My main characters are too much an extension of myself, and my values. <br /><br />What I find interesting about analyzing my writing is how certain themes crop up again and again. Clearly these are areas that I feel strongly about and which affected me greatly over my lifetime. There are certainly things I stay away from in my writing, but I do often find that the violence level in my books are out of my typical comfort zone. I try to avoid being preachy in my writing and at the same time, I depend on my readers to have the good sense to read between the lines when there is a universal value I'm trying to convey. To add to that, though there might be occasionally similarities between me and one of my characters, I am NOT my characters. My characters, even my main protagonists, don't always do the right thing....and wouldn't they be sort of dull if they always did?<br /><br />I hope that makes sense. I'm kind of rambling here. I can write a lot more about this topic, so this is a good question that you raised.
