Big Hero 6 Movie Review, Robot Movie Trivia, the Power of Friendship, and Ninja News

Big Hero 6 Movie Review

Five geeks and one personal medical assistant robot make for an unlikely bunch of heroes.

This film is all heart. It has a very gentle spirit and solid relationships among the characters. Love your family and stick by your friends is a great message.

The animation is the best so far this year. You don’t want to miss it in 3D.

The humor is spot on. Robot Baymax steals the show, both with his actions and words. (‘We jumped out a window!’ is one of the best.) Fred the fanboy also has some great lines.

The story is fresh, fun, and original. (Except for a device that looks like the Stargate, but we can let that slide.) Set in San Fransokyo, it’s a blend of high tech, America, and the Orient, and it’s dazzling to behold.

Considering the lack of competition this year, Big Hero 6 will likely win the Oscar for best animated film. Take the family and enjoy. Highly recommended!

The Power of Friends

I’m part of a special group of people, the Fellowship of the Dragon. We have a private blog where we keep one another on track with our goals and we email daily quotes of encouragement. (There is also a fair amount of good-natured bantering that goes back and forth.)

One of our members was in need recently. The rest of us conspired to help and came up with a plan. In secret (and with the help of two other bloggers) we pooled money together to help this person. It was a complete surprise and from what I understand, will cover the cost of what this person needed.

The power of friendship is amazing. I feel blessed to be a part of this group. Most of us have never met, but we pulled together to help another member and trusted one person to send the money. And we did it without question because the person in need had touched all of us and been an amazing friend.

And that’s what it takes sometimes – one person to pull together many. One friend who has everyone’s back, who stands against the enemies, who is the champion, and who goes above and beyond every time.

I’m blessed to have the Fellowship of the Dragon, along with the A to Z Co-Host Team, the IWSG Admins and members, and a great group of blogging friends. (Along with a couple great groups of friends offline.)

Do you have friends like that?

Have you seen Big Hero 6? Participating in the Realms Faire? Fan of the awesome Pat Hatt? Know any of the trivia? And do you have a group of friends that pull together for one another…?

  1. Am I first?

The Realms Faire is ROCKING! I've already won some books there. My TBR has toppled over---------
Pat is our very own Dr. Seuss!

It seems like online friendships prove to be just as powerful, if not more powerful in some cases, than real-life ones...

  2. Hi Alex - yes the Realms Faire is rocking as Michelle says and I won too; I've spotted Pat and been over .. looking forward to tomorrow to see who's who in the A-Z team ...

Friends are desperately important at all times - internet friends too - as we understand a different way of life ..

    Cheers Hilary

  3. I'm second :)

Aren't Huey, Dewey, and Louie ducks?

As for friends, I am in an amazing critique group, but I also have several on-line friends that are just as close. In-fact, one of the many highlights of our world travel was meeting some of my on-line friends.

  4. The Fellowship of the Dragon sounds like a really close group--wonderful that you all pulled together like that.

Big Hero 6 looks like one to go see!

  5. How awesome you're part of that group. I don't have an online group like that but I do have friends I can rely on.

  6. That sounds like a great group to be a part of. It's good that you were able to help your friend.

  7. Michelle, you're first! And he is like Dr. Seuss.

Rhonda, they are ducks - and robots. And that's cool you've met so many online friends.

  9. I just took the kids to see Big Hero Six at the Drive-in the other night--we all loved it.

  10. I think Eve was in Wall.E.

I won lots of books at Realms Faire.

I too am a membership of the Fellowship of the Dragon and also think our friendships there are wonderful. I was also a member of a cooking group for years and we are still all very close friends, some of whom I have met face to face. Internet friendships are as close as any made away from the cyber world and I love being part of such groups of wonderful people

  11. I can't wait to see Big Hero 6. My little guy wants to see it, so we'll go to the theatre one cold November afternoon and enjoy it. Thanks for the review! Realms Faire has been awesome so far. The online community is fantastic. And my close group of friends, I wouldn't be able to get by without them. :)

  12. The power of friendship is a great gift and there are those that work silently in the backdrop. Weaving dreams for others one thread at a time as we are all connective in the universe. The stronger the thread the stronger the web..jmo..

Once upon a time in a land far away a lady with hair as black as the night roamed the forest of dreams searching for the troubadour of song. Keeping with the knights theme..

    Wishing you a great day..

  13. What a cool thing you were able to do for a friend. Definitely a powerful force at work whenever friends come together for a good cause. :)

  14. My old friends are far away and I've lost touch with many of them other than occasional Facebook glimpses. Don't really hang out with people from church, but I guess they'd be around in times of need.

These days most of my contacts are online.

  26. Time sure flies! Is it weird that I already picked my A-Z Challenge theme?

As for the trivia, these are the ones I remembered off the top of my head.

    #1 Saturn 3
    #3 Short Circuit
    #6 Silent Running
    #7 WALL-E

Silent Running is a nostalgic movie for me. I remember staying up late when I was little and watching it with my dad. I love a good robot movie!

  33. I love my church family so much because whenever another member is in need, we shoot out an e-mail and we can usually get the need met immediately. Everyone is willing to help. Whether it's someone who needs a babysitter or a ride to the doctor, or something more immediate or monetary. It's amazing what a supportive group of people, full of love for one another, can accomplish!!!

    ReplyDelete
  34. PS - I am a big fan of Pat Hatt no doubt about that ;)

    ReplyDelete
  35. Thanks for the review of Big Hero 6. We tried to see it yesterday, along with everyone else in town. :( There's always next week.

    ReplyDelete
  36. We'll be seeing Big Hero 6 in 3D this weekend. Glad I never grew up as I still love pretty much all animated movies. Cars II was a real stinker though. Still haven't been able to watch more than ten minutes of it.

I have Ted's book and am about 40 pages into it. I like its only about 150-160 pages.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I think that's amazing Alex. I have friends that would do something like that, and it means more than anything in the world to have people like that. I'm so glad they have friends like that too.

I loved Big Hero 6! It was excellent.

  38. I am a fan of Pat and I can't tell you how many times my sons watched Johnny 5 on video.

  40. That's so sweet, Alex! I love the way you were all able to help your friend! I do love a happy ending.

I don't know what I would do without this community. Especially the NINJA!

I'm still voting for you at the other site, but don't put me in for the prizes. You know I own all your stuff! :)

    1 - Hector (1980)
    2 - Fembots (1997) - Austin Powers
    3 - Johnny 5 (1986) - Short Circuit
    4 - Pris (1980)

  46. LOVED Big Hero 6.
It was a little predictable (it hit all the beats you'd expect it to) and we also were like "that's a stargate" but even with those complaints it was fantastic and i cried a lot

    ReplyDelete
  47. Big Hero was great. Between that and The Lego Movie, it'll be a tough Oscar race (meaning I'm good if either of them win it).

While alive, brother. While alive. :)

    ReplyDelete
  48. I really liked Big Hero 6, but I also thought it was missing something. I don't know what. Maybe it was just too predictable for me, which killed any anticipation. However, I did watch my kids make all the correct wrong turns while watching it, so that was kind of cool.

What are these friends things you speak of?

    ReplyDelete
  49. Ummm
    Austin Powers

    Juliana, you're welcome.

    Al, maybe you don't jest...?

Sarah, the second it appeared, my wife said the same thing - it's the Stargate.

Andrew, a day later, and I'm already forgetting the movie. But it was fun.

Pat, got five! And if I was doing television shows, Andy would be there.

  52. I'm so glad I came here for the warm fuzzy feel of friendship. I just visited Stephanie Faris and found out Cosby was a rapist- though I am tending to think someone is lying. I mean Bill Cosby is awesome, he can't be a bad guy.

Anyhow, good to know there are some heroes who will never let you down!

  64. This is the 2nd review that is very positive! friendship is always needed especially that we choose our friends. It is so wonderful to hear how you all came together for your friend and I am certain that friend was speechless and so very grateful. I can only hope that my friends will be there. i can not speak for them only me and I am always there when needed. Pat is very funny and I know Austin powers for the fembots and Vincent sounds so familiar but can't place it. No Robbie the Robot??:)

  72. Good to know that "Big Hero 6" was good - it looks like fun, but something about it just doesn't draw me in. I'm sure I'll see it eventually.

And that's well and truly awesome that y'all pulled together to help your friend and fellow Dragon. ^_^ For all the crap and hate that's out there online, the internet has also enabled people who would never meet IRL to find each other, come together, and do amazing things or just be the greatest friends. It's incredible what happens here sometimes.

Trivia!: Fembots are from "Austin Powers", Johnny 5 is from "Short Circuit", Dot Matrix is from "Spaceballs", and V.I.N.C.E.N.T. is from "The Black Hole". That's all I know.

  73. Friendship is truly powerful! I don't have an online association like that (or at least not a super tight knit one like that), but I do have some good off-line friendships, my family is awesome, and my church cell group rocks.
I'm glad you have the Dragon group, and all those others. :)

I would love to see Big Hero . . . but we'll see how it all works out this month.

  74. Why do I feel like Big Hero 6 is going to wind up winning the Oscar over The Wind Rises purely for being the animated movie the judges decided to watch?

  77. Thanks to you, Alex, I now want to see Big Hero 6. I'm impressed with how the best animated films appeal to adults too.

The Fellowship of the Dragon sounds awesome. If it weren't for my friends, I really don't think I'd be around or alive or anything, and I am always moved by how many kind and supportive strangers I've met online. A few have become cyber friends, and I really do trust them.

  81. Oh no, I'm late to the Faire! I have a lot of catching up to do. I'll also have to see what Pat's cooked up. It's wonderful what your private blog group has done! I've also made some close connections through blogging, and I'm very glad to have met you, Alex.

Which means, your wait for another one of my highly sought after comments is over.

I have been observing Realms Faire, it's Faire to say. Pat in the Hatt and his crazy cats.

How about an "Oh please never blog again" blog hop. Ah my snarkiness is returning.

My group of friends that pull together for each other lie beyond my computer screen.

I am thankful every day for the people I have met through the blogosphere. I have many several of them and they are all treasured friends.

This summer I was fortunate to meet Julie Pick and see Nicki Elson again. One thing I will miss when I move back to NY next year. But then I will be able to meet wonderful blogger who live in the NE.

Gary, we have missed your snarkiness.

Thanks, Michael! And you'll have opportunities to meet so many more bloggers now.

  99. I got to watch Big Hero 6 the other day and haven't stopped raving about it. It really should win some awards.

  100. I saw the trailer of Big Hero 6. Definitely want to see the movie this week. I did not expect you to be an animation movie fan :)

  101. Impressive book cover, Ted Cross!
And yes, I'm in Untethered Realms, which has been so good in multiple ways. We discuss thorny publishing issues, run our first draft blurbs by each other and much more.

  102. Of course I'm a fan of the awesome Pat Hatt!! One of my best blogging buddies.

Alex, I saw Interstellar last Saturday and was blown away!!

I wish you a wonderful weekend sir.

  103. Whoa! Ted's book looks fantastic. Looking for some reading this weekend and his fits the bill.

Sidebar: Typing with Hand, Foot, and Mouth disease just does not work. Painful fingertips, like so sensitive turning a page in a magazine was cringe-worthy, kept me from the computer and writing. My advice for every author, KEEP THOSE YOUNG'UNS WHO MIGHT HARBOR THE AILMENT AWAY.

Okay. Done ranting against my innocent little grandson. :D

  104. Oh my gosh, is it time to start thinking about the A to Z already? Seems like we just did that!

  105. Now I'm so excited to see "Big Hero 6"! I love kids' animation like Ice Age and Wall-E. So adorable!

Congrats to Juliana and Ted on their new releases - both covers are excellent!

    Guessing:
    1. War Games
    2. Austin Powers
    3. Dang it - Elizabeth Shue was in it and it had a silly two-word name. OH! Short Circuit!!
    4. Demon Seed (weird movie where woman gets impregnated by a house/robot...)
    5. Tron
    7. Eve of Destruction
    8. War Games
    (Yes I know I answered 1 & 8 the same. Haha!)

We love you, too, Alex! Have a great weekend! :)

  106. I have a group that helps each other writing wise. Your group sounds awesome.

  107. Amanda, I'm sure it will!

Rachna, I like computer graphics and go see most of the films.

    Catherine, that's an awesome group.

Keith, it was rather amazing, wasn't it?

    Huntress, that's why I don't have kids...

    Lexa, you got two right...

  108. Unselfish friends make awesome friendships. My best friends are all family or writers I met online, but maybe now that we're going to stay in one place, that will change.

Oh, my, I haven't watched enough movies to know the Robots. Can't be 2001 --that was Hal. But who was the killer bot in a movie with Farah Fawcett?

    ReplyDelete
  109. Ooops. I haven't been to Mary's Realm Faire yet, darn it. (I'm not nearly as good at juggling a bazillion things at once as the Ninja Captain and Pat.)

That movie sounds good. It's gotten so my hubby and I are bigger fans of some of the animated flicks than our grandkids are.

Yes, I have some friends like that, too. Thank goodness. They make life a little bit sweeter.

  110. That's wonderful that your group was able to pull together to help out the person who needed assistance.

Pat's a very active blogger and I am happy to see him featured.

I haven't seen Big Hero 6, but I've heard of it. What did you think of the movie's soundtrack/score?

  111. Congratulations for this great group, The Power of Friends is a great gift!

  112. A great movie and some books for me to check out. :)

I love it when people stand by my side. Friends and a strong support group mean so much.

  113. my kids loved the movie! it was fun!

  114. Sher, you know the answer without knowing the answer...

Susan, nothing wrong with being an anime fan.

  115. Big Hero sounds fun.

It is great to have friends like that! I feel blessed to be a part of the Ninja Army. I've "met" so many wonderful people.

  116. I was back and forth at the Realms Faire last week. Haven't checked my email lately, so I don't know if I won anything yet. I should probably do that. LOL.

    I do have a very, very special little group of online friends that are near and dear to my heart. I would do anything I could for them and I think they would for me too. {{{{FOTD}}}}

Aside from my daughter, a little family and one or two close friends, I don't have anyone that I trust that much. It's a shame, really.

  117. The Big Hero preview looked heartwarming, but I was more in the mood for brutal and disenchanted. So I streamed Snowpiercer.

  118. Wasn't Train Your dragon 2 out this year? That might give BH6 some competition. Or maybe not, haven't seen either yet. BH6 looks pretty cool from trailers, though.

  119. I'm gonna take your word for it on 'Big Hero' cause I'm pretty sure I'll be drug to see it over the Holidays.

I was encouraged to go and see 'Interstellar' and was highly disappointed. Man it was loaded with plot holes, really big ones. It seemed to me that they figured all the special effects would make up for a story that just never came together, at least for me.

Robot Trivia - no way Jose!

  120. I want to see Big Hero 6. It looks like a great movie. I've read several of the Realms Faire posts on Nicki Elson's page. They're a lot of fun. =)

Very cool what you and the Fellowship of the Dragons did. Friends are a blessing and I'm sure the person appreciated it.

  121. Yep, I am also blessed with many wonderful groups of friends. The one I am most heavily involved with right now who show me how giving they are on a daily and weekly basis is the animal rescue community, all working together to save animals in need, often times animals nobody else would give a second look to as they belong in the "too hard basket".

But in general, I work with very lovely people, and I have lovely people as friends away from work, AND I have many awesome groups of friends online as well. I am so blessed!

  122. I just posted a review for Big Hero 6. We all thoroughly enjoyed it.

  123. I love Big Hero 6! A few parts made my 7 year old daughter so sad, though. Still, she loved it, too.

I have a few great groups of friends. I've been quite grateful for them lately. Glad you have such a wonderful support foundation!

  124. Jack the Ripper: Newly Discovered Tales of Sherlock Holmes... Sounds interesting. Did you say Fellowship of the Dragon? I'm impressed. I myself am a member of the Fellowship of the Slaves, being snowed under and all. (No, not snowed in... yet.)

    Have a great weekend.
