The Big Reveal and the Day the Ninja Died…

You’ve been waiting for this moment for months. I’d like to say I was coerced, but nay, I was TOLD this blogfest event was happening. Hosted by Mark “The Madman” Koopman, ”Marvelous” Morgan Shamy, Stephen “Breakthrough” Tremp, and David “Kingpin” Powers King, here it is:

Or as Mark has nicknamed it, the "Hi, my-name-is-Alex-and-I'm-squirming-with-embarrassment" blogfest.

I’ve dubbed it the Day the Ninja Died blogfest.

I’m going to let Mark tell you about it in his own words:

Aloha,

Ever attended a Christmas party where you bump into the person who was always there for you during the last year. You’d thank them for being such a RockStar, right?

If there’s one person in the Blogisfear who you want to say cheers to, who would it be?

For us, it was a no-brainer: Alex “no hyperlink needed” Cavanaugh.

Alex is an awesome blogger who’s helped hundreds of us via book releases, guest posts, guest interviews and always positive comments. While we can’t have a live part-ay for the Ninja Captain, we can host a BlogFest:

Welcome to the “Cheers, Cavanaugh BlogFest.”

Hosted by Mark “The Madman” Koopman, ”Marvelous” Morgan Shamy, Stephen “Breakthrough” Tremp, and David “Kingpin” Powers King, the BlogFest runs from December 10 - 12.

While Alex is an awesome blogger, he’s also an enigma. J

So, here’s four questions:

In +/- 20 words, what does Alex look like?

In +/- 20 words, who could play Alex in a documentary? (Living or dead.)

In +/- 20 words, who does Alex remind you of?

In +/- 100 words, (excluding the title) write flash fiction using all these prompts:

Cavanaugh
Ninja
IWSG
Cosbolt
Guitar

For Bonus Points:
In +/- 40 words, leave a comment for Mrs. Cavanaugh - thanking her for sharing J

Rules:
Join the Linky List
Be a follower.
Post your 200 (total) word contribution Monday, Dec. 10.
Have Fun!

Two winners – chosen by Alex – will each win one prize:

FIRST PLACE: A signed copy of CassaStar. (Or CassaFire)

GRAND PRIZE*: A picture of Alex and a download of him playing the guitar. (There might be another prize… all depends!)

(*One caveat: Alex asks the picture or download NOT be shared online.J)

The Linky is open until Dec. 12, 2012.

Now the dead Ninja’s thoughts…

When Mark informed me of this blogfest back in September, I was speechless. Literally. (You can ask him.) I NEVER expected anything like this. I’m not co-hosting this blogfest – I AM the blogfest! I’m humbled beyond words.

When I began this journey, I had no idea what would happen. I was just establishing my author platform. I had no idea I would make so many good friends along the way. I couldn’t see more than one book in me, but you encouraged me to keep writing. I didn’t foresee the IWSG taking off and bringing so many writers and authors together. I never imagined I would be so blessed to be a part of this community.

That is why I am so driven to give back to you guys. It took all of you to get me here, and here is far beyond my expectations. I am here before you now as a servant, ready and willing to do whatever it takes to help all of you achieve your dreams.

Thank you Mark, Morgan, Stephen, and David for thinking enough of me to put this blogfest together.

And I want to mention last Friday’s I Miss You Blogfest. I was stunned at the number of people who mentioned me. That meant a lot to me. Julie had a wonderful poem – “A special thanks to our Fearless Leader, Who tends to his devoted ducklings, Like Father Goose on speed reader.” Lisa created an amazing video. Nancy, your words were the most touching. Thank you. And thanks to all who participated. (The links all lead directly to the blogfest posts, so feel free to keep browsing.)

So yes, this is the day the Ninja dies – of embarrassment. (Thanks, Madman Mark!)

Of course, if no one signs up, that would be even more embarrassing…

And if you weren’t expecting this, trust me – neither was I!

  2. This is me wiping my forehead in relief. WHEW! Secrets are hard to keep & I thought I was doing so well. You fooled me though. Anyway, I'm glad the big news is out. No one deserves this more than you. Like I told you earlier, you are glue that holds us together. I don't think we'd all be here without you. So this is perfect, an All Hail To Alex Day! I cannot wait to get started on my entry! Congrats, my dear friend! And enjoy!!!

I must admit this blogfest sounds strange, but maybe it will be great fun. ;)

  5. I think what would be even better is if this becomes an annual event ;) I'm SURE that wouldn't embarrass you anymore! hehe

    ReplyDelete
  6. To be honest, I've always wondered how you look like, so I find the grand prize to be great!:)

    ReplyDelete
  7. I'm with George.

Great idea for a fest! Alex is worthy.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Thanks, Kyra.

Nancy, thanks, and this secret was so unique that there was no way to even reveal it.

Zoltan, it sounded strange to me...

    Thanks, Lee!

    Trisha, dear Lord, NO!

George, that's why Mark suggested it.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Cheers, Alex. I love the idea, although I do struggle with the idea of you being speechless :)

    ReplyDelete
  10. Oh my gos! I can't wait to read the posts of what you look like. In all fairness, I think you should also post, who you think you look like and we'll see who gets the closest guess:)
    Yay Alex!

    ReplyDelete
  11. So awesome Alex. I'll definitely follow along. I'd join in but I already have something planned that day. I guess that's the drawback of scheduling months in advance.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I love it! Can't wait to read the posts...sounds like a lot of fun. And well-deserved, Alex!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Sounds like a great blogfest like a roast of Alex! :) Roll out the red carpet, I think you just went viral! :) And yes, I agree with so many you do deserve this.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Oh, this will be fun!
Guess, I won't be doing a poem, for this one, but I have another idea, lol
Oh, I can see this will be filled with cheer. Yes, an early Christmas gift!

    Congrats Captain!
And I'm definitely in for the bonus round ;D

    ReplyDelete
  15. Congrats, Alex! (As for the embarrassment part, think of it kind of like when everyone gathers around you in a restaurant to sing to you on your birthday...) :)

I'm not able to participate but I look forward to reading everyone's entries!

  16. HA! love it. It's a good way to spread the Ninja love. Count me in!

  18. I'd rather hear you jammin on the guitar than see a vid or photo of you. I already have a clear picture of what you look like in my head, dressed in black with only your eyes showing, sitting in the captain's chair on the bridge of a badass space vessel and blogging from the Wookie Galaxy.
    8-)

Congrats Alex, this is a great idea for a blogfest. (:

    ReplyDelete
  19. I think this is awesome! And I hope participants are allowed to take creative liberties with some of those answers! lol

  22. Rhonda, I was!

    Marta, that would be funny.

Cindy, roasted is what I will feel like...

    Ella, can't wait.

    Madeline, except worse.

Elise, that made me laugh! Don't want to spoil that vision.

Katie, I'm sure most will anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  23. That's really funny and awesome.

If I were president (and I never will be) or ruler of the world (slightly more likely), I would proclaim that blogfests cannot have more than one rule, if any. Just sayin'. And yet I signed up.

    ReplyDelete
  24. What a fabulous idea, you guys! Alex truly is one of the most generous souls on the internet and if anyone deserves his own blog hop, well golly gee willickers, it's the Ninja man himself! YAY Alex!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  25. LOL! Just what does he look like...? Well deserved, Alex.

    ReplyDelete
  26. A blogfest for Alex? What fun!!!!! And if you didn't have a wife, I'd say you are just a mystical force of the Blogpsphere universe... because no one man can be on so many blogs as you are and have helped so many.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Oh my God this is fantastic and hilarious! I couldn't sign up for this blogfest fast enough! David, Mark, Morgan and Stephen - this is genius! You were right Alex - I could not have guessed this. This is far better than anything I anticipated! ;)

    ReplyDelete
  29. Wow, what a tribute! Well deserved I might add. I'm currently reading your Cassastar book and it is truly one of the best books I've read. And I'm not even a sci-fi fan! But you write in a way that appeals to a broad audience, and I agree with everyone else that you've GOT to keep writing.

    ReplyDelete
  30. You SO deserve this! The Ninja Captain rocks and we all appreciate you...so suck it up and quit blushing!

  40. Brilliant! Love the idea. You deserve it Alex.

    ReplyDelete
  41. This is awesome!!! Love it!
One question . . .is this the blogfest that I thought was a Christmas blogfest? Because I've got this confused list of up and coming dates and this seems to be one and the same group of blog hosters.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Sorry about the repeat posts - please delete one . . and then this one!

    ReplyDelete
  43. It couldn't happen to a more deserving guy.

    ReplyDelete

Want to say one more time, how much fun I had at the 'I Miss You Blogfest'. On Thursday I was thinking, 'why did I sign up for this', on Friday when I wrote my post, I thought, "I hope they don't boo at me'. By Friday afternoon I thought, 'Boy I really needed that boost,' Thanks again.

    David, thank you.

Faraway, so glad you enjoyed it.

Cassie, you run with that assumption!!

Thank you, everyone! I am so stunned. Going to crawl off into a corner somewhere now...

    ReplyDelete
  61. Absolutely wonderful. What a great blogfest. Now I understand why it was a secret. They were honoring the ninja. And no one really knows where the ninja is or what the ninja is doing...only that the ninja is everywhere and nowhere at the same time!

    Congratulations, Alex!

    ReplyDelete
  62. Hehe. I can't wait for this blogfest! If they handed out Oscars for blogfest, this would win everything.

    ReplyDelete
  63. You ARE the blogfest.

    ReplyDelete
  80. It's just the coming around of your big circle of awesome karma!

  83. Mark, what a great idea - a party for Alex. Working with Steve for W4Ws the past couple of months, he kept telling us there was something big he was to going to be involved with in December, but he couldn't and wouldn't tell us what. Tight lipped! Yes!
Now I know and Alex, I must say you do deserve a party to celebrate the good things you do for all of us! Enjoy and celebrate! Happy Xmas!

    ReplyDelete
  84. Genius idea guys! You so deserve this Alex I suspect it is going to be mega with a capital M!!

    ReplyDelete

I was very surprised and of course, I had to sign up! I didn't expect it either but it's something that I HAD NEVER HEARD OF and IT HAS NEVER BEEN DONE BEFORE.

BUT, you truly deserved this because your contributions to this writing community are undeniable and we all have to be thankful for you doing it.

We wouldn't be writers, if it weren't for you. We wouldn't be a SOMEBODY in this writing community. You make us, well, known.

You've entered the lives of others and changed their lives. You've changed mine.

What else can I say? I will always come to you for your services. You do SOO good at them.

I can't emphasize this enough: thank you for entering my life. Thank you for your contributions to this writing community.

    ReplyDelete
  97. This one time, I was sitting in the very first Spiderman movie, and it was at that part where Spidey was fighting whoever that bad guy was... Anyway, the fight was pretty intense, and the lady in front of me was squirming in her seat and gasping and ducking, and then finally she yelled out, "Don't Die, Spiderman!!!"

So, all that to say, "Don't die, Ninja Alex." :D

    ReplyDelete
  98. Couldn't think of a better person to be celebrated by a blogfest! :-)

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  106. WHOOOOT! I wish I would have found my way back into the blogosphere long enough to find this. But Alex... it is totally deserved. You're amazing! :D

    ReplyDelete
  107. This is going to be like the Usual Suspects. Because Alex is really Keyser Soze, right?

    ReplyDelete
  108. The winner should get a little trophy of you like the MTV one of the astronaut on the moon but with a guy playing a guitar while writing novels and blog hopping. Not possible?

    ReplyDelete
  109. Of course I'll be signing up, Alex. This is so well deserved by you, the Ninja Warrior Writer Blog King!

    ReplyDelete
  115. Hopping into this blogfest is a no-brainer. Definitely in :-)

    ReplyDelete
  116. Now I know the blogsphere revolves around you. Your own blogfest? That is unheard of. This one will be tough for me since I'm not a real writer. I must try. You deserve it.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Well, this will be a revelation! But seriously, it shows how much you mean to so many. Congrats on the honor, and the posts are going to be hilarious, heartfelt, and inspirational reads. You rock!

    ReplyDelete
  118. looking forward to the fun!!! you should have real good self esteem after all this!!!

    ReplyDelete
  119. Another first for you, Alex. It couldn't happen to a nicer guy. Arlee was worried for nothing ... as if no one would enter!! The ghost of Mark Twain is fuming, muttering, "Where is MY blogfest? Dang it! Who's the literary genius here?"

I reminded him that it was a case of who was more beloved. He flicked the ghost ashes of his cigar into my ice tea!

    ReplyDelete
  120. Love it. The blogfest captain becomes a blogfest unto himself. I first came here when you became a blog of note, and I'm sure glad I did. You do great work!

    ReplyDelete
  121. Oh I love it! We can be creative in our homage! lol Can't wait to read everyone's idea of the elusive ninja captain/blogfather. ;)

  123. What a lovely idea and a great honour, Alex. Congratulations - you deserve it!

    ReplyDelete
  124. This looks like a lot of fun! And I can't wait for the Comedy Central Roast. I'd bring Hostess treats to the party, but there's been a run on all Hostess items at all the grocery stores.

    ReplyDelete
  125. Hi Alex - so well deserved .. as how you cope I've no idea ... and yup - one or two signed up ...

Should be a fun time .. and congratulations to Mark, Morgan, Stephen and David for hosting the Capn Alex show ..

  131. Best line: "Of course, if no one signs up, that would be even more embarrassing…" LOL! Had me smiling on that one. I love the Xmas hats on the icon too. LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  132. Jeff, it will prove something!

    PTM, you can do it!

Roland, I'm sure he's much more loved! Now, don't drink that tea...

    Lauren, thanks.

    JC, hopefully not the last.

    Stephen, just bring Hot Tamales.

Melissa, that many would terrify me...

Sangu, my jaw did hit the floor.

    Mina, mark added the hats.

    Thanks so much, everyone!

  145. Hey Alex!,

Now then, after considerable scrolling, I reach the part where I can leave one of my eagerly anticipated comments and also note and say hello to all those people above me. Hello people and any notable superstar animals. Where was I? Oh yeah....A totally deserved honor, sorry spell check, "honour".
I wish you well and know that you are positive light within this all different, all equal blogging community. If I wasn't having some ongoing problems in my 3D world, I would have participated. I guess you can look on the good side of me not signing up. It wouldn't be fair to the rest. Note my humbleness :)

  148. Really! This sounds like so much fun. I'm going to try and sign up but time is a busy person for me right now. Traveling, the holidays, my workshop, moving, new job adjustment plus various other obligations. If I can squeeze the time through a sift and find a few extra minutes, I'll hop over and sign up. May be at the last minute, though... Happy Thanksgiving :)
