Rocking the 80's!

Cool guest and 80’s quiz for you today! And a few chuckles at my expense.

But first, a HUGE thank you to everyone who participated (or simply enjoyed) the Worst Movies Ever blogfest. Wow! I think that was the best one yet. I got such a kick out of reading everyone’s reasons for their worst movie selections. I managed to visit everyone’s post and then some. (Which is why I took a break Tuesday morning.) But I really, really appreciate everyone who got involved in the revelry of crappy movies. All of the links now lead straight to the blogfest post, so please continue to browse, especially the later entries.

Now, for your viewing pleasure… the 80’s Queen herself – Nicki Elson!

I’m just going to say it: Alex and I have nothing in common.

I write chick-lit romance; he writes sci-fi adventure.

He’s a techno-gadget wizard; I recently had to Google to figure out how to turn off my hand-me-down Nano.

I’m a frequent user of the emoticon. :) He doesn’t partake of them. :(

And music? Let’s just say we have differing tastes. Sir Alex won a totally rockin’ out cool One Hit Wonders of the 80s CD in a trivia contest at my blog during A to Z, and do you know what he said? Well, I don’t remember his exact words, but it was essentially “I’ll take a pass.” For real. He took a pass on the likes of Kajagoogoo and Dexy’s Midnight Runners. Can you imagine? (Yes, I did!)

But I so wanted to guest post at his place to show off my schnazzy new book cover (with nary a spaceship in sight) and let Alex’s Army know about Omnific Publishing’s awesome Back-to-School Sale throughout September―Three Daves and other school-related titles are only 99 cents in Kindle, Nook, and ePub! So I had to come up with something…anything…to ingratiate myself to the Ninja Master. Then it hit me…

…I’m a big fan of the 80s, as evidenced by the era in which Three Daves is set…

…he’s a big fan of heavy metal…

Metal was HUGE in the 80s! At least as huge as the hair of the musicians themselves!

And here we have it, the common ground. :)

Don’t be nervous, but right now we’re going to see how fit you are to be a member of Alex’s Army. How many of these 10 songs from the 80s can you match with the correct metal band? Give it a whirl and please let Alex know in the comments how you did (if you preferred 80s New Wave to Metal, you can let him know that too—loudly.)

Good luck!

Thanks for stopping by, and thanks for having me, Alex!

P.S. If you’re a book reviewer, A Tale of Many Reviews has opened up sign-ups for a Three Daves paper book tour.

Visit Nicki Elson at her website or blog.

All right guys – you’ve been challenged!

And if metal is not your thing, can you name any other 80’s band? Anyone? Anyone?

  1. I grew up in the 80s. I was a fan of the way they dressed (though only back then, I shake my head at the fashion--yikes! I wore that stuff!?) and the music ( I still am a fan of the music...I should have won that CD. Except, I don't own a CD player anymore...) Congrats on your book!

  2. I forgot to tell you what I listened to in the 80s: Pet Shop Boys, The Cure, Cindy Lauper, Debbie Gibson. I was a teenage girl! Give me a break.

    ReplyDelete
  3. The 80's was a difficult decade filled with lots of angst for me. I didn't like the clothes or most of the music. It's just a period I would never want to relive. I did get 60% on the quiz, so I guess that's not too pathetic.

    Congratulations on your book!

    ReplyDelete
  4. I rushed here for the 80s! My son said he wished he was around in the 80s. I listened to Aerosmith but really I listened to the 80s, and no particular singer or band, except slightly later, I listened to Sade, Sade, Sade like how I listen to Mraz now.

And where are my manners. Hello Nicki, nice to meet you, and hello Alex, thank you for a fun blogfest and I am glad to hear that the links now are to the blogfest posts because I am late to the party.

  5. Seeing Clarissa's additional comment, I will say that I listened to so much Cyndi Lauper and Prince it drove my mother to madness. Still love Lauper's albums from the 80's and Purple Rain :).

    ReplyDelete
  6. I got %100, and I guessed on at least four of them. I still listen to Prince now and then, and even some Duran Duran has aged well.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Clarissa, I'll give you a break!

Isis, that would've driven me to madness!

Oceangirl, I'm surprised by how many teens dig the 80's stuff.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I'm a child of the 80's myself. Phil Collins was cool back then and I also loved the Whitesnake and Survivor hits.

    ReplyDelete
  9. I was a child of the 60's so the 80's (fashion wise) didn't do all that much for me. But there was plenty of good music. I liked Heart and Pat Benatar, Van Halen and the Police, to name a few.

    ReplyDelete
  10. I was a total New Romantic Mod in the 80's so will fail most miserably with this quiz!!!

And I was a Spandauette rather than a Duranie!

    Take care

  11. I should have known these ... but I can never remember who sings what! I didn't even get half right!! *sigh*

  12. Hey, I had 5 out of ten. next time have a 60s quiz Please.

Thanks for the blogfest and all the hard work it entailed.

    Have a quiet day.
    Yvonne.

  13. I'll be like Alex and pass on the quiz. But I did and do love Cyndi Lauper.

  14. Sadly, I was too busy in the 80's raising my two children, keeping my hair big and finding shoulder pads for all my jackets to listen much to music. It was a lot of Sesame Street tunes. I didn't take the quiz.

PS I know who the bands and singers were, but not specific songs.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Brain is already on overtime so no quiz for me! Before I check out Nickis site I would like to thank you for the blogfest, it was alot of fun and I am still roaming the halls in there. Not much of a metal fan but the 80's was all about Michael Jackson and THRILLER!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  16. I'm a huge 80's and sci-fi fan. I guess I'd get along with both of you. :)

    ReplyDelete
  17. BTW - I scored 100% LOL. Only because my son is the lead singer of a band and they are playing a lot of 80's rock. Oh, and I danced to final countdown for an audition in high school. Gosh, that was...oh, never mind.

    ReplyDelete
  18. No way you turned down and 80's cd. 80's music rocked! It was the best ever. I loved Cindy Lauper, Boy George, Twisted Sister, Kiss, Pat Benatar, Bruce Springsteen, the Eagles, the Beach Boys,Neil Diamond, Madonna, the occasional Guns and Roses, Rod Steward, and the Eurythmics...can't leave them out. I constantly sang "Sweet Dreams." There were so many great ones, but I will fail your quiz. For the life of me I can't match songs with bands. :)

    ReplyDelete
  19. Drat!!! I couldn't do the little quiz here at work -- apparently it doesn't like me. Yes, I'm still upset about it!

What I love about Alex is that even though you are in different genres (much like I am), he's still so AWESOME -- YES YOU ARE! So I love that my two awesome peeps joined together today! LOVE IT!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Yikes, I only got 5 our of 10. I know, I suck. Thanks for introducing us to Nicki and her book! I enjoyed her interview with Jen a couple weeks ago too. 3 Daves looks awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  21. No heavy metal for me thank you. I was an old fashioned rock and roll girl. Lynard Skynard, Queen, Zep, Jethro Tull, Genisis with Peter Gabriel. (Okay, maybe I'm dating myself here and they were in the 70's. I can't remember now.)

    ReplyDelete
  22. OMG I just got all ten of those right. ::Sighs::

80's bands... Oingo Boingo. Gotta love Danny Elfman. ;)

I think I need to go back to the 80's lol!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I heart the 80s, but I wasn't into metal bands, save for GnR, so I bombed the quiz. 6/10. At any rate, I'm off to check out Three Daves. And this was a rocking post!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Yaaay! The 80s lives! Look at all the awesome bands you've already named in your comments and there are SO many more. I think what I love most about the 80s is it just didn't seem to take itself too seriously (*ahem* Oingo Boingo). And for those of you who cringe at the fashion...it's baaaack...even shoulder pads are making it to the runways. Let's just hope they don't make it into our closets!

Well, day's already off to a wonderful start reading through these awesome comments. :) Thanks to all of you and HUGE thanks to Alex!

    ReplyDelete
  25. 10 out of 10. I listened to a lot of Metal in the 80s, and today.

    ReplyDelete
  26. 8 out of 10. Not too bad considering the fact that I was watching Nickelodeon more than MTV at that point in my life.

Nicki, have you heard of Ernest Cline's new book "Ready Player One"? It's a sci-fi dystopian novel about a global contest for world domination that centers on the knowledge of 80's geek pop culture. It is every bit as rad as it sounds :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. 70% woot, I managed to get 7 out of 10 right. I think I missed the first few. :)

    ReplyDelete
  28. Captain Ninja Alex's Army...I should be able to be a part of your army since I got 8 / 10 correct. However, I'm also on Nicki's team because I couldn't friggin' post my results. I know, technically challenged. I'm owning it.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I got a 60. Since i was born in 1980 i think i did pretty good. would prob. do better on a 90 music trivia

    ReplyDelete
  30. Y'all are doing great on the quiz! Welcome to the team, Candy. :) I've not heard of "Ready Player One," Scot but it sounds like I must check it out---thanks for the tip!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I write a different genre, too, but Alex is still cool :)

Love Cyndi Lauper, AC/DC, Aerosmith, and Phil Collins. Yes, I might be strange. I prefer eclectic.

    ReplyDelete
  32. 100% woot. I am an 80s master! well at least this time. Thanks for the quiz.

    ReplyDelete
  33. The 80's are my favorite decade by far. I want to go watch Wedding Singer right now. And I can't wait any longer. I'm getting Three Daves on my Kindle. How can I pass up the .99 back to school special?

    ReplyDelete
  34. Great Post and I got all the answers right. Whoo Hoo!! I was the quintessential 80's kid so my faves included Duran Duran, Culture Club, Wham! Poison, Guns N Roses, Cinderella, Night Ranger, Journey and AND Spandau Ballet. Also New Edition, Prince, Run DMC,Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam, Rick James and Shalimar. Can I get a get "Gag me with a spoon?" LOL

    ReplyDelete
  35. KILLER! I got a 100%-- I felt like I was bubbling up with laughter the whole time I was taking the quiz. That was so cool! And for the record, blog-land, Nicki and Alex are officially two of my favorite people! I've bought both of their books and, well, they rock!

Thanks for a super fun quiz. :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Oh and Hi Nicki!! Great to meet you. This book sounds like it's perfect for me. I wish you tons of success.

    ReplyDelete
  37. i too lived the 80's... but in a judas priest, whitesnake, dokken, w.a.s.p., billy idol, chuck norris kind of way... yeah i know i wasn't cool then either... ultimate sad face. :(+10

    ReplyDelete
  38. I got 9 out of 10 correct, having never listened to an Iron Maiden song. Does that evict me from Captain Ninja Alex's army?

    ReplyDelete
  39. Ricky, you mean before Collins did nothing but sappy ballads?

Bish, I don't think any decade had great duds.

Yvonne, you'd probably beat me on a 60's quiz.

Journaling, but you were hip with the shoulder pads, right?

Ciara, good for you! And yes, that was a long time ago...

Laila, it just wasn't my kind of music.

    Aw, thanks Jen!

    Mel, good for you!

    Nicki, you are welcome.

Charles, you are uber-cool in my book.

    Scott, that sounds wild.

Candy, that's all right - everyone is welcome here.

Carol, so does my wife. She just doesn't play it around me.

Melissa, that is quite the variety.

    Suze, thank you!

    ReplyDelete
  40. Hi Alex and Nicki, I didn't take the quiz 'cause I've always been hopelessly clueless about popular music. It's fun reading all the comments, though!

    ReplyDelete
  41. I listened to *everything* in the 80's, well almost. Sometimes, in the car, my 9-y-o son will say, "This song must be from the 80's. It's weird." LOL.

    I got 100 on the quiz. ;-) And I like emoticons. :-)

    ReplyDelete
  42. 100%!!

I did guess at a couple, but I guessed right. I graduated high school smack dab in the middle of the 80s, and those were my musically formative years. :)

Though, I wasn't deep into the heaviest of heavy metal. I liked hard rock.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I got 70% - not bad. I was a teen/college student in the 80s but didn't listen to much metal. I loved rock and began gravitating toward alternative in the late 80s.

I listened to Aerosmith, U2, REM, Til Tuesday, Pat Benatar, The Police, Genesis, Elvis Costello, Echo and the Bunnymen, Squeeze, Talking Heads, The Smiths/Morrissey, World Party, INXS, Sinead O'Connor, The The, The Cure...ok I'll stop now, lol.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane!

    ReplyDelete
  44. That is a snazzy, and catchy, book cover. Congrats!

    ReplyDelete
  45. oh, good grief! isn't heavy metal like a truck or a box car or something?

    ReplyDelete
  46. That was quite the quiz.... I was too busy walking the runway to pay too much attention to heavy metal music. LOL.

However I did get four answers correct. WHOOPEE!

THis was super fun, Like, like totally narly. I am glad you and Nicki came to a compromise Alex.

Nicki ... another fun post! Congrats!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Oh, 80's bands... Let's see...

Duran Duran, Depeche Mode, Blondie (Adored Debrah Harre), Wham... eek. Culture Club, (Loved them too)

    ReplyDelete
  48. 90% for me! I missed the AC/DC song, but I never liked that group anyway. I listened to just about everything in the 80s--like I still pretty much do.

Good job, Nicki. Just goes to show the we bloggers may not all have the same tastes, but we can get along just fine and learn a lot from each other.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Wow. I got 70% right. That's way better than I thought I'd do.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I got 50% ... my typical test results ... but, as I was of a different decade (I ain't gonna say which one), that's not too bad.

    ReplyDelete
  51. 80% for me. And some of those were guesses!! I loved everything about the 80s, metal through to A-Ha with the gorgeous Morten Harket.

    ReplyDelete
  52. I liked metal, sure, but it was in my college years. Mostly during HS I listened to the pop/dancy stuff. But college, I was a rebel. LOL I love/loved 80's music.

    Great post.

    ReplyDelete
  53. I skipped the quiz as I led a double life in the 80's between Devo and Earth, Wind & Fire. Both of you would have probably pretended not to see me if I walked by. Congratulations on your book Nicki! Julie

    ReplyDelete
  54. Got 6 of the 10 right...the ones I didn't know where bands I haven't listened to...good luck on your book Nicki...met her on the A-Z hopping around and found her posts interesting given I was a 80's teenager...sounds like a fun book...though chick lit isn't something I read.

    ReplyDelete
  55. 8 out of 10, which is better than I would have thought. Sometimes I recognize a song, but not necessarily by the title.

Fun quiz and great to meet Nicki.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Hi Alex
Hurray! I am at your blog. A major achievement it seems. The right internet provider is essential. No idea about the heavy metal stuff.

Congrats Nicki on your books and cover.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Uh, I love everything 80s: movies, music, TV. I could list all the ones on my ipod...but I won't. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  58. Wierd Science is the best 80's movie ever. If anyone is unfamiliar with the eighties...go watch this show. You will see eighties teens in their environment, a sample of the great John Hughes, BIG BIG HAIR...

Do I miss the eighties? Nope...but I'm glad I lived through them.

    ReplyDelete
  59. I got 7 out of 10, but I'm horrible at remembering band names and song titles. I'd know the song to hear it, but the pop culture trivia crown belongs to my husband in this house.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I can't work that thing to take the test.
Although I missed most of the 80's due my interest in baroque, classical and romantic era music (you know-Bach,Mozart, Beethoven) and opera, I did like ac/dc, the scorpions, johnny winter and steve vai and joe satriani.
I don't know if they were on your list but; They SHOULD be.
    Thank You.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I got 10 out of 10!! I love ALL 80s music, though I do have a soft spot for metal. At our wedding, my husband and I put CDs with our favorite 80s song on everyone's plate. It was a huge hit! But we couldn't narrow it down to just one CD. We made two and alternated the seating. So, if you came as a couple, you got both CDs!

    ReplyDelete
  62. I still love 80's music! I grew up in Poland but we've listened to the same bands as you guys have here, in the States :-)

Some of my favorite bands of that era were (and still are): Guns N' Roses, Duran Duran, Depeche Mode, Dire Straits, Fleetwood Mac, Grateful Dead, Man At Work, OMD, Simply Red, Talking Heads. R.E.M. And there was John Lennon, George Michael, Elton John, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Peter Gabriel, Prince... I could go on and on :-)

    ReplyDelete
  63. I'm going to pretend that my 4 out of 10 didn't happen :-(

I was a Janet Jackson, Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, Madonna and Cyndi Lauper (Girls just want to have fun) kid with a huge thing for Prince and the Revolution and that bothersome thing called rap back then.

    ReplyDelete
  64. love the comparison of alex v nicki.
couldn't see the music quiz on my ipad =(
    oh well...

    ReplyDelete
  65. Tara, some of it was weird!

    Gypsywoman, no!

Michael, I would've hosted her anyway. And we listened to very different music you and I...

    Glad you're back, Nancy!

Michael, Better Off Dead is another great 80's teen flick.

Anthony, every guitarist knows Vai and Satriani!

    Jennie, that's a clever idea.

    ReplyDelete
  66. And for the record, I got all ten correct. Easy answers!

    ReplyDelete
  67. Wow, I go to work for a few hours and look what happens! Alex's place is hoppin! I'm happy you're having so much fun w/ the quiz (sorry to those of you who can't get it :( ) I'm not sure I would've done as well as most of you have if I hadn't been the one to make it up!

I'm loving reading all these 80s bands. A few names I haven't seen yet that were my faves back in the day: Hall & Oates, Adam Ant, Jane's Addiction, and one that's still going strong: Madness! :D

Come on, is NO ONE going to fess up to Rick Springfield?

Jennie, oh how I wish I'd been at your wedding...with a date---awesome wedding favor!

    ReplyDelete
  68. Ha! FUN!

I was/am so not the metal fan, but my hubby sure is! I bet he could win this game in ten seconds flat.

And Alex? You know how awesome I think you are, right? But you are totally wrong on the 80's! I loved it all! (well except for the heavy metal!)

    ReplyDelete
  69. Woot! 10/10 on the quiz (though I had to make 'educated guesses' on two of them that I couldn't remember for sure).

    Thanks for the fun. :)

    ReplyDelete
  70. 10 outta 10! I'm a true 80s rocker baby!!! Sorry for the bay comment. That was out of line.

    ReplyDelete
  71. I am a total failure. I only got 6/10. But really, I wasn't really a metal girl in the 80's. I was more of the Cyndi Lauper, Hughie Lewis, Bananrama type. *hangs head shamefully*

    ReplyDelete
  72. Oh, I get Nicki on Friday, and she wrote such a fab post.

I got 9 out of 10 right. I dated a metal head in the 80's, but I would have loved the 80's cd Nicki had. I was obsessed with Billy Idol back then ... I think.

80's bands: Duran, Duran, Madonna, Cindy Lauper, Aha, Nick Kershaw, Icicle Works, ABC Band, Gap Band, The Cure, Depeche Mode, The Smiths, ... Umm, I could be here the rest of the day naming 80's bands.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Ali, I loved all the heavy metal for you!

Mary, should've passed the CD on to you.

Nicki, glad everyone is having fun with the quiz today!

    ReplyDelete
  74. Yikes I got 40 %. I take it metal is not my thing lol!

    ReplyDelete
  75. 10 out of 10, baby. And I think I have them all on vinyl, too. Except maybe Europe, which is a damn shame. That guy had great hair. I think you should be tied to a chair and forced to watch The Wedding Singer for turning down that 80s CD.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Interesting! I didn't pay much attention to the bands. Was surprised to get 5 out of 10 while guessing at all of them.

    Thanks for a fun post!

  77. The 80s was a decade of bad fashion and even worse haircuts. But great music though! ANd I got ten out of ten. That was an easy quiz as I listened to all these bands back in the day.

    ReplyDelete
  78. I am a child of the eighties. I got all ten metal songs, those were the days!

    ReplyDelete
  79. Firstly Alex congrats on the Movie 'fest. I enjoyed reading but didn't enter as luckily I don't see many bad movies.

80s! Well wasn't that the era of all those 'strange' people - Alice Cooper et al, speaking of Alice, he's in Oz doing a tour ATM and looks in great form. That's also when Kylie Minogue took off or was that the 90s. Sorry no time to google it.

Looking forward to Summer Vac 'fest our tomorrow.

    Denise

    ReplyDelete
  80. 80s are so the best - I love music from the 80s still... I was in my very early teens in the 80s and yes I used to do my hair like the rock bands... Oh I had huge crushes on them..hehe Europe was my fav.

    ReplyDelete
  81. The 80s rocked! However, I'm not into metal songs so I only knew the answer to one of those questions and the rest were guesses--I got 5/10 right LOL!

Love the cover on the book too, by the way :)

    ReplyDelete
  82. Ha ha...the Quiz was so much fun...and the most funny thing is...I scored 4 out of a 10 item question...grrrrr....I am alien to the 80's toppers...maybe I am not really a music lover...and I just did guess my answers!

I was like a college stude during the 80's...he he...

    Interesting post Alex! Kudos! :))

    ReplyDelete
  83. Julie, I just don't do the pop music!

Stephen it was easy. And the 80's was full of bad hair and strong hairspray.

Denise, Cooper was really weird in the 70's. Got a little normal in the 90's.

Thanks everyone for making Nicki's visit fun!

    ReplyDelete
  84. Yes, thanks everyone for making it VERY fun. :) I'm seriously impressed w/ those hair band skilz (even those of you who got 4s & 5s). And hey, rather cool that the comments are now numbering in the 80s, eh?

Copy boy - I forgive you. But let's not let it happen again... ~_^

And Mary, I'm looking forward to Friday. :D

Oh, and Alex, just so you know, I did find a good home for the One Hit Wonders CD with...the wonderful Suze.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Wow, I got a 90%. Not bad! I am a child of the 80's so I guess that makes sense. :)

    ReplyDelete
  86. BTW...also made you blog of the day.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Undoubtedly, in the 80's ruled Metallica, the most powerful group of the decade.

    ReplyDelete
  88. It's nice to meet you, Nicki! She's right, no space and stars on her book cover! ;)

Can you believe it's Thursday already? Where is the time going? Aaa!

    I got 10 out 10. Yeah.

80's band: A Flock of Seagulls?

    ReplyDelete
  90. 80s, where were I? Hmm my senior moment sets in and I can't remember or think of an answer. But congratulations on the new release, Nicki.

  91. Nicki, that's good!

    Copyboy, I did? Cool.

    Leovi, you are extra cool!

    ReplyDelete
  92. That was fun! I got 9 out of 10 correct. How about Duran Duran for another 80s band - they were my favorite when I was a teeny bopper!

    ReplyDelete
  93. Metallica - even the name is so cool. Flock of Seagulls and Duran Duran, hmm, names not quite as cool but that didn't stop them from being awesome. That's great news, Copy Boy!

    ReplyDelete
  94. Thanks Alex, for the intro to Nicki! As for the quiz, I did terribly. My kids were all born in the 80's, so I'll use busy and distracted as an excuse. :)

    ReplyDelete
  95. Okay, that QUIZ was awesome!!!! Love the 80s!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  96. Nicki is all over the place! And turning down a CD of 80's music?! Are you mad, Alex? :)

I've read THREE DAVES and it is wonderful. A perfect weekend read. So fun.

  97. The more I hear about this book, the more it interests me :-)

I wasn't into metal in the eighties but my brother was. I managed 60% so I guess some stuff went in without me realising :-)

  98. Yay! I do love Bon Jovi, Whitesnake and the like! I'm not sure they classify as metal, but they're still hardcore 80s bands, right? :)

    Sigh. I miss the 80s!

  99. i can't watch the video while at work so i'll have to check it out later. But, Alex, you passed on the 80s cd??! What is wrong with you? The 80s was a trainwreck of awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  100. 10 of 10 of course! So happy I read a blog I follow and then found yours! :)

I have an 80's blog.. yay.

I love the 80's music! hair metal, heavy metal, thrash metal and pop!

  101. I figured I wouldn't know any of these since I was in my 40s in the 80s -- but I got a rocking 40%. I must have been listening a couple of times when my boys had their stereos cranked up.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Nicki, Flock of Seagulls was definitely not cool.

Liz, I don't like pop music.

Talli, Whitesnake was definitely 80's style metal.

Sarah, I can't do 80's pop. Makes my ears bleed.

    Darleen, that is cool!

Patricia, I'm sure my mom would've scored the same.

  103. Hi Alex .. not a music fan .. just doesn't go in .. but I got 40% = guesswork! and boy are you getting comments ...

Great to see Nicki here with her book - bon chance to both of you ..

Sir Alex now .. well that could be true with comments into the hundreds ..

Cheers and enjoy the music!! Hilary

  104. Woohoo man, I got 100 per cent but I'm kinda a music freak among other quirks. Heeehehhe!

It was great to meet Nicki and get a feel of her book.

God bless and have an amazin' day!!! :o)

  105. Woo hoo, I got 9 out of 10 correct! And I'm not a huge hair band fan but I listen to the radio a lot. ;) Fun quiz!

    ReplyDelete
  106. The guys who pretended to be Milli Vanilli had great hair...do they count? ;D

    ReplyDelete
  107. I was a Metallica fan in high school. :) Now I've gotten a lot tamer!

    ReplyDelete
  108. Hilary, the comments on Monday's post really blew my mind.

    Nezzy, good for you!

Jennifer, they count as something, just not sure what...

    Elizabeth, you rocker chick!

  109. I prefer 80s New Wave - by far.

Still, got 70% in the quiz. It's embarrassing ... ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  110. Amazing! I got 70% on the quiz by pure guessing. We were in Brazil during the 80's and I never listened to heavy metal in my life - at least not on purpose! Lucky guesses, huh?! I did enjoy reading about the differences between the two of you. Very well written.

    ReplyDelete
  111. Hi Alex... you passed?? Wow, I'm shocked.

Hi Nicki, that was fun. I did prefer New Wave, which is probably evidenced by my score... I got 5 right... 5 wrong... so at least I was balanced.

Of course, I still failed miserably.

Okay, gotta go listen to Billy Idol on my obsolete iPod.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Well, I guess I qualify for the Army. I got 100%. And I got to see Def Leppard in concert just the other night. They can still bring it. Glad to meet you, Alex.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Yahoo, the 80s partay is still rockin' at Alex's place. :) Liz, I promise you'll be sick of me by the end of the month. ;) It's good to see New Wave getting some votes. :) And leave it to you, Jennifer, to bring up Milli Vanilli. Hehe, yup, they definitely count as something.

Hey, to show my appreciation to everyone for indulging me and taking the quiz, I'm going to attempt to attach an 80s Metal playlist. Did it work?

    ReplyDelete
  114. Sorry it took so long to comment, I usually do it from my phone or iPad and I couldn't access the quiz that way.

But never fear - I managed to score a perfect 10 out of 10, didn't even have to think either. Those were all automatic answers. I dub myself '80's master.'

Unfortunately, chick lit might be too far out of my realm of enjoyment to read, but I do agree that the cover is pretty good. I wish Nicki all the best.

  115. 7 out of 10, pretty good for an old Duran Duran fan, but then my school was known for all things AC/DC with a senior class theme of Back in Black . . .so I guess it makes sense. Those songs brought back some memories . . . and the vision of big hair so big that I couldn't see past a row of it in a tiered seating theater . . . and they were seated.

  116. Sharon, that's good stuff!

Chipper, I've seen them several times - yes they can!

Rusty, I saw that picture of a younger you - if you hadn't scored a perfect ten, I'd be shocked.

    Tyrean, oh yeah!

  117. Well, I got 60% in the test of metal mania, approved by the hair ...

    ReplyDelete
  118. I got a 70. I did listen to rock in the 80s. I guess that means I should have gotten them all right, but I only remember my favorites (GNR, Aerosmith and Van Halen among them).

Thanks Alex and Nicki for such a fun post!

    ReplyDelete
  119. Iron Maiden? Motley what? I think I was listening to Journey in the 80s and still am. Clearly, I must check out Nicki's work.

Alex, it took mere seconds to tear through that list, brother! Perfect 10. :)
    Rock on, you two.

  122. Leovi, that's great!

James, you are a confirmed metalhead!

    ReplyDelete
  123. All hail Rusty and Jimmy! Robyn, you and I can definitely hang---Journey was my first ever concert!

And still, not one person confessed to Rick Springfield...

Thanks again to everyone who stopped by and el-hugo THANKS to Sir Alex, Ninja Master, for being the ultimate in awesome.

  124. 70% and I like metal...mmh! Where were all the Metallic questions, lol.
Reminds me of getting our new Bose speakers. WE lived in a duplex and our neighbors cracked it up all the time. Boy, did we have fun when our new speakers arrived. When they started to pound the wall, we turned it up till we couldn't hear them pound anymore, lol.
They were always blasting us; it was our turn. Europe's Final Countdown and Motley Crew's Wild Side were a great warm up~

  125. Alex & Nicki-

    10 for 10

It was too easy a quiz...they had Blue Murder as an answer, they shoulda thrown in a Blue Murder song!

And I'll confess to Rick Springfield..."Jesse's Girl" is a power pop gem-he is one of the guilty pleasures in my collection.

    As is Night Ranger...and Poison.

  127. What a fun post!! I LOVE the '80's!!! And I actually got 90% on the quiz ~ woo hoo!!! My musical tastes were all over the place back then. (And I didn't see any Queensryche!) Of course - I also listened to a lot of Depeche Mode... :)

    ReplyDelete
  128. And we have a Rick Springfield. :D I feel complete now. Thank you, Larry.

Queensryche! THAT's the band I was trying to remember. My friend's wife traveled around Japan w/ them as a crew member in the 80s! And yet I couldn't think of they're name for the quiz. :(

    ReplyDelete
  129. Ella, that's wicked - I like it!

George, thanks! I think that was the biggest one yet. Sent my stats off the chart this week.

    Donea, good for you!

    Nicki, how could you forget????

    ReplyDelete
  130. For not being a metal head I did pretty good.. %80. Boo yah!
Who could forget the hair bands of the 80s?? I grew up listening to them. :)

    ReplyDelete
  131. Woo hoo, I got 100%! Except I guessed the Iron Maiden song. Other 80s bands, hmmm... there are so many! Crowded House, The Stone Roses...
