A to Z Challenge - X - We've Got Movie Sign!!

X marks the spot - for May movies! (Sadly the X-Men movie is not among them… Next month!!!) For all of my new followers and blogger buddies, I post a select list of upcoming movies every month. So, if you want to know what all the cool people are seeing in the theater, keep reading. (And by cool, I mean those enjoying the air conditioning as well as the Ninja cool people!)

All descriptions courtesy of the IMDB.

May 3

DVD - Green Hornet - Not enough to pull me in the theater, but hopefully worth a NetFlix rental

May 6

Thor
Director: Kenneth Branagh
Stars: Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Hopkins, Natalie Portman
The Plot: The warrior Thor (Hemsworth) is cast out of the fantastic realm of Asgard by his father Odin (Hopkins) for his arrogance and sent to Earth to live among humans. Falling in love with scientist Jane Foster (Portman) teaches Thor much-needed lessons, and his new-found strength comes into play as a villain from his homeland sends dark forces toward Earth.
Oh yeah, I’m there!!

May 13

Priest
Director: Scott Charles Stewart
Stars: Paul Bettany, Cam Gigandet, Maggie Q
The Plot: A priest (Bettany) disobeys church law to track down the vampires who kidnapped his niece.
Again, this movie just looks awesome. And on Friday the 13 - nice!

May 20

Pirates of the Cariibbean: On Stranger Tides
Director: Rob Marshall
Stars: Johnny Depp, Penélope Cruz, Ian McShane
The Plot: After crossing paths with a woman from his past (Cruz), Captain Jack Sparrow (Depp) is swept aboard the Queen Anne's Revenge, the ship of the formidable pirate Blackbeard (McShane), on an unexpected mission to find the elusive fountain of youth.
I wasn’t crazy about the last two, but now that they’ve dumped Will and Elizabeth, it appears the story will return to silly fun.

May 27

Kung Fu Panda 2
Director: Jennifer Yuh
Stars: Jack Black, Angelina Jolie, Jackie Chan
The Plot: Po (voice of Black) and the Furious Five venture to China to battle a villain and uncover the secrets of Po's mysterious origins.
More awesomeness! And Black REALLY needs a hit right now…

Any look enticing to you?

  1. Meh, nothing really grabs me so far. I'm sure there'll be something though. I can't spend the whole summer in the sun, it would tuin my pallid complexion.

  2. I'm with mooderino. This is looking a little samey. Maybe they should be accepting more screenplays from us? Well, maybe not me, but some of the others at least.

    ReplyDelete
  3. Yep, totally wanna see Thor. The rest? I can wait. :) And what's up with Jack Black anyway? I love him.

    ReplyDelete
  4. We have Priest trailers, posters and billboards all over the place. Any good?

    Life on The Farm

  5. I can't decide about Thor. I mean, I'll see it because of the whole Avengers thing, but I'm not that excited.

I want to see Pirates, but I hate Penelope Cruz. Decisions, decisions.

    ReplyDelete
  6. A good way to use the letter X.
    Interesting as always.

    Have a lovley day.
    Yvonne,

  7. I think the kids will definitely want to see the Pirates and the Panda movie.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I'm not "feelin'" any of these. At $10 a pop, a movie really has to grab me.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Maybe Thor? Haven't decided if I'll see in theaters or wait for the DVD.

    ReplyDelete
  10. None of these really look appealing. But our town is getting a new IMAX theatre, so maybe they'll show something I'll be interested in.

  11. My family saw Green Hornet while I was in Aruba - they said it wasn't very good. However, my husband and boys are totally pumped about Thor and can hardly wait to see it. Not many movies get them to go full price (we usually go to the dollar theatre or wait for Netflix) but this is definitely one!

  12. Mood, can't have that!

Porky, I'm all for that. Thor is receiving outstanding reviews though, so excited about that movie.

Pk, he's made only three good movies I can think of.

Grandpa, haven't seen any reviews yet...

Karen, Thor is 93% on Rotten Tomatoes! And I don't like Cruz either.

    Elizabeth, nothing wrong with that.

Liz, it's 93% on Rotten Tomatoes and getting great buzz.

li, you'll get some cool movies with an IMAX!

  13. i cannot wait for the pirate 4 movie.. i am a little pirate at heart. the rest i will wait to see in way of show to dvd or even cable.

    ReplyDelete
  14. We have the same taste in movies. Are you watching any of the new TV series, Camelot, Borgais, and Game of Thrones?

    ReplyDelete
  15. I'm pretty excited about Thor. I want to see Priest, too! Thanks for posting these.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I want to see KungFu Panda! How cool!

    ReplyDelete
  17. These look pretty good.. I'm really excited for Kung Fu Panda and Thor!

Sorry I haven't been around for a while, I've been somewhat disconnected... I have a lot to catch up on! Hope all is well with you :)

    ReplyDelete
  18. I plan on seeing all of these in theaters. Fact

    ReplyDelete
  19. I am SO going to see PRIEST. It looks fab! Also Pirates, who can resist!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Well, regardless of Rotten Tomatoes' critiques, I'm looking forward to Thor. Anything that's has a Branaugh/Hopkins combination will at least have something solid about it. But, then, I'm an old fogie and don't care what other people think of the movies I go to -- I go for my own enjoyment.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Yep, Thor is actually going to drive me into the theater. Priest looks interesting too.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Pirates of the Caribbean!!!! My kids, hubby and I can't wait!

    ReplyDelete
  23. looking forward to Natalie Portman, um, I mean Thor.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I think I'll take my boys to Thor. I'm a sucker for a good "God" movie, and Norse Gods rock! (and roll - like thunder)

    ReplyDelete
  25. Thor and Priest, please! The rest can suck it.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Where are the triple x rated ones?!?!

    I'm kidding!!!! LOL!!!

I'm so looking forward to the Pirates film!! Yay for Johnny Depp.

    Take care
    x

  27. I want to see Priest. It "looks" very pretty, I hope it has plenty of good story too.

Quick question for you Alex - are you guys going to leave up the participant list of the A to Z Challenge for a little while after April is over? I don't know about anyone else, but I've only gotten through about 150 blogs and would like more time to visit them.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Hummmm....think I'll wait for the next round, but thanks for the news!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I'll be thinking of you when I see signboard or trailer of any of the movies. Thanks Alex.

    ReplyDelete
  30. What no x blogs/bloggers? 'Er maybe they are a for a more mature audience. *snicker*

Priest is a new one for me. Look like fun.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Anything with Jack Black! (=

A lot of awesome movies coming out in the next few months.

And pretty sure I am Ninja cool.

    ReplyDelete
  32. I'll certainly want to watch Thor. And "Priest" looks interesting.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Can you believe I've only seen the first Pirates movie?
OUt of these, I'll probably see kung fu panda being a mom of three children and all!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I am so out of touch with movies. We have no TV reception to speak of around here. So I appreciate the heads up on upcoming flicks. Had no idea another Pirates was coming out. And the six-year-old will likely want to see Kung Fu Panda 2. Thanks!!!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Seems like X is really the dog letter of the whole month. A lot of people seem to be really struggling with this one. I'm just glad you were able to showcase movies without dipping into the X-Rated genre, Alex!

    ReplyDelete
  36. ACK! You don't like Pirates?!
Words fail me, but I will try not to judge you too harshly :)

Just saw the trailer for the Harry Potter movie. Very...well words fail me again.

Thor looks the best of next months bunch (other than Pirates, of course) But I will probably wait for it to come out in DVD.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Thor of course looks to be a winner. I hope Kung Fu Panda doesn't suck as the entire fam loved the first one.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Jeremy, a zombie pirate?

Ciara, some of those I don't have the channel.

Writing Nut, that's all right. We all need a little down time.

    Sarah, that's why you're cool!

Sharlene, Thor does have a great pedigree!

    Budd, at least you're honest.

    Mary, that's right!

Kitty, you'll just have to use your imagination...

Sommer, the list will be up for at least another month here!

Holly, not one that was a good blogger buddy!

    Jo, I think you are!

Kelly, I didn't enjoy the second two movies, although a lot of people did.

Susan, there's a lot of us six year olds out there...

Jeffrey, I wouldn't even know what to select!

Huntress, I liked the first one.

    ReplyDelete
  39. The only one of these I would probably see is Pirates..I've only seen the first one..but I love Johnny Depp..he's one of the most talented actors working today!

    ReplyDelete
  40. the Thor movie looks good. I am guessing this takes place in modern times since you referenced a teacher.
    Nancy
    N. R. Williams, The Treasures of Carmelidrium.

  41. IMDB is a favorite site Can't even begin to think of the arguments I've won just quickly looking something up and then shoving my macbook in their face :-) to prove it. Hadn't heard about Thor, but this Scandinavian girl loves mythology, and Natalie Portman, so I'll be there!

  42. Ugh, another year going and gone! My bday is May 13th! I love Friday the 13th, ALWAYS has been good to me. ;)
    Maybe Priest?

  43. Alas, I don't make it out to the movies much at all anymore. Thus, until these fine selections arrive on DVD, I'll just have to recreate each of them on my own. It's kind of like Be Kind Rewind, only without Jack Black or Mos Def. (Sigourney Weaver may drop by unexpectedly, however.)

    ReplyDelete
  44. Thanks for the list. None will be out here just yet, but I'll keep them in mind for our return to your side of the pond in the near future. I sincerely hope the next Pirates is better. The last one just about killed me.

    ReplyDelete
  45. I want to see all of them. I haven't seen the first Kung Fu Panda but I'll catch up. We usually go to the movies every Friday night so thanks for the heads up.

    ReplyDelete
  46. None of them really jump out at me . . . but thanks for the heads-up!

    ReplyDelete
  47. The Thor movie sounds most interesting. Probably won't get to a theater any time soon. Thanks for the info!

  48. Nancy, it does!

Tina, I usually lose those arguements...

    Elizabeth, that's good to know!

Nate, let us know if she makes an appearance.

Alison, thanks - everyone really liked the last movie, but I hated the ending.

    Kimberly, so do we!

    Golden, not even Thor?

    ReplyDelete
  49. As much as I love Jack Sparrow, I think I'll miss Kiera and Orlando.

Hope Priest and Thor are decent.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Gotta say - can't wait for the sillyness that is Thor and I love Paul Bettany (ever since Master and Commander) so Priest is going to be a must too, thanks for the heads up!

  51. I can't wait to see Kung Fu Panda 2. I didn't know Thor was directed by Kenneth Branagh. All of a sudden I'm excited about it!

I agree that now that Will and Elizabeth are not in Pirates, it's probably be better but I'm still not sure...

    Jai

  52. Up for them all except Kung foo 2

    ReplyDelete
  53. THOR!!!!!
    and then
    Capt. America!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  54. I want to see ALL of them. Particularly excited about seeing Johnny Depp (not necessarily the movie) ;)

    ReplyDelete
  55. I totaly can't wait for Kung Fu Panda 2. I have an award for you. It will be up on my blog tomorrow morning. =)

    Poetry, Quotes and Book Reviews.

    ReplyDelete
  56. A lot of people aren't familiar with Norse mythology, like my husband who scoffs at the movie. I want to see it. I also want to see Priest. Paul Bettany is just an awesome actor....wow.

I'm rough drafting a post highlighting upcoming releases and your sequel is going to be on the list. Is there any info you want me to share/include? Here or in email...?

    ReplyDelete
  57. It's the summer of Marvel and DC and I'm loving it!!!!

    ReplyDelete

  61. I'm a little curious about The Green Hornet. Have a great weekend!

  62. I'm ready to see "Water for Elephants." I loved the book. I guess that means I'm not an action adventure watcher.

  63. Laura, Bettany was excellent in that film.

    Jai, I'm glad we agree.

    Heather's excited!

    Tiger, thank you!

    Words, I'll get with you!

E, Thor is going to rock!

    ReplyDelete
  64. Couldn't have cared less about Thor, until he spoke (in a preview) of a place where science and magic meld. Curious... I've heard that he & Captain America are out this year to preceed an Avengers movie next year. Not from an official source, but from a hardcore fan.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Nothing's grabbing me out of this list. The upcoming film making festival rounds that intrigues me is called Roadie-- it's about a guy who had been a roadie with Blue Oyster Cult for like 12 years and goes back home to live with his elderly mother. The clip I saw looks pretty good and lots of good music in it.

  66. Great X; the THOR preview does look intriguing~ I am a huge Paul Bettany fan; he has master skills at being a chameleon. This one looks good, too~
    Pass the popcorn, will ya?!

    ReplyDelete
  67. They all look enticing; Thor especially.

    Thanks for the round up.

  68. I am a movie nut...That's why I was such a good manager of a Video store. But alas, I can't afford to go anymore, too far and too much money. But I still love to see the previews and watch the DVDs.
I have to say all but the Green Hornet movie caught my interest.

  69. I am all over Thor. Priest... Might be too scary for me (and it doesn't take much either.) Pirates I'm also on the fence about. I thought it was ending at the third movie but Johnny might be able to pull me to the theater.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Alex, I know you've seen it already but just to let the others know, there is a review of Thor up at my blog, Ric's Reviews. I managed to catch a preview screening here in sunny Scotland.

    ReplyDelete
  71. So many interesting movies coming out. It is hard to decide what to see first.

    ReplyDelete
  72. This is not something I usually get to say...I want to see them all!

    ReplyDelete
  73. Priest, Pirates, and Panda are DEFINITELY on my list.
