Pat and the Cat - Festivals for All! Plus Trivia, Ninja News, and National Wormhole Week - Wormfest!

Today I have for you a special treat
A funky rhyme that can’t be beat.
Because today Pat and his cat
Are here to amuse at my mat!

Please welcome Pat Hatt of It’s Rhyme Time, who will show you a proper rhyme.

Festival Time In Rhyme!

So since the cat is all done the A to Z he figured he'd fill some time with a guest post for the ninja wannabe. But what could he do? Why give festivals to visit for all of you.

Frozen Dead Guy Days.
Catch some sunny rays,
In dead guy land.
Wouldn't that be grand?

Tomato Fight Festival should be on your list.
Then just make sure you are good and pissed.
Take a tomato and whack one in the head.
They could join the above if they turn out good and dead.

Monkey Buffet Festival sounds yummy.
Don't you want monkeys in your tummy?
Could get a neat disease,
Or maybe just fleas.

This one I'd avoid,
Of them the cat is paranoid.
Although Crying Baby Festival may be for you,
Especially if you have one or two.

And if that isn't your cup of tea,
You can grab your baby and flee.
Going to the Baby Jumping Festival around the corner.
Just don't step on little Jack Horner.

I bet some could pass this test.
They have such zest.
They would prove they are the best,
By winning the National Hollerin Contest.

Don't come near my OCD, bud.
I do not want any mud.
But Boryeong Mud Festival could be fun,
If you like that type of thing under your sun.

This one will be all the craze.
You will get there and gaze,
Maybe even graze.
Soaking up Mike The Headless Chicken Days.

I'll skip the Festival of Near Death Experiences this year.
Although I have been there I fear,
The dress code is rather strict.
Bring your own coffin the rules depict.

Ewww ewww ewww.
But that is all the more for you,
As you go to the Testicle Festival event,
Joining 10,000 people eating 4,000 pounds of bull testicles under a tent.

See, there are lots of other fun things to do, and surprisingly, none of these were made up at my zoo. So if you ever need a good festival at your sea, you can now find one thanks to me. On most though I would pass, especially the last one, as it scares my little rhyming ass.

Enjoy your winter, smash a printer.

Pat is the author of over twenty books and his latest is Fight for the Light, available on Amazon.

He also had a little fun with his IWSG post last week!

(Sorry, it’s not real!)

Trivia Time!

And in honor of Pat and his cat, today’s trivia is all about cats.

1 – How fast can a housecat run?

2 – True or false – cats can drink seawater.

3 – What’s the technical term for a hairball?

4 – How many different sounds do cats make?

5 – Which pet is more popular in North America – the dog or the cat?

Answers on Wednesday!

Wormfest!

That’s right, it’s back – National Wormhole Week, March 10-16!

Hosted by Stephen Tremp, L. Diane Wolfe, and Alex J. Cavanaugh.

Kicking off Wormfest week will be the release of Stephen’s third book in the Chase Manhattan trilogy, Escalation.

2014 National Wormhole Week: Name one thing where science advances mankind, and one where technology will go too far and set us back. They can be the same thing or different.

Example:
De-extinction or bringing back extinction species through backbreeding, genetic engineering, and cloning.
With all the breakthrough discoveries mankind is on the cusp of, are we playing God?

Where do you see science moving us forward and where do you see it moving us back? Feel free to quote a movie. (Jurassic Park is a great example.)

Join us below for Wormfest!

  3. I love the poem and almost went to two of the festivals - tomatoes (we were nearby) and the monkey buffet (we didn't want to get the highly recommended rabies vaccine). As for the triva
    1. faster than me
    2. true
    3. hairball
    4. 11
    5. cat
    (all guesses)

  4. I don't know where Pat Hatt gets his energy and wacky creative braincells, but I'd gladly take a droplet of it.

    Happy Monday, Alex.

  5. A house cat can run at speeds up to 40mph.

Cats will often drink seawater as the salt goes well with Tequila, the preferred drink of the most discerning felines.

The technical term for a hairball is Paticus Pukitis.

It is a well known fact that cats can make five million, five hundred thousand and five sounds. Most of these are in the supersonic range and can only be heard by Pat Hatt.

Cats are most definitely the preferred pet in North America and in fact the entire Continent of the Americas. Americans like them because they are individuals. Canadians like them because when skinned, they make a lovely pair of gloves. And in Mexico people like them because taste good on a taco. The are much loved in Argentina as they are good mousers.

  6. I made some typos there Alex, sorry about that. Tell that stinking feline I'll swing by his place after I wake up later today :)

    ReplyDelete
  7. Wow, Angela Orlowski-Peart's cover looks intriguing!

    ReplyDelete
  8. 1. depends on what is chasing it.
    2. they can drink anything. Whether it agrees with them is another thing.
    3. yergch!
    4. the purr, the meow, the where-is-my-food roar, the youch-you stepped-on-my-tail-again, the I-don't-like-boxes-or-vets howl.
    5. the cat. Of course. They do rule the world, after all.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Love the poem! And CassaThunder...looks like it could be a cool book. :)

I don't know any cat trivia...although I should. I would be interested to see if they could drink seawater...

    ReplyDelete
  10. Ha! Well, I'm going to avoid the Testical Festival but I might have a free ticket in my purse to the Crying Baby one:)

    ReplyDelete
  11. Great Poem! My guess at the last question is that dogs are more popular.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Love the Wormhole bloghop idea. I just signed up!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Pat has mad rhyming skilz.

Love the Cassa Thunder cover. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  14. Congrats to everyone on their covers!

Being able to write rhyme is such a talent. Wish I had it.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Alex you know you've made id when you've been parodied :) that's what I thought about last week when I saw Pat's post.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Very funny poem, but I agree on the last part, no Fear Factor for me! I'm not real sure the answers on the cat trivia but the last question asks which is more popular, cat or dog? I am assuming cats. I just read something that said that the most successful blogs in 2013 were those filled with cat pictures.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I signed up for Wormfest--I just hope I remember it in March!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Love Pat's poem!
    Excited for Stephen's 3rd book! :)

    ReplyDelete
  19. I'm tempted for the wormfest, that sounds hilarious. I think that proves that there are official weeks for just about everything now.

And I don't know Pat, the rhymes are hilarious.

    ReplyDelete
  20. That Pat cracks me up. He's a nonstop rhyme.

Yes, technology can be scary, but there's so much that looks exciting, like that heart that they can see with a person's own stem cells and grow a replacement heart that the host body won't reject.

    ReplyDelete
  21. dude,

wormhole week...awesome...hahaha on the cat, cant believe he's go festivaling like this with the OCD at his mat...testicle festival....oh my.....

    ReplyDelete
  22. Jeremy, do you sleep? Glad you got to enjoy some free HBO.

LG, glad you are with us!

Rhonda, I'll give you two and a half right on the trivia.

Anne, that was hilarious! Didn't know cats were into Tequila.

Lynda, if it doesn't agree with them, that's when we get the hairballs.

    Sean, glad you're on board!

Keith, I guess I've made it then.

Gossip Girl, I read that as well about cat pictures.

Sandra, we won't let you forget.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Had to come over and take a look
    at the ninja wannabe's nook
I think Pat had a rhyming fest
and that cat is full of zest
Nice to see his book on display
as the captain sails the bay
perhaps you need a music fest
    playing guitar on your quest

    ReplyDelete
  24. I had a cat growing up whose back legs grew but his front legs didn't so he ran like a rabbit. Needless to say, he was an inside cat. :)

Looking forward to those cat trivia answers….

    ReplyDelete
  25. Great Post (like R) to Alex and Pat
Today rhyming festivals at your mat
Rocky Mountain festivals I've been many times
You can go and eat testicles no need for rhymes
For kicks I might try the fun monkey buffet
Get wild, dance flamenco and shout my ole
The tomato fight festival I never miss
You pelt with tomatoes it's purely Heinz bliss
Thank you host Ninja and rhymes from the cat
A home run by stars as you come up to bat

  26. Pat could play Oingo Boingo's Dead Man's Party as a theme song.

    Looking forward to 2014 Wormfest!

Maybe you could do a cover art for Sharnado vs. Sharktopus.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I love reading Cat and Pat's comments on other blogs, but I always keep forgetting to follow him. Now I have to fix that before I forget again.

That cover and title is so cool, even if it isn't real. You should do a CassaThunder just to use the title.

    ReplyDelete
  28. I'm thinking monkeys in my tummy does not sound all that yummy! lol

    Loved it, Pat!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Pat's rhyme was so full of "fun things to do". It not only made me laugh, it reminded me of the time I had a really weird neighbour who bought his coffin and kept it by his front window for all to see as they passed by! Not many people visited the street!
    Wormfest also sounds like fun.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Testicle Event and Wormhole Fest in the same post? ;-) Only here. I love it!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I participated in the Wormfest last year and really loved the concept. Will be participating again. Have a lovely Monday.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'm horrible at rhyming, or maybe it's my timing! Okay, that was bad.

That CassaThunder cover is pretty cool, though.

    Wormfest sounds like fun!

    ReplyDelete
  33. I bet the Headless Chicken Days are messy.

I don't know the technical term for a hairball, but we clean those up on a regular basis around here.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Thanks for the round-up, Alex. A monkey buffet? Hmmm... Congrats to everybody with new releases and thanks a mil for posting my cover.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I am sorry to say that I do not know much about cats, even though I had one once upon a time. Thanks for keeping us up to date on all the happenings and releases!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I think I might do well in the National Hollerin' Contest. My mother didn't call me one of God's screatures for nothing. :)

Thanks, Alex, for giving Anansi a shout out! So excited.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I love the Wormfest picture! Looks fascinating.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Alex and the cat at the same mat, how about that! I can't answer any of those cat questions, but the last one better be cat :) And the wormhole-fest was fun last year, so I might do it again. Some really cool new releases, too.

    ReplyDelete
  39. A tomato war. An interesting kind of food fight.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Wormhole week sounds really cool, but is going to take some thinking. I think I'm up for it!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Truedessa, I do need to post some music some day.

    Madeline, that's funny!

    Manzanita, you stole R's line!

Stephen, I'm sure that will be a SyFy movie soon...

Jack, CassaNova has also been suggested...

    Fanny, that is just odd.

Liz, I try to be original.

Jay, better at it than I am.

    Joy, you're welcome!

Bish, sorry I forgot last week.

Shell, it is indeed the cat.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Funky rhyme for sure.

Cassa Thunder isn't real? Say it isn't so. That was awesome! :)

    ReplyDelete
  43. Nope not for a few weeks... and then throw in free movie channels. I am the night owl and my eyes are so puffy... bring on the coffee!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Congratulations Pat, don't see you roaming too far from your zoo, so this is a special treat!

All wonderful news for so many talented folk, and Cassa Thunder? Why not!?

    ReplyDelete
  45. Good to see Pat over here! I laughed out loud at the mention of Frozen Dead Guy Days, because I know that all too well. That's about 30 minutes north of here, and every year, people go up there to party with a frozen dead guy. It raises money to keep him frozen for another year. What's not to love?

    ReplyDelete
  46. Answers from me at your sea:

Around 30, but my guy 40-50, thanks to his wild breed

    2. False.
    3. *hhhuuutttt*
    4. 15

I'm trying to use my many years of vast knowledge of being owned by cats to answer these. :)

Great job on the new titles!

    Heather

    ReplyDelete
  48. National Hollerin Day? How could I miss that. And I admit to have attended a Moonpie Festival…

    ReplyDelete
  49. I meant the National Hollerin Contest with that last comment...

    ReplyDelete
  50. Nice rhyme Pat, but I don't think I'll join you and your crazy cat. Those festivals sound rather whack. Not to mention, my cat is lazier than a potato sack.

Ha! Now you know why I didn't pursue a career in poetry or Rapping.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Pat and his cat rock. The only trivia question I think I know is #5 - cats are more popular.

I have to go check out Michael's hop, I totally forgot that was coming up!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Mina, sorry!

    Yolanda, better than CassaNova!

Brandon and Bryan, depending on who he is, that could be a good thing he's frozen.

Pat, you do know your cats! And that was the best rhyme I could create.

Heather, your answer to number three is hilarious!

Christine, you did better than I.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Hehe, Wormfest! I just may have to join in for the simple fact you have Einstein on a snowboard.

Congrats to all the new books out there! And Pat, thanks for that ;) Fun rhymes for such...interesting festivals. I think I'll keep clear of them all...especially Mike the Headless Chicken days. That's just wrong!

    Cheers!

    ReplyDelete
  54. I like cats, hubby doesn't although they like him.

Looking forward to Escalation but don't think I will join the fest.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Love the rhyme.

And I'm curious what the answers to the trivia questions are...I can think of sarcastic answers, but I'm guessing those aren't correct.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Dude! That cover got me all excited! I'm so into this blogfest. :)

    ReplyDelete
  62. I'm impressed by all the rhyming. What a lot of work that must be. And CassaThunder looks badass. Love it!

    ReplyDelete
  63. The one festival you will never see me at is the "Testicle Festival." LOL I'd sign up for the blogfest, but I dropped the ball on the last one. I'll look into signing up when we get closer Alex.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Like Mina, I really liked the fake cover -- you should find a way to do it!

Wormfest sounds interesting. Count me in! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  65. Thanks for inviting the cat whose rhyme I always enjoy/He is very clever and always brings me joy.

    Greetings from London.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Julie, you are correct!

Jen, the badge was all Stephen's idea.

David, I like your answers! Bonus points for saying Ninja speed.

MJ, no, but they are funny!

Maurice, hope you can join us.

Roland, I'll get right on that...

    Cuban, thanks for visiting!

    ReplyDelete
  67. I don't know whether cats or dogs are a more popular pet, but dogs should be. ;)

    * My cat can run VERY fast especially when being chased by the black and white cat who lives down the road.
    * She prefers to drink out of puddles.
    * She makes a particular noise when we open the door to let her in - amazingly it sounds like "thank you."

    ReplyDelete
  74. Pat is a rhyming genius.

Lots of great news and cover reveals out there. :)

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  76. No monkeys or fleas for me thanks ;)

    Awesome rhyme per usual, Pat.

And I'm very curious about the cat trivia. How have these questions never occurred to me before? lol

    ReplyDelete
  77. Dog has to be more popular. I mean, it's the American Pet! But for some reason I think I'm wrong...*off to Google*

    ReplyDelete
  78. The festival poem is so much fun. I think that Frozen Dead Guy thing happens here in Colorado.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Wormfest sounds interesting. CONGRATS to everyone with book releases and cover reveals!

    ReplyDelete
  80. Ah, thank you for the morning giggle. I probably shouldn't have read the poem out loud though with my 6 year old in hearing distance. He keeps saying testicles now, lol

    ReplyDelete
  81. Loved all of Pat Hatt's festivals! His IWSG post was also classic! Congrats to Bish, and all the authors!

    Julie

    ReplyDelete
  82. Crying baby fest...I'm pretty sure that's one I'd skip. :)

Hair-balls - 'clean-up required on Aisle Three. And Four.'

    ReplyDelete
  84. They say dogs rule
    But the cat's no fool

    Making cat ruler of all.

    ReplyDelete
  85. The CassaThunder was very clever. I do follow Pat and he makes me laugh every day.
    I'm in for Wormfest.

    ReplyDelete
  86. That is a lot of rhyme. I admire it, even I can't do it.

I don't know on the Cat Questions. I'm a dog person.

    ReplyDelete
  87. I should know all the cat trivia but I'm ashamed to say I don't - despite working at an animal clinic for 15 years!

    1. considering a cheetah can run up to what, 85mph for short distances? I'm going to guess 20mph or thereabouts.

    2. cat's cannot drink seawater.

    3. See, I should know this but even the veterinarians call them hairballs!

    4. purr, meow, growl, hiss plus the purrmeow and the odd sound they make when watching birds from the window so...6!

    5. I know it used to be the cat but I don't know if it still is.

Congrats to all with new books!
And last but not least - Hi, Alex!

    ReplyDelete
  93. Well, I'm stumped on the cat trivia so I guess I will have to wait till Wednesday to find out the answers. See you then!

    ReplyDelete
  94. 'Or maybe just fleas.' hahaha

1 – How fast can a housecat run?
    Faster than its owner.
2 – True or false – cats can drink seawater.
    Yes, but they won't.
    3 – What’s the technical term for a hairball?
    Gack!-O-M-G-I'm-gonna-kill-that-cat
aka No!-Don't-eat-that! (yelled in parental horror at the baby)
4 – How many different sounds do cats make?
Who can stand to listen long enough to count?
5 – Which pet is more popular in North America – the dog or the cat?
Depends on who you ask... the dog or the cat. :P

Congrats to all with news and new releases! :)

    ReplyDelete
  95. I can only bow down to Pat's prose... I don't know how he does it, but God bless 'm :)

    ReplyDelete
  96. Oh, that Pat Hatt! Clever clever boy/man/cat.

    ReplyDelete
  97. Pat loves his cat
    And that is that
    The guy sure can rhyme
He does it all of the time.

    OK that was pretty bad.

Some great books and covers there and also a few great blogfests.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Marcy, good guesses though!

Cate, you're welcome! And I bet that's a really high number.

    Melissa - hilarious answers!!!

    ReplyDelete
  99. I so don't want to know about the Testicle Festival.

I have a cat yet all I could answer was that dogs are more popular than cats, but even then I wouldn't swear to it.

    ReplyDelete
  100. I'm a terrible cat owner. I can't answer a single one of those questions.

    ReplyDelete
  101. That was one heckuva hilarious rhyme lol!

Been seeing Joy around the blogosphere sharing about Anya and that very nice cover. YAY Joy!!

And I think Bish's cover is just too cute. YAY Bish!

Love to see the new books that have been released. I have been so excited for Cate and Bish, as I have been following their blogs for years and think they are both excellent writers and people. :) I will have to check out the other new releases! Best of luck to all the authors.

    Do cats make 100 sounds?

    Thanks for sharing!

  113. So bowing down to Pat right now! Rhyming an entire blog post is pretty impressive. And I don't think there's anyone who wants to attend that last festival. =)

  127. I've had my first cat for 19 years and know little about them.Except I love her. I did learn a few things just now, that cats make dozens of sounds and can run up to 30 mph(which surprised me)Their tails go straight up in the air if they like you which explains a lot to me. Hairballs are gross, technically termed trichobezoar. Hah, bezoar reminds me of Harry Potter. Congrats to Mike and everyone else with their books. I'll have to check out Worm Fest.

  132. I will have to think on the worm hole thing and get back with you. Don't want to show my ignorance in the science department...could call on the genius boy crew I live with for answers...thinking out loud...can you tell?

Not sure if the trivia is fur real or not. Though, I am going with no to salt water.

  134. 1. Since I had one who seemed to be training for the fricking Olympics, I'm going to say 35mph.

    2. I'm going to say yes...I don't know why.

    3. Hairybilis Ballibilis...

    4. I want to say at least 9: 1) the casual "Hey, pay attention to me Meow," 2) the "Nooo, I don't want to go in the carrier!!!" meow, 3) the "OMG, why are you bathing me?" meow, 4) the "I hate this other cat so much," meow, 5) the occasional bark, 6) the "yes, keep rubbing me, mmmm," purr, 7) the "I'm sleep, though," purr, 8) the I'm allergic to myself sneeze, and 9) the hacking of the Hairybilis Ballibilis.

    5. I'm guessing cats. lol
