Genre Favorites Blogfest and Ninja News!

Today is the Genre Favorites Blogfest!

But before we dive into the fun...

Ninja News!

Big thanks to those who voted for CassaStar and CassaFire on Goodreads’ BestScience Fiction/Space Opera. Last I looked, CassaStar was number three and CassaFire number four! That is just awesome, as I know the ranking will gain them even more exposure. My books are now in very good company. And if you missed my post on Friday and would like to vote to move the books even higher, the link is HERE. (And CassaFire could use a little help!)

Cate Masters kicks off her blog tour today for Death Is A Bitch. Congratulations on the new book, Cate!

Milo James Fowler just sold another short story and has a sixty-one percent success rate. (Yeah – whoa!) To celebrate all that and passing the three hundred sales mark, he is giving away his short story collection 1 Dozen on Amazon. Congratulations, Milo – you are an inspiration!

Genre Favorites Blogfest!

One blogfest, four favorites!
List your favorite genre of:
Movie
Music
Books
And a guilty pleasure genre from any of the three categories!

My favorite movie genre: Science Fiction

I’ve always had a fascination for space, adventure, and imagination. Look up at the stars – not only is our universe vast, but anything is possible. To watch those possibilities unfold on the big screen is pure magic. For two hours, I get to live the dream! (Without the risk of being blown out an airlock or anything.)

My favorite genre of music: Progressive Rock

Prog rock features complex dynamics. It’s not simple – it challenges you as a listener. With each listen, I discover more layers and the music gets better. Prog rock resonates and stays with me for many years after that first listen. Unlike popular music, it continues to sound fresh. As a musician and guitarist, I appreciate the work involved and the incredible results.

My favorite book genre: Science Fiction/Fantasy

I read to escape, pure and simple. Those two genres provide an opportunity to let my imagination roam free. Don’t need heavy details – just enough to drop me in a new world and allow my mind to envision a place beyond reality.

My guilty pleasure genre: Romantic Comedy Movies

Yes, I risk losing man-points! Romantic comedies are all cliché and feature the same formula plot. But if the leads are good and possess chemistry, I enjoy these films. Hey, there are benefits to watching these movies with your wife…

Thanks to all the participants today and those who helped spread the word. You can still join us – sign up list is below. Be sure to visit others participating in the blogfest.

Thanks again to everyone who voted on Goodreads! Following Cate’s tour or picking up Milo’s book? And what are YOUR genre favorites??

    ReplyDelete

  9. Realy; your post has been up 60 minutes and I'm #9 commenter? Weird . .

As weird as romantic comedies - but not totally. I mean, I see how you talk about your wife, your love, your passion. A geek like you has to get inspiration somewhere, lol.

I'm still waiting on a Ninja Guitar Solo . .

    .......dhole

  10. Thanks for the blogfest Alex! And I like RomComs too. Well, most of the time...it needs to actually be funny.

  12. I need to find a guy who will admit he enjoys romantic comedies. Although they didn't make my list, they really are great "comfort food." Thanks for the fun blogfest, Alex!

    ReplyDelete
  13. Thanks for hosting the blogfest! I almost forgot about it if it weren't for Roland posting his early. Of all the Alien film series, my favorite was Aliens.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Great blogfest, in the process of changing blogs didn't know about it. I have now signed up and will write later in the day,

    Yvonne.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Surprised to see romantic comedies on your list! But, if they're good, they're also common ground for my husband and me to enjoy, too.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I like reading fantasies best too. And watching movies in that genre though I like romantic comedies too. Great list Alex.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I just commented on Ciara's blog that my post goes live in (now 11 minutes) and after reading her post, I have *completely* missed the point of the Blogfest...

Yes, I do read English... apparently I need to work on concordance and I have a lot of learning to do?

    Sigh... :)

Ps... Progressive Rock... (is that what they call the "'80s" these days :)

    ReplyDelete
  18. You have gained man points in my book on that last one.

    ReplyDelete
  19. So far, I think everyone's guilty pleasure is Romcom. :)

    ReplyDelete
  20. You were number two when I went to vote just now! WOO HOO!!!!! Way to go, Alex!

    ReplyDelete
  21. LG,succumb to that urge!!!

Denise, I can't be too predictable.

    Lurker, good for you!

Lynda, saw your choices - yes we do!

    Siv, very good point!

Donna, yeah she is. Guitar solo may be coming soon...

    Kitty, just don't tell anyone!

    Elise, mine as well!

    Yvonne, glad you're with us.

Mark, then I can't wait to read your post. And never! Progressive is progressive, not stuck in the 80's.

    Brinda, good to know.

    Cathy, really? Whoa...

Glad everyone is enjoying the blogfest!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Congrats on your success with your Cassa series! I bet your smile is a mile wide.

I second your genre choices, all good. You could watch/read/listen to all of them in my house.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Great choices!

I've voted on Goodreads and downloaded Milo's short story collection. Thanks.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Everyone loves rom coms really, that's why there is so many of them! Gz on your book being awesome :)

    ReplyDelete
  25. Just posted my entry. Hope you don't ninja chop me for breaking the rules! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  26. Doesn't surprise me at all that your favorite genre is science fiction fantasy! If I'd been able to participate, no one who knows me would be surprised to see that heist movies are some of my favorite! Though, I love romantic comedies too!

    ReplyDelete
  27. Congratulations on your books. Those are some pretty high rankings. I really enjoy romantic comedies as well. It was so difficult to pick just one genre for everything.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Arrgghh! This is what happens when I don't blog or awhile...I miss these blogfests. And I'm sure your wife doesn't mind your losing your man pants.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Ok, you've confirmed what I know. You're a sci-fi junkie. I won't even pretend to understand rock music. Didn't know about the 'progressive rock' category.

    ReplyDelete
  30. great choices =)
never heard of progressive rock...is that like saturday night live sprocket music? hee hee

    ReplyDelete
  31. I have to admit, I need to look up progressive rock. Although I listen to music all the time, I don't know what all the classifications mean. I'll google it.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I enjoy rom coms too! They're about hope for the most part - and we all need more of that!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Awh he's a romantic at heart! My hubby loves Serendipity too. The other choices are news to me, I confess.
Congrats to Milo who is my No 1 inspiration and Cate. I love that title!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Alex,

I think I messed up the "Blog-fest" in two ways... I made mine very too specific and my name sounds like a darn advertisement. Though I am having fun, people who know me... know I am an odd bird.

Your choices are choice... well played on the music...

  35. Huntress, I'll be right over then!

Cally, no Ninja chop, I promise.

Leigh, she doesn't mind at all...

JL, you learned something new today then!

    Tara, no no no no!

Suzi, you'll be surprised by the amount of bands in that genre.

    ReplyDelete
  36. Congrats for your awesome success!

My hubby loves the romantic comedies too, altho he'd never admit it to the guys. When Harry met Sally, Sleepless in Seattle, etc. It's good to have films hubbies and wives can enjoy together. And my guess is there's a lot more men out there who enjoy them or they wouldn't be so popular.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Romance, we are all suckers for a good love story, love that!

    Aliens, another favorite.

    Great blogfest!

    ReplyDelete
  38. It seems there are a lot of likes for Aliens amongst us! Thanks for hosting Alex!

    ReplyDelete
  39. I'm sorry I'm not able to participate in this blogfest but I'm enjoying what I've seen so far! :)

One of my favorite romantic comedies is "Music and Lyrics."

    ReplyDelete
  40. Yeah, getting blown out an airlock's gotta hurt. :)
Congrats on your numbers and to Cate and Milo!

    ReplyDelete
  41. there is just something about romantic comedies :)

    ReplyDelete
  42. Romantic comedies is sweet. And I almost picked science fiction for movies.

    Congrats on your books!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Good morning Alex - you are such fun! I've posted my answers - and I checked on Goodreads and you're up to #2!

    ReplyDelete
  44. Romantic comedy - I wouldn't have guessed that! Thanks for hosting a fun blogfest! That's exciting you are up to #2 on Goodreads already!

    ReplyDelete
  45. I should have copy and pasted your post and slapped my name on it. Great stuff - well except for the rom coms - I still watch lots of them though.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Great blogfest! Nice to learn more about you.

    Happy Monday!

    ReplyDelete
  47. I was nodding through your favorites saying, "Yes, no surprise there," when lo and behold you threw a zinger. Romantic comedies, huh? Would not have guessed. (smile)

Thanks for organizing this blogfest, Alex. It's going to be so much fun to visit the other blogs and see the other favorites. Probably not much of a surprise to see mine.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Jeremy, nah - it's fine!

Pk, well, I just admitted it to everyone!

Laura, I imagine it would leave a scar...

Sheila, I saw that - whoa!

    Rusty, you still can!

Thanks everyone and glad you are enjoying the blogfest. It will take me all day to visit everyone, but I will!

    ReplyDelete
  49. The Sword of Shannara was my first ever fantasy novel and was a hard one to beat.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Romantic comedy? Really Alex. Haha. I love it.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Romantic comedy? Really Alex. Haha. I love it.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Oh, no. You just GAINED man points. At least with the ladies. hahaha

Thanks for hosting this, Alex. It was a lot of fun. :)

    ReplyDelete
  53. I get tricked into watching Romantic Comedies too. And I end up like some too. Sleepless in Seattle is still one of my all time favorites. Cheese, I know, but I love it.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I guess I could have predicted your favorites--except maybe for that guilty pleasure. Nothing wrong with a good romantic comedy now and then.

  55. Rom Com! I never would've guessed...hey, perhaps there hope you'll actually enjoy Three Daves after all.

I just voted and CassaStar is only 1 vote away from tying for #1!! (I voted for M. Pax while I was there too.)

    ReplyDelete
  56. Congrats on those rankings! That's darn good.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Smart man, picking up on that last one. :)
Thanks for the shoutout about the tour! I'm off to check out Milo's book

    ReplyDelete
  58. I am a big fan of comedies, even the romantic comedies, nothing wrong with a guy who likes them. :) Thanks again for a great bloghop.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I have to be in the mood for it but on occasion, I do like a good romantic comedy.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I like some Rom Coms. And SciFi will always remain high for me too as the world "as is" becomes too boring and mundane.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I think you GAIN man points by enjoying romantic comedies. And any man who can cry at the end of good movie gets even more!

Thanks for the great blogfest, Alex.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Ninjas bring it and you didn't disappoint ;D

I love your picks~ Sorry, I'm late to the gig! There was drama at my house-yes, that is a clue, lol

Fun blogfest-I'm off to make the rounds~

    ReplyDelete
  63. You and my significant other share the same taste in music.

And I agree with Bish... I think you gain man points for enjoying rom coms. =)

    ReplyDelete
  64. Hey, Alex,

ANOTHER thing we have in common. TOO funny we both admit that our guilty pleasure is romantic comedy movies!

    Great minds ....

Having a great time bopping around the blogosphere reading the entries. Thanks for hosting!

    ReplyDelete
  65. Alex, I'm shocked! You actually like that stuff? I mean, really -- science fiction!?!?

    LOL! Yeah, me too.

And no deducting man-points from me for the romantic comedy. I've watched more than my fair share, too. Also, being married to a great woman, I'vee seen "The Notebook," "Sense and Sensibilities," and "Fried Green Tomatoes" more than a few times, too. A man's gotta do what a man's gotta do. ;^)

Also -- I dig Prog Rock, too. Rush, Kansas, Yes, Genesis (with Peter Gabriel), King Crimson (especially the version w/ Adrian Belew), King's X, Dream Theater, and others. I do lean more towards the guitar-based bands than the synth bands, but hey -- that's understandable, huh? ;^)

    Fun blogfest!

    ReplyDelete
  66. I didn't pick SciFi as my favorite movie genre but the graphic you posted was certainly one of my favorite movies. I loved Sigourney Weaver's Ripley.

    ReplyDelete
  67. Thanks for hosting a great blogfest Alex! My husband likes Dream Theater too, but after about, oh 30-45 second, I just want to *headwall* *repeat*

I guess that is why they invented earphones. To save marriages.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Like LD, ALIENS is one of my favorite Sci-Fi movies -- which makes me truly loathe Aliens III. I pretend the following Alien movies are just nightmares Ripley is having in cryo-sleep!

I love KATE & LEOPOLD with Hugh Jackman and the blonde whose name suddenly is eluding me! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  69. I have to say that you liking Sci-fi was not a shocker. ;) But I like you fess up to Rom-Com. (That's the correct term, right?)

    ReplyDelete
  70. Science fiction? You surprise us, Alex :-)

I'm not sure I've actually listened to any prog rock... time to try?

    ReplyDelete
  71. Shoot! I missed the notice for this blogfest, otherwise I would have joined. My bad. Maybe next time (btw, we share many of the same interests). :)

    ReplyDelete
  72. Omg, romantic comedy? I really didn't expect that! So nice that you're being honest here ;)
The rest--Sci-fi, progressive rock and fantasy--I would have guessed ;)

    ReplyDelete
  73. Love romantic comedies. I've seen Serendipity way too many times :)

    ReplyDelete
  74. Oops. I did favorite TV shows instead of music...my bad. Remembered the details wrong. My favorite music is the rock music of the golden days of rock: the classic bands, Bruce, The Eagles, Pink Floyd, Rush, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, etc. Anyway, thanks for hosting! My post is here:
    Tina @ Life is Good

    ReplyDelete
  75. Great choices. I didn't do it quite right either, I went more specific, but had fun with it. That's most important, right? And I made sure to vote. :)

    ReplyDelete
  76. Maryann, I have to keep people guessing!

Roger, that's exactly how I feel!

Melissa, well you are the ones who count...

    Nicki, thanks! Wow...

    Cate, you're welcome.

Bish, not admitting to any crying...

    Michael, now everyone knows...

Chris, saw your pick for music and it didn't surprise me. We can both appreciate excellent guitar work.

LD, it's one of my favorite movies.

Roland, Meg Ryan. And after Aliens I just pretend the rest don't exist.

    Annalisa, yes!

    David, sorry you missed it!

    Tina, that's all right!

Thanks everyone. Off to read more entries now...

    ReplyDelete
  77. Well, not so much on the progressive rock, but I'm with you on the guilty pleasure movies.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I am going to need clarification on the book one. Scifi/fantasy is not specific enough. Do like, distopian futures, post apocalyptic nightmares, hard sci fi, space opera, steam punk, cyber punk, military scifi, sword and scorcery, urban fantasy, or light fantasy.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Great choices! Love your comments on each. I think being able to get lost in a scifi world without risking the airlock is good too!

Thanks for hosting this fun fest!

And congrats to Milo on his success rate!!! That rocks!

    ReplyDelete
  80. Great choices, Alex, and I suppose I'm with you on your guilty pleasure choice, much as I hate to admit, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Such a fun blogfest. Thanks for hosting! I am just beginning to embrace science fiction, and it's quickly becoming a favorite. Love your choices!

    ReplyDelete
  82. woo hoo! No surprises here--LOL! Even the romcom has Kate in it. Too funny, and a fun fest~ :D <3

    ReplyDelete
  83. Oh, I totally missed the Goodreads voting but just voted now and saw that CassaStar is now #1! Congrats!!

Looking forward to reading the entries for the blogfest. :)

    ReplyDelete
  84. Nice choices, Alex (Re-Alien, does that mean you liked Prometheus since it is like a prequel to Alien?)

Funny about your guilty pleasure, but my hubs sometimes likes romantic comedies more than I do. Now I know why.

Great news about your books! and yes, I do plan to download Milo's books.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Funny how so many of us think of romantic comedies as guilty pleasures. I love the British variety best. Fun blogfest, Alex. Can't wait to make the rounds.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I'll make sure to head over to Goodreads!

I love sci-fi too, it was a toss up for me between that and Action/Adventure movies.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Romantic comedies are the best. I would have never thought you liked those. Love your choices!

    ReplyDelete
  88. Budd, space opera and epic or sword and sorcery. Some light fantasy as well. Better?

    Mshatch, what can we say?

    Tia, that's good to know!

LTM, that's why I picked that one!

    Julie, really??????????????????????

    DG, no, didn't like it.

Thanks guys! Still making the rounds, so please be patient. I really will visit everyone on the list today.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Honestly, what isn't there to like about speculative fiction (encompassing sci-fi and fantasy) in both books and movies? Everything else tends to look boring in comparison (in my opinion).

    ReplyDelete
  90. i like romcoms but it's been a while since I saw a good one, Jennifer Aniston and Katherine Heigl seem to be doing their best to ruin it for everyone.

Great choices. I love romantic comedy too.
    Nancy

    ReplyDelete
  92. You know I'm following that link!
The only place we have to part ways on your choices is the romantic comedies. I'll watch 'em if I have to, but it would never be my idea.

    ReplyDelete
  93. Great choices! I love Aliens, it's the best sci fi flick ever. :) I do love the odd romantic comedy, especially When Harry Met Sally. I still love watching whenever I can.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Thanks, Alex for this blogfest! I like romance novels, and for movies definitely comedic romances, Country is my favorite music genre and when I am writing, it is definitely classical I want to listen to-- and as far as a guilty pleasure, I'm not certain I should say...okay, you twisted my arm-- I have a sweet tooth and CHOCOLATE is the answer, what goes better with a romance novel than chocolate! Cheers! -Virginia

    ReplyDelete
  95. Yes, romantic comedies are fun too and about the only movies I can get my husband to watch with me. Our all-time favorite is Overboard, which I also classified as a family-oriented feel good movie for my blogfest post..

    ReplyDelete
  96. I love that you watch rom-coms. And I'm glad you're man enough to admit it!

Thanks for the fun blog hop, Alex!

    ReplyDelete
  97. Moody, that made me laugh!

Pat, it's usually not my idea, but I always enjoy them.

    Patricia, I remember that movie.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Scifi/fantasy :))) I do like comedies too, but any kind. I like Batman type movies as well. Classics too. Gosh, basically anything!

    ReplyDelete
  99. I think I exist in too many subcategories.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Definitely no man points lost! You're just thinking ahead! ;) LOL.

    And I'm laaaaaughing at Mark's 80's comment...

    ReplyDelete
  101. You really LOVE Science Fiction. Thanks for hosting this, it was fun to take part in. I have never heard of progressive rock but it sounds interesting when you talk about it. My guilty pleasure is Animated Movies.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Wow, my guilty pleasure is romantic comedies too!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  104. Hi Alex .. just about anything is a treat ... love good movies, mystery-investigative novels, music from the 60s and 70s .. but not all

I should have entered the blogfest - did not realise my post tied in perfectly ...

    Cheers Hilary

    ReplyDelete
  105. You get huge man points with your woman for liking romcoms. I actually like them too. Pretty Woman, Notting Hill, Green Card, While You Were Sleeping--some great films. I say more power to ya!

    ReplyDelete
  106. Congrats on the Goodreads ranking Alex! I feel romantic movies are a lot like action movies. We know how it's going to end. We just want to see how it gets there.

    ReplyDelete
  107. Wouldn't have taken you for a Romantic Comedy guy, but your wife is very lucky.

    xoRobyn

    ReplyDelete
  108. Oh, man, Serendipity! That movie drove me nuts...but in a good way. I think. :)

    ReplyDelete
  109. Look at you above 'Hyperion,' 'Ender's Game' and 'Foundation!' Wo-ow!

    ReplyDelete
  110. Hey. You don't lose any man points with me on the romantic comedy.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Great genres. I can see how there would be benefits to watching those with your wife. :)

    ReplyDelete
  112. Thanks for hosting this blogfest! I'm totally with you on your assessment of popular music. I can't listen to that stuff. There's no substance! That's why I like classical - there's more depth. Your choice is pretty cool, too.

    ReplyDelete
  113. I love Progressive Rock, especially Pink Floyd and many more.

    ReplyDelete
  114. Voted. I'm seeing this all over the blogosphere.

  122. Sabrina, I'm working my way to it!

    M Pepper - yes!!!

    ReplyDelete
  123. Romantic comedies are great and you always feel so happy afterwards. I also agree with you about reading to escape. Here I thought I was the only one avoiding the popular novels.

    ReplyDelete
  124. HaHa! My husband gets major man-points for watching romantic comedies with me - and he knows it! As you said, there are benefits...

    ReplyDelete
  125. Great blogfest today, ALEX!! ALIENS. That's a great one.

    ReplyDelete
  126. What a fun blogfest! I'm late but I'm going to join in the fun!!

    ReplyDelete
  128. Thank you sir, this has been great fun and I'm not done yet.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Wow, a 61% success rate! Color me impressed.

I enjoy sci-fi/fantasy with a little less of the detail. Not completely lacking, just not pages of notes on how this particular virus/machine/what-have-you works.

    ReplyDelete
  130. I think science fiction wins for the most picked genre. Congratulations on having awesome blog buddies with such great taste! As well, of course, as great taste of your own.

P.S. I LOVE Dream Theater. So few of my friends even know about them, but what awesome music. And who doesn't like a good romantic comedy now and again :)

    ReplyDelete
  131. Alex! You get high points for mentioning that your GP is Romantic Comedies! That's incredibly cool. Love it.
Thanks for the blogfest too. :)

  132. Murees, you're not alone.

    Gwen, that's right!

    Kelly, please do!

SL, Dream Theater has been around for over twenty-five years! Their fan base is devoted though.

  133. Lol ~ I love that you like RomComs! :) But, I agree - they only REALLY work if the leads have chemistry. Fun blogfest! I'm sorry I haven't been more on the ball with my blogging and missed out... but a few of my favorites, hmm: Movies - I'm torn between sci-fi and fantasy...LotR or Star Wars?...HP or Serenity? I can't choose.

Books are easier - YA fantasy, hands down.

Music - another tough one. I listen to everything and my favorites depend on my mood that day.

Guilty pleasure: movies or tv shows where my favorite actors are shirtless. Yeah. I'm a bit shameless that way... :)

  134. I love that, lose man parts!I'd have to say the opposite is true- you have to be pretty secure in your masculinity to admit you like
    Serendipity.

    ReplyDelete
  135. There's absolutely nothing wrong for a guy to admit he likes romantic comedies!

    ReplyDelete
  136. Romantic comedies are fun. I do luvs me the sci-fi, too.

    ReplyDelete
  137. What a fun blogfest and a fun list.

    ReplyDelete
  138. Great favorites! Also, a great turnout! Thanks for hosting this, Alex. PS. I guessed Sci-Fi as a favorite of yours. Lol

    ReplyDelete
  139. Thanks for the fun blogfest, Alex. :)

    ReplyDelete
  140. Donea, go with science fiction! And that last one made me laugh.

Melanie, I'll go with that then!

    Miranda, was it obvious?

    ReplyDelete
  141. Romantic comedies?
To be honest it could have been worse :-)

But I'm sure you surprised a lot of people.

    ReplyDelete
  142. Thanks for hosting Alex. This has been fun! I voted for you today and I have to agree with your guilty pleasure. Serendipity is one of my favorites too :)

    ReplyDelete
  143. I like romantic comedies, too.
And I noticed the movie pic you used has Kate, your celeb crush, in it. :)

    ReplyDelete
  144. Thank you for a fun blogfest! Congrats on the Goodreads ranking too!

    ReplyDelete
  145. I was out of it on Friday so I just now voted for you on Goodreads. You're #1! And you deserve it.

My movie tastes are kinda all over the place, but my fave is Raiders of the Lost Ark. Books -- general fiction, thrillers, a little sci-fi, some paranormal, and lots of nerdy non-fiction history. Music: R&B, rock, some pop, lots of classical, just a little jazz and more blues.

    ReplyDelete
  146. Cool! Well done on the Goodreads competition!

I like prog rock too although I don't analyse it the way I'm guessing you do. I just like to sit back and enjoy.

    Jai

  147. CassaStar is #1 on the list now! Congratulations. :)

Romantic comedy can be fun to watch.

Thank you for hosting the blogfest!

    ReplyDelete
  148. Loved your list! :) I still have a deep love for progrock ever since falling in love with one song: Marillion's Kayleigh. My favorite progrock album is by Genesis, though :)

Romantic comedies are fun, my husband and I love to go to them too :) Great lis!

    ReplyDelete
  149. Edi, I did!

    Thanks, Heather.

Helena, thank you. And Raiders is the perfect adventure movie.

    Jai, I'm a musician - I analyze.

    Thanks, Golden!

    Sylvia, Marillion is amazing.

  150. Great list, Sir Alex. There is nothing wrong with watching rom/com! We won't hold it against you.
    Great blogfest idea...as usual!
    Heather

    ReplyDelete
  151. I knew you'd pick prog rock :) Thanks to you, I'm getting a little more into that genre, though I don't think I could stray from power metal too much :)

  152. I'm not huge on science-fiction films...I had seen Prometheus this year and that just killed my liking of them. I will still see them but not the horror sci-fi. I love E.T. The Extraterrestial.

I like comedy films, too sometimes. Comedy films can sometimes make me laugh but they gotta have romance to make the watch worthwhile.

    ReplyDelete
  153. I knew deep down you were a softie for those romantic comedies.

    ReplyDelete
  154. Thanks, Heather!

Jamie, you need more suggestions, let me know. Just picked up a new one that is amazing!

Livia, don't judge the genre by that mess of a movie!

    Susan, just don't tell anyone...

    ReplyDelete
  155. I don't judge the genre by the mess of a movie. I like a few sci-fi films, don't get me wrong, I do.

    ReplyDelete
  156. Maybe, just maybe your wife might have an influence on the rom com love!?!

Btw, this has been one of my favorite blogfests. Love reading everyone's choices.

    ReplyDelete
  157. Hey, Alex. Thanks for the blogfest. I'm sure it'll take the week for me to get through the list, but I'll have fun doing so and meeting new people.
Did I tell you we named our orange cat "Jones" because he looked exactly like the cat in Alien? I realized after you visited my blog this morning that I failed to name Rush as one of my bands. I could have earned major points with that! Lol!

  158. It is absolutely hysterical to me how many guys secretly like romantic comedies. Great picks, Alex! And thanks for visiting my blog! :D

    ReplyDelete
  159. Damn it, I hit a couple of curves and I miss the train. This is my kinda thing too, love to hear favorites! I was not surprised at your choices Alex, except for the Romcom, that one must be thanks to the wifey! Great blog tour idea!!

    ReplyDelete
  160. Johanna, glad you've enjoyed it from the sidelines.

James, the list links all lead directly to the posts, which should help. Cool name for your cat. And you should've mentioned Rush!

Leisel, we just don't brag about it.

    ReplyDelete
  161. Today's comment from me will be refreshingly short.
Love Progressive Rock, "Yes", I do.
    That is all....
    Gary :)

    ReplyDelete
  162. You do not lose man-points for loving RomComs. You only gain them. :) Ask any girl I know.

    ReplyDelete
  163. Hi Alex, Thanks so much for hosting this Blogfest! Very fun : ) I love science fiction/ fantasy- it can just whisk me away to another world! ~ Jess

    ReplyDelete
  164. Thanks for hosting another great event. In my humble opinion, your guilty pleasure earns you some man-points.

    ReplyDelete
  165. Hi Alex - thanks so much for hosting yet another great blogfest! These things are heaps of fun!

I've voted for your books today at Goodreads. Good luck climbing the ladders! :)

I love your genre picks here! Though I have to say that while I am definitely a romcom fan, I am NOT a fan of that movie Serendipity ;)

    ReplyDelete
  166. Gary, you are awesome!

Liz, that's what my wife says.

    Susan, I value your opinion!

Trisha, thank you! And it wasn't a great movie, but it did have my Kate in it.

    ReplyDelete
  167. I'm not surprised by the science fiction! :) Yep, I enjoy Prog Rock, too. I'm familiar with many genres of rock with a lead singer and guitarist of a metal band for a son. :) Great blog fest. I've just started making the rounds. Yep, I'm late to the party.

    ReplyDelete
  168. Glad to see you're a romantic. Serendipity was great!

    ReplyDelete
  169. You surprised me with the Rom Coms. I loved Serendipity.

    ReplyDelete
  170. Never would have guessed you liked romantic comedy:) Just learned something new.

    ReplyDelete
  171. My choice has been made and posted!
    Go check it out!
Thanks for the chance to participate!

    Cheers!

    ReplyDelete
  172. And I missed your blogfest! I was so meaning to sign up and do it, but of course surgery messed everything up. Maybe another blogfest I guess.

Anyway, Fantasy and Sci-fi, but especially fantasy are definitely my favourite reading genres. All those new worlds are very compelling.

    ReplyDelete
  173. I bestoweth upon thee any man-credits to cover any man-points you may lose due to admitting thine guilty pleasure for rom-coms :-)

But for real, I think it's cool. If your wife enjoys them, then that makes for some lovely evenings of snuggling, wuggling together as you watch a rom-com together.

    ReplyDelete
  174. Excellent choices. Sorry I could not participate in your blogfest (you know how much I admire you) and love participating , but I am just too loaded down right now. I will jump over to goodreads and rate your books. It will be an honor.

    ReplyDelete
  175. Thanks for hosting this blogfest, Alex! It was a lot of fun. I can't imagine how you visited 200+ blogs today. You're pretty amazing. Thanks for all the work you put into it. :)

    ReplyDelete
  176. Prog rock is good, and prog metal in better; bands like Opeth, Anathema and Tool >:)

    Cold As Heaven

    ReplyDelete
  177. I also like rom-coms and this fact only adds to your appeal! Congrats on rating so high on Goodreads! I just joined and voted for you. Sorry I couldn't participate in this amazing blogfest, but I look forward to reading many of them. Julie

    ReplyDelete
  178. Ha! Rom-com? I wouldn't have guessed! Still, I'm sure your wife appreciates that you watch those with her. :)

Thanks for hosting this awesome blogfest!

    ReplyDelete
  179. I've always been a huge fantasy fan, but lately I've rediscovered my love of mysteries.

    Fun blogfest!

    ReplyDelete
  180. Alex, this is such a fun blogfest. I've really enjoyed reading everyone's choices! And yay for romantic comedies!

    ReplyDelete
  181. Ciara, he keeps you up to speed I'm sure.

    Jay, I will!

    Imogen, sorry you missed it.

Angela, thanks. And that gave me a good chuckle.

    Thank you, Melissa.

Thanks, Lauren. Ninja skills came in handy.

Cold, it covers the gambit. Can't do Opeth though.

    Julie, I really appreciate that!

Glad everyone enjoyed this blogfest so much!

    ReplyDelete
  182. Movie- Comedy. I love to laugh.

Music- Classic rock. Pink Flod is my all-time favorite band.

Books- Specifically non-genre. My reading taste is quite eclectic.

And a guilty pleasure genre from any of the three categories..."The Last Dragon" is a movie I can watch over and over. No matter how campy and bad it is, Bruce Leroy always makes me smile. Sho 'Nuff!

    ReplyDelete
  183. As much as I *claim* I do NOT like Romantic Comedies, I will inevitably watch one with my mom and really enjoy it!

Just goes to show you can't always judge a movie by its genre :D

    Cheers,
    Jen

    ReplyDelete
  184. Sigh. I totally missed this blogfest. But i'm not confident i could've picked favorites anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  185. Congratulations on your book successes! They are on my to read list and I just wish I had more time. Sorry I missed the blogfest but I was on vacation last week with no internet and lost track of it. Maybe next time.

    ReplyDelete
  186. Rick, Floyd was a talented band.

    Jen, very true.

Sarah, everyone said it was more difficult than they imagined.

Rose, there will be others! And thank you for adding my books.

    ReplyDelete
  187. Alex - You are a man who loves his woman. Nothing wrong with a romantic comedy.

    You rock!

    ReplyDelete
  188. I've always loved science fiction but I also really like the novel.

    ReplyDelete
  189. Death is a Bitch--FABULOUS title!

And I share your progressive rock love... I like fantasy, too, though I think I like dystopian a little better.

    ReplyDelete
  190. What about SF Rom-Com crossovers? Thanks for the shout-out, Alex! And congratulations on Cassastar's current ranking -- you're showing the rest of us how it's done.

    ReplyDelete
  191. Sheesh - I think I'm your 200th commenter ! Not bad going... Now, I'm not surprised by your favorite genres but I AM about the guilty pleasure. Thanks for hosting this great blogfest.

    ReplyDelete
  192. I think I missed listing the Aliens universe in my response, or at least mentioning that Ridley Scott is an amazing director. Thanks for hosting the blog hop (even though I know I'm way late commenting, haha).
