CassaFire Tour Day One, News, Trivia, and Contest

Day one of the party and tour – and today’s tour host is the lovely Ciara Knight!

I began following Ciara last summer, and the day after I found her blog, she began her “Did I Notice Your Book” series. Much to my amazement, her first book selection was CassaStar. Ciara is also an author with two amazing books to her name. She’s an awesome and special friend, so I hope you take the time to visit her.

Don’t forget that everyone who comments here on my blog over the next two weeks will be entered to win this cool prize package from my publisher:

Ninja News

Roland Yeomans, an amazing writer and author, posted a most incredible story involving me with a hangover and kidnapped by Mark Twain. Thank you, Roland for the incredible honor of appearing in one of your stories!

Someone in my BBTCafe Yahoo group posted this site for Twitter - WhoUnfollowedMe. Wonder who’s following or not following you? You’ll be amazed how many followed to get you to return the follow and then immediately unfollowed.

The Golden Eagle is hosting her Evil Genius Blogfest today.

We’re still hoping for a thousand A to Z Challenge participants by March 1. Details and sign up HERE

I only cared about one category last night - and thankfully, Rango did win Best Animated Film at the Oscars!

Random Ninja Fact

I hate to fly!

Trivia Time – Movies

1 – Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russell appeared in what 1989 action film?

2 – Marlon Brando won an Oscar for his performance in what film?

3 – What was the password used to break into the government’s computer system in 1983’s WarGames?

4 – Movie quote – name the film: “If you build it, he will come.”

Answers tomorrow!

Let me know your best guesses. Even if you don’t know, comment for a chance to win the CassaFire prize package. Feel free to comment on last night's Oscars as well. And then go visit Ciara Knight!

  1. "You’ll be amazed how many followed to get you to return the follow and then immediately unfollowed."

Yeah, that's annoying. I follow people if they cover any of the subjects I do: archaeology, history, writing, horror, travel, and the Horn of Africa. If they don't, well, they're welcome to read my feed.

I get all sorts of random followers like dentists, insurance companies, lawyers, etc. Some leave, some stay. Those who stay are obviously interested in my feed. That's great as long as they understand that I don't want to read about insurance news!

Oh, and my feed is @Writersean. I'm trying to break 1000 followers. I'm at 996 and counting!

  2. Great post Alex. good luck with your new book.

  3. So, the answers:
    1. Tango & Cash - It's a great classic with Sly famoust sentence "Rambo is a p....!" :)

    2. On the Waterfront (I'd to mention The Godfather... but he refused this Oscar.)

    3. Joshua

    4. Field of Dreams

    ReplyDelete
  4. Good luck with your book. I'm not even going to try to answer those questions, though!

    ReplyDelete
  5. Loved the book and posted my review this morning. Good luck with the tour.

  7. I know answers to the first two...
    1. Tango and Cash because my dad watches it whenever its on cable with other action(blood and guns) movies and I get fed up with their pathetic attempts at humour. (Sty is supposed to be a well read man and all he does is mumble)

    2. On the waterfront and for Godfather...never knew he refused it.

Good luck, read Roland piece and mighty impressed...
Mine is dull in comparison but I always have the excuse of ill health to fall back on. ;)

  8. Thankfully others answered the questions so I didn't have to rack my brains. I only cared about the Best Actress award last night. Yeah Meryl.

    ReplyDelete
  9. The Oscars were dead to me this year. No significant nomination for Harry Potter left me pouting.

    W/o cheating:
    1. I KNOW this but memory fails me
    2. Gotta be Godfather. The American Native woman gave a strange little speech.
    3. Joshua? Or Tic Tac Toe?
    4. Easy Peasy. Field of Dreams

Looking forward to your launch tomorrow!

    ReplyDelete
  10. I'm so excited and honored that you will be on my blog today.

Oh, that is some cool swag. I'm so excited about this giveaway because my son, who is on the spectrum, LOVES your cover. He wants that mug. I hope you don't mind an 8 y/o sporting your stuff. We've been talking about reading your book together, but I told him he needed to be a little older.

Sorry for the comment delete above. Kitten ran across the keyboard.

    ReplyDelete
  11. 1. Tango and Cash
    2. The Godfather
3.Don't know off hand and didn't want to google it...
    4. Field of Dreams

    ReplyDelete
  12. Interesting about people following to be followed and then unfollowing. I had no idea.

Loved your interview with Ciara. Let someone else win this contest since I've already won your book. Good luck with its release.

    ReplyDelete
  13. So the madness begins.

Looks like the Lurker took my answers except for number 3 - I haven't thought about that in years. Hey, was it Alex?

    ReplyDelete
  14. great post as per always... happy monday. countdown in place. i am on my way to play a game, do you want to play a game... how bout a game of chess.

just say i know the trivia...

    ReplyDelete
  15. Sean, I think you'll break it easy today!

    RaveAir, so close!

    Thanks, Randy!

Rek, that's funny your father watches it all time. I haven't seen it in years. And I'm sure your post will be awesome.

Huntress, you got three of them!

Ciara, if he wins, that will be so cool! And very funny your kitten messed up your first comment.

    Lurker, you got three!

    Natalie, thank you.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I try not to worry too much about the Twitter thing. I do think people play "numbers" games on there.

    Great interview over at Ciara's.

    ReplyDelete
  17. To wish someone luck on Broadway they say Break a Leg.

How about in this instance we say Break a Pencil?

Looks like the all the trivia was answered.

"The only winning move is not to play. How about a nice game of chess? "

    ReplyDelete
  18. I assume someone above must have gotten all the answers right up there. Movie buff I am most definitely not. Congrats on the shout out on Ciara's blog! That's awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  19. I'm not going to cheat. I only knew the answer to the last trivia question, Field of Dreams. Loved that movie. Good luck on the tour.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Exciting.

I have a Twitter account but I don't tweet yet.

    T

    ReplyDelete
  21. Congrats on the shoutout, the story and on CassaFire. Yay!! Thanks for the link on the unfollowing. I get some strange followers who seem to unfollow right after I follow back.

I'm happy Rango won , too. That was a great film. I wish Michelle or Viola would have won, but hey, I love Meryl, too.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Rusty, sorry, wasn't Alex!

Jeremy, figured those would be easy for you.

Heather, I like break a pencil!

    Thanks, Katie!

Melissa, now you can unfollow right back!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Not going to answer the questions, seeing how you've already gotten the answers. Great questions, though.

Already hopped over the Ciara's blog. Nice interview!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Congrats on the start of your tour Alex! I prefer not to fly too, although sometimes the upcoming location can make me suffer through it. Answer to number one is Tango and Cash - I love that movie!

    Happy Monday! :)

    ReplyDelete
  25. Congrats, Alex! Will hop over to Ciara's place. I know the answers to the trivia...they're on the tip of my tongue! Number 4 is Field of Dreams, I think. :)

    ReplyDelete
  26. Yay!! Party time!!!

Erm... I disqualify myself cos I cheated-googled the answers. Ahem!

    LOL!

    Take care
    x

    ReplyDelete
  27. Thanks to the Twilight Zone, I used to hate flying when I was little.

    I am glad Rango won!

    ReplyDelete
  28. In the event I actually got all of these right, I would like to state that I did not use Google or other references:

    1. Tango & Cash
    2. On the Waterfront ("I coulda been a contender")
    3. Joshua ("Let's play global thermo-nuclear war." "How about a nice game of chess?")
    4. Field of Dreams

    ReplyDelete
  29. Tomorrow, tomorrow, I love ya' tomorrow, you're only a day away.

And leave me out of the prize pack. You know why.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Trivia first:

    1. Tango & Cash - I should watch that again).
    2. On the Waterfront.
    3. If I didn't know it was "Joshua" that would be bad? Although, technically speaking, didn't David use some advanced 80's techniques like hacking and phreaking to get into the system, and the name Joshua is used as a "name" for the computer? I suppose one could argue that he used the name Joshua as the password based on what he found out about Professor Stephen Falken, but then they just kept referring to the computer as Joshua from then on. Hell, even Falken did that multiple times. Damn I need to watch this one again. And soon!
    4. Field of Dreams, though for some reason, every time I hear this, I immediately think of the old Dunkin Donuts, "Time to make the donuts" guy. I miss Fred the Baker (Michael Vale).

I'll head over to Ciara's in just a bit.

    ReplyDelete
  31. I remember Tango and Cash. Good movie. Saw a good review over on Randy's blog. Cool!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Oh Alex, so excited for you! Congratulations on the beginning of your tour - hope the book sells like proverbial hotcakes! I will be posting your 'letter from a friend' today as well.
And here's my best guesses, cause your stuff looks cool:

1 – Tango & Cash - I saw this at the movie theatre and LOVED it. Saw it again recently and wondered what the heck I was thinking.

    2 – On the Waterfront.

3 – What was the password used to break into the government’s computer system in 1983’s WarGames? I don't know but I'll guess... FRED.

4 – Movie quote – name the film: “If you build it, he will come.” Field of Dreams

    ReplyDelete
  33. Hi Alex
Whoa ho, the first day of your blog book tour. I wish you great success. I only know two of the trivia questions. 2. The Godfather, Brando didn't go because of the Native American protest over Wounded Knee. 4. Field of Dreams.

    I hate to fly too.
    Nancy

    ReplyDelete
  34. I didn't even know the Oscars were on last night until I got on Twitter. I guess my focus has been elsewhere this year, which I'm really okay with.

Can't wait to see the success of CassaFire!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Amy, I'll fly if I have to, but that doesn't mean I have to like it!

    Kitty!

    Rick, three of the four.

    Anne, no problem.

Joshua, if you didn't know the answer, that would be bad. And now I need to go watch the movie again to confirm all of that.

    Cathy, thank you!

    Nancy, you are correct!

    ReplyDelete
  36. Sadly, WARGAMES is not on Netflix Instant. But TANGO & CASH is, so I know what I'll be watching over lunch today.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I mean tomorrow... geez... what day is it? What's my name? Where are we?

    ReplyDelete
  38. I mean tomorrow... geez... what day is it? What's my name? Where are we?

  39. I hear ya about flying! I used to fly all the time for work, and now I avoid it at all cost. :)

    ReplyDelete
  40. Congrats on the book release.

You always stump me with the trivia. No fair!

And I usually don't mind flying, but the trip over the Atlantic is never fun. Not looking forward to that.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Cool looking coffee cup! I'm thinking big thoughts on winning that!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I've used WhoFollowedMe for the last several months. It's annoying to be dropped as soon as I follow back, just to pad their numbers.
    Looking forward to tomorrow!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Not sure about 1 and 2 but 3 is Joshua and is 4 the scene where his Dad appears? :)

    Universal Gibberish

    ReplyDelete
  44. You hate to fly? Well, it seems we share the same fears. I'm TERRIFIED of flying, and as crazy as this may sound, I've never been on a plane in my entire life. Not sure if I ever will be either.

Regarding Twitter UNfollowers, I've noticed that too. But how does this site work? I don't get it. I signed in, and then nothing... Hm..

What did you think of last night's Oscars?

    ReplyDelete
  45. Tomorrow you will have no choice but to fly, I expect a great day. Greetings.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I did a little better on this trivia quiz than the last one! I'm off to read your book review. I thought the skit with Oprah on Kimmel was more entertaining than most of the Oscars. Julie

    ReplyDelete
  47. I hate to fly too and hate is not even strong enough word.

My favorite part of the Oscars was the Cirque du Soleil performance. That's talent.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Hi, Alex! Lots of cool looking swag. Stopped by Ciara's blog and left a comment. Best wishes for your tour.

Let's just say Alex gets an A. :) Hope it's a successful week my friend!

  55. You're doing a kick ass job of generating blog-buzz for CassaFire!

I wish you a tremendous launch and nothing but enormous success!!!

    ReplyDelete
  56. I need to watch that movie again (WarGames). Loved it. And it was the name of his son.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Trivia:
    1) Tango & Cash. Now, what movie did Kurt Russell and Steven Segall "star" in?

    2) The Waterfront
    3) Joshua
    4) Field of Dreams

I'm flying tomorrow - but my post will go live at 7 AM CST for your CassaFire party!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Joshua, glad I gave you something to do during lunch then!

    Cathy, it's cool!

LG, I'm better when it's a trip over the ocean because that means I'm going to a foreign country - and that's cool!

Anna, you definitely have the password right.

George, all it took was one turbulent flight to ruin flying forever.
After you sign in, there should be four buttons on the right - one says who's not following me. Click on that and the icons will appear.
I watched about half the Oscars. Outside of pulling for Rango and Apes, I didn't really have a stake in any of the categories.

    Julie, yes it was.

    Christopher, you got two right.

    MJ, you got it.

    LTM, thank you!

    EJ, really? Wow, thanks!

    Thank you, Chris.

  59. Woohoo!! You blog tour is going to be awesome!!

I know the answer to #4 but the others are on the tip of my tongue. I'm going to try NOT going to google to find out lol.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Hi Alex! Best of luck these next 2 weeks!! I'm excited about the big to-do tomorrow :D It should be loads of fun!

I am so far behind on my movie viewing; I saw none of the nominated films. Sad but true. It was kind of interesting that the underdog won.

Off to read about your hangover adventures with Mark Twain!!

    Cheers,
    Jen

    ReplyDelete
  61. Hate to fly? I would be in trouble,it's a long boat ride anywhere.

I actually knew two answers this time.

Oscars - are you kidding me? See my blog, for my Oscar story.

    Enjoy the tour!

    ReplyDelete

    2. Apocolypse Now

    3. the son's name.

    4. Field of Dreams

    ReplyDelete
  63. I'm glad that I read your post today.
Need to rewrite part of my post ;-)

The honor of the blog tour start goes to Ciara Knight - Will visit her blog after writing this comment.

    Your post promise a lot.
Fingers crossed and good luck with CassaFirE - an awesome book which will draw attention with the blog tour.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I'm so bad at remembering yesterday, let alone the 80's. But I do remember Field of Dreams. Do I get a point?

I really enjoyed last nights Oscars. It was amazing what they did to entertain AND the recipients didn't go on and on.

    Here's to April.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Hi Alex, looking forward to A-Z challenge. Even though I'm not participating I loved reading all the blogs last year. Those were some of my first blogging friends!

    ReplyDelete
  66. I finally picked up your first one over the weekend. Hopefully, I'll be reading it soon. See, I'm all sneaky and will post a review of your first book in the midst of all the hoo-ha over your new book. I hope it works...

    ReplyDelete
  67. I don't expect your feet will touch the ground for the next two weeks Alex - I'm happy to be joining the party!

I'm not a happy flier either.

I'm rubbish at your film trivia (but I can tap dance along with The Artist)

Wishing you every success with CassaFire.

    ReplyDelete
  68. This new comment format is already driving me crazy. But I digress. I LOVED War Games and wish I remembered the password. But I do know #4, Field of Dreams.

You're already on fire, Alex. It's going to be a great launch party!

  72. Now i totally want to watch Field of Dreams!
Also, people actually do that horrible follow/unfollow trick? What asses.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Kidnapped by Mark Twain? What a cool adventure that would be. :)

    ReplyDelete
  74. Kidnapped by Mark Twain? No way. Gotta read that.

    1 – Tango & Cash

    2 – Godfather

    3 – checkers? games?

    4 – Field of Dreams

    ReplyDelete
  75. Awesome prize pack from your publisher. I do hope you have a CassaStar coffee mug. :)

And I totally don't get the follow and immediately unfollow thing on Twitter. Okay, I do understand why, but it seems to defeat the purpose of making connections.

And, man, I can't think of any of the answers to the trivia questions. Sure I could look them up, but what fun would that be?

    ReplyDelete
  76. Hi, Alex, I kept trying to leave a comment on Ciara's blog, but Blogger kept telling me I wasn't me! I could have sworn that was my face staring back at me when I shaved this morning!

May your sales shoot to the stars! Roland

  77. Sarah, yes they do! Give it a try - you'll be surprised how many.

    Cate, it was wild!

    Copyboy, you got three!

    2. Streetcar Named Desire?

    3. Loogie. lol I don't know. Just guessing.

    4. Field of Dreams.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Best of luck with your launch and the blog tour Alex! Congrats!

I can be OK at trivia, but not movie trivia. I've looked at some of the other answers and I'll post the ones I first thought so people can laugh at me.

    1. Cliffhanger (was trying to remember if Kurt Russell is in this... he's not is he?)

    2. Apocalypse Now.

The other two I had no idea. (hangs head)

I find Roland's stories both witty and profound, but I kind of wish he would cut down on some of the videos and the overall size of his blog. It makes my puny system freeze to a halt, so I don't comment as much as I would like.

And finally I have to give props to you Alex, for your amazingly swift comments on my blog (13 minutes after my post just now), given you follow about 1000. You have ninja skills indeed!

    ReplyDelete
  96. Congratulations on the tomorrow's release of CassaFire. I'm working on the post right now!

As for the answers, I know some:

2.I would say The Godfather but I'm not 100% sure.

    3. It was someone's name, darn, just escaped me. Okay, that's a good excuse to watch it again :-)

  101. Thank you for the shout out about my blogfest! :)

I'm off to check out the post over at Ciara's.

I am so excited for you; I am working on my post tonight.
I even bought some... You will see soon ,lol

I wouldn't think Ninjas would like to fly. They would rather kick and rock the world ; )

  104. Rango probably deserved it but I loved the message behind Kung Fu Panda 2 so I hoped it would win. Hope you have an incredibly productive week.

re: following and then unfollowing: wow. that surprises me. Maybe it shouldn't but it does.

Have to check the Twitter unfollow thing now that I'm on Twitter.

Looks like A to Z should hit 800 tonight. On our way to 1000.

  110. My mother is terrified of flying, and I've found that I suddenly become terrified of flying when I fly with her, haha. Panic is catching!

    1. Tango & Cash (love that movie)!

    2. Dunno...Godfather?

    3. I can't believe I don't remember this, but I enjoy saying "Global Thermonuclear War." Now say it three times fast. Did you know I live minutes from NORAD? Oh wait, was it the son's name? Simon or some such thing? Crud, I really nee to watch this movie again.

    4. Field of Dreams?

  115. Another long day, Alex and by the time I get a chance to comment on blogs you have like 500 comments so I always wonder if you even stroll down this far on the list. I am kidding. You are the best about comments and reciprocation.

First of all congrats on the release of Casa Fire. I will make my purchase tomorrow. Second, I understand why people will follow on twitter to get follow backs, but why the need to unfollow. Is it such an inconvenience? I mean they don't have to actively follow and tweet back and forth like Paris and Lindsay.

I know I had a lot more to say after reading your post, but I have forgotten most of it. That and DL has me working on a new concept called "brevity" yea right.

Tango & Cash. Got that one. I almost said Tequila Sunrise, what?
The Marlon Brando question is a trick question. He won the Oscar in 1954 for On the Waterfront & he won again in 72 for The Godfather, but he refused to accept the award. I cannot even remember why he refused it.
I have no idea about the next one but "If you build it he will come" That is Field of Dreams.

Have a great day tomorrow. We are all very proud of you. I am off to work on "brevity"

  116. What nice prizes! Congrats on your latest release. I'm terrible with movie trivia. I would have to cheat to get the answers.

  117. Hey Alex,
And somehow scrolling down and down and down..to leave a comment on this latest blogger version, oh my, I just wanted to pass on my hearty congrats for your latest novel release.
Good to see you put in all those links and note such things as The Golden Eagle is having her blogfest in regards to her upcoming second blogging anniversary.
And shy, humble, unassuming me, appreciates you taking the time to leave a comment on my evidently, 'well kept secret' blog.
Looking forward to putting up my alternative, satirical postings to the A to Z Challenge. Rather ironic, I mock and yet it brings more attention to the Challenge. Oh well..party on!

  118. Lydia, I used to like it as well, but no more!

Hey Melissa! Of course I scroll down to read all of the comments. You guys are awesome. You're really close on the answers.

Hey Klahanie! I appreciate you stopping by. I wish I had time to visit every single one of my followers every day, but it's become impossible now. Promise to visit you more often!

  119. I don't know a single answer to the trivia questions. Good luck on your really, really busy two weeks.

  120. Tango & Cash
    On the Waterfront
    Joshua
    Field of Dreams

And I DID NOT CHEAT! I swear!

So I've got your book release posted on my blog tomorrow. Congrats on the big day!

  121. Alex!!!! Well, of course - I just had to come back for your launch party! Wow - amazing support here, already. :) I wouldn't expect any less.

Still haven't seen Rango, btw. Or - actually, any of the big winning movies at the Oscars the other night. I need to get out more...

And my guesses to your Movie trivia quiz:

1 - Tango and Cash - (loved this movie when it came out!! I've actually got Yazoo's "Don't Go" on my iPod...)
    2 - Ummm...On the Waterfront?
    3 - Ummm... "Peace"?
4 - Field of Dreams, of course!!!

I'm 75% sure I got those right... :) Anyhow - CONGRATS on the release and the par-tay! Hoping that best-seller list finds Cassafire, stat! :-D

  122. Brando did win twice (for the two movies listed, and should have won more), and to disambiguate, he refused to attend for the Godfather win. Easily one of the titans of American film and culture.

  123. Congratulations on the release, Alex. You really are going places. Hugs.

PS: Don't forget I will showcase you on New Book Blogger. When you have time to breathe send over the info (found in side bar of blog).

  126. Great post Alex! I wish you everything of the best with the book launch!

Q: If you hate to fly, do you take tranquillizers when you have to fly?
What happens when you have to fly long-distance? Let's say to another continent (which takes about 14 hours flight-time?)
