CassaStorm Launch and Controversy! Plus Sleepy Hollow, Dr. Who Marriages, Cassa Updates, Ninja News

My final stop this week ends with a bang. I’m invading Tossing It Out, run by one awesome Arlee Bird, founder of the A to Z Challenge. Lee is one of my very first friends I made here online, back when I had less than twenty-five followers. He’s a rock of stability, which is ironic since he likes to toss out interesting and sometimes controversial things on his blog. Which is why this week ends with a bang – in keeping with the spirit of his site, my guest post is on morality in writing. Visit Lee to see what I have to say about it! Lee – thanks and you are The Man!

And CassaStorm’s release week kicks off with prizes every day! Comment between September 16 and 20 to enter. (Ends 6:00 pm EST Sunday, September 22.)
Prizes include:
Cassa mousepad
Cassa Universe poster
Cassa magnet
Cassa mug
Autographed copy of CassaStorm
One person will be randomly selected each day and the five names will be drawn from a hat – first person gets first choice and so on.

Others are announcing CassaStorm’s release, and almost every post features a unique interview question. List of participants on the CassaStorm Page and all links have been updated. So join the fun!

Special posts

So many! It’s been an incredible week. CassaStorm is in the top 100 of Space Opera now! A million thanks. Here are the highlights from the past few days:

I was the featured author in Elizabeth Craig’s Writer’s Knowledge Base Newsletter! You can view it on their siteHERE

Bryan and Brandon at A Beer For The Shower made an attempt to write science fiction following the ship CassaBeer. You have to read it to find out what happens next!

Roland Yeomans gave his most amazing tribute yet – and I smashed a guitar!

Retro Jeremy created a really cool animation. You the man, Jeremy!

Pat Hatt created a video that announced CassaStorm’s release to the world and it’s done in true Pat and Cat fashion. (And for the record, I don’t sing that bad.)

Robyn Engel at Life by Chocolate has always been fascinated with Byron and she wondered what his personal ad would look like…

Cassie Mae let you know what you should be prepared for if I listened to her notes. (She’s my critique partner.) It involves curves and fourty…

And finally, Samantha Geary honored me with a plug on her Audiomachine’s Tree of Life post.

Sleepy Hollow Series Review

The premier was Monday. I was excited to see Clancy Brown. And then sad to see him die so early…
It’s a cool concept, weaving in the occult with the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. (Certainly not Scripturally sound, but just roll with it.) So far it’s a fun show with a good mix and humor and suspense. I look forward to next Monday’s episode. (And if the football game sucks, it will be a welcome alternative.)

Dedication

I wanted to share my dedication in CassaStorm with everyone:

To the readers and the dreamers
and the friends I’ve made along the way.
Byron’s journey would never have come this far
without your support and encouragement!

And it wouldn’t have. This week has been incredible. CassaStorm hit the top one hundred for Space Opera on Amazon. There were so many posts announcing its release and so many encouraging comments. Thanks, everyone. I can’t begin to tell you how humbled and grateful I am. I am truly blessed.

Ready for some controversy? Did you catch those amazing posts? Excited about the news? Catch Sleepy Hollow? Any feedback on the tour? Really like to know what went right…

Be sure to visit Lee at Tossing It Out!

  5. TOP 100 CONGRATS! That did not take long, no surprise :)You have a huge fan base, me included. I did catch Sleepy Hollow through Streaming (Not fortunate enough to get new American shows here without streaming them. I liked the show a lot and look forward to the next episode. Hopefully they will be able to keep the storyline going for more than one season.

  6. CassaStorm is really moving up quick! So glad for you, Alex. And I'm heading over to Arlee's to catch your post on morality.

I taped Sleepy Hollow and then the dvr messed up. Been without TV in the living room and will have to get the dvr replaced, losing that episode! ARGH!

    Heading over.....

  7. Love your covers for the Cassa series, and the stories are solid.

I watched the first episode of Sleepy Hollow and enjoyed it. That's more than I can say for Lost Girl. For that show, I just thought the writers stole my idea.

  8. Congratulations on an awesome week of blog posts and mentions.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Natalie, that hour sucks, doesn't it? Thanks and you're welcome!

Siv, that will be the key - can they stretch it out over the season?

Mike, you'll have to catch it somewhere. Sorry about that.

Thanks JL. And I will avoid that show.

    Thank you, everyone!

  10. I've read The Magic Wakes, so I'll have to check out Stellar Cloud. Thanks for letting me know about it!

  11. Never been first commenter but never been 10th either. Congratulations on making it to the top 100, hope it goes even higher for you. There was certainly a lot of noise about your book this week. It was wonderful to see. Haven't read it yet, don't read much on vacation, but will do so soon.

  12. I didn't watch the pilot episode because I had read that it would be one of those shows that was cancelled early. BUT after reading the surprisingly positive reviews I think I may have to give it a shot!

Loving the whole CassaStorm tour :)

  14. I really enjoyed Sleepy Hollow! I was looking forward to it anyway and it didn't disappoint. I just hope it keeps going strong. :)

    Have a good weekend, Alex!

  15. I think I've learned more about blogging from the CassaStorm tour than in all the rest of the time I've been doing this. [taking notes]

And Clancy Brown is eternally awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  16. The tour has been mega! Just hope you get some good rest over the weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Arlee is such a great guy! Coming up with the A-Z challenge was probably the best idea to bring bloggers together! I'll hop over and visit him.

  20. Is it an impolite question to ask how many copies you did sell? (If it is, you won't have to answer.)

I always interested about how many people buy a given book, because I'm the man of statistics and figures.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I had read that 50 couples were going to get married, and thought what about that 51st couple that you had to tell no to!

    Loved Jeremy's astronaut.
    He does some fine work.

  22. Did I already comment here? I thought I did, but I don't see it. Oh well. Shoot, I forgot what I was going to say. Argh. Wait, I missed 'talk like a pirate day'

  23. Congrats to you to making to the top 100 and to Charity on her release :)

  24. As usual there is too much information to process.
Sleepy Hollow was interesting. So much so that I set my TiVo to record it. Looking forward to Vampire Diaries, The Originals, and Shield. Hopefully ABC won't muck the last one up.

    Annnnd of course Walking Dead

    ReplyDelete
  25. Oh wow, congrats on making the top 100!! That's fantastic. Heading over to Lee's now. :)

  29. Jo, you did it - and thanks, hope you enjoy it!

Optimistic, it still might be cancelled. Stations are so fickle these days.

    Tony, really? Wow!

Nick, I am sleeping in tomorrow!

    Sherry, yes it was.

Zoltan, won't have any idea until my next royalty check.

David, I didn't think about that! Bummer.

    Rusty, that was yesterday.

Huntress, they better not muck it up!

    Clarissa, it appears so!

    Thanks, guys!!

  30. I have teens, I am always ready for controversy. I read a few of those posts. I also like the creativity of Julie from Empty Nest Insider.

  31. Congratulations, Alex! Best wishes as always and much success! I had gone to bed when my oldest came into the room to tell me of Clancy's early demise. Isn't it weird that my oldest and I know Clancy from Highlander, but my 15 year old knows him from SpongeBob? *sigh* I'm ashamed to admit that I must have failed that boy somewhere. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  33. I have to see if I can find Sleepy Hallow online since I have no TV service. The trailer I saw looked good and I've always enjoyed various takes on that legend.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Rhonda, everyone has done an awesome job with the announcement post.

James, you need to fix that! And I knew him first from The Bride.

    Patricia, it's streaming somewhere...

    ReplyDelete
  35. I'm glad the tour is going to well. The sleepy Hollow series I haven't heard much about, then I don't watch tv generally. So If it ever makes it to netflix, then maybe. :) Have a great day!

  38. Haven't tried sleepy hollow yet, I usually wait for the first season of a new show to be done, then if it gets picked up I watch it. Canadians don't count in the neilson viewers thingy anyway. Shield I'll be watching though.

Congrats on getting up in the top 100 so fast too

Congrats on being in the top 100 of space opera!! I know my post on your release of CassaStorm is getting as many pageviews as the post on Fitzgerald's book, The Beautiful and Damned.

  54. Thanks for the mention of our post, and more than anything, we're just glad to hear you liked it.

And congrats on making it into the top 100 of space opera! Earlier in the week we made top 100 of ghost stories, so I'd say we both had a very successful week. So cheers to another great release! We each snagged a copy of CassaStorm, and will give it a read soon. Do let us know what you think of Graveyard Shift, as it has my story from Andrew Leon's world (Axe Through Bone) in it, and I was always curious what you ended up thinking of that one.

  55. A beer for the shower was too funny. I did laugh at that. And I can picture you smashing guitars, but it makes sense that you prefer those that are not yours.
Already visited Toss it Out and Retro. Jeremy did a wonderful job there. Cool. :)

    Cathy, hope so!

Brandon and Bryan, you're welcome! And cool it has that story in it. I'm way behind on reading but will bump yours to the top.

Al, they all did a great job. No, I never smash my own guitars!

Samantha, thanks again for mentioning my book Wednesday!

  58. I'm so happy CassaStorm is a hit already and aiming to go all the weay to bestsellerdom.

The books by Charity and Peaches look good, so I'll keep them in mind.

  63. The top 100 is very impressive Alex! There are a lot of great books in that category like "Ghost in the Machine" and "Enders Game." That Doctor Who wedding sounds great, but here's hoping they don't "regenerate" with new wives later.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Loved your tour posts so far! Heading over to Lee's now to check out the new one. :-)

I am so impressed with your graphic skills. I am not a science fiction fan...but I always enjoy your "pearls" and thoughts on writing. I am however, a HUGE ALEX CAVANAUGH FAN....and consider you a good friend.

Words can never express my appreciation for the support and friendship throughout our family's ordeal with my Father, who had and died from Alzheimer's. Big hugs to you Alex...All the best success to you sir!

    ReplyDelete
  81. Lots going on! Your tour is fabulous--hope you're enjoying it!

And I liked Sleepy Hollow, too--interesting mesh of stuff, but I love the mix of time travel, myth and crime solving. The Biblical end, I am reserving judgment on--it is hard to pull off--Like I liked Supernatural until they pulled all that silliness in, but that just strained my credibility too much (though the eye-candy remained sound)

    ReplyDelete
  82. You have had a busy week! Top 100? Outstanding! Off to Lee's now.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Oh my gosh, I'm behind in my reading!! I just saw your second book and placed my order via Amazon and you already have a third one out! (puts bag over head and mumbles an apology)

  84. Robyn, your want ad was hilarious!

Steven, it's rare I watch a live one...

    Thanks, Michael!

Hart, I might need to leave my brain at the door for some of it.

Aleta, thank you! Hey, you've been a bit preoccupied the past two years. No worries.

  85. The different one question interview thing made each post unique. I think it was a great idea.
I liked Sleepy Hollow also. I'm going to tune in again.
    Congrats on the top 100!

  86. The football game suck? I've never heard of that happening :P

I'll have to consider Sleepy Hollow. It's on Fox so it might actually be worth watching.

  87. Human, Alex,

My human is sleeping and that means I am taking over the commenting.

Aha, I see you are over with that human with the fascination for the alphabark, um, alphabet. I shall not let you know that "tossing" can be very much lost in translation.

It's all good, my human friend. Keep going and hearty congrats. Now I shall go over and delight Lee with one of my comments.

    Links noted, by the way.

  90. Congrats on the top 100, Alex! Rock on! I finished your book this week and I have to say, hats off to you, man. You completely deserve your success. I'll be posting a review about it next week while on vacation, so hopefully some readers who have yet to be touched will read it and pick up their own copy!

PS--I returned four books on Kindle over the past week and a half, so, for me, reading yours from top to bottom is certainly saying something!

  98. I watched the first episode of Sleepy Hollow on the plane, of all places, and was instantly captivated. The plot is so different from anything I've seen before--elements I wouldn't have thought worked together are quite believable.
Sounds like you had a hectic week, but that it's worth it. Congrats on such an auspicious release week!

  103. Hi Alex .. it is great news and shows us all what can be done - I'm so pleased for you and surprisingly for us too ... as we're here for the ride and enjoyment of reading your books after being around the journey with you ..

Happy week ahead .. cheers Hilary

    ReplyDelete
  104. My continued congratulations to you Alex. It's amazing how much support you can get and it's great that you have found it helpful with your writing.

The Sleepy Hollow T.V show sounds pretty good, though all I can think of now is the 1999 Tim Burton movie. That was a great movie.

I'll head over to Lee's blog now and check out your guest post. Controversy is always good. :)

    ReplyDelete
  105. A big congrats to you and your latest release. I was all in with Sleepy Hollow too, but am now re-evaluating it. One more try for me. Have a great week!

    ReplyDelete
  106. Way to go, Alex! I've been a fan of Clancy Brown since Earth2 -- the pilot was solid, might have to watch it during the beer commercials...

    ReplyDelete
  107. I watched 'Sleepy Hollow.' It has a dopey premise and a lot of it doesn't make sense. Like why would the Four Horsemen descend upon a town north of NYC? And was George Washington all that involved with this kinda thing?
    It just seemed silly.
That being said...I loved it and will watch the next episode.
I don't mind putting my brain in park every now and then.

    ReplyDelete
  108. Hi, Alex! CONGRATS on taking the blogsphere by storm - CassaStorm!

I watched Sleepy Hollow twice. Once with my hubby and once with my son. Looks to be a good series.

    ReplyDelete
  109. Yay! Congrats Alex on the top 100. I hope you stay up there a long time.

    ReplyDelete
  110. Great post at Arlee's blog.

Yay for being in the top 100.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Hilary, glad you are enjoying the ride as well.

Bonnee, well, it wasn't quite as good as Burton's movie, but not bad!

    Milo, yeah, football takes precedence.

Al, sometimes parking the brain gives it a chance to recharge.

    Thanks everyone!

  112. Your article on Tossing It Out was wonderful. I missed Sleepy Hollow but heard it was pretty good. The Horseman angle seems interesting. I unfortunately stumbled upon Saf3 and am struggling not to be angry with my husband for it for too long.

  113. Yay for top 100! You've put together an amazing marketing plan! Hubs and I got to see Sleepy Hallow months ago b/c he works for the local Fox news station and they sent them a copy. Actually, one of his ex co-workers had a part in it! We were excited to see it finally air :-)

  114. You deserve a top on the blogger fame. Loved Sleepy Hollow, with its expanded plot lines.

Dr. Who Marriages? Did I miss something?

  115. I recorded Sleepy Hollow and watched it today. I really liked it. It seemed a bit like Supernatural, though. We'll see. The end was funny ---"put your hands on your head"---only it was the headless horseman.

Well done on CassaStorm hitting the top 100!

  119. Hi Alex, Congratulations on zooming up the space opera rankings.

I recorded the Sleep Hollow premiere on a whim and just watched it this evening. I think I'm hooked. I love the chemistry between the lady cop and Ichabod.

  123. WOW congrats on making it to the top 100! I watched Sleepy Hollow too. It will be interesting to see where they take this show each week. I too was sad that Clancy was killed off that early, but I wonder if his ghost or spirit form may make regular appearances.
