March Movie Preview!

It’s movie time again! All plot descriptions courtesy of the IMDB

4th -
RANGO
Director: Gore Verbinski
Stars: Johnny Depp, Isla Fisher, Timothy Olyphant
The Plot: The story of a chameleon with an identity crisis.
Previews for this one are quirky and funny.

THE ADJUSTMENT BUREAU
Director: George Nolfi
Stars: Matt Damon, Emily Blunt
The Plot: A rising politician (Damon) falls for a ballerina (Blunt), only to be stymied by mysterious forces keeping the would-be lovers apart.
Sounds mysterious.

BEASTLY
Director: Daniel Barnz
Stars: Alex Pettyfer, Vanessa Hudgens, Mary-Kate Olsen
The Plot: Manhattanite Kyle Kingson (Pettyfer) is young, wealthy, beautiful, and cruel, but he picks the wrong classmate to prank when Kendra (Olsen) casts a spell that turns him into everything he despises.
This was supposed to come out last summer – never a good sign.

11th -

BATTLE: LOST ANGELES
Director: Jonathan Liebesman
Stars: Aaron Eckhart, Michelle Rodriguez, Bridget Moynahan
The Plot: As a full-scale alien invasion threatens the Earth, in Los Angeles, a veteran Marine staff sergeant (Eckhart) leads his new platoon into battle with an uncommon enemy.
Have you seen the previews? Wow, this looks so cool!

BLACK DEATH
Director: Christopher Smith
Stars: Eddie Redmayne, Sean Bean, Carice van Houten
The Plot: Set during the height of the Black Death, a seasoned knight (Bean) and a young monk (Redmayne) travel to a village rumored to be unaffected by the pandemic.
Similar to Season of the Witch, but with Sean Bean, it’s got to be better.

15th -

On DVD-

The Fighter – Up for many Oscars!

Sharktopus – For those of you who missed this SyFy travesty last fall, please check out my Sharktopus Play-by-Play. You have been warned!

18th -

PAUL
Director: Greg Mottola
Stars: Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Seth Rogen
The Plot: Two British comic-book geeks (Pegg and Frost) traveling across the U.S. encounter an alien outside Area 51, and with their unexpected new companion aboard their RV, they find themselves chased by federal agents -- as well as the father of the young woman the trio accidentally kidnaps.
Potential to be bad, however – it has Simon Pegg and Nick Frost! Those guys are awesome.

25th -

SUCKER PUNCH
Director: Zack Snyder
Stars: Emily Browning, Vanessa Hudgens, Abbie Cornish
The Plot: A young girl is institutionalized by her wicked stepfather. Retreating to an alternative reality as a coping strategy, she envisions a plan which will help her escape from the facility.
Again, have you seen the previews? This looks kick-ass!

29th -

On DVD-
Tangled – Sweet movie. Should’ve been nominated for Best Animated Picture.

Don’t forget the Oscars are on Sunday night! I’m prepared for triumph and disappointment. Inception will get further shafted and How to Train Your Dragon will lose. And it will be WAY too long...

Monday - The Super 8 Debut Albums Blogfest!

What movies have caught your eye for March?

72 comments:

  1. I'm dying to see Sucker Punch as I am a huge Zack Snyder fan, but I love me the werewolves so I will be going to see Red Riding Hood. Plus it has one of my fave actors, Gary Oldman. I'm also interested in the comedy Hall Pass. Men getting a week off from marriage, I'm there.

  2. I'm looking forward to PAUL and SUCKER-PUNCH. Have you seen the traliers for INSIDIOUS and APOLLO 18 (it reveals the REAL reason we never went back to the moon. Cue the scary music, LOL.)

    ReplyDelete
  3. I want to see the Adjustment Bureau and Battle Los Angeles. Both look like fun.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Adjustment Bureau and Battle Los Angeles are exactly in top of my list, Sucker Punch also will be a fun time at the cinema.

  5. Battle of Los Angeles sounds like my kind of movie, but it's getting a little close to home. I like the title and the promo pic for The Adjustment Bureau

  6. I'm looking forward to Paul because I love seeing Simon Pegg and Nick Frost together. Thanks for the movie preview! Have a great weekend! :)

  7. After a serious dry spell, 5 movies I can't wait to see! Rango's been on my must-see list for a while, and Paul should be HILARIOUS, considering Pegg and Frost's track record.

    ReplyDelete
  8. Melissa, be warned - Hall Pass is really low over at Rotten Tomatoes.

Roland, I have! Not too sure about the Apollo 18 one though.

Milo, it has been a LONG dry spell for movies!

  9. Oh, I'm there tomorrow night. Love Oscar night! I'm thinking we should all be on Twitter watching together and using the hashtag: #watchingOscars

    ReplyDelete
  10. I'm literally dying to see Sucker Punch! Huge fan here! :)

Watched Rango's trailer a few days ago and it looked great. Plus, I like Verbinski a lot.

Beastly looks like the next Teilight to me.

I bet Battle LA will be spectacular!

I'll watch Bureau only for Emily. I just love her.

I've already seen Black Death, The Fighter and Tangled.

Oh, and Paul looks hilarious! :)

    ReplyDelete
  11. I'm with you on Tangled. So amazing.

My husband really wants to see Battle: Los Angeles, and both of us want to see The Adjustment Bureau. Kids want to see Rango. Thank goodness for Netflix.

  12. Wow, so much good stuff coming out next month. Black Death looks promising, but I'm such a sucker for that sort of thing. I've been interested in Adjustment Bureau too, so we'll see if it turns out as good as it promises. You missed Red Riding Hood. Twilight director(pass) but NIN in the soundtrack. I'm torn...

    ReplyDelete
  13. There's a ton of good movies coming out next months. I'm looking forward to seeing the Adjustment Bureau. Matt Damon is one of the best actors out there. :)

    ReplyDelete
  14. Ah, man, I'm looking forward to a bunch of those movies. Bot not the Oscars. It's like a four-hour awkward moment...

    ReplyDelete
  15. I'm very excited for the Adjustment Bureau, as well as the Black Death. The history nerd inside me loves the Middle Ages - it was one of my favorite units to teach.

    ReplyDelete
  16. I'm watching BEASTLY (you know who's the reason), skipping ADUSTMENT BUREAU (you know who's the reason), watching BATTLE LA, already seen BLACK DEATH (Wasn't bad if you know what to expect), must watch SUCKER PUNCH (I've never missed a Snyder film in my life) and loved TANGLED.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Pk, I will remember that!

    Nebular, how was Black Death?

Julie, you just might enjoy Rango as well.

Will, yes, I skipped it for a reason!

    Bryan, perfect description!

Paul, and the swords and battles are cool too!

    Dezz, I know the reasons!

    ReplyDelete
  18. A trailer of Paul was shown on the TV, I thought it may be good, but I'm the sort who wait for dvds to come into the shops.
You have done a good review as always and well worth the read.

    Yvonne.

  19. I am so behind on my movie watching. Last night my husband and I saw The A Team for the first time. Loved it btw.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Alex! Thanks for the heads up! It's funny how the guy is called beautiful in Beastly! Lol...

The plot sounds very interesting for Sucker Punch--the boards look very appealing for the male audience. Will it be satisfying for the female audience too, you think?

    Have a great weekend!

  21. Tangled is my all-time favourite now. I wish it'd get the Oscar.

Paul, just saw it today and I was quite surprised. It's not as silly I thought and plays wonderfully with the nerdiness and the conventions of Alien-assumptions. I had a really good laugh.

Thanks, I'm interested about Beastly now, even though it was delayed.

    Nahno ∗ McLein

  22. I'm starting to think all Matt Damon movies look alike. I'll probably skip that.
Tangled is on to be purchased list for my daughter. We loved it at the theater. My daughter wants to see Beastly and I want to see Black Death.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Alex, I thought Black Death was just good overall but not particularly scary nor very thrilling. I reckon you might find it a bit boring..

    ReplyDelete
  24. I don't even care if it is hokey. I'm going to see Battle: Los Angeles for sure. I love this type of movie.
Rango is going on my list, maybe it's because of Johnny Depp, I'm not sure...
    Black Death, probably!
The bad guys in The Adjustment Bureau look a little too much like the "watchers" in Fringe, but I'll probably see it anyway.

    Thanks! I like these posts...

    ReplyDelete
  25. We're about to head out the door to go see The King's Speech - if I can get my husband to quit working on the bench he's making.

I saw previews for Battle: L.A. and The Adjustment Bureau. I may go see them. It's hard to tell from the previews if they'll be good or cheesy.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I definitely want to see Sucker punch.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Yvonne, I suspected you'd know about Paul.

Karen, I just saw it a week ago, so don't feel bad!

Elizabeth, for the women who want to kick ass, I'm sure Sucker Punch will be great! Besides, Snyder did a movie with half-naked men. Turnabout is only fair.

    Nahno, Tangled should've been nominated!

Nebular, I'll save it for NetFlix rental then.

Pat, thanks! Sometimes it gets a low amount of comments, but days beforehand I'll have people asking about the preview, so I keep doing them.

Helen, let me know what you think! It's not playing here.

    ReplyDelete
  28. ow! What a post! Rango looks, well, quirky and funny. Looking forward to it. Adjustment Bureau is a great premise but could also bomb for whatever reasons. Battle for Los Angeles looks like my kind of movie, but so did Skyline. Let's hope Battle is as awesome as the previews!

    Still laughing at Shaktopus. LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Meant to say Wow!, not Ow!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Can always count on you to keep me in the movie loop. Thanks! Rango looks kinda fun...

    ReplyDelete
  31. Out of all the movies you listed, Beastly sounds closest to what I would want to see.

    ReplyDelete
  32. As Johnny Depp is my other husband along with Denzel Washington and Daniel Craig, I know what my March movie will be. Ahem.
    :-) Take care
    x

    ReplyDelete
  33. Stephen, really hope it's not as bad as Skyline. And perhaps the "ow" was in connection to Sharktopus?

    Lynda, secretly love bashing it!

    Karen, it does look fun.

Jeffrey, hope its delay wasn't for all the wrong reasons then...

    ReplyDelete
  34. Hah! I read the book to Beastly - that was great!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I can't wait to see Tangled - haven't watched it yet! But a few of them look good. I rarely go to the movies so I'll have to wait! Can't wait to see what wins Sunday night!

    ReplyDelete
  36. I like the premise of Rango. That looks really funny. I think I need to see Lost Angeles too, since I grew up there amongst aliens. Thanks for the reviews and for the very sweet comment on my last post, Alex. It means a lot.

  37. So excited to get Tangled on DVD :)

  38. Three titles I can't wait! THE ADJUSTMENT BUREAU, Battle Los Angeles, SUCKER PUNCH!!

Waiting these for ages :) Especially the last one!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Some of those movies look so good! Thanks for the notice.

    ReplyDelete
  40. I am geared up for action after this long winter...Adjustment Bureau and Battle Los Angeles are just the ticket. Saw the previews in theatre last week for BLA and it looks badass all the way. Thanks Alex for the great reviews.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I can't wait to see SUCKER PUNCH! Absolutely awesome trailers!!

And of cause I want to see PAUL. It is mandatory to watch movies like this once a while :-))

My wife and I watched BLACK DEATH in a late show. We both have been impressed especially because there have been no other persons with us. I was like a private show.
BLACk DEATH is impressive and different compared to fantasy movies. It is more like a contemporary historical document. The atmosphere is intense and oppressive.

Highly recommended if you are interested in the period of time.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Thanks for sharing Alex...you gave me an idea what movies to watch once kids will be home for the summer vacation or before summer classes start...

Twill be a great bonding moment, what these super movies...I hope we can have them on DVD comes the last week of March...

    ReplyDelete
  43. Just glad there seems to be SOME good movies to see for a change :)

  44. Battle: Los Angeles has 'my kind of movie' written all over it! Thanks, Alex. You're the only source of movie info for me. :)

    ReplyDelete
  45. Laura, you will enjoy Tangled.

    You're welcome, Robyn.

Doo, I know - they've been taunting us for months.

Chuck, I'm so ready as well.

Edi, I do want to see Black Death - I've been intrigued after seeing a preview months ago.

Amity, your whole family will enjoy Tangled - hope you can get it in time.

    Jules - I know!!

Laura, thank you. I'll try to stay on top of it.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Tangled got robbed not getting nominated. I thought it was stellar.

The Fighter is superb. I highly recommend it.

My daughter is in love with Alex Pettyfer (hey, she's 15) thus I sat through I Am Number Four and will be sitting through Beastly with her next week. (he *is* pretty) Not optimistic.

Hope you're enjoying your weekend, Alex. :)

    ReplyDelete
  47. If it can live up to the trailers, Battle LA looks awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  48. I really want to see The Adjustment Bureau, The Black Death, and Battle: Lost Angels. And Rango and The Fighter. So many films and so little time.

But I can do without anything that's got an Olsen in it.

    Jai

    ReplyDelete
  49. Lola, Tangled did get robbed! And having a great weekend.

    Words, let's hope it does.

    Jai, that's funny!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Very nice. I just have to watch Battle: Los Angeles.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Can't wait to watch BEASTLY! Hope it doesn't disappoint... It's probably a good thing I haven't read the book yet, in that respect!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Been looking forward to Sucker Punch...Beastly sounds interesting, we'll see.

Did you reveiw I am Number Four? I'm hearing mixed reviews...is it worth the money or should I wait for DVD?

    ReplyDelete
  54. Asma, it was great!

    Rachel, probably.

Raquel, I refused to see it after reading the story behind the publishing machine and the author who earned a whole $500 for the story.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I'm excited for Rango and Adjustment Bureau. I'm a sucker for animated flicks.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I just saw the trailer for Rango today, and I really want to see it!

Beastly looks interesting.. I've read the book, and while it does seem somewhat different, I think I'll see it :)

And I loved Tangled, it was quite funny!

Hope you had a wonderful weekend!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Thanks Alex for the visit and comment much appreciated as always.

Denise, I do plan to see them...

  61. Ha, do I sense that you love Nicolas Cage about as much as I do (as in, he totally sucks)? Oh, and Sucker Punch looks amazing!! So excited.

    ReplyDelete
  62. So many great movies coming out. I can't wait. I am going to read Beastly before watching it though.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Rango looks like something I would watch. I like the blog man, following.

    ReplyDelete
  64. BEASTLY and SUCKER PUNCH are on my "to see" list. Hopefully they aren't terrible. :P

    ReplyDelete
  65. I'm not excited to see anything hitting theaters in March, but I do want to get Paul on DVD.

    ReplyDelete
  66. I'm down for The Adjustment Bureau and Beastly. Not sure anything else is a MUST see right now. I don't know why, but I have NO desire to see Rango. At all. :)

    ReplyDelete
