Review – Iron Man II

I’d read an assortment of reviews online before seeing the flick and wasn’t sure what to expect.

Let me tell you – Iron Man II rocks!

The humor is great. Especially between Tony and Pepper. Robert Downey Jr. simply commands your attention from beginning to end. Even when you are turned off by his arrogance, you will still enjoy his character and the overall ride.

Mickey Rourke is great. He is tough but personable.

Don Cheadle is a fantastic actor. (His character was played by Terrance Howard in the first movie.) So good to see him don a suit! There is promise of more to come, too.

The director, Jon Favreau, does a fine job adapting Iron Man to the screen. The set pieces were great and the movie taken to a higher level by great cast performances. Between this great installment and the upcoming Avengers movie, Iron Man could go on forever.

It did lag a little in the middle, but so did the first one. The story was fresh, but they stuck to the formula that worked.

And Scarlett Johansson was rather hot! (Despite the fact that she could be Robert Downey Jr.’s daughter!)

Overall, I recommend everyone go see Iron Man II.
Oh yeah - and the AC/DC soundtrack was awesome!

  1. This was the review I was hoping to see :D I've been excited about Iron Man II for a while, but some of the reviews have made me a bit wary. I'm glad that it lives up to the awesomeness set in place by the first one, and from what I've heard of the soundtrack it kicks all kinds of ass! Here's hoping the Avengers movie will be just as good.

  2. Another excellent review,
In our regional news here in the UK, They are raving about the new Robin Hood film with Russell Crowe.
Apparently it was shot just an hours drive away from where I live,
and part of Windsor where they had to get permission from the queen.
Although I am not a film goer as such it is a big improvements of any made before of Robin Hood.

    Enjoy your week-end.
    Yvonne.

  4. oh, sometimes I feel I'm the only one in this cyber world who doesn't care at all for DARK KNIGHTS, TRANSFORMERS and IRON MEN :))

Glad you had a nice evening at the cinemas, Alex ;)

  5. Adding it to my list of "To Watch when it Comes to Cabl," which is how we see most of our movies. Thanks for the review.

  7. I've watched the movie and loved your review. To me though it was all Downey. Amazing how they cast the perfect person for the job.

  8. Jamie, if you dug the first one, you'll dig this one. And the AC/DC soundtrack was perfect for the movie.

Yvonne, I intend to see Robin Hood as well, although reviews here are lackluster. Very cool it was filmed near your home!

Dez, you either like the way movies handle superheroes or you don't!

Summer, let me know what you thought.

Ocean Girl, I can't think of another actor who could've pulled it off so well.

  10. Tony is totally awesome and his arrogance is quirky and charming because he is very rich and very fabulous. :)

  11. I loved the first "Iron Man"-- glad this one makes the grade. It will go on my NetFlix list.
Disappointed that one of my least favorite groups, AC-DC, did the soundtrack. Never cared for that group much--I think it was all those songs about "hell".

  12. Hagelrat, he's a great character!

Arlee, just a sign of the times when those songs were made.

  13. I passed on a chance to see a screening of the movie before it was out in theaters. Now I'm kickin myself for passing up the opportunity. I'll just have to go see the movie now. I'm a sucker for good special effects!

  14. That was certainly a more detailed review than my son's "awesome!" I may actually go see this one at the theater.

  17. JL - even an iffy movie is worth an early screening.

Beth, he was just summing it up.

Hammer was a jerk! He got what he deserved.

Go, Sadako - you will enjoy!

  18. Alright, I might have to see it. I have to say though, I was not too impressed with the first one. I thought many of the graphics were too hokey. Almost like TRansformers-ish.

Was Don Cheadle in the first one? I don't remember him.

  19. I'm very glad to read your review. We loved Iron Man 1, but I'd seen a couple of luke warm reviews on 2. I still hope to go see it.

  21. My son is there with a friend right now. I'd agreed to go with him, but I can't compete with John, apparently *hmph* I loved the first and I love RDJ (personality warts and all--both as a person and as Tony). Glad to hear it is worth it--won't feel so guilty buying the video for my son's birthday or Christmas.

  22. I think I'll make the effort to see this film. Sounds good.

  23. Cheeseboy, I and II are similar in flavor. And Don was the main Air Force dude.

Helen, it's just like the first! I was worried about all the average reviews as well.

Tart, it would make a fine Christmas gift!

  24. I better go see it then. Actually, I hated Iron Man - I. The story was really boring. Looks like, the second part is better. Great review!

  30. I thoroughly enjoyed it when I went to see it and I'm glad you did too Alex! I completely agree with your review. Gwyneth Paltrow really made me laugh in a couple of places, her comedic reactions were great. And I love Samuel L. Jackson too.

    Thanks for the review!!
