Justice League Movie Review
No idea what film the critics saw. The disparity between critical reviews and movie goers is around fifty percent, which is very suspect. My wife thinks Disney paid off the critics so they’d bash this DC film.
I thought it was great!
Justice League really captures the feel of a comic book. Whereas Marvel films feel like big budget productions, this feels like it was ripped from the pages of the comics. The Mother Boxes are part of the Justice League mythology, as is the villain Steppenwolf, which is obviously leading up to Darkseid.
Marvel has done better setting up the movies, but this film puts DC on the right track. It’s not perfect, but the special effects are great, the characters are spot-on, and it’s a heck of a lot of fun. There are moments which are touching and others where you will laugh out loud. (The Flash has the funniest moment in the movie.)
The team is brought together out of necessity more than they want to be together. This leads to some jabbing and poking, especially from Aquaman. (So, you dress up as a bat?)
Plus it’s under two hours, which is just perfect.
Highly recommended!

Anyone else see Justice League? Ready to geek out with any of those gifts? Looking forward to #IWSGPit next year? And what movies will you see in December?

I hope your family time was wonderful.
I am considering some geeky gifts, and the tardis rug would certainly hit the spot. Thanks.
Hi Alex welcome back. Loved the geek gifts.
Have a good week.
Yvonne.
Hi, Alex!
I get what you are saying about the gap between critical reviews and fan reviews of Justice League. I don't know what to think or who to trust anymore. The only criterion that really matters is whether or not you like it. I am not hard to please and I've got a feeling I will be joining those raving about Justice League.
My brother-in-law received a cool drone for his birthday and demonstrated its capabilities for us Thanksgiving day. That thing rises vertically to 100 feet in about two seconds and captures a 360 degree aerial view of the neighborhood - amazing!
Have a nice week, good buddy Alex!
I recently read a bad review about the Justice League which surprised me. I'll take your word, Alex, that it's good. Looking forward to seeing it.
Have a great week!!!
Congrats to those with new releases!
Looking forward to seeing what the question is for the IWSG post next week.
Hope you had a blessed Thanksgiving. Welcome back!
Agree totally on Justice League! I was quite flummoxed by the reviews too. Anyways, here the policy is always to go by word-of-mouth from friends/family rather than the reviews. Don't think film critics and I are on the same wavelength :)
Have a super week.
I like that Tardis rug. :)
I read terrible reviews of Justice League, too. Good to hear that it's much better than the critics say!
Hope you had a good holiday. The Shape of Water and Star Wars sounds good. I really want to see Wonder more though. Maybe over the holidays I'll treat myself.
Awesome that you have another pitch with agents coming.
I do want to see The Shape of Water - definitely looks interesting.
After seeing so many mentions of John Carpenter's movie THE THING during the Remakes Blogfest, I watched it again over the weekend. Fun!
Elephant's Child, it was!
Shady, just go see it an enjoy. A drone would be a really cool geek toy.
Cathrina, ignore the bad reviews!
Nila, they aren't on my wavelength, that's for sure.
Elizabeth, I don't know what the deal is with the critics.
Madeline, great film, isn't it?
I kind of want to see the new Jumanji but my wife thinks it looks pretty bad
Shameless Cash Grab...hah!
And glad to hear you enjoyed Justice League! It seems to be getting rarer for movies to be under two hours anymore, so it's cool to see this one goes against that trend...
Didn't see Justice League and might or might not when it comes to DVD. I agree about disparity between what I see and what critics tell me about a film, but often I'm on the road less taken when it comes to films.
AS far as the movies to come, I'll be seeing either what I've already recorded from TV or what is coming on that looks interesting. And whatever Netflix sends me from my list.
Lee
Tossing It Out
I'm sure it has been done, but do you think Disney would really bother paying off critics? Many critics just seem to have a hate on for DC because it is the in thing. Jumanji is a cash grab indeed.
I'm going to look into the IWSG Twitter Pitch Party process this time around. Sounds interesting and fun.
I love Justice League and Flash was hilarious even more so against Superman. Now I'm wondering with a possible Justice League 2 in the future, will they ever make a Teen Titans movies. If so, I can see Zendaya playing Star Fire.
I'd like to participate in the IWSGPitch in January but that'll mean a mad dash of completing and editing the only WIP I have that's nearly ready. Probably shouldn't rush it and wait for the next one. But I will be giving my support!
I love the R2D2 coffee press! If I didn't already have a coffee press, that would be the one I would get. Congrats to folks on their new releases.
I hope you had a great break. I plan to see the new Star Wars movie as soon as it is released. Great gift ideas! Congrats to all the authors!
I needed Thanksgiving this year. A good break from the day-to-day. Love those robes. I may have to break down and buy one!
Charles, your wife might be right...
Heather, two hours was perfect.
Pat, I think they just hate the director.
Lidy, you can do it! That scene with Flash and Superman was hilarious. I'd be all for a Teen Titans movie.
Lee, need to show off your geekness!
Welcome Back! I am looking forward to seeing Star Wars-The Last Jedi. The robes are rather cool, but now what color?
I did enjoy the Thanksgiving break and I hope you did as well!
I'm not a coffee person, but that coffeemaker is awesome! I'd want it just for a fun piece to display. The robes are also neat.
I really like that coffee press!
Hi Alex - glad you had a good time away. I doubt I'll see Justice League - but for future (DVD) know it'll be good ... nerd gifts ... that Tardis Rug looks fun to have around ... cheers Hilary
The gifts look fun! Not planning on seeing any movies in the near future but you never know! I might check out the twitter pitch event in January.
Ooh, that ugly sweater is really ugly. Looking forward to seeing Justice League movie. Have you watched The Punisher yet? I'm left hoping there is a season 2.
I agree with you on Justice League. I did like how powerful Superman came across. Him punching Steppenwolf by saying, "Is this guy still bothering you?" was kind of fun. I didn't like how he was clearly more powerful than Wonder Woman. That's a kind of sticking point with several DC blogs and is up to interpretation depending on how you look at it. WW and Superman are functionally the same strength as far as characters go. But it was a nice team up film. Darkseid is gonna be so much fun though. Can't wait.
My guy at work gave Justice a so-so. I put it on the back burner, but might move it back up. I enjoyed Pixar's Coco.
Guillermo's work is otherworldly but the previews looked odd. No doubt we'll hang with the Last Jedi (so I can talk at work).
December shall fly by. Enjoy it in an ugly sweater. I would if it would get cold enough. Cheers!
I loved Justice League. The Flash was so funny.
The Shape of Water will be excellent but I'm sure depressing in some way.
And who will slaughter the Gungans? :D
I love that coffee press...and the bathrobes:)
Have a productive day and pleasant evening, Alex.
I'm skipping Justice League until it comes out on disc. I'm just not willing to put out money to see that in the theaters when, other than you, the best I've heard about it is, "Well... It's better than Batman vs Superman."
I really like that R2-D2 coffee press.
Maybe I'll take two - one for me, one for Mini Alex.
Have a great week, Alex.
Want to see Justice League but haven't yet. Have the Twitter Pitch on my calendar.
Very behind with my movies - and my reading - so wary of adding anything. On writing front, I am aiming to finish the 4th draft of the WIP that I was locked into in October - pre-NaNoWriMo. That might inspire something for #IWSGPit = looking forward (with trepidation).
Congratulations to all the new books. Piper Morgan is adorable. A great gift for young readers.
The Geek gifts look like fun.
I probably won't see any movies in December.
The Twitter Pitch looks like fun, but I won't have anything ready. Too slow.
Have a super week.
Yay, so glad you enjoyed Justice League - a reviewer I usually agree with called it 'boring'. We almost saw it yesterday, but the showing was cancelled (we were already at the cinema), and the next showing was too late. So we came home again. Hopefully we'll try again next weekend. But I'm looking forward to it all the more now!
I wasn't that fond of Justice League. It was disappointing what they did with the Amazons, although I did like Cyborg (boo-yah was the best part of the movie). I'm really looking forward to The Last Jedi. Please just don't let them ruin Rey.
I'm hearing so many different things about Justice League. Although, I heard something good about the new Jumanji. We'll see...
Truedessa, glad to be back! Had a great week with family. And just don't get the red robe...
Joylene, I've watched a few episodes.
Michael, yes, technically they are the same strength. Although Superman is a little harder to kill. (Even though he died in the last film.) Darkseid is where it's going to get really good!
Joanne, we are finally cold enough!
Zoltan - funny!
Andrew, everyone I know has said it was great.
Robyn, thanks! Although he doesn't drink coffee either.
Roland, hope so!
Annalisa, go! Boring? How? It never stopped moving.
I do want to see Justice League, but I might have to wait for it on DVD as I can't talk anyone to go see it with me. I will likely see Star Wars: The Last Jedi at the movie theater, though.
I will definitely be going to see The Last Jedi and Swamp Thing, I mean the Shape of Water looks like fun, too :)
I also know the perfect person for that Tardis rug.
The Star Trek bath robes look great and I must catch Justice League. You're really getting into the Christmas trekkie spirit, hehe - I just couldn't resist. So with the Twitter Pitch around the corner, and manuscripts polishing... theres a lot of preparation.
Hope your Thanksgiving was peaceful, Alex. A Jumanji follow-up? Really? Shameless Cash Grab seems right on the nail :(
Almost saw Justice League this weekend but saw Three Billboards instead. It was superb.
I do want to see Justice League, but will likely pass on the others. I want a Tardis rug.
I love those geeky gifts!
My boys are getting excited about seeing the newest Star Wars film.
Gotta pass on the geek gifts, but you're tempting me with Justice League (I'm a sucker for humor). Definitely want to see the Star Wars movie, however, and thanks too for the heads-up about the Twitter Pitch party. I missed the last one but I should be ready for the next one in January.
I hope your Thanksgiving was restful and perfect, Alex.
Tonight at dinner my girls were debating whether or not they should see the Justice League. I wish I had read this first.
Cool gift ideas. Too bad that rug costs $47 to ship here.
Welcome back Alex. Quality time for Thanksgiving with the family is just fantastic. So much been said of Justice League and with such mixed reviews, it is best to see it for oneself
Hank
Cherie, just go by yourself.
Marcy, good!
Ian, yes it does.
Helena, hope you participate in the next one.
Rhonda, tell them to go. And that's a hefty shipping cost.
Hank, that's always the best answer.
Hi Alex, welcome back. Hope you had a wonderful time with your family.
I'm excited about IWSG Twitter Pitch party on 18th Jan. My manuscript will be ready by then.
Both Tara's and Stephanie's books look wonderful.
December will be the time when I will revise and polish my manuscript and maybe outline another book, so no movies in December, just writing.
I've heard varying reviews for JL. But I think that a good length and something to just have fun with. Love those geek gifts! I have all my shopping done. Have a terrific week! :)
Glad to hear you enjoyed Justice League. That's unethical if Disney paid off reviewers to write poor reviews for it! Thanks for the reminder about the Twitter Pitch and the reminder that I need to finish reading and reviewing Tara's book, Disposal. So much to do and so little time!
I have a question I want to confirm about IWSGPitch. Considering how long Twitter tests doubling its characters from 140 to 280. If they make the change permanent by the next pitch party, do we still limit our pitches to 140 characters?
I got the HH a Cubs' ugly sweater year before last.
Hope your day was productive and your evening is pleasant.
I too thought the Justice League movie was pretty good. So glad DC got this right.
Those are some really cool geek gifts. My husband would love the coffee press.
Looking forward to the new Star Wars movie.
Hoping to see Justice League in the near future. I finally saw Wonderwoman this weekend. A very different story, I was quite surprised at the WWI setting. Not what I expected at all. I enjoyed it though. The Shape of Water sounds interesting. I bought a Dr. Who T shirt for one of the guys at the bowling alley who is obsessed about the show. It shows the Tardis settling in snow in London.
I'm looking forward to seeing the Justice League movie. Glad to hear it had good moments!
I love geek gifts. Just saw the R2-D2 coffee press yesterday and was sad that we already have a coffee press and really couldn't use a second one.
Rachna, glad you will be able to pitch that day!
Sherry, you said it!
Lidy, you can make it as long as Twitter allows!
Sandra, that's funny! Evening rocked - saw a concert!
Toi, glad you enjoyed it.
Jo, the setting in Wonder Woman was perfect.
Lynda, it could be a backup!
I am absolutely flabbergasted by all the Star Wars merchandise available these days. I would have said the R2-D2 coffee press was cool, if I hadn't already seen this week an R2-D2 USB hub, R2-D2 AC power bar, R2-D2 egg cup, R2-D2 pepper grinder, R2-D2 bra (I don't know if that one was officially licensed), R2-D2 room humidifier (that one was)...
When JL ended, I asked the same question you did, Alex. I enjoyed it. I wondered at all the scenes from the trailers that were not included. Being forced to cut a 3 hour movie down to 2 by the studio made a rushed, jarring tone to it. But Joss Whedon did a fine job I think. We will never know what the movie would have looked like totally done by Zack Snyder. :-(
My niece would love that rug since she loves Dr. Who. I wouldn't mind the bathrobe in blue even though I am not into science. I have to see The Justice league still...and Wonder Woman! I love that actress who can truly kick butt. I wonder what they will do with Leia since Carrie Fisher died. Now, as for the Ewoks, I totally agree with you and they may taste good on the BBQ. They might be a bit gamey but I bet they taste quite good with salt and pepper.
I saw Justice League over the weekend with the family and we all loved it. I never read pro reviews because I don't trust them- I wait for thumb's up or down from peeps like you- always more reliable.
I have no interest in watching Justice League but I’m glad to hear you had fun with it. I’m sure it will delight many fans.
On the other hand I was ready to hate Jumanji since the first movie is near perfect. But then I’m hearing the early reactions are surprisingly positive. I might catch it
Welcome back Alex! Thanks for the honest review for Justice League! Love the Geek gifts! LOL! Congrats to everyone on their new releases! I really want to see Jumanji! Looks like fun! I'll probably wait till I can see it for free! LOL! Take Care!
Hope you had a lovely Thanksgiving! I'm hoping to see Justice League this coming week. I've only heard good things. And I saw one or two things on those geek presents ideas which would work great for a couple peeps on my list. Thanks for the hints!
I don't see that many movies theaters are very expensive these days, but love to come and see what you put. Great job my friend. Early to bed for me had a root canal done and I feel like I've been hit in the face with a sledge hammer! GOODNIGHT!
There seem to be a lot of shameless cash grab films. If someone owns a name or franchise that's made money in the past they can't seem to resist trying to squeeze out a bit more. I suppose it's easier than coming up with something new which is actually worth watching.
Those robes are awesome! I've heard mixed reviews from people about Justice League. One person told me he thought it was because if people don't know the comics they don't get certain aspects. What do you think about that theory?
Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle looks good to me. I think they chose the right actors and that might be key.
Hi Alex,
My sister saw Justice League and really enjoyed it.
CD, the bra one is funny!
Roland, that's probably a good thing. I'm sure there will be an extended version on DVD.
Birgit, they probably are gamey.
Elizabeth, glad you enjoyed it!
Maurice, that is surprising all right. Not a DC fan?
Tonja, you're welcome.
Marie, I've had those days...
Patsy, sadly that's true.
Holly, it was truer to the comic books and had the feel of a comic book rather than the grandness of just a big budget super hero film. Maybe that's it?
Sandra, good!
My brother would love that Star Trek bath robe. Looking forward to seeing the Justice League. I never trust the expert reviews. I never seem to agree with the masses. I like a movie and then the critics hate it. I think as long as you enjoyed it. What they think doesn't matter.
I can totally see Momoa deadpanning that line! :) Reminds me of some of his lines on Stargate :)
JL was good. Even my daughter thought it was great and she hadn't even wanted to see the movie because of all the reviews. There's still some areas where the directors could learn from the Marvel films, but overall I was pleased with it.
Going to see Justice League next weekend with my daughter-can't wait.
Then Star Wars at Christmas-can't wait.
I'm all atwitter.
Unless I'm on Facebook.
Whatever.
Uh-oh, I guess it must be official. I think ALL of your "geeky" gift ideas are awesome, so I must be (gulp) a geek. (Not bad enough I was already a nerd...)
I sure hope that rumor about Rey going to the dark side and killing a village of Ewoks is wrong! No, no, no...
We haven't seen Justice League yet, but I'm sure we will.
I wanted to see Justice League, but with hubby dead set against going to Canada and the fact he just bought a surround sound system, I didn't even ask if he wanted to go (and I didn't want to go by myself.) At least I know it should look good and sound good at home.
All of my friends who have seen Justice League loved it. Glad to hear you enjoyed it too. I was surprised to see a Jumanji movie- looks very different from the one that was out years ago!
~Jess
Once Superman came into it, there was no fight. "Oh, is this guy still bothering you?"
The cgi bad guy was boring. Don't get me started on the costumes for the girls. Horrible job. Not even anywhere near as good as the ones in Wonder Woman.
Whilst comic book lovers agree that the movie was closer to the comic, for this movie goer, the writers missed the boat. Also, rather than being focused on the two hour mark, I wish they would have kept those scenes in. And give us a better bad guy. That CGI was a mess and didn't look real, at all.
For me, this was not a winner.
Hi Alex, I know just the person for that R2-D2 coffee press, not so sure about the bath robe or the Christmas jumper – I might give those a miss.
I’m looking forward to The Shape of Water, just hope it lives up to the hype.
Congrats to Steph and Tara!
What movie did you see?
Murees, exactly!
Jemi, he was awesome on Stargate: Atlantis.
Ken, that's why it's good Whedon stepped in to finish the film.
Al - funny!
Susan, geek girls rock.
Ivy, sorry you didn't enjoy it.
Sandra, we saw Coco. Great film!
Well, Alex, the Tardis people owe you a commission. I just bought a rug for one of the kids. What a great gift idea! So unique. He wanted a box set of all the DVDs, this was much more reasonable haha.
Have a beachy week!
Elsie
SCORE! The Serenity sweater will check off most of my shopping list. Thank you Santa Alex.
Good to see another fan enjoying JL. I don't think there was any payoff, but the discrepancy between critics' reviews and fans' reviews is pretty major. *shrug* Definitely looking forward to Star Wars in a few weeks.
If Disney was paying off reviewers to tank other comic movies, wouldn't Deadpool and Logan have reviewed poorly?
Regardless, I'll see Justice League when it hits HBO Go. Ezra Miller looks like such a cute Flash.
Love those bath robes!
Great geek gifts! I know a person or two who might like these items. Appreciate your time in gathering all this info for us.
Justice League highly recommended, huh? You're not the only one who's said this. I do seriously wonder why I just automatically hear that all of these DC movies are garbage now, despite some of them being pretty good.
And yes, strong pass on Jumanji. Are people tired of Kevin Hart yet? No? Not quite? Alright, maybe next year...
Elsie, too cool!
Leslie, you're welcome.
Mason, the discrepancy is very suspect.
John, my wife thinks they just have it in for DC and Snyder.
I'm intrigued by The Shape of Water but unfamiliar with it.
Have a jolly day:)
I thought Justice League was a decent move, but I didn't love it. One review I read pointed out the underwater scene with Aquaman was hard on the eyes and they hoped entire movie featuring Aquaman would have a better visual appeal to it. And The Flash was definitely the best part :)
Heading out to see The Orient Express.
Interesting that critics differed so much from fans. Very suspicious.
Brandon and Bryan, it's very suspect that they mostly get bashed.
Sandra, I'm sure it will have the same vibe as Pan's Labyrinth. And enjoy Orient Express!
Mark, very suspicious!
Welcome back, Alex! I hope that you had a nice Thanksgiving with your family and friends! Congratulations to the authors of the new releases. I love that R2-D2 coffee press ~ LOL! We just arrived and setup in Surprise, Arizona, so I haven't even looked into where the movie theaters are, although I'm sure there are some here. I'm looking forward to co-hosting tomorrow ~ before and after hiking in the White Tank Mountains ~ Just a four mile beginning desert hike. Take care!
You come up with the coolest geek gifts.ialso love your movie reviews. Really looking towards seeing “The shape of Water’.
Welcome back, Alex! I hope that you had a lovely Thanksgiving with your family and friends! Congratulations to the authors releasing new books! I've just arrived in and gotten setup in Surprise, Arizona. I'm looking forward to co-hosting tomorrow ~ before and after a four mile beginner's hike in the White Tank Mountains. I'm finally clear to exercise after my eye surgery. Take care, my friend!
Oops! I keep thinking Blogger didn't post my comment ~ duh! Now I see "comment moderation." Sorry about that. Maybe one or two went through yesterday, too, and it was my mistake and not my computer!
Regarding The Justice League I think many people have forgotten how to go to the movies, leave their lives at the door, and have a good time escaping the real world. We haven't seen it but will.
Cool bath robes! Just don't get the red one.
I've got to get that rug!
Loved the original Jumangi. They should have given the new one a completely different title, but hey, like you said it's a Cash Grab. But we'll see it anyway knowing the original Jumangi is a classic.

Alex are you monitoring comments again?
I'd like to see that new Jumanji movie although I shall miss Robin Williams in it for sure. I just don't understand why he left us. What a good man & great actor/comedian he was. Anyway today is the day I try to get my Christmas spirit back. Yes, XmasDolly has lost her Christmas Spirit & not sure where to find it. It's a long story, but wish me luck because it's so important to me. I'd also like to see The Last Jedit too. Some say it's a really bad movie... hmmmm??? Anyway, thought I'd stop by & wish you a pleasant day. Oh and to top things off I wrote a book & I started typing it on a new blog I started and I can't find it :( Forgot the name of it can't find it no where, but I'm still looking. Push come to shove I guess I'll start all over again in typing it. :( I think it's a good book and I know it will help others who are going through the same thing. It's about my first marriage. It was extremely abusive and how I crawled out of it. Yay ME!!! MERRY CHRISTMAS MY FRIEND! HUGS
Glad you enjoyed your family. We stayed at home and I cooked horribly. I guess I wasn't into it. Oh well, there's always Xmas.
I'm glad you told me about Justice League. I haven't been a fan of the Ben Affleck Batman so it's hard to get excited about that movie.
I want that Dr. Who Rug badly!
Congrats to Tara & Stephanie on their releases. Great stuff there.
Of course, I'm dying to watch Star Wars, but I hadn't heard of The Shape of Water. I'm going to search for the trailer now.
Thanks!
Mina
I’m really looking forward to seeing The Last Jedi on the 22nd. Until then, I’ll have to ignore all reviews!
Wow, congratulations on IWSG's becoming a Writer’s Digest Top 101 site. Well done!
PS: I've been reading a lot about The Shape of Water. I loved Toro's earlier film, Pan's Labyrinth! Thanks for these updates.
I'm such a bad blog friend. Sorry for the late responses.
So glad you enjoyed Justice League. I want to catch up on these films. I feel like I haven't given DC enough of a chance so I will have to work on that this winter.
Love that Serenity sweater!
Thanks for asking me to join you for the Remakes Blogfest! That was lots of fun.

When you are watching movies inside movie theatres, you can also feel the music effects and will be very amazed by a certain movie's surround sound system. cinema movies online
