling abilities - thankfully, he was making fun of himself. I think I'll pass on San Andreas.

I'm hoping to see The Avengers . . . but I'm not sure if it will be this weekend or next.

Happy End to A to Z and I hope you have a wonderful weekend off!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Congratulations on another A-Z Blast of blogging delight and stress :)

Kudos to you and your co-hosts - spectacular job well done.

Looking forward to next year :)

    ReplyDelete
  37. I feel so special. Thanks, Alex!
Plus I'm in the same blog post with Rob Zombie---awesome. :)

Got ISWG on the calendar for next week.
Th BBC blog fest sounds like a riot!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Zardoz and Gargoyles are my two favorite cult/B Movies.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Heres to the Galaxies greatest Ninjas. Congratulations to everyone who survived to the end.

I've heard of Zardoz and keep meaning to watch it, one more for the bucket wish list, Still so many cool blogs to visit - here I come!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Lauren, we want you happy!

    Cherie, I aim to amuse.

    Thanks, Patricia.

    Thanks, Robyn!

Stephanie, he's directed a lo of films. And I agree - everyone posting daily has been draining.

Tyrean, I've not seen that one.

    Thanks, Mark!

PK, you're welcome. And the blogfest should be a blast.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Zap ZZ Top and we're done. Very fun A to Z. Thanks

    ReplyDelete
  42. YAY!!!
    Looks like we MADE it!

    ALEX!

Great theme. Great books. Great music. Great bloggers! Great information! Great sharing! Great ... everything!

I'm so glad to be a part of this Challenge with you guys *wipes tear* and honored!

Rob Zombie's music FOCKS! But, his movies look too scary to me.

    PK is pretty awesome too!

Yes, I will probably watch that earthquake movie, but on DVD.
    :)

Have a great A2 weekend! We shall discuss later.

    Heather

    ReplyDelete
  43. I really enjoyed all of your posts during the A-Z Alex. This challenge was the hardest one of all for me to finish, but we did it. Woo hoo.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I'd like to read the book by Philip K. Dick. The movie and music, not so interested in.

Thank you, Alex, for visiting me. Every. Single. Day! I, on the other hand, have not done nearly so well and am ready for the challenge to be finished

    ReplyDelete
  45. Thank you for the shout out, Alex!

    ReplyDelete
  46. I saw Zardoz at the movie theater not long after it was released. I don't remember a single thing about it which I guess is apparently a good thing.

Got jolted by a small earthquake this morning and got kind of startled. I'd rather just keep San Andrea a movie experience and not real life.

Congrats on finishing the A-Z, although I never doubted you would. Me? Yes.

    See you Monday.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Thanks, Spacerguy!

Heather!! Glad you enjoyed it. I really enjoyed your trip down X-Files memory lane. We're done. Put a fork in us.

Thanks, Jaybird - we did it!

    Bish, no worries.

    Ted, you're welcome.

Lee, wow! What a way to wake up.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I had never even heard of the movie but now I'm terribly curious...
Congrats on making it through the Challenge!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Congratulations on reaching the end of the challenge. Hope you manage a few quieter days to reflect and catch up.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Nice job finishing the challenge! I love that you used "Zombie" for "Z"
    Nice job!

Hey, BTW, Dragon of The Stars was delivered a few days ago and my husband and I were admiring the cover art. Very nice 3D image! It makes me excited to read the book!!

    ReplyDelete
  52. It's a little sad the challenge is over, but it's time to get back to work. I'll be there for IWSG, A to Z reflections, and the Carnage Blogfest. See ya around!

    ReplyDelete
  53. I haven't heard of the movie, San Andreas, but I guess I'd better see it. I live on the San Andreas fault. Seriously. Right on it. I can see the fault line from my property. I also had the lovely experience of it shatter just about everything glass in my house in '89. I could have written about that quake with great emotion.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Poor Sean in Zardoz. What were they thinking? San Andreas. Wow, another turkey for poor Dwayne Johnson. Spend some time with your poor wife!
    :-)

    ReplyDelete
  55. So glad you didn't do Zappa. My husband LOVES LOVES LOVES Zappa. I have a very differing opinion. ;) Congrats on making it to Z!

    ReplyDelete
  56. I'll have to check out the book with Ted Cross's story in. Never heard of the music or movie you featured today. Not going to see that movie either, probably not even on video.
I'm going to get some yard work done this weekend since the challenge if over. It really went fast.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I'm still considering that blogfest.

Congrats on finishing the A to Z!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Oh God-Zardoz-hahahaaaa. I think Sean Connery doesn't want to be reminded of that one. I don't know your other pics for music or books. I love the blurbs you have been giving about your book:) As for the new film-I will wait for video. I heard they may stall the opening due to the horrible earthquake in Nepal. I am dead tired and will take time to reboot as well and create some cards. I miss my craft room:)

    ReplyDelete
  59. I've never heard of Reedsy. Thanks for sharing that!

And thanks for all your hard work for the Challenge. Congrats on another great year.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Not a fan of the entries listed her for Z but it's been a fun month stopping by and checking out your highlights.
Looking forward to additional postings from you.
    Keep on bloggin'!

    ReplyDelete
  61. Finally, I can go back to being one of the only ones who posts everyday lol

Avengers 2 I`ll be seeing tomorrow at 1.

    ReplyDelete
  62. congrats on finishing the challenge! loved your posts--enjoy some time off and enjoy the Avengers!

Lauren, awesome! Thanks for purchasing it.

    Tamara, awesome.

    Lee, that's rather frightening...

    Roland, I will!

    Rosey, my opinion matches yours.

    Robin, join us!

Birgit, go work on some cards this weekend.

Jeffrey, I will try to continue to amuse and entertain!

    Pat, you can have it!

    Thanks, Beth!

  64. I definitely need to work on my Z movies. I haven't seen any of these.

You deserve some time off. Enjoy your A movie! We're looking forward to seeing that one, too.

  65. It has been fun, but I am definitely ready for a break and some Avengers :) Congrats on finishing the A to Z, you've been a great co-host!

    ReplyDelete
  66. Wow if Sean Connery was in it and I've never heard of it it must be bad.

Rob Zombie is from my home town and the town sign even says so.

    Congratulations on completing the challenge.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Reedsy sounds like a very helpful site. I haven't seen any of the movies, though it would be fun to see Sean Connery in the worst costume ever! Thanks for being such a phenomenal A to Z co-host, Alex! You really know how to make everyone feel special, and I can't thank you enough! Hope you get some much needed rest this weekend.

    Julie

    ReplyDelete
  68. It's been a great month, and you have completed another full and successful A to Z. Congrats on surviving the challenge! :)

    ReplyDelete
  69. I really enjoyed the A to Z challenge!

    ReplyDelete
  70. I remember renting Zardoz, but I must have suppressed the memory of actually watching it. And that's saying a lot, because I still remember Highlander 2.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I'll be taking some zzzz's with Millie and Willie. I'll bet you're exhausted, too! Good work. I ordered your book for my son for his birthday.

    ReplyDelete
  72. Congrats on completing the challenge!

Laughed out loud at your comment on San Andreas. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  73. Zombies are spooky. I don't much care for them. The challenge has been fun. Now I'm ready for a nap.
Congrats on finishing A to Z.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Thanks, Elizabeth!

    KAT, that's really cool.

Thanks, Julie. I did my best.

    Andrew, this was far worse...

Mary, thank you! I appreciate that.

    Misha, I aim to amuse.

    ReplyDelete
  75. The post I had in mind for the May IWSG was repurposed and scheduled for another date, since the issue it addresses actually turned out to be anything but a challenge and something I felt insecure about. I'll be using the post I'd originally intended for April.

Thanks for co-hosting the Challenge! It was a lot of hard work for everyone involved.

    ReplyDelete
  76. I think I'd watch that movie just to laugh at Sean Connery's outfit.
Congrats on finishing, Alex. Time for a break, right?

  77. The Challenge was a lot of work, this year more so than others, so I'm relieved it's over.

But I'll also really miss all the engagement, and all the great people I met. I hope we can stay in touch after this month.

    ReplyDelete
  78. And pecs will jiggle, I'm laughing now. I loved the bizarre-ness of Zardoz, mainly because of it being the first film he could choose to be in without someone telling him he couldn't! He was so controlled in the beginning of his career, and this was made after he was a "name" and could do whatever he wanted, and he wanted to do this, silly, crazy freaky movie! Loved that. Thanks for coming by my blog Ninja Captain. So nice to have you so often! See you during reflections and IWSG, I'm sure! Lisa, co-host AtoZ 2015, @ http://www.lisabuiecollard.com

    ReplyDelete
  81. Thanks for mentioning Good Book Alert. I feel great about the end of A to Z since I made it this time. This may have improved my ability to blog.

I will have to read The Zap Gun...someday.

  87. I don't get Zardoz. It's like watching a movie in a completely different language. Things are happening, but I have no idea what's going on.

    ReplyDelete
  88. How I feel about the challenge: I can breathe!!!! ;) But it will be sad because there is a brotherhood in it! We've forged new friendships and rekindled old.

  91. Oh yeah, kinda glad to see the back end of April...

    ReplyDelete

  94. Well you made it through another year. Congratulations! I didn't make it by for every post, but I did manage to hit some of the highlights. Still appreciate you shouting me out on your 'F' post, it is quite an honor being one of your 'Cult Classics'.

Now as for today's post - ah Zardoz, unfotunately I know it well! I was first forced to endure this one at a small 'Art' Theater in Aspen, CO. You know, come to think of it this could be a great example for your upcoming, Boobs, Blood and Carnage Hop. /who could ever forget the memorable and oft quoted line 'The penis is evil, the gun is good.' Think on that one for awhile.

Also, tomorrow is Battle of the Bands, since you'll be suffering A to Z 'let down' and have nothing to do, why not join us?

Another great year off to the happy hunting ground of the A to Z thingy!

    ReplyDelete
  95. Ooh, ooh, may have to see San Andreas.

    ReplyDelete

  96. Sean Connery in the worst outfit ever

Zadoz, did not see it before. May take a relook. Had registered with Reedsy. It may help later!

    Hank

    ReplyDelete
  97. I don't know about Zardoc, but I've definitely suffered through the Challenge... my poor brain has no clue what's going on!!

Enjoy your day off... I'm taking at least 10 days.

    I may never be back!!

    ReplyDelete
  98. We made it to z!!!! (And shared the same ending word!) Never seen the movie and don't own the album though I'm familiar with both the hit songs from it.

Way behind on visiting PK, planning to reflect and all signed up for the B,B & C!

    Yay!

    ReplyDelete
  99. I've seen pictures of Sean Connery in that godawful Zardoz costume, hence I've never been able to watch the movie.

Love the "pecs will jiggle" comment.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Another year comes to an end. Well for almost everyone. I am a blog post or two behind. I will be all caught up by tomorrow. I already follow PK and love her blog. I am also a huge fan of Janice Hardy so I will head over now and read your interview. Sorry I missed it, but every free moment i've had has been devoted to this challenge. As alway, I've made tons of new friends and found many new blogs to visit after the challenge.

    ReplyDelete
  101. I'm not too familiar with all the Z's, except for Rob Zombie. Yay for finishing the challenge.

I need to think of an IWSG post.

    ReplyDelete
  102. I got nothing with the Z's - good thing they are at the end ;)

I'll be seeing Avengers tomorrow night, too!!

  104. That was a GREAT article over at Fiction University.

PK is my sistah from anothah mistah!

  105. Well I was wrong - expected a music Z that was either Led Zeppelin OR ZZ Top, but then my taste is weird.

Even seen Zardoz a few times as Boorman has buried some weird but crafty bits in there... like the name Zardoz, the flying head, and all that Oz thread. Reminds me of other Brit psychedelic films. But Connery's costume was nappy ridiculous.

  111. Congrats on the A-Z challenge and Zardoz is beyond bizarre. Even the director admitted he didn't know what he was doing. LOL Cult movies was a great theme and I learned about a lot of books I need to read.

  121. Oh Zombies, that's a good one Alex! I'm such a mythological nut I went with Zeus. hehehe It sure was fun, but it's over now I hope that doesn't stop you from popping over now and then, and maybe you could even follow me in my linky followers. I've been trying to get that number up like forever. When I switched over I lost all my followers. :( Anyway have a great weekend, and thank you once again for all your comments. 124. Hey Alex!

I'm going to subject myself to a bit of Rob Zombie music. That would be after I stopped listening to an Australian band named, Pendulum.

Well done on finishing the amazing, gosh darn fun, alphabet thingy. Oh, wait, here's to the next eleven months of your alphabet abyss reflection posts.

I shall be signing up for the Non-blogfest, blogfest.

All the best and enjoy the rest of the weekend, my illustrious friend.

  125. I'd forgotten about Zardoz, wonder if Mr. Connery has. Which reminds me, haven't seen much of him lately. Can't imagine the movie world without him. Great job of the challenge, Alex. You blew it out of the water.
