November 7 question - How has your creativity in life evolved since you began writing?
It’s stretched what I write about. I’ve written non-fiction, contemporary, even poetry! (My WEP entry last month.) I was already playing guitar but I was prodded to go further and now play in a Christian rock band. So my creativity continues to grow.
Are you following the IWSG on Instagram?
Here are the prompts for November:

How has your creativity grown? Want to suggest a theme for WEP? Taking advantage of the holiday sale on books? And what movie catches your attention this month?
I am taking most of November off to write! Not officially NaNo, but I’d like to knock out a good chunk of my current work. My USA friends, have a great Thanksgiving. See you December 5 with the next IWSG post plus tons of movies and a concert review!
And I just realized - it's now been nine years since I began blogging.

Hooray for creativity - and new releases.
I finally saw a preview for Creed II, and I'm ridiculously excited about it. Showdown with the son of the man who killed his father? Count me in!
As always Alex something for everyone on your posts.
Enjoy your November,
Yvonne.
Enjoy your break! Hope you get lots of writing done!
I guess my creativity's grown by writing different genres. What I write seems to evolve over time.
The Grinch sounds good. I wonder what character Angela Landsbury plays? I'm always impressed by people who can play an instrument or sing in public. I'd be way too embarrassed. Good luck with your writing :-)
Great when creativity flows into many outlets. Hope you get a lot of writing done. Another Grinch, wpweee.
I'll be taking my kids to see Ralph Breaks the Internet over Thanksgiving break. It looks really fun! I look forward to all of your reviews, and wish you luck with your writing this month. :)
Hope your break is productive!
I can't help but think that the original Grinch must be best, but this one does have Lansbury and Cumberbatch!
It's a clincher. Taking a sabbatical more or less to come up with lots of creative writing. Good for you Alex!
Hank
Happy IWSG Day! I am happy to hear you will be writing. It’s been awhile since we’ve had an Alex J Cavanaugh adventure.
I have a thought, why not post another snippet of you playing. I for one would love it!
Spirit Visions Soul Songs looks quite inviting and it might make a great holiday gift idea.
Have a great day!
Peace, light and love always
While playing the guitar, does your mind open up to new creative writing phrases or story concepts? I can imagine the music would be quite stimulating.
Alex, take care, and I'm hoping your creativity abounds this month!!!
Happy Thanksgiving!
I always participate in NaNo but never register. It helps keep me accountable but without the pressure so I actually write faster!! Hope you get in all the words too! Enjoy the holiday. I know I will:)
Hi Alex,
Hadn't realized IWSG is on Instagram. I'll have to follow. I could use some prompts! Hope you are well.
I'm using November to feed my WIP too, although not nano-ing.
Happy writing!
Shannon, the first film was really good.
Ellen, I just don't think about the crowd.
Elizabeth, the first Grinch was perfect.
Truedessa, I'll think about it.
Lynn, I do think about stories and plots while playing.
Jennifer, smart plan.
Liza, please do!
Yeh for stretchy creativity! (Okay, that sounds weird, but you know what I mean.)
I stick with the original, old school version of the Grinch. :)
Good luck with your writing this month, Alex, and have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
Yep creativity never really stops growing.
It's great that you've pushed your creativity to the point that you're now in a band :-)
I signed up for NaNo again this year -- it's fun when our region competes against another and I know that every word I write that day counts in beating the competition. Yeah, I'm competitive. And that's why I'm aiming at a double NaNo this year, triple if I can.
Happy writing.
Ronel visiting on IWSG day: Lessons in Writing from Sewing
Blood, Boobs, & Carnage for the WIN!!!
Hi Alex!
Heather
AS far as I am aware I'm not following anyone on Instagram except one of my daughters and I didn't realize that until just the other day. I don't see me getting on Instagram on any regular basis as I'm on the computer too much as it is.
Have a great Thanksgiving!
Arlee Bird
Tossing It Out
Looking forward to Overlord!
That's great how you have expanded your writing so much. I've definitely grown as a nonfiction writing. Can't wait for the Fantastic Beasts movie. Have a great break! I need one too but will have to wait for one.
Lot's of news! And that December blog hop image got me into the spirit of the holidays. Pretty!
I can't wait to see the new Grinch movie. It looks adorable.
Books, boobs and carnage...Sounds right up my alley.
sherry @ fundinmental
Congratulations on blogging for 9 years. That's a long time and quite an accomplishment.
I submitted a suggestion for the WEP February challenge.
I could skip the 3D Grinch and go straight to a claymation one. I think I watch 3D animation because it's what's there, but I honestly prefer any other kind of animation more.
Happy Thanksgiving, Alex.
Look at me at the tippy top of the new releases! Thank you so much for the shout-out, Alex. I appreciate it so much - you know I'm a terrible self-promoter.
Overlord looks very interesting. I may give it a try.
Enjoy your November. I hope you have a fantastic Thanksgiving and get lots of writing done and are able to sneak in some rest too.
Thank you again!!
Elsie
I'm also focusing on writing in November without the pressure of NaNoWriMo. I have several projects to finish up so I can focus on new projects in the new year. Have a great Thanksgiving, Alex.
Instagram--I know I should jump on that opportunity, but I'm scrambling to maintain an author presence on FB And Twitter and still get some writing done. Perhaps when the smoke clears after the holidays. Alex, many thanks for all you do for all of us--and for the movie recommendations!
Me too! Unofficially writing NaNo. Funny thing is even Nov. is one of my busiest months of the year, I find comfort in making myself focus on this one project.
Happy Thanksgiving, dear Alex!
Teresa
Congrats on joining a band! Sounds exciting. Maybe you're going to review your own concert. :) Looking forward to the next WEP and the new anthology is going to be awesome.
Poetry huh? I don't even try that. I'm awful at it. I guess I can do a limerick here and there. Really bad ones. lol
Congrats to the new books especially a shout out to Mary with her beautiful art and Elsie who bares her soul. I want to see the new Fantastic Beasts Movie. I think Overlord sounds good but the poster looks like a horror movie and not a war film even though war is hell. I think creativity in life would shape the stories one writes. One can find inspiration anywhere they look. You have a great month off and happy writing, you are coming back the day before St. Nicholas Day so Dec 5th you should shine your shoes and leave them at the front door. You might get some chocolates in your show the next day⛄️🌞
I don't know why we need another Grinch movie, but I'm sure my kids will watch the shit out of it. Wreck-It Ralph 2 should be fun, though.
I have no idea why everyone is so excited about Fantastic Beasts 2. The first one was so boring AND full of child abuse, and watching Rowling fall all over herself trying to defend Johnny Depp is just painful.
Congrats on the nine-year mark! That's quite an accomplishment.
What band? Is it local, or do you guys have a youtube?? I wanna hear! :D
I'm so proud of Elsie. I've been following her for years now!
I haven't seen the first Creed yet, but your comment lol!
I' a big Rocky fan, so I am looking forward to Creed 11.
Tackling multiple forms of writing is said to make a well-rounded writer. Overlord looks wicked and reminds me of Wolfenstein. :)
Ronel, hope you quadruple!
Heather, I knew that would amuse you.
Fran, it looks so wicked cool.
Elsie, you're welcome.
Rhonda, it's more than I could handle.
Nick, funny!
Birgit, it is definitely a horror film.
CD - watch the shit out of it. Hope they do it.
Deb, I do have an audio of just me on YouTube somewhere...
Stretching is always good. And that's a great giveaway!
I haven't generated any creativity this morning, yet, so I got nothing.
I don't know...I much prefer the old Grinch cartoon with Boris Karloff. The Jim Carrey version? The kids loved it. But, as for me? Meh. I'll check out the newest version, though. Gotta be better than the live-action one, but can it beat the old cartoon? We'll see.
Can't wait to see the new Fantastic Beasts movie. Always love watching The Grinch, but was surprised they remade once again.
Thanks for stopping by my blog. Happy Holidays! Juneta
Nine years is quite the commitment, especially how involved you are in commenting on fellow writers' blogs. I probably started blogging about 8 months after you started. Congratulations to the authors with new releases!
Way to go with creativity, Alex! Congrats on blogging for 9 years! Rock on!
Did you already review the Queen movie? That's the one I want to see next. Congrats on nine years of blogging. You really rocked it!!!
You reminded me that I now write different lengths (short stories, flash fiction--WEP, novellas) rather than just full-length novels, most because of IWSG. Stretching our limits makes us more creative.
Hope you have an awesome November. It's great to see that writing has expanded your horizons. :)
My creativity keeps going down the drain after watching another DC movie. It's the weirdest thing. Grading tons of papers doesn't help either. What I need is some peace and quiet, preferably in the middle of the night. Now, if you know a thing or two about my neighbors, that's not gonna happen any um night soon.
Way to go, Elsie!
Fantastic Beasts... 2. Not so sure about that one.
Congrats to all those with new releases. Not so sure about the November movie releases.
David, it does indeed!
Al! Good to hear from you. Yeah, the Jim Carrey one was horrible.
Jennifer, we've hung in there.
Mary, no, it comes out next month I think. Maybe this month. Anyway, soon!
Diane, yes it does.
Blue, ah, but Aquaman is supposed to be awesome!
None of those movies interest me. I have a feeling we're going to have trouble picking out a movie to watch the day after Thanksgiving (a tradition we've had since our kids were little).
Enjoy your break and may the writing go well.
Have fun writing this month, Alex! Good luck to those who've entered the IWSG anthology!
Hope you have a great November and get lots of words down! I'm trying to gear back into the writing groove with my family member on the mend! :)
Will be seeing the newest JKR release when it comes out! Already have my ticket!
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family Alex!
Happy November, Captain!
Nine years? Leapin' Lizards! Guess that's why your blogs are so entertaining - you're a pro ;-)
Interesting list of books and films. "Soul Wanderer" sounds like a good read. Hubs will no doubt want to see "Creed II. Yet another remake (The Grinch) of a classic always makes me wonder why there aren't new classics being introduced.
I don't recall you mentioning the name of your band. Can I check it out on YouTube?
Happy writing!
Enjoy your time off. I'll only be around occasionally too as I try to finish up a new first draft. No movie temptations for me this month but I have a few I'm going to rent that I missed in theaters. Have a great Thanksgiving.
Go, Elsie! That's my gal!
Thanks for pulling it all together so nicely, and regularly, Alex.
Happy November and a grateful Thanksgiving to you.
Not much going on with movies this month. The books however look quite interesting.
I think I'm finally going to get started on Instagram. I'm going to check out the IWSG challenge and see how it works. :) You play in a Christian rock band? Will wonders never cease! :)
Best of luck with your November writing plans! I'd be interested in Overlord and the new Grinch movie.
Without you, Alex, there would be no IWSG and less creativity in the world - and in my life. And WEP adds another dimension. Is that a theme?
Creativity is a fascinating thing. It grows exponentially when fed. Nom Nom Nom
So much is happening it's hard to keep up with everything. Congrats on the new books. That's a long time to have been blogging, but lots of fun. Looking forward to the concert review. I must join Instagram to see what's going on there.
Have a great November.
Good for you for taking some time off to write. I'm sure you are making your publisher very, very happy. Heh.
Lisa, you must be excited.
Diedre, wouldn't say I was a pro. We're a praise and worship band, so no name or video. I did post an audio of me playing on YouTube though.
Raimey, you should! And yes I do.
Thanks, Roland. The theme will be chosen from everyone's suggestions.
Glad to hear your creativity boundaries expanded. I had to smile at your comment on the Fantastic Creatures and Where To Find Them. Maybe I will see it as a plot helper ;)
Hi Alex - so glad you settled into your stride ... and we are all waiting with baited breath for your next offering. Enjoy this month and Thanksgiving ... and thanks for keeping us all on our toes through your post here and the IWSG in general - cheers Hilary
Congratulations on nine years of blogging, Alex! Your blog certainly has a wide and helpful reach! I'll be checking out DLP's holiday sale. Congrats to all the authors with new releases! They all sound good. I have to keep my focus on my current WIPs. I wish you success as you write in November ~ Can't wait to read whatever it is! Take care, my friend!
First, congratulations with your nine-year blog anniversary, Alex. That's huge! Good to know the Twitter Pitch party is only once a year now. Better get ready for that next one!
Enjoy your blogging break and focus on writing. Wishing you much inspiration, providing many usable words. :-)
As for me, I love being creative with words and hope to do so again later this month. No time for movies and no desire to think about the holidays (yet)...
Creativity is always searching for new outlets. That's why any creative person is usually creative in more than one field.
Thanks for the movie previews. I need to watch the second Fantastic Beasts. I loved the first.
congrats on nine years of sharing your creativity and blog kindness in the world. Enjoy your November and may the writing gods keep the fingers flying. As far as movies...holiday time kicks into gear. I need to see Bohemian Rhapsody, Fantastic Beasts and so much more. Cheers my friend - good health and good feasts. Enjoy
That's cool you're in a band.
Have both a great writing month and Thanksgiving, Alex! Congrats on nine blogging years!
Congrats on 9 years. I may have a theme to suggest. I'll have to ponder it.
Hi Alex,
Good for you! Hope your month off goes well for your writing!
Some great movies coming out. Definitely want to see the Grinch and Fantastic Beasts~
Congrats to the author's of the new releases.
Happy Thanksgiving to you, too! See you next month.
Congrats to all the authors on their new releases! Glad you’re still going strong after nine years. Good luck with all your writing and hope you have a very happy Thanksgiving!
Julie
No NaNo for me this year. I've got too many other things going on.
Congratulations on nine years of blogging. And to think I've been working on my story that entire time. Man, I feel old.
Good luck with your writing, see you in a little while
I never even thought about the genres in which I've branched out until I read your post. Congrats to those with featured releases!
Tonja, I am here to amuse!
Liz, please suggest one. Not many suggested so far.
Ken, sorry!
Thanks, everyone!
Hmmm. I've been looking forward to Overlord. I can pass on the boobs, but the rest sounds good.
Fantastic Beasts 2 will hopefully be better. With the talent in the cast, it should be, but then #1 had the same and it lost me.
PLEASE check back at my post. Located the missing photos, phew.
I think musically inclined people have certain advantages when it comes to poetry. I bet the stuff you written has been well received. I haven't listened to much Christian rock, but the stuff I have listened to sounded good. It made me acutely aware that I don't really listen (or comprehend) lyrics all that much. What matters to me is the music. That being established then, it's no surprise (to me) that I prefer just listening to classical music. It eschews lyrics altogether.
Creed looks good, and I'll go and see that. So does the Fantastic Beasts movie. I thought it was coming out this week, but I was one week off. Grinch? That's a maybe/not sure if I'll go.
I've never had the courage to write poetry. I'm sure the practice could only improve my fiction. Thanks for all that you do, Alex. I'm new to the IWSG this year and still wrapping my head around the who's and what's. You've invested a lot in this community, and I appreciate it.
Nine years of blogging is quite an accomplishment. A lot of people have dropped out, but I'm thrilled there are still so many terrific folks like you who are sticking with it.
It's very cool that you're playing in a band now. It's been a lot of years since I played with a group, (We called it a hootenanny!) but it was a lot of fun.
Have a terrific break, and a happy Thanksgiving. Happy writing!
I just followed IWSG on Instagram. I am sort of new to it. I have a hard time getting beyond Facebook, even though I really need to expand my social media awareness. Have a great month off!
Congrats on nine years of blogging:)
Another Rocky movie? Good grief.
Congratulations on 9 years blogging, Alex. I can beat that. Started in 2007 and it's been an up and down journey. Mainly ups! So many new book releases. How can we keep up? A lot of people are using their creativity!
Susan, good!
Michael, my wife doesn't pay much attention to lyrics either.
CV, appreciate you being a part of it.
Susan, we'll stick with it until the end.
Heather, thanks for following.
Denise, eleven years is a long time.
Creed 2 is definitely what I'm looking forward to most in cinemas this month. The first was so strong.
Congratulations on 9 years of blogging! I can't even remember how long I've been going, but it's probably similar. Crazy how the time has slipped on by... Hope you get lots written in November!
Thanks for the reminder about the IWSG post. I almost forgot. Okay. Well, I did forget. But I added to my last post. :)
I might watch Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. I can't say I was overly enthused about the first one. I preferred the Harry Potter stories. But it's worth another look. I think J.K. Rowling has some talent as a writer!
I saw the first Fantastic Beasts movie and wasn't thrilled with it so I hope this one is better and not so boring.
I liked Wreck it Ralph. I shall look forward to No2! 9 years ah? Where's that time gone?
I'm looking forward to the next Fantastic Beasts! And I keep meaning to ask you what type of rock music your band plays—more metal, classic, ??
I wrote with WEP a few years back, and I don't regret it. Fun writing prompts.
Alex! I am expanding my creativity to digital art programs and find that I am good at it. The learning curve took a week (of dedicated many hours) but it was still steep and I was frustrated here and there but it was oh so worth it!
Thanks for dropping by and commenting on my blog!
~Elizabeth
Congrats on 9 years! Have a good blog break Alex! Happy writing! Congrats on everyone's new releases! I would like to see the new Grinch! Take Care Alex! Keep on rockin!!
Many things to think about on your ultra creative blog Alex! I wonder if Dancing Lemur press ships to India. Well I guess I can always get an audio book.
Congratulations! - nine years is a significant amount of time. Lots to celebrate.
Have a great blog break and a productive writing month.
You really have branched out and continued to grow creatively. Bravo!
I still haven't seen Fantastic Beasts. I am a huge HP fan- so I am not sure what the hold up has been. I should see it before the second one comes out for sure. :)
9 years blogging- wow! Congrats. I think I will be at 8 years sometime this winter. Time flies!
~Jess
Congrats on 9 years of blogging! I already have tickets for Crimes of Grindelwald this Saturday, can't wait! The Grinch and The Nutcracker are also movies I'd like to go see. I hope the rest of your November goes well, Alex! Happy Thanksgiving!
Sherry, close enough!
Ray, I have no idea!
Lynda, Christian contemporary.
Kalpanaa, audio or eBook!
I am sticking with the original grinch thank you very much. Good luck with your new project!
It is amazing how quickly time passes when you are blogging. I have been blogging about the same amount of time. My blog has changed dramatically from humour to family travel log to travel blog. I guess that is where the creativity comes into play.
Congrats on your blogging anniversary, and good luck with your writing!
Overlord looks like its onto something with the lets go bust them up stakes, yeah its gotta be a winner. Congrats on the bloggerversary. You must be chuffed man.
I'll be taking my son to see the Grinch next week. I'd like a claymation one too! Good luck with the writing. Nine years. Wow!
This is such a fantastic post! It's jam-packed with so much bookish goodness! I so wanted to participate in the IWSG Instagram challenge. But alas, as most days lately, I'm so busy I totally forgot. Never an excuse; more an admission of omission. :) Good luck with everything and to everyone who entered the anthology and has a new release out in the wild "Good luck" and "Woot"!
Congrats on 9 years of blogging!
I think our blogs are the best online platforms... especially when you consider that Google+ is to be shut down next year. So who knows what other social platforms will disappear in the future?
Enjoy your November writing session!
Hi Alex, feeling bad that I missed the November IWSG, 7th November was Diwali, our biggest festival, I had guests throughout the week, I had lots of shopping to do and on Diwali we have our Lakshmi Puja at home and office, and there was so much to do that I never paid attention to the fact that it was the first Wednesday of the month. This is the first IWSG I have missed. And to top it all I didn't even know that my book had released on 5th November. And to make matter worse FedEx India sat on my package (author copies) for more than 10 days, the Bangalore warehouse had my books for 5 days. I had to make many calls to their customer support to get my books which I finally got on 9th evening.
Whew, it was one hectic week. Btw, I missed you all.
Creed II sounds like a winner! So does Fantastic Beasts. It's amazing how our creativity evolves if we let it. The senior center in my city offers an improv class and it's free. Gotta be 55 or older. I never thought I'd be able to do improv, but it's amazing and great for letting the muse out to play. The other senior citizens in the class are a hoot! Brain games to help us prevent dementia! Amazing!
We saw Grindlewald yesterday, and I'm struggling a little with it. It's a typical middle of a trilogy movie, but they laid a twist at the end that I can't quite swallow. Now, I know Jo wrote it and she knows the canon, but the numbers aren't working for me, so I'm wondering what I missed.
Back again to say Happy Thanksgiving!
We saw The Grinch. We may see Ralph. We'll see... :)
Hope your writing is going well, Alex. For once, I was stumped when it came time to write the IWSG post--sorry I missed it.
I'm not sure if my creativity has grown. Does making my very first Christmas wreath count?
I wasn't a fan of the Jim Carrey Grinch, so this should be interesting.
I hope you're right, Alex. Man, is he in top shape or what?
I didn't care for Jim Carrey's Grinch either, Alex. I still hold onto the cartoon version of Dr. Seuss' Grinch with Boris Karloff. I trust you are well. Thanks so much for all you do to assist your fellow writer. Happy Holidays, sir!
I just finished reading the screenplay for Fantastic Beasts!
