Insecure Writer’s Support Group, March Movie Preview, and Ninja News!

It’s time for another group posting of the Insecure Writer’s Support Group! Time to release our fears to the world – or offer encouragement to those who are feeling neurotic. If you’d like to join us, click on the tab above and sign up. We post the first Wednesday of every month. I encourage everyone to visit at least a dozen new blogs and leave a comment. Your words might be the encouragement someone needs.

My awesome co-hosts today are Tina Downey, Elsie, Elizabeth Seckman, and Julie Flanders! Please visit and thank them for helping today.

I also need volunteers to co-host next month! Since it’s April, it would be best if the co-hosts aren’t participating in the A to Z Challenge. (Trust me, the two combined is a scary, scary thing.) Let me know if you can co-host on April 2. Thanks!

I’m between 8,000 and 10,000 words from finishing my current manuscript. Things are moving along great and I still wish I typed faster. But the first draft is almost done.

And then comes something I’ve never had to do. Go back and add new scenes, plot points, twists, and even a subplot.

Now, I’ve always had to go back and add details. That’s just a given, as I am such a barebones writer. (Hacking and slashing to bring down the word count? What on earth is that?) But I’ve never faced the task of adding so many scenes.

Some will be small, some just embellishments on existing scenes, and a couple will be several pages long. I’ve made notes where I need to go back to, so I do have a plan. But it will be a new experience for me.

Anyone else had to add a lot of new scenes?

Be sure to visit others on the IWSG list!

March Movie Preview

Here are the upcoming theatrical releases for March! As always, descriptions courtesy of the IMDB. Snarky comments by me. (And upon request, I went for full out snark today!)

7 –

300: Rise of an Empire
Greek general Themistokles leads the charge against invading Persian forces led by mortal-turned-god Xerxes and Artemisia, vengeful commander of the Persian navy. Director: Noam Murro
Stars: Sullivan Stapleton, Rodrigo Santoro, Eva Green, Lena Headey
More blood, boobs, and carnage than you can shake a Spartan at! (And actually, it’s getting good reviews.)

Mr. Peabody and Sherman
The time-travelling adventures of an advanced canine and his adopted son, as they endeavor to fix a time rift they created.
Director: Rob Minkoff
Stars: Ty Burrell, Max Charles, Stephen Colbert, Leslie Mann
Big fan as a kid. (Before blood, boobs, and carnage came along…)

Jodorowsky's Dune
The story of cult film director Alejandro Jodorowsky's ambitious but ultimately doomed film adaptation of the seminal science fiction novel.
Director: Frank Pavich
Stars: Alejandro Jodorowsky, Michel Seydoux, H.R. Giger, Chris Foss
Probably better than the real movies...

14 –

Need for Speed
Fresh from prison, a street racer who was framed by a wealthy business associate joins a cross country race with revenge in mind. His ex-partner, learning of the plan, places a massive bounty on his head as the race begins.
Director: Scott Waugh
Stars: Aaron Paul, Dominic Cooper, Scott Mescudi, Imogen Poots
They cast Aaron Paul from Breaking Bad so SOMEONE would go see this film. (Alternate title – Need to Cash in on Fast and Furious Franchise.)

Veronica Mars
Years after walking away from her past as a teenage private eye, Veronica Mars gets pulled back to her hometown - just in time for her high school reunion - in order to help her old flame Logan Echolls, who's embroiled in a murder mystery.
Director: Rob Thomas
Stars: Kristen Bell, Jason Dohring, Enrico Colantoni, James Franco
No one’s laughing at Kickstarter now! (However, I’m still not putting money into anything lacking in blood, boobs, and carnage. Except Firefly.)

21 –

Muppets Most Wanted
While on a grand world tour, The Muppets find themselves wrapped into an European jewel-heist caper headed by a Kermit the Frog look-alike and his dastardly sidekick.
Director: James Bobin
Stars: Tina Fey, Ricky Gervais, Ty Burrell, Tom Hiddleston
Hopefully this really is the most wanted Muppet film.

Divergent
In a world divided by factions based on virtues, Tris learns she's Divergent and won't fit in. When she discovers a plot to destroy Divergents, Tris and the mysterious Four must find out what makes Divergents dangerous before it's too late.
Director: Neil Burger
Stars: Shailene Woodley, Theo James, Kate Winslet, Jai Courtney
Another young adult, futuristic, dystopian, blah, blah, blah, blah… (Maybe there will be blood, boobs, and carnage?)

28 –

Noah
The Biblical Noah suffers visions of an apocalyptic deluge and takes measures to protect his family from the coming flood.
Director: Darren Aronofsky
Stars: Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly, Anthony Hopkins, Emma Watson
Oh please, oh please, oh please, oh please don’t mess up this Bible story!!

What’s your insecurity today? Can you help co-host in April? And what movies strike your fancy this month…?

  1. The support you offer is awesome. Particularly when you have so much on your own writing plate already.

  2. Congrats on being so close to completing your first draft! I think that you should start selling your own vitamins. It's a shame that Aaron Paul's talent might be wasted on that movie. Oh, and Elephant's Child is absolutely right about you.

  3. I'm excited about the new 300 movie. But not for the boobs. I'm in it for the man flesh!

    ReplyDelete
  4. I'm definitely an over writer in my first drafts, I don't think I've ever had to add many scenes to anything yet.
Great news about nearly finishing your first draft. I'm just starting mine but I'll get there too!

As much as I'd love to help out with next month's IWSG, the timings not going to be great for me. If you need anyone from June onwards though I'm your gal!

  5. Dude,

I may be Oxymoronic (and not available in small, illegal baggies) but I can cover one slot for April as I continue to pull a Gary-esque stance in not participating in A-Z :)

By the way, did you make a sharp moment to one side?

Your bag broke and three sharp-looking star thingies fell out :)

  6. I'm not exactly a bare bones writer, but I do find myself adding more in revisions than I take away. Then my wonderful CPs come along and tell me to cut things! lol

Good luck with the final part of your manuscript, Alex! I hope the climax goes well for you. :D

  7. Size - that's what's making me insecure this month.

  8. Hey Ninja Captain Alex!! I'm sure you know I'm just getting back to my blogging since I've been sickie for a while, but I'm back now. I'm definitely not up for the A-Z Challenge, but if someone is willing to edumacate :) me, I'd be more than happy to help co-host April's IWSG (God-willing).

  9. Being a huge fan of Zack Snyder's 300, I'm eager to see the sequel. I doubt it will be as good though. I''m also excited about Noah and Divergent.

    ReplyDelete
  10. You totally cracked me up today!!!!! Blood, boobs, & carnage. hehehe As usual, I haven't seen a single one of those movies & probably won't until they're out on TV or free on demand.

Yeah, I'm totally a 'go back & add in more scenes' type writer. I only WISH I had to slash to bring down my word count. Go bare bones!

    ReplyDelete
  11. I'm up! My post is up! The Engineer had to literally pry my face off the keyboard last night. It was one of those days. However, it was also one of those asthma nights, so I'm all set now. Didn't mean to stress you out. Co-hosting away!

Oh goodness gracious, you gave me my more snark, and dang Captain, that was good snark. A+.

I WILL go see anything Aaron Paul is in. Breaking Bad is one of the best shows ever. (Don't say anything, still watching it...behind as usual on everything). Kinda cracks me up how they WILL do anything to copy a successful franchise (not to mention name their movie after a video game...wonder if they got permission or if they're connected).

Never laughed at Kick-starter. Big fan and have supported many friends getting started, and are now successful film makers. Feels good.

Lastly, yes, you better not mess up Noah. Even Spielberg managed to respect the Bible when he made Prince of Egypt.

Long winded today. Better cut that out or I'll never get around my section of the list...

  12. Looking forward to watching Divergent and Noah. Off tomorrow night to see The House of Night movie with my daughter. Will let you know what I think.

Glad to hear your writing is happening. I am sure you will get it fine tuned in no time!

    ReplyDelete
  13. I want to see Noah (and Son of God) before they leave the theatre. I'm notorious for wanting to see something and then never getting over to the movies.

You are just rocking and rolling on your book, Alex. It took me two years to write mine. How in the world do you find the time??

April will be an interesting month for the IWSG and A-Z Challenge. I'm not sure how I'm going to handle it just yet.

Off to do my co-hosting! Thanks!!

  15. Adding new scenes? Absolutely. I'm an extremely concise writer (and talker) and I always have to add scenes and details after my first draft to make the story more engaging.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I'm still high off watching The Lego Movie on Saturday. Might go see Mr. Peabody next week. Can't wait for Dragons 2 but Divergent (I can at least promise you Alex that there will be death and Kate W. plays a woman with huge boo...I mean ego) will have to do as my must see movie this month. Muppets Most Wanted better not suck. I love Miss Piggy. Damn it I'm already scrounging cash for Son of God. Hopefully Noah will still be floating in Jamaican theatres when I have extra cash to see it.

Anyway, I'm glad your writing is progressing well and it better to go back than to have written nothing. I think as writers we both know that. I'm glad 300: rise has been getting positive reviews but damn I need to save for a computer. I have already exchanged some of my paypal cash to get a new a pair of creeps and go to the movies long with a few miscellaneous expenses. So I need to buckle down if I want to get a laptop before April. Damn not having a full-time job. I have way more free time but expenses can be murder. Sorry for chatting about myself for most of this and enjoy your day Alex.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I quite often have to add whole new scenes, because my basic method is just to write a thing, then work out what on earth it's all about. I think it's not too bad, so long as you don't get attached to your first draft as somehow being the perfect version.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I do have to add in scenes for every book, yes. And I'm just writing an editor-requested scene for a book I handed in Jan.1! Had to reread the book just to refresh myself.

Some interesting movies! I'm not so much into the actiony stuff (end up hiding behind my hands when it's on!) So maybe the Muppets for me. :)

    ReplyDelete
  19. Sometimes I change so much of the text between drafts they could be completely different stories. Ah, the joys of being a pantser.

The two movies I'd like to see (if I ever get out to the theater) are the Muppets: Most Wanted and Peabody and Sherman. Obviously my tastes were formed long before I heard of BBC (not the British one!).

    ReplyDelete
  20. So awesome you're almost done with your first draft. I've never had to add a lot. I have to watch my word count so not to have to slash. I'm so much slower at writing than you. Only on chapter 13.

And here's someone who's looking forward to Divergent.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I went to the first 300 movie with my son. Both of us wanted to disappear with the first boobage scene. We laugh about it to this day.(good movie besides embarrassment with my son)And I'm with Natalie, I loved the Divergent Book and also looking forward to the movie. As far as going back and adding scenes, yes. I've done it to make the wip better.Once I had to cut 4 whole chapters, I nearly cried, but it was the wrong POV. Sounds like you're riding over the first hump. Good Luck.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Don't mind the blood and carnage, but leave out the boobs please.

I don't care what story it is, film makers generally mess it up. Never seen Breaking Bad, didn't like the concept.

Saw The Butler last night, enjoyed it. See, I get there in the end.

Way to go with your book Alex, Enjoyed your first three so I know I will enjoy the rest.

You don't have to start a newspaper, you already have one.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Great news on your first draft. I add scenes, I delete scenes, I add other scenes which messes up the flow, and then have to rewrite. Yesterday I muttered the dreaded words, "You might need to outline, Liza." Hence, I'm still a novelist in training. Happy IWSG Day, Alex!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Not won over by any of those movies, but this Blood,Boobs & Carnage movie you talk about sounds very interesting.

  25. Thank you Elephant's Child.

    Julie, appreciate that!

Anne, I'm sure you will have plenty.

    Heather, I will remember that!

Mark, you've been drafted, and there's more sharp thingies where those came from...

    Lilicas, thanks!

Terri - yeah! Let's hear it for bare bones writing.

Tina, you wanted snark! And Spielberg did well with Prince of Egypt, so Noah better get a similar treatment.

Elsie, I have no idea where I find the time...

    Vanessa, good to know!

Sheena-kay, I did see Kate was in that movie. And sorry money is tight.

Stu, I have no delusions of that!

Natalie, I have no idea what chapter I'm on since I don't add those until later...

Cathrina, I can't imagine cutting that much.

Jo, that's true, I do have one!

Moody, someone needs to make it!

    ReplyDelete
  26. For sure I hope they don't mess up that bible story. I remember the absolutely dreadful version Jon Voight made.

Congrats on be so close to the end of the first draft!

    ReplyDelete
  27. I over write, so I go back and delete, delete, delete.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I'm glad I'm not the only one who doesn't have any concept of the idea of hacking scenes. My problem is always the exact opposite! Congrats on getting so far on your ms, I'm sure your additions will come easily once you get going with them.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I saw the trailer for Noah in the theater Saturday and it piqued my interest. Looks fascinating. And I can't believe I never watched the Veronica Mars TV series!

    ReplyDelete
  30. I think I'm the only person left on the planet who's not read Divergent. Oh, well.

Mr. Peabody and Sherman?? I will be so there. Loved that cartoon as a kid.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I think it's pretty cool you actually KNOW you only need 8-10000 words to complete your first draft.I'm never sure how quickly I will close the story. I am at the point now where I just want to get the bare bones of the story down, then go back and add what's needed. My crit group is always saying you need to let the reader know more of what's in her thoughts, how she feels, etc. They just don't get it that I can do more of that in the next draft. First one is the skeleton so I need input on finding holes in the plot and implausible situations. Remember Natalie Goldberg's excellent book on writing, Writing Down the Bones? Hope you have fun finishing up your project!

    ReplyDelete
  32. You're rockin' Alex on your WIP!!!!

I can't wait to see Divergent. It looks good. Not all YA novels to movie have worked out well. Hopefully this one does.

I might be able to host next month. I just need to check to make sure we're back from spring break.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Excellent progress on your WIP, Alex. I can't wait for Divergent! I'm not doing A to Z so if you're still looking for co-hosts for April, I'm game.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Good luck Alex with your new book. I have a couple on tap and outlined, but they will be much smaller, less than 200 pages.

Mr. Peabody and Sherman along with Noah are high on my lists of movies to see.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I'm a skeletal writer too. I was so bare when I rewrote I doubled my first draft!

    What's a co-host do? Look pretty?

    ReplyDelete
  36. Wish I had time to co-host but maybe this summer? Right now I'm swamped with writing a short story for an anthology to benefit a fellow writer with cancer, doing my A-Z posts, finishing a short story I started in December and put on the back burner when we moved to Ecuador, then I have a romance trilogy to finish and two more mystery books. What year did you want co-hosts? LOL!

Seriously, thank you for all you do!

    ReplyDelete
  37. So excited about your new book!!!!

I have no interest in seeing Divergent. I really liked the book too, I'm just not up for another great book being screwed by Hollywood.

I'll help with ISWG next month. Let me know.

    ReplyDelete
  38. cool on how much you have finished on your WIP...at least you are still working on it and realize it...and you are not having to come back later and add them...i think the hard thing is matching those new scenes up to what is there...making sure you dont mention things that happen later and get it outside of the progression to that point...and making sure the voice is similar...

    ReplyDelete
  39. I'm still working on an ending but, yes, I know how you feel. I've also gone back and added new scenes in order to try to tighten up the story. If I can do it, I know you'll have no problem at all. Thanks again for the support you've shown me, I appreciate it.

Oh, also can't wait for Mr. Peabody....loved it as a kid!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Good luck with the draft. For flash fiction, I usually have to cut chunks out. For novels, I usually have to add in. Go figure.

Eek! Why did I think IWSG didn't happen in April?

    ReplyDelete
  41. Thanks for creating the IWSG! And good job almost finishing your WIP! So close now! :)

    ReplyDelete
  42. Congrats on being so close with your manuscript! I really can't wait to see Mr. Peabody and Sherman. Have a great day!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Great job, Alex, getting so close to the end of the first draft. Oh, yes, I always have to go back and add scenes (or delete others). Just did that in my WIP. But I always save those deleted "darlings". I know where I can use them in a future ms. Best wishes and thanks for starting this terrific group!

    ReplyDelete
  44. I swear, I'm naming my next book: Blood, Boobs and Carnage! Or maybe your first album!

Great post. I'm the same about having to add to my word count and not hack and slash. I wish!

I want to see Veronica Mars but that's about it on that list. I'll watch Divergent w/ the cute guy when it hits the USA channel.

    7 to go!!!

    ReplyDelete
  45. I bet once you get into it, you'll have no problem adding to your manuscript.

    And Muppets! I want Muppets.

    ReplyDelete
  46. For the short story I've just finished writing, I changed some details to the mystery running the story halfway through my first draft. As a result I had to go back, change some of the clues and hints I'd left...

I find that when I'm working on more complex projects, I can get twisted around, adding new details that I think of as I write. Can be a bit of a torment...

    ReplyDelete
  47. Alex, I'm like you. My first drafts are always stripped down, then I go back and layer in details, subplots, etc. I always laugh when people talk about having to hack and slash their manuscript.

    ReplyDelete
  48. I'm struggling with that need to add new scenes and plot points as well, with a new character mucking things up even further. It's tough, but I know the book will be better for it in the end.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I added a few scenes to flesh out my WIP. I even changed the opening scene, and I NEVER thought I would do that! It makes for a better-rounded story, however. You can do it, Sensei!

I'm going to see Mr. Peabody and Sherman with my niece this weekend. I can't wait! I'm deathly worried 300 ROAE won't be as epic as the original, but we'll see. And in Need for Speed's defense, I'm sure every NFS gamer will go see it! I'd love to!

    ReplyDelete
  50. It sounds like you're well on your way with your writing - awesome!
I'm looking forward to watching 300 and Noah - yeah I hope they don't screw this up. If you're still looking for co-hosts for April IWSG let me know. Since I'm not doing the A-Z I'd love to jump in and help out :)
    Cheers!

    ReplyDelete
  51. I've been doing a whole lot of editing and rewriting for my second draft, and now doing the 10th chapter find myself needing to write a whole new scene for the first time. I feel like I forgot how to do it!

    ReplyDelete
  52. I'm finishing my draft, Alex, and I have to go back and add A LOT; my writing is too abbreviated, and whole new scenes are needed. I share your concerns. But the draft is the hardest part, right? Right! No fear. Right? Right!

I'm happy to co-host, if still needed.
    Be well, Alex.

  53. I'm sure you'll have the added elements included in no time. Congrats to Juliana on the release. As for movies, I'm thinking of 'borrowing' my young cousins for a night so I can go see Mr. Peabody and Sherman without looking silly. Loved it as a kid. I'm hoping they do a good job on Noah.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I wish I was all about adding scenes after the first draft. I have an ax. A big one. Seriously. I tend to write and write and write... *grabs chin* Maybe if I typed slower...

  56. Donna, glad I missed that.

    Julie, you are not alone.

    Liz, I've never read it.

JQ, that's just how we write.

Stina, let me know and thanks!

    Jennifer, thanks!

Holly, that's funny! And that's one of the duties.

    Donna, that's more important.

    Mina, thanks!

    Brian, now I'm paranoid...

    Madeline, we've never missed it.

Heather, if you do, I'm buying that book for sure!

    Steven, we'll both laugh then.

Debra, I dug the game, so I am curious about Need for Speed.

    Marta, thank you!

Robyn, thanks, and abbreviated. I like that term.

  60. That "need for Speed" looks like an old movie called Cannonball run to me.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I sent you an email volunteering for April... And you can totally add the plot twists--I've done it both ways and there is a smoothing layer that this route has, but otherwise it isn't harder. It is just the trickle effect of what has been added on the stuff after... YOU CAN!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Blood, boobs, and carnage does sell tickets!

I'm pretty sure they've messed up Noah, from a biblical perspective. It's Hollywood, after all.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Hi Alex, I hope the universe is treats you well this month and your novel wraps up nicely. I am also finishing up my novel. I'm on the second draft and have almost wrapped it up. Yay for movies. I need charm, struggle and romance in a movie. That's my formula. Anyway happy IWSG day!

    ReplyDelete
  64. Good luck finishing that first draft! I've had to add new scenes and the like to my current novel. Even in the final edit, I found scenes to change/add.

I'm looking forward to Divergent. I did enjoy the first book of the series a lot.

    ReplyDelete
  65. I'm sure you'll have no shortage of volunteers to co-host next month. I'm not sure exactly what it entails as I'm new to this blog... but if you find yourself short of hosts I'm willing to pitch in :-)

    ReplyDelete
  66. 300 does sound good, even if it is basically the first movie done again. Good one on the need for speed, do you think you have a bit of a fetish with blood, boobs and carnage? lol

    ReplyDelete
  67. I've seen the preview for Noah and it looks like it's all about special effects... boring... (Will they show blood, boobs and carnage?)

    ReplyDelete
  68. Yup. Have had to go back and add scenes and tidbits. Sometimes you don't know you need them till you look back over your story in hindsight. I've had to move scenes, too.

Sometimes I write scenes ahead as the inspiration strikes. Usually it works and I just dovetail it in when I get there, but occasionally it doesn't fit, and then I'm faced with either cutting it or moving it.

*squinches eyes and hopes I'm not biting off more than I can chew*
    I'll co-host in April.

IWSG #268 (until you cull the list again or I goof and get myself deleted. :P)

  69. I often have to go back and add scenes in revisions, especially when developing sub-plots. Good luck finishing the draft! :)

    ReplyDelete
  70. Hey, don't diss the YA futuristic dystopian blah blah blah. That's what I write, haha. And I'm all about supporting any YA book to movie endeavor because yay!

I'm a barebones writer too and I'm working on adding new scenes right now. And I'm dreading it, which is why I'm reading blogs instead, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I LOVE adding new scenes. It's like reenergizing a story I thought I'd never get to recreate. Layers are what make a story epic if you ask me, and being able to go back and add more after the fact? It's like getting to add another flavor of cheese to a delicious sandwich. =)

    ReplyDelete
  72. Good luck finishing your novel, and adding those extra scenes.
I'm looking forward to see how Divergent turns out.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Nearing the end of Round 2 (adding new scenes to my first draft). Only two new chapters to write, then its off to betas.

    ReplyDelete
  74. LOL, you and I should trade skills, Alex. Maybe then I won't have to cut so much overwritten STUFF, and you won't have to go back and add more!

I am PSYCHED to see the Muppets movie!!

  75. Dear Alex,
Thank you for visitng my post for IWSG. I may have to put my novel away for a while in order to write this paper for the university, but I will continue to 'check in' the first Wednesday of the month in April and May to let you all know how the cats are doing, if I can find a part time job and if the university gives me a passing grade for my paper! Then in June, I am hoping to be able to be able to continue writng my novel, evenn if I get a summer job.
    Best wishes,

  76. I know what you mean about a bigger revision. I never had to rewrite or change a lots of scenes of my manuscripts, but I'm sure I'll have to do that with my current wip. It's not encouraging :( Hang in there. We can do it!

Thanks for featuring my book, Alex :)

    ReplyDelete
  77. +1 for blood, boobs, and carnage!

That's an interesting writing process. We go into a book knowing all the sub plots, twists, etc, so I can't imagine going back in and adding that kind of stuff after the fact. I suppose that's a testament to your writing skill.

And I'm glad to hear I'm not the only one who's not going nuts for Divergent. I'm over this whole teen dystopian we have to all fight each other to survive thing. I'm sure it's a fine book, but how about something new, Hollywood?

Oh, and that means you too, Aaron Paul (Walker?).

  78. My son has already announced that he wants to see the Need For Speed movie when his birthday comes up this month, so I guess I'll be seeing it too. He plays all the games so he won't care if the plot is any good or not.

  79. 1) I follow the Veronica Mars Movie page on FB, so I have been up to speed on this one for the longest time. And am anxiously awaiting the debut. Two days ago (?) they posted a song from the movie soundtrack. We Used To Be Friends by the Dandy Warhols was the theme song for that show for the duration of its TV run. Love that song. They decided to have someone else cover it for the soundtrack. I believe that they said something about wanting a more mature sound to reflect the movie (ten years down the road). OMG the song was horrible. I haven't heard such a terrible cover in the longest time. Every comment on that post was similar to mine. "This is the worst ever..." or something like that. Now my hopes for the movie have dipped. If it has gone the way of the song... Veronica Mars fans are about to be severely disappointed.

    2) I WANT to see Divergent. And I really hope that there are no boobs.

    3) I am to A to Zing this year. Do I need to remove my name from the IWSG Linky List? I am not planning on doing both.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Usually I add and/or change the beginning and/or ending. To help it make more sense.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I am in the process of moving forward existing scenes and reshaping them, and also adding new to the middle while removing scenes from the end. MADDENING. All part of being a writer I suppose. I wish it got easier!

I am super excited for Muppets Most Wanted. My mom called and said she wants to go with me (no kids, just us) because we are long-time Muppets fans. I just saw a new preview and pretty much squee-ed with delight. I totally love the Muppets for life.

Divergent I fear is going to get dismissed as a Hunger Games rip off, even though the book series is very, very successful (and continues to top bestseller charts). Supposedly it's tracking well for a big opening, but I'm not entirely sure what that means. They've already greenlit a sequel. I don't think it will bomb like Mortal Instruments (another very successful YA series which sadly did not translate well to screen or to ticket sales), but it's not going to be as huge as HG either. I guess we'll see!

  82. Yay on the writing front! I'm in the middle of doing rewrites now on a 70k novel I wrote two years ago. Lots of adding, deleting, & and moving scenes around. Fun stuff. :D Best of luck w/ yours!

I can help out with next month's IWSG if you still need it. Not doing A to Z, as I'll be in Denver for a wedding 5 days mid-April.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Congratulations on the first draft finish. I love it when I get that first draft done and that feeling of accomplishment. As for revisions and edits, I don' t like those.Good luck with those new scenes. Always fun when new ideas fit into your scenes.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Thank you Alex for all you do and share! I know you will get there one strike at a time. YOU can do it!

I want to see Noah and like you- I hope they don't screw it up~

    ReplyDelete
  85. Noah does look interesting, but I'm behind on movies, so it's not top of the list. I want the BBC Sherlock new series to begin. It's one of the few shows I watch.

I like writing scenes and that's something I do when stumped with the prose. I do make notes and add more scenes or narrative after the first draft.

Good luck with the novel writing!

I've got the planning and the theme for the A to Z and am working on prescheduling posts.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Feel the same way you do about 'Noah'. Here's hoping. I also heard that Christisn Bale will be playing Moses in a movie titled 'Exodus' coming out later this year. Another one that I have high hopes for, but din't necessarily trust Hollyeoid

    ReplyDelete
  87. Sorry about those typos, working from my phone and it won't let me make corrections. Now I need to open up the computer and write my IWSG post.

    ReplyDelete
  88. 8,000 to 10,000 words away from finishing your current WIP, that's quite fast Alex. If I remember right you had been outlining it during your Christmas break. You have to tell me the secret of your fast writing.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Heck yeah, I've had to add scenes, descriptions, etc - I have a tendency to write some pretty sparse scenes. It's true that I've had to cut some too, but if I cut, I always have to add.
Best wishes with your writing plan.

I'm actually looking forward to this Muppet movie more than the previous ones, Divergent is just not going to be as good as the book when they've cast super-model actors to play teens with insecurities (Tris is supposed to be tiny, angular and worried about her lack of figure but maybe they're trying for that BBC rating that you've mentioned.)And yes, Noah had better be good. So far, the special affects look cool, and the cast is good . . . so, I have my hopes up.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Christine, that made me chuckle!

Karen, they were good this year.

    Charles, I remember that film.

Thanks, Hart! And good to hear.

    Thanks, Jane!

    Pat, not at all!

Bish, hopefully not in that movie.

    Melissa, thanks!

    Thanks, Joylene!

    Ilima, just having some fun.

    Crystal, I like that analogy.

    Liz, deal!

Anna, hope your paper scores high.

    Juliana, you're welcome.

Bryan and Brandon, or a testament to a lack of skill..

Robin, sorry the cover sucked. And it's all right if you need to skip the IWSG next month.

Stephsco, kids not needed when it comes to Muppets.

    Candilynn, thanks!

Faraway, I don't trust them either.

Rachna, fast? I feel so slow...

    ReplyDelete
  91. Hi, Alex,

You'll get it done. Adding things only becomes scary for me when I have to do it in several places. A one-shot scene I can handle.

Thanks to your co-hosts. Hope you find some for April today.

    ReplyDelete
  92. I think it was two years ago now that I finished up a radical rewrite and restructuring, which involved junking the majority of the original Part I, no longer dividing the book into two parts, and creating a huge amount of new chapters and scenes. It still needs work, but it got the book from a novella-sized 38,000 words to a respectable 60,000, and became an actual story, instead of consisting primarily of chapters telling the reader about the main characters and their families. I thought the idea worked when I was fourteen, but not as an adult.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Adding words can be as hard as cutting them when editing. But I have had to do it several times and tend to find that when I get going there's no stopping me!

Divergent is on our list for upcoming films. I'm not A-Zing so could help with April's IWSG if you are still looking for co-hosts let me know.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Great that you are so close to the end of your first draft. Those scenes you will add will breathe life into your story -- so craft well, Dr. Frankenstein! :-)

NOAH's producers had to add an apologetic statement of sorts to the movie I read to placate believers. I fear they made Noah into Maximus but balder not bolder!

    ReplyDelete
  95. 8 000 to 10 000 words away... you're so close to finishing your current ms... and I thought you said you write slowly...?
I probably fall into the "bare bones writer" category too... flash fiction is concise, no wasting of words... just get to the point...
    HAPPY WORLD READ ALOUD DAY!

    ReplyDelete
  96. Yay for being almost done with the first draft! Good luck with adding scenes and such, it isn't too bad! You got this ;)

I really, really, really hope they don't mess up Noah...

    ReplyDelete
  97. heck yes for Dune... first i am hearing about it... great people in your post. i am excited i think i am one of the 12 people who like the 80's dune.... need that spice!

    ReplyDelete
  98. Oh my gosh, congrats on the incredible progress with your draft! Please keep us posted when you finish. And I'm such a dud about IWSG and am going to add that into my post. Also, 300 looks incredible! I always get the best movie updates from your blog.

    ReplyDelete
  99. I just finished reading Divergent, so I'd like to see the movie....and I'm kind of craving movie popcorn too. It has been a long time since I've been to a theater.

    ReplyDelete
  100. I always have to add scenes in my romances. In my first draft I always leave the love scenes empty and then go back and write them in.
I'll probably see Divergent with my daughter but my feelings about it are similar to yours.
I'm pretty sure they'll mess up Noah.

    ReplyDelete
  101. I'm looking forward to Noah. Hope the filmmakers don't let us down like they are so apt to do.

  102. I envy you your challenge, Alex. When I write, I go around and around in circles until I stumble across what I'm trying to express. Often I have no clue what is trying to claw its way out of me. Word-slashing strengthens your writing I believe! Good post!

    ReplyDelete
  103. I have had several stories that required me to go back and add scenes, plot points, etc. I can't say I've ever finished any of those stories, but I've certainly written them...

I can't WAIT to see Muppets most wanted. Honestly, I'm so thrilled they're making Muppet movies again that I don't even really care what they make, I just want to see my favorite friends up on the screen doing what they do best.

And since I am planning on doing the A to Z challenge next month I'm gonna have to skip the co-hosting, but I will certainly volunteer again in the future since it is so much fun!

    ReplyDelete
  104. Congrats on being close to finishing your WIP! Like you, this is the first time I'm trying to power through a first draft, and know I'll have to go back, add voice, tension, and twists. Fingers crossed for both of us! :)

    Congrats to Juliana!

Thanks for the movie updates, although it looks like a rather poor crop...

    ReplyDelete
  105. Congrats on the progress of your draft. My process is actually a mess. Lots of hacking and slashing most of the time, which results in new scenes having to be added to make sure the story flows.

Not really sure what a co-host does but if you still need someone, I'd be happy to help in April as I'm not doing A-Z.

  106. I've never had to ADD material to my books. My first novel came in at a whopping 160K...so there was some cutting and burning involved.

    Good luck with the edit.

  108. I'm hoping to never have to go back and add entire scenes.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Tyrean, we'll just keep praying Noah is good.

Joy, I'm talking a lot of scenes...

    Thanks, Suzanne!

    Roland, that's not good...

    Michelle, I do write slow!

Jeremy, I didn't think that Dune was awful.

    Saumya, no worries!

    Patricia, you should go.

Beverly, I'm glad they are making Muppet movies as well.

    Lexa, we can do it!

    Caffe, thanks!

Redfaced, that's two of my books.

    David, no man boobs!!!!

    Andrew, never thought I would...

    ReplyDelete
  110. Cheering you on for the rest of your manuscript! I'm with you - hoping they don't mess up the real story of Noah.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Congrats on being so close to finishing the first draft. I had one story where I came in quite short of my desired word count. It is a chore to add words and scenes after the fact. So much easier to cut. I will always try and write more then I know I will need. Good luck.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Sad to say that the Muppets will probably be the best out of this group, though I'm totally going to see 300 anyway. I'm into the documentary, but I only see so many movies in the theatre each year and there are heavy hitter coming out later. Kudos on the outstanding snarkiness!
My currently insecurity is getting over lackluster results from my first book and moving forward with the next one.

    ReplyDelete
  113. In 1 week I had one person complain about me about a debt that he incurred after paying off the others through my work, I had another who told me to "F you and a collector who told me I was useless. I guess my insecurity went up a notch with people in general...thankfully not all people. I would love to see Noah and i hope it is good and not just effects laden but has great writing and acting. I can't believe Kate Winslet is in that other movie but by her history in film one should be able to see alot of boobs

    ReplyDelete
  114. Alex, congratulations on being so near the end of this project! Wow. you are my writing hero.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Usually, when I have to add scenes, it feels weird to me. I tend to write from beginning to end (I know some who jump around for various reasons) so when I have to go back, I feel like I'm forcing something into the story.

I have n't read the Divergent series nor do I have any interest in seeing the movie. I love YA, but lately, mainstream YA has been blah to me.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Divergent definitely has blood and carnage. And maybe a bit of boobs.

Veronica Mars (of which i am a backer) may have some blood, and probably some social and emotional carnage.

And i already heard that Noah is really not based on the bible. The studio already released a statment that more or less said "if you're christian, please don't be mad by our giants and stuff)

And i'm totally jealous that you're 10k away from finishing your draft while i'm only 10K into mine. Can we trade? (mine has blood and carnage, and i'm not agains adding some boob, if that will help) ;)

    ReplyDelete
  117. I've gone back into stuff I've written to add stuff. It's not always whole scenes, but just details and dialogue, that sort of thing. It sounds like you're almost done with your story!

My family and I are in love with Frozen and Kristen Bell's lovely voice. So perhaps I'd like to see Kristen Bell in the Veronica Mars movie, even though she most likely won't be singing in it.

    ReplyDelete
  118. I'm excited for 300. And I've heard that they messed up Noah.

    ReplyDelete
  119. I'm not doing AtoZ and could help out in April if you still need volunteers.

If I realize the book needs something or to turn a different way, I can't write and farther. So, I go back and rewrite before I can move on. Otherwise, it irks the crap out of me and I can't think about anything else.

This week I'll be starting the rewrite of The Rifters because of that...

    ReplyDelete
  120. I'm with you on having to add details towards the end. I tend to be a less is more writer, which doesn't help me reach that 60K mark. Good luck on that finish line! I'm pretty sure Rio's latest Carnival corners the market on boobs & booty's *and body glitter* But 300 may come close.

  123. Sounds like a big job, but you'll come out on top Alex. I'm surprised how many movies I'm looking forward to this month.

    ReplyDelete
  124. Thanks for another great IWSG month, Alex!

Yes, I've had to add scenes, delete scenes, add fleas, delete chapters. You name it. Good luck with your draft!

    ReplyDelete
  125. Sydney, I wish I knew how to do that.

Toinette, thanks, and just keep writing.

Birgit, that wasn't nice! And someone else pointed out there might be Kate boobs.

    Julie, aim higher!

Patricia, that's why this will be so odd...

Sarah, that made me laugh! I heard about the statement, although there were giants back then.

    Cynthia, probably no singing.

Mary, thanks! Some of it's stuff I don't know where to add yet.

    Samantha, I bet it does.

Maurice, I was surprised as well.

    ReplyDelete
  126. Your manuscript is like making a puzzle, but I think you have a file to file off the parts that do not fit!

    ReplyDelete
  127. I often have to go back and add scenes to my WIP. Whenever I don't know the details needed to move the plot forward, I'll write a few notes and come back to the scene later. Doing that helps me get the first draft done. And I don't think I've ever had to cut words. I guess that makes me a bare bones writer too.

    ReplyDelete
  128. Ugh! I always have more scenes to add, my current project is the one I wrote on NaNoWriMo, I have so much to do yet and adding new scenes is number one on my list.

    ReplyDelete
  129. I usually have to cut scenes because I tend to add everything whether it has to do with the story plot or not.

Good luck with adding scenes to your story.

    ReplyDelete
  130. I tend to write on the side of verbose, thus the hacking and slashing of paragraphs to lower word count applies to me.

Good luck beefing up your manuscript!

    ReplyDelete
  131. I've never had to add a lot of new scenes, but my first draft is always just a skeleton with some flesh on it--and some warts and boo-boos. Then I clean up, add on, take away, whatever is needed.

How exciting you're so close to completing yet another novel!

    ReplyDelete
  132. My newest manuscript needs many scenes added to it. We write in a similar way. I don't cut down. I have to add up.

    ReplyDelete
  133. 'Hacking and slashing to bring down the word count? What on earth is that?'

I only did that with one manuscript. The rest have been similar to yours, Al. Needing stuff filled in. It's a big, ol' challenge because there's something sa-weet about being lean. :)

    Godspeed.

    ReplyDelete
  134. I have a bunch of new scenes to add, too. I either skipped or glossed over stuff with the intention of going back later, and now that it's later, wow, that's a lot. It's not too bad once I get into it, though.

Actually, the alternate title should be Need to Cash in on Outdated Video Game Franchise. I can't wait for Divergent!

    ReplyDelete
  135. Thanks, Leovi!

Cherie, let's hear it for bare bones writers!

    Lynda, great minds!

    Suze, I like lean...

    JE, good one!

    ReplyDelete
  136. I'm going through the same thing at the moment! Having to add new scenes has so many ripple effects but more often than not they pay off. Hope it's not too tedious for you. Hopefully next IWSG post will see us both with completed drafts.

    ReplyDelete
  137. Alex,

Always amazed with how much you do and how much you make note of others. You and those clones are doing one heck of a job.

I hope you don't add so many scenes that it gets too complicated.

Five followers away as I type.

My only insecurity is the constant hassle from the British government. I can barely write or comment.

  138. Veronica Mars is the only one that strikes my fancy. I suspect peabody will be an abomination. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  139. It must feel so good to be almost finished with the first draft. The many, many snow days this year make me feel like I'm kinda far behind. And yes, I always have to add in details in the edits too!

    ReplyDelete
  140. Wow, can't believe you're so close to finishing! Seems like yesterday you mentioned that you were going to write another one after all. You're putting me to shame, Alex, but my best wishes to you on it.

    ReplyDelete
  141. Blood, boobs and carnage, HURRAH!!!!!
Now you've done it. You've driven the dwarves all crazy. I'll hold you responsible for any havoc they cause looking for that blood, boobs and carnage. Mostly the boobs. I'll keep the blood and the carnage, thank you.

And if you happen to be short on help for April (only IF you're short) the dragon offers a few dwarves to help on April 2. They might try to steal your dancing boots, use the cloning machine to get some nice tall samba dancers -driven by those boobs thoughts- and try to find where do you hide that Cosbolt you mentioned once, though.

I would offer S.A.M.'s help instead, but I fear what S.A.M. can do with so many of your clones around will not be covered by my Minion Insurance. Hmmm, okay, make that a big, underlined, neon-bright "ONLY IF" followed by "you're reckless enough."

    ReplyDelete
  142. That is such a good feeling when you get that close to the end, even if you have to go back and add more "meat". Good luck on finishing it up!

I'm a slasher. I typically write too much and have to cut. That can be just as hard!

As for the movies...Hmm, I think Divergent looks cool but I think I want to read the book first.

    ReplyDelete
  143. So by next month you will be done with your latest manuscript!I usually have to go back and delete scenes. I overwrite and then have to kill my babies.

I am not watching movies right now, but getting through all five amazing seasons of Breaking Bad...and I am reading Divergent so my daughter and I can go see the movie together and know what to expect (she's already read it).

Hey, I love co-hosting, but like you said it will be a lot with A to Z. But next time you need someone, give me a holler.

    ReplyDelete
  144. Lan, let's aim for that!

Thanks, Gary. And darn that British Government.

Al, hope I didn't cause a Dwarf riot! Think I am covered for April. And SAM near the clone machine would be bad...

Kim, I will! Enjoying Breaking Bad?

    ReplyDelete
  145. I write like you, bare bones and when I cut, it's because it's not working and then I'm freaked out because I need to make it up in the word count. :) Congrats on being so close.

I just learned about the new 300 movie last weekend - so I'm kind of excited about seeing it since we saw the first one.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Alex, I'm adding scenes in my WIP right now too. I cranked out a draft/outline of the entire book for NaNo, but now I'm going back to connect and smooth everything out. I actually love writing this way! It feels a bit like editing, because there's already enough there to pull you through and keep you excited about the writing while you're in the middle of it.

    ReplyDelete
  147. Congrats on being so close to The End! I totally understand on adding scenes--I'm a bare bones writer, too!

    ReplyDelete
  148. Yay for almost being done with the first draft! That's always an exciting time!

    ReplyDelete
  149. Believe me, I understand having to add new scenes. In past books, I've rewritten entire chapters, sometimes as much as a third of the book. Making sure everything that's not new fits with the new stuff can be a chore, but it's worth it. Just make sure you have someone check it over for continuity errors. ^_^

    ReplyDelete
  150. I'm not doing A-Z, I could help for next month's IWSG if you still need.

My first novel was just a 8,000 word short story that kept needing scenes added; and that ended up a trilogy. But I often find its easier just to keep writing the first draft and worry about filling in details - which scenes are just details - during the next couple edits/revisions. Hey, congrats on being nearly finished with the first writing.

I'll be seeing Divergent and Noah, hopefully.

  151. You're so close to finishing your draft! That's awesome. I usually have to go back and add details that I forgot about early on or in the previous book to sprinkle carefully through the manuscript. I've got a small list of details I'll have to back and add in during my first round of editing. I'm interested in seeing Divergent because I enjoyed the trilogy.

    ReplyDelete
  152. Going back is hard to do no matter what the reason. I went back so much on my first book that I learned to keep great notes. I stick them at the bottom of my ms. so I can view them as needed. However, I've heard of Scrivener and I'm really thinking I should invest in it. Good luck.

  158. Congrats on finishing (almost your novel). Maybe you will hit 2000 followers and finish the first draft on the same day! I have had to go back and add scenes, but it isn't that hard and always feels good when it's done. Also, I tend to overwrite, so I slash lots of words, thousands, from my first draft every time. Can't wait to see Divergent. The book was awesome. I might be able to cohost in April, too.

    ReplyDelete
  159. I have ti add flesh to my word bones too. I'm not a huge fan of description, so I don't initially write much of it, but some people need it, so where the editor says add it, I add it.

I am anxious to see Noah also, but I always hold my breath...can't say I always trust Hollywood to interpret the Bible.

Blood and boobs movie? I can guess what movie my husband will pick for me on Mother's Day.

  161. Grats on being so close to finishing draft one. For me, draft 2 is where things reallly get fun. Adding new scenes won't be nearly as hard as you think. You know your characters so well by the end of draft one that they'll walk you right through it.

Thanks again for this wonderful group. IWSG is still my favorite part of blogging.

  162. I really want to see Dune of Jodorowsky.

  163. I noticed the sarcasm with Divergent. I'm also having a hard time getting excited about that one. But Noah has me pumped! I can't wait :)

  164. I missed my IWSG post this month :( but I'm not going to miss visiting the folks!
    Congratulations on your novel progress!!!
I'm looking forward to all the March movies except for the Muppets. I hope I'm wrong, but don't think it will be The Most Wanted.

  165. Hitting both the same day would be great, Shell!

    Elizabeth, that's funny!

Nicki, that's good to hear! And I like tackling the second draft better.

Emilyann, I was told to bring the snark...

    Jenn, no worries!

  166. I did have to add scenes once because it was too bare bones! I used to be the opposite; one of my fantasies ended up at 149K!!!

    I'm better now.

    ReplyDelete
  167. i'm with you on adding scenes! my awesome cp totally helped me see what i needed to add! i'm about 5000 words from a solid ms - so exciting to be almost done, isn't it!

    mr peabody!!!!

    2000. wow. congrats!

  168. I like to add bits and reword other parts during edits. The first edits are actually fun. It's after that that gets to be a chore.

  169. I tend to overlook setting in my first draft so I have to go back and add all that in but a whole sub-plot?...have fun.

  170. I'm riding a writing high these days and so didn't have anything to post for IWSG this month. Woot! I'm sure I'll be back in the future, but for now I'll enjoy this confidence. ;)

I'm one of those who has to go back and slash, cut, and wring out the excess from my WIPs, so this going back to add pages thing is foreign to me. I'm definitely not know for my brevity. *coughs as realizes how long this comment is* Hehehehe!

I'm really want to see the new 300, but I'll probably wait until it comes out on PPV. Divergent...meh.

    ReplyDelete
  171. I've definitely had to add scenes before and I'm not the best at it, but I do enjoy it. It's kinda fun to add a new scene of two characters interacting and have it add to the story.

If you still need hosts, I am not doing the A-Z this year because my book releases on April 1st. :) If you do, just send me an email. kjmclaugh at gmail.com

I'm excited to see Noah (I hope they don't screw it up too) and Divergent. You definitely had some snark going there!

Is it possible to add something to the Ninja news? I'm doing a blog hop for my book release on April 1st and I would love some help getting the word out! :)

  172. I'm gonna skip right to the best part...300!!!!!! I mean, hot men, I mean killer men, I mean...okay okay, the drooling has commenced officially.

    ReplyDelete
  173. Yay for almost being done. I love going back to add scenes and subplots.

Great book news. Have a wonderful weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  174. Marcy, that's almost two books.

    Tara, yes it is!

    Sabrina, confidence is good.

Krista, thanks! And yes, be happy to mention your release on April 1.

Tammy, you're drooling on my blog...

  175. Congrats on the writing especially with the month of April coming up. One of these days you are going to have to post your secrets on how you do everything you do and still have time. I am a couple days behind catching up! I have no clue how you do everything you do!

  176. I have no idea how close I am to finishing my manuscript. I'm only on 1977 and I still have many years to go (to be fair-to me-I have written several stories for 1978-2005. They're just not all tied together yet).
Hoping to be done by Christmas. But, I'm afraid I won't be. Maybe that's my insecurity?

    ReplyDelete
  177. Congratulations on the WIP. I have indeed had to add new scenes, like 20,000 words to each installment of my TOONS series. Originally, each world took only a few chapters, so there was room to grow.

I hate to say it about "Noah," but it's far from a faithful adaptation. They make the pre-Deluge world into a sort of Mad Max-type dystopia, which I don't think it was. Just hope they don't put Sodom and Gommorrah in a sea battle like that TV movie.

  178. I write like I talk; WAY TOO MUCH INFORMATION. Ha. I always need to cut stuff out. But I don't know what to cut free. That's probably one of the biggest reasons why I don't get too far in my writing life... so I can't really help you out there friend.

I am actually afraid to see Divergent because I don't want to see a good book get hacked up in yet another poorly done adaptation. My daughter's Ancient History teacher actually offered the kids extra credit if they go to see the next 300 installment. It's rated R so that's a no go for her. Good thing she already has an A average, and doesn't need the extra credit :)

I'm cautiously optimistic about Noah. That is something I'd like to see.

  179. Wow. That is a whole lot of movies I have no desire to pay to watch. Bring on May and Godzilla already!

Congratulations on powering through your rough draft, Alex! Godspeed!

  180. ROFL! It's the Blood, Boobs, and Carnage review! Love it. :)

I've been a space cadet lately (think CassaStar will let me pilot?) and I forgot about IWSG this month! Grrr...

Thanks for always stopping by my blog and buoying my spirits. You are the best, Alex!

  181. Gossip Girl, I know how to time-manage my clones.

    Nigel, that would be awful!

Jaybird, surprised the teacher would do that.

    River, no worries!

  182. Heck, even when I'm supposedly in a hack-and-slash editing mode, I still manage to ADD new stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  183. I'm reading Divergent, and at first, I was thinking, great beginning, I like the main character. Now, towards the end of the book, I'm tired of the endless "Get up and fight" scenes.
Have fun adding interesting scenes to your next novel!

  184. Happy IWSG Day. Looks as if you're typing darned fast. I've left a comment on another blog about being able to help out on April 2nd, but I'll repeat it here just in case.

Here's to another successful week of writing.

    ReplyDelete
  185. Really looking forward to Mr. Peabody and Noah, though I'm always way behind on movies!

    ReplyDelete
  186. Man you've written your fingers off. Now the serious stuff happens, revising.

I will be watching me some movies.

    ReplyDelete
  187. I spend all my time going back and adding scenes - that's how all my books get written! Good luck. It's exciting to be so close to the end of the first draft - I love that stage!

    ReplyDelete
  188. New experiences are the things that make us grow! Good for you, Alex. Challenge is as challenge does, and most of the time, it doesn't turn out half bad if we put our best foot forward.

    ReplyDelete
  189. Thanks, Lee! I think we are covered.

    MJ! Welcome back.

    ReplyDelete
  190. Wow. I'm your 195th comment. That's a lot of comments. Now I forgot what I was going to say....

Congrats on being so close to finishing yet another novel! That's amazing! I am a bare-bones writer too especially on the first pass. It doesn't make sense to add a lot of things that will be cut later.

I am definitely out for A to Z. It was fun the two years I did it. There's no time lately.

    ReplyDelete
  191. Lol, your comments of the movie round-up made me giggle. 300 looks cool, and the Noah Crowe movie could go either way.

Best of luck with the revisions after you get those final words down. I write in layers, but I'm also the kind who needs to shave lots of fluff afterwards.

Hope you get those final followers soon!

  193. Full of mystery Veronica Mars!

    ReplyDelete
  194. I'm going to see Veronica Mars and Divergent because apparently I'm a 15 year old girl haha. But in my defense I'd rather spend two hours with Kristen Bell and Shailene Woodley than an army of 300 ripped, shirtless dudes (but wait... did you say boobs? lol)

    ReplyDelete
  195. But hopefully not blood on boobs that are suffering carnage? :P

Yes, I have a sick mind sometimes.

I am soooo excited about Veronica Mars. But I don't know when it'll come out in Aus. I only recently saw the series for the first time, and was so hooked I wanted to rewatch it immediately after finishing. Which is very unusual for me with any show!

Also, I'm excited about Divergent even though I haven't read any of the books yet so don't even really know what I'm excited about. ha. But I do have the books now so hopefully will get the first one read before I see the movie.

  196. Looking forward to the Muppets (glad they're back -- did they ever leave?) and Noah. Looks like Ridley Scott is making a Moses movie, too. Haven't been many big-budget Bible movies in a while.

    ReplyDelete
  197. Tonja, that made me chuckle.

    Thanks, Shah!

    Chris, I did say boobs!

Trisha, the movie almost went there...

Milo, not since Passion of the Christ.
