Oscar nominations were announced on Tuesday.
Avatar and The Hurt Locker both received nine nominations.
Inglorious Basterds received eight - thought that was a hoot!
And Star Trek and District Nine each received four.
Not sure how I feel about Up being nominated for both Best Animated and Best Picture...
Anyone care to place bets now...?

ReplyDeleteI've had it in my NetFlix que for a month now! It's Katheryn Bigelow's movie about a bomb difusing squad - or something to that effect. I like her as a director and heard it's really good. Hopefully I'll get to see it before Oscar night.

ReplyDeleteI find the Oscar nominations deadly boring this year. And I think the idea to put ten movies in the run for the main award proved bad, since a bunch of mediocre movies got into the list now.
I liked UP, but it clearly isn't a good enough movie for the main category ....
Ten was overkill, Dez. Don't think District 9 would've made it any other way.
ReplyDeleteAnd hopefully no one throws stones, but I really wasn't crazy about UP. All of the other Pixar films have been so great, too. UP just felt odd and depressing.
Out of the movies you've mentioned, I've only seen Star Trek. Loved it! So I vote it wins whatever it gets nominated for :)

And Elizabeth, it depends on the maturity of your eight year old. There is one heck of a battle scene at the end and images of the forest creatures on fire might bother her. But you DO need to go see it!
What's amazing about Avatar's success is that its self-replicating. The more we hear about how successful it is, the more people go to see it. My wife only went to Avatar for me, but loved it. She told her brother and sister, who also never intended to see it and they loved it and told others. They told two friends...and they told two friends...and so on...and so on...
