2012 Blog of the Year

Patsy Collins gave me my first 2012 Blog of the Year! Thank you, Patsy.

The rules for this are -
1 Select the blog(s) you think deserve the ‘Blog of the Year 2012′ Award
2 Write a blog post and tell us about the blog(s) you have chosen — and ‘present’ them with their award.
3 Please include a link back to this page ‘Blog of the Year 2012′ Award — and include these ‘rules’ in your post (please don’t alter the rules or the badges!)
4 Let the blog(s) you have chosen know that you have given them this award and share the ‘rules’ with them.
5 You can now also join the Facebook group.
6 As a winner of the award — please add a link back to the blog that presented you with the award — and then proudly display the award on your blog and sidebar … and start collecting stars… Unlike other awards which you can only add to your blog once — this award is different!
When you begin you will receive the ’1 star’ award — and every time you are given the award by another blog — you can add another star! There are a total of 6 stars to collect."

Wow! I’m just going to pass this on to one person – Lee at Tossing it Out, because if anyone deserves blog of the year, it’s Lee!

A Big Thank You!

Words cannot begin to describe my thoughts and feelings regarding all of the “Alexfest” posts this week. The funny stories and pictures, the kind words… it was just overwhelming. I didn’t die, but I was touched. And I laughed a lot! Thanks, everyone. My wife saw some of the messages to her, and she thank you as well. And I really appreciated the response to my post here on Monday.

I won’t mention any of the posts here (as a couple more are to appear today) but I will note some exceptional ones on Friday when I announce the winners. And I’ve decided that since selecting just two will be nearly impossible, I’m going to round up the very best (that will be difficult enough), toss them into a hat, and randomly pull two winners. Does that sound fair to everyone?

Thanks again, my friends. It’s just amazing how this blogging community comes together, and I’m honored to be a part of it. Never doubt that one person can make a difference. Even if he’s ”Just Alex.”

Movie Trivia – Christmas Style

1 - What is the name of Rudolph’s dad?

2 – In what city did “A Miracle on 34th Street” take place?

3 – Who played Scrooge in “The Muppets Christmas Carol?”

4 – What is the full name of the BB gun Ralphie wanted in “A Christmas Story?”

5 – What song made Santa’s sleigh fly at the end of “Elf?”

See some interesting news today? Voted for your favorite blogs at A Peek at Karen’s World yet? Picking up Her Heart's Secret Wish? Know any of the trivia? And did you have a favorite “Alexfest” post?

  25. I'm horrid at Christmas trivia, so I got nothing there.

But the blogfest in your honor was pretty awesome. I read several posts as a lurker and thought they were all great.

  31. Rudolph has a father? I'm sorely lacking in the movie dept...

I had a blast reading the Alex tributes. There's no way to pick only two. I think your idea of tossing the best in a hat is a good one.

    ReplyDelete
  32. The blogfest has been so much fun. I agree with you that there's been so many amazing ones. I wouldn't be able to pick just one either. A random hat pick is fair.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I love Rush!!! WOOHOOOOOO. I'm gonna buy the remastered edition.

Thanks for featuring me on the A-Z Gardening blog. I'm totally in shock that I've been nominated for the "Best Kept Secret" Award! Totally cool. Congratulations on your nomination, too!

    ReplyDelete
  36. The blogfest was fun. Still airing out the smell of burnt ninja from my place, but it was worth it. LOTS of comparisons to Jimmy Stewart out there, which I kind of thought was on target. :)

  37. Elizabeth, tell your husband!

Rusty, the posts were amazing. Glad you're back.

Laura, that almost scares me you know all of the answers! Well done.

    Lee, it's uber-cool. You're welcome!

    Optimistic, thank you!

Robyn, you knew the answers as well - good job! And yes, Rush was long overdue that credit.

Sherry, you're welcome, and you were nominated!

    Luanne, burnt Ninja - thanks!

    Thank you, everyone!

  41. I'm terrible with this movie trivia! The only one I knew off hand was #5, mostly because 'Santa Claus is coming to town' is one of my least favorite Christmas songs (only trumped by the horrible 'Santa Baby').

    ReplyDelete
  42. I also missed the Alexfest, but I got around to reading some of the entries and WOW. You really are our ninja captain! Good luck picking out the winners!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Some great blogging news- From Rush to Trivia! Congrats to Lee on the Blog Award!
On the trivia #2 I think the town is Manhattan #4 Is Red Ryder BB gun. I am unsure of the others, sorry. I read so many great posts on Monday it would be hard to pick just one! Great Post!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Thank goodness I read this post. It didn't make sense that Rush would be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. So, they're a band....
I don't think I've ever heard Limbaugh sing a song. And I don't think it would sound all that good if I did.

    ReplyDelete
  45. That is such awesome news about RUSH!!! Well done to the boys (and YAY that the public were able to vote! I hope that's ongoing!).

AlexFest was a heap of fun! And I'm glad you did not die!

Congrats on the blog of the year award - that's not too surprising, lol!

  54. Your ALEXFEST was well deserved. Congrats on your BLOG OF THE YEAR award. I wish great luck to all those whose blogs are in the running for the different categories.

It is sad that RUSH was ignored for so long. Aaargh! Nicki would have to mention "Santa Baby!" Now, it will be maddeningly in my head all day! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  55. This is the most answers I've ever known for one of your trivia quizes. Maybe because I had my own Red Ryder.
I'm still visiting all the blogs talking about you. It was fun.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Yay for Juliana!!
Congrats to your blog of 2012 award. It's much deserved:)
Christmas movie trivia is awesome! I *love* Christmas movies. Old ones, cartoons, cheesy ones, fun ones, whatever! I have to start watching my collection in early November if Iw ant to watch them all before the holiday is over:)

  57. That is cool you are on one of the blogs being voted!

I did find a favourite Alex post, one written by a blogger named Morgen.

And...I don't know any of the Trivia though I think I should know the Muppet one.

    ReplyDelete
  60. You deserved the Alexfest. I just wish I could have participated. I am wondering how I missed it.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I just watched a Miracle on 34th Street so the answer to that is New York City.

The song at the end of ELF is "Santa Claus is comin' to town." At least I think it is.

Congratulations on the blog of the year award and congratulations to Lee for being the next recipient.

I hope you recognize Hart's blog. She had a great tribute to you.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Glad you enjoyed the Alexfest posts. A lot going on this time if year. Not sure I can visit them all, but then again, I'm not a super computer.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I've loved hopping around and seeing all the wonderful things people are saying about you.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I know where to come when I need the news. You are the man! I never try your trivia questions because they are so hard and I don't want to cheat by searching google.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Glad you enjoyed the fest dedicated to you and congrats on getting blog of 2012. As usual you've filled my brain with cool news. Have a nice day Alex.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Okay, Karen's blog awards are news to me today.
    #2 NYC
#4 Well, it's a Red Ryder. But Ralphie has a whole spiel about it in the movie, so I know the name is much longer than that.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Congrats on Blog of the Year Alex, and to everyone who is nominated at Karen's place. I will head over later to cast my votes. Julie

    ReplyDelete
  68. In a hat sounds very fair, Alex. So glad you enjoyed yourself. It was an honour to participate.

    ReplyDelete
  69. So many friends have nominated blogs! Congrats to Juliana! And to you for your first star & award. There were many awesome tributes. Impossible to find a favorite. I'm so not good at trivia, especially holiday movies which I rarely watch.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Jeremy, if you can get Rush to sing a theme song for me, I'll name all the characters in my books after you, even the women.

    Gwen, you're welcome.

Roland, fortunately I have cranked the Rush and drowned it out.

Susan, did you shoot your eye out?

Ink, you have a lot of Christmas movies!

    Rachna, that's all right - I wasn't lacking, I promise.

Michael, you got two. And Hart's was one of the best.

Clarissa, I tried to pick easy ones...

Susan, yeah the name is really long.

    Thank you, everyone!

    ReplyDelete
  71. The last few days have been fun reading these blogfest entries ;) Congrats on the award!

    ReplyDelete
  72. Loved Hart's new lyrics to "Walk this Way" and Shannon Lawrence's flash fiction. But wow, there were a lot of good, funny, sweet, words out there. I have no idea how you could possibly choose. But you've got your clones to help, so there is that ;-

  77. So, I appreciated meeting you when I first found the A-Z 2 years ago, but I will admit that I just haven't really had time to read your blog in depth. Wanted to tell you that I am changing that ASAP, because I have collected a random group of blogging friends through many different challenges/fests/reasons (sometimes just by link chasing at 3 a.m.) and THEY ALL SEEM TO KNOW YOU AND SING YOUR PRAISES! That's awesome. Forget Kevin Bacon- everybody knows you! :)

You are EXTREMELY loved! You have a huge support team behind your back and you return the favor and go the whole nine yards. You're the kind of support I need and I can't thank you enough.

You're more than FAIR. I don't care if I win or not because I got this blog to read as a present. Your posts are the most AWESOME, way better than mine. I could try to do some incredible posts like yours but I will ultimately fail. There will be no line like you!

Now, I'm ready for another part-ay hosted by the Ninja Captain! The 1700 follower blogfest coming up one of these days... will be one of first people to sgin up!

Thanks again Alex for entering my life! I don't know what I would do without you.

  94. Yay, I have arrived before your post reached 100. Then again, by the time I finished typing...

Anyway, justice has been done and Rush have finally gotten into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Although in two minds about such a thing as a blogfest in regards to one person, I however, am delighted you have received such well deserved accolades.

And nice touch forwards on the Blog of the Year to Lee. A man who not only inspires but has brought further awareness of the alphabet!

In our own way, we are all an integral part of this blogging community. All different and all equal in this force for a better world. My honour to know you, Alex.

Gary, yes, about time! And maybe next year we should roast Lee?
It does take all of us together to make this work.

  97. Absolutely Lee deserves many honors. I applaud your choice.

  98. This was a great blogfest! You deserve your own blogfest at least annually for all you do :-)

Thank you so much for mentioning my YA group promo, Gifts Aren't Only From Santa.

Congratulations to Juliana on her new release!

  99. This post was chock full of stuff. Rush in the RnR HOF...'bout time! 2112 was the first concert I ever saw and it was unbelievable. Love the album so I may have to pick up this Blu-Ray set.

Congrats or your blogfest success...not dying is good, your award...6 stars will be yours before you know it, and to Lee for his well deserved reward from his tireless promotion of the A-Z to some very thought-provoking blog posts.

Have a great Holiday season my friend!

  100. Congratulations on the blog award and surviving Alex Fest!

I know the feeling that comes when a favorite band is finally inducted into the Hall of Fame. One of my favorites, The Hollies, were finally inducted a few years ago, and it felt so good watching the ceremony (except for a certain stage-crashing moment during the performance).

  111. Was it a copy of a Winchester? (that's all I remember, re-Ralphie question)

    Congrats on the award!

Your solution to the winning entries for the Alexfest sounds fair to me. I wondered how you would select. And Lee totally deserves any award he gets. I'm looking forward to that A-Z whirlwind again next year.

  112. It's about time Rush made it in! Power to the people!

  118. Look at all those awesome bloggers nominated for these things! I'll have to over there and vote vote vote :)

And I hope you and the Mrs. had fun looking at all those blogs :D

Trivia! (I'm good with Christmas movies, so I'm gonna have a go on this one :)

    1. I used to say Connor, haha! But no, it's Donnor. ;)

    2. Pretty sure that was NY :D

    3. Michael Caine! (Or however you spell his name, haha!) I love that movie. It's a must during Christmas time, even though I have to watch it by myself because my hubby has a phobia of the muppets. I want to get one of Animal and wake him up with it, just to see him freak, ha!

    4. Red Ryder, carbine action, two-hundred shot range model air rifle!

    5. Santa Clause is Comin' to town. (He sees you when you're sleeping...) I never realized how creepy that song was, haha!
