Take it away, Brandon and Bryan!
Hey all, we're Brandon and Bryan from A Beer for the Shower, and as co-authors of multiple novels that have been praised by people that are not our parents, we wanted to share some of our favorite writing tips for you today.
Forget what you heard about writing with your heart and crafting what you love. That's clearly nonsense. Here's what you really need to do to reach success as a writer.
1. Don't be afraid to give up
Did you know that success means hard work? Well, trying is hard. Really hard. So if your novel doesn't sell on the first try, you should probably give up and take on something more meaningful like crochet, or start a cat collection. Bryan's currently up to 8!
Doesn't this little glimpse of paradise look better than "trying"?
2. Criticism is for the weak
If someone tells you something like, "Your novel is good but it needs work in a few spots" what they're really saying is "I hate you and I spit in your face." Also, they're probably just jealous of your infallible talent. Rather than humbly accept their criticism and better your writing skills, you should probably hire street thugs to beat them into a coma. It's only fair for them having the downright audacity to offer you their honest criticism.
3. Write to fads
Writing a truly unique story that comes from the heart is fun and all, but it's no guarantee that your book will sell. But you know what will sell? Fads. Just find whatever's popular now, write a complete ripoff with one or two minor changes, and reap in the sweet, sweet benefits of selling out!
Cheers and stay classy, guys,
Bryan and Brandon
"I hate it when authors come to schools and tell the kids write from your heart. I don't think I've ever written a single word from my heart. I write to entertain the audience." - R.L. Stein, literary genius

CassaFire’s 99 Cents Promotion Results
Today, February 10, is the last day to grab my second book, CassaFire, for 99 cents on Amazon.
The sale started on February 4 and my publisher ran several ads.
The results?
Nancy Thompson caught it late Friday night while it was still rising the charts at #194! (That’s #194 out of ALL the books on Amazon!)
I caught it the following morning at #216:
I was also on several top 100 authors lists:
(Ahead of some dude name Asimov but behind some hack named Heinlein – the nerve!)
I didn’t catch it at its peak, but it was number 1, 2, or 3 in many categories, including Space Opera, and in the top ten for Science Fiction. CassaFire’s rise also bumped up sales of the other two, CassaStar and CassaStorm, placing them on several top 100 lists.
I was blown away!!!
Huge thanks to the hundreds who posted about it, sent out Tweets, mentioned it on Google+, and commented on Facebook. (I’m not even on Facebook – that is too wild!)
Mick from EBook Bargains UK caught the ad on BookBub, and since he’d seen my comments on Anne R. Allen’s blog many times, he grabbed it and added it to nine of their country listings as well. Thanks, Mick!
Once again, my heartfelt thanks. I am blessed to be a part of such an awesome community of writers and bloggers.
Final day Tweets:
“Top Gun Meets Battlestar Galactica” Alex J. Cavanaugh’s CassaFire on sale .99 http://tinyurl.com/qaz7kxr #scifi #99cents
Reminiscent of the action-driven stories of Robert A. Heinlein's early fiction - Library Journal. CassaFire only .99 http://tinyurl.com/qaz7kxr
Think Brandon and Bryan’s advice rocks? Ready to take up a cat collection? (Be sure to download their new book!) Feeling anti-Valentine’s? Enjoy last week’s IWSG? And anyone else experience great success with a book at a discounted price?
Working on my manuscript this week, so no Wednesday post. But the Ninja will be lurking…
WOW FIRST AGAIN,
ReplyDeleteA lot to take in today, hope the 2000 giveaway is going well.
Have a good time on Wednesday with your manuscript.
Yvonne.
So glad the sale has been going so well. Shouting out about it on my blog today. Hope you get lots of writing done this week. I'm off today and hoping to get some done too.
ReplyDeleteBeer guys: You had me at it's nonsense to write from the heart :)
ReplyDeleteYou guys are like Tony Robbins to me... only I'm not sure who's Robin and who's Tony?
A-CAV, congrats on making so many lists - and rocking them at the same time.
That is awesome news, but you know what, you little Ninja, (grabs and squeezes his cute cheeks *the ones next to his nose*) you bloody well deserve it!
You are such a supporter of the community, it's only proper that the community stands to hook a brother up!
PS... I hope you're still working on your dance moves :)
Love the boys from Beer for the Shower:) And Valentines day isn't big on my list of priorities this year but a box of leftover chocolates in front of the tv sounds good.
ReplyDeleteI am so impressed with your sales, Alex. You deserve it. And #194... so awesome!
ReplyDeleteWow #194 congratulations! I bought my copy this week. Plus I posted and scheduled out your final tweets.
ReplyDeleteI'll pass on the cat collection. :) I enjoyed the funny post.
ReplyDeleteAlex, Congrats on your success! Very cool. I tweeted for you.
Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteI hope your publisher is impressed too.
This shows the importance of a great community like the awsome Ninja Army.
I could not resist and downloaded a copy of "Empirical Evidence".
I like to add that it is also free on other Amazon sites:
Empirical Evidence for free at Amazon DE
Empirical Evidence for free at Amazon UK
Congrats, Alex! Excellent Amazon rankings!
ReplyDeleteI am loving the style of Brandon and Bryan LOL!
Congrats to Brandon and Bryan. They crack me up.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you've been busy, Alex. Congrats on the surge. You deserve it.
Congratulations Alex - pleased your sales are doing well. You deserve it.
ReplyDeleteThe problem is that you can't have success if you give up, and I like writing from my heart. I'm a sure loser, but fads come and go.
That's another one of my problems - I'm not good at taking advice, but deep down I know B&B are right!
Congrats on the sales, Alex!
ReplyDeleteAWESOME Rising on the charts!!!
ReplyDeleteAnd now we know why the boys are so successful!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to you and CassaFire, and to Bryan and Brandon! Happy Monday!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on #194! Excellent result :)
ReplyDeleteSuzanne @ Suzannes Tribe

Excellent, Alex! Well done!
ReplyDeleteAnd good luck working on your ms this week.
Hahaha, love this! I had my Monday morning giggle. Write to entertain. Exactly. Great post Bryan and Brandon! Hahahaha. Glad you're working on a story Alex. Cannot wait to hear more about it.
ReplyDeleteI'm working on mine too. YaY for the chance to entertain the masses. COOL!
Yes, I do think Brandon and Bryan's advice rocks! I plan on implementing it starting today. No time like the present. :) Happy Monday!
ReplyDeleteNatalie, thank you! Hope we both get a lot done this week.
ReplyDeleteMark, thanks, and bring it on - I'll be ready!
Annalisa, thank you, and it blew my mind.
Rhonda, big thanks!!
Edi, I will talk with them today. Glad you snagged their book.
Robyn, that's all I want to do!
Thank you, everyone!!
Way to go, Alex! And while the idea of just quitting and taking up another hobby was (probably) tongue-in-cheek, sometimes it's not a bad idea to step away for a short time and recharge the writing batteries.
ReplyDelete#194 is simply amazing. Congratulations again! If anything says "keep writing books," this is surely it.
ReplyDeleteAnd thanks for having us! It was a lot fun. I'm kinda eager to see if anyone takes our advice literally. You know there's always "that guy" on a sarcastic blog posting who just doesn't quite get the sarcasm...
Some days I feel like I am collecting cats.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the huge success of your book!
Wow, great job with the Amazon sales and rankings. You totally rocked that promotion. That is some hilarious advice from the Beer Dudes. I need to write a book that make people puke money at me :) Good luck with the writing.
ReplyDeleteIn completely unrelated news, I'm currently writing a book called CassaSpace...
ReplyDeleteThat is awesome how you flew up the charts so much. Amazing indeed.
ReplyDeleteAnd hmmm nope, 2 cats are my limit, no cat collection here haha
You ARE a success for sure. Climbing the charts for goodness sake. That is awesome.
ReplyDeleteMy sister has 10 cats. I just have two--outside. Thank you very much. :)
You had me at beer. And a shower? LOL
ReplyDeleteI'm so excited for your success with the Cassa series! Can't remember where I heard about this weekend, but I knew. WOOT!
Bryan and Brandon always tell it like it is. Love them!
ReplyDeleteAn interesting take on writing advice indeed!
ReplyDeleteYes, unfortunately Brandon and Bryan are right about what they say about fasd.
ReplyDeleteLisa, step away, but stop short of eight cats, right?
ReplyDeleteBrandon and Bryan, thanks, and happy to host you! We'll smack down anyone who doesn't get the humor.
Tony, that made me laugh!
Teresa, thanks, and that's a lot of cats...
Sheri, thanks! It was probably one of my excited tweets.
I thought it was only crazy cat ladies, not guys. I like their advice, I gave up. I also downloaded their book.
ReplyDeleteDelighted about your success with Cassa Fire Alex, how thrilling.
Wow, congrats on such an awesome result! :) Glad the sale went well!
ReplyDelete194!!!!! Oh wow, that's AMAZING!! Congrats Alex!
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome, Alex! Congratulations! Thanks for the laugh from Bryan and Brandon too. Hehehe! That is the way fans react. Totally.
ReplyDeleteCongrats Alex, that's a massive achievement!!!!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on sales, Alex. And that is advice is, um,(cough)...amazing! Actually, it is hilarious. What time does the humane society open?
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the incredible numbers. What lofty company you keep on the charts. I'm pumped for Valentine's Day because we're visiting my daughter in Boston.
ReplyDeleteThat is spectacular Alex!!! WTG!!
ReplyDeleteAnd that writing advice is too funny!
Congratulations Alex!! You deserve it. Great news!!
ReplyDeleteBrandon and Bryan--you crack me up. I don't waste time on street thugs. I just sic my dogs on them, lol! Bryan, gotcha beat on the cats.
ReplyDeleteCongrats Alex. How exciting to see those sort of stats.
Sia McKye Over Coffee
Congrats on the high ranking!
ReplyDeleteEmpirical will get a download from Spain today or tomorrow!
Congrats on your sales success, can't imagine a more deserving author. Yay!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on such great sales, Alex! And a Beer for the Shower is a fun book title!
ReplyDeleteWow. Way to go, Alex!
ReplyDeleteJo, thank you!
ReplyDeleteSusan, I believe they open at eight.
Susan, you're going to have a great time.
Karen, wow! Passed around Facebook and I'm not even on that site.
Sia, I've seen a picture of your cats - you do have him beat.
Thanks, everyone!!!!
Congrats on your sales! Starting a cat collection sounds like fun, I already have one, so it shouldn't be too hard.
ReplyDeleteHello, Lurker.
ReplyDelete:)
Great advice from Mr. Brandon and Mr. Byran. I don't think they're far off.
I'm so glad that you went viral!
Wait, what?
Heather
Just tweeted.
ReplyDeleteCongrats, Alex. You're doing great!
Thanks for the writing tips guys, I now know where I've been going wrong! Congrats on those Amazon Stats, Alex.
ReplyDeleteDid that woman rip her face right off?
ReplyDeleteTHAT is the kind of reaction a writer can only dream of. Fad writing for me!
AWESOME!! Way to move up the ranks! Woot woot.
ReplyDeleteThose beer drinking showerers are some funny guys. Best advice I've gotten in a long time. I think I shall take their advice and go buy me another cat...or maybe just nab one from the neighborhood.
I'll keep in mind all that wonderful advice.
ReplyDeleteGreat CassaFire has done so well on Amazon!
I can't wait for you to see what is happening at the cave. I've laughed so much.
I like free, Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI love that Grumpy cat is in the can collection!
*CAT*
ReplyDeleteYeah! I'm glad we helped push you to the top, Alex. I loved what Brandon and Bryan had to say about writing, particular that fad part. Too funny!
ReplyDeleteNo cat collection for me, but I did enjoy Brandon and Bryan's advice.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the uptick in book rankings.

Huge congrats on your Cassa series!
ReplyDeleteGot a nice chuckle from Brandon and Bryan.
Wahoo! Congrats Alex. That is amazing!
ReplyDeleteMy goodness Bryan and Brandon are a hoot.
I'm so happy for your continued success Alex!
ReplyDeleteI love Brandon and Bryan to pieces! Their advice is always spot on. Now, I'm off to start my cat collection...ha ha.
Laura, get two and soon you'll be on your way.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Juliana!
Briane, yes she did. Be even better if it melted.
Al, next Monday has me worried...
Thanks, everyone!!
I'm working hard on my cat collection. Great post, Brandon and Bryan!
ReplyDeleteCongrats, Alex! That's awesome how well the sale went!
Rip off what's selling - Harry Potter meets Twilight... how about Harry Potter meets The Walking Dead???? That has Bestseller written all over it. Who doesn't want to read about magic and zombies??? I am scrapping my current project and getting to work right away on this fabulous "new" idea!!! Thanks for the advice guys!
ReplyDeleteUseful tips but no, no cat collection for me. Unless you have a big yard, that's a lot of catboxes. (or cages to clean)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the fantastic stats! Nice to know you're back to writing another novel. You know you like it.
Frickin awesome job, Alex on racing up those charts. Keep up the good work and am glad to see others are getting super excited about your writing. *Throws Confetti !!!
ReplyDeleteCongrats to A Beer For The Shower! Loved your funtastic tips! Alex, I'm so excited that your sales went through the roof!
ReplyDeleteJulie
A Beer for the Shower - hilarious! Great name, brilliant advice! And congrats on the CassaFire sales! I've been off the blogosphere for a while so missed all the promotion. Off now to check it out.
ReplyDeleteYay for charting at #1!
ReplyDeleteLoved Brandon and Bryan's post. I'm off to check out their blog.
Congrats on the sales rankings! That cartoon was truly priceless.
ReplyDelete194?!?!?!!?!
ReplyDeleteALEX... that is crazzzzzzy awesome... you've got to be freaking. What a surreal life you lead. Wow. And this from a guy who wasn't sure he even wanted to write... it's pretty astonishing. And yet strangely not...
Okay. B and B are hilarious. I absolutely LOVE their posts. They honestly are the best thing since I discovered Nutella. (Which I won't let myself eat anymore, lol... so they'll have to do.)
Congrats again, Alex!
That's some...they gave very interesting advice. Rip-offs do sell sometimes but the consequences of getting caught sometimes...no thanks. Fun post though and I'm getting the free e-book. Can add it to the free e-book reading challenge I'm doing this year. Will check out anti-valentine giveaway by Robyn. You're welcome Alex, I was glad to help with IWSG. Just 18 away from 2000 followers Alex, amazing. Congrats on making the top 300 for CassaFire on Amazon. That is beyond amaze balls. Good eye Nancy.
ReplyDeleteAlso thanks for checking out my post on the Moonless blogfest and I'm glad you enjoyed it. Have a great day Alex.
Worried?!?!? Never fear, Ninja friend. Remember you said you trusted the dragon.
ReplyDeleteCongrats for being 194!!! That is great! Love the beer guys. I think I could write from the heart, make cheap money and be into the fad with an Anti Valentine feeling. I would write a romance with a vampire whom I met on Valentine's-first and last time as he literally rips my heart out sucks me dry and I then become a travelling Zombie salesman who devours all the people who actually open the door for me:)
ReplyDeleteI don't write from my heart; I write -with- my heart. There's no other way to make the pain authentic, and that's what it's all about, right?
ReplyDeleteAwesome for Cassa!
Congratulations, Alex!
ReplyDeleteGreat advice from Brandon and Bryan...I'll have to check out their blog. :)
Good luck with the manuscript, Alex!
Robin, make it happen!
ReplyDeleteMorgan, surreal really describes it. Never imagined I would duel it out with Lord Baldernot either.
Sheena-kay, your post was hilarious.
Al, I trust you!
Birgit, I think you need to write that.
Thanks, everyone! It was a wild weekend.
Congratulations on your sales!
ReplyDeleteI worked with a self-professed crazy cat lady. Besides all the cats in her house, she also had a tent set up in her backyard for feral cats to get food and take shelter from the rain and snow.
Love me those beer guys. Gotta grab their book.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the extreme success of your trilogy! It's amazing to watch a friend do so well, and do it with gratitude and class. You rock.

ReplyDelete216 is great! Congrats! Hope it paves the way to sell the other two books in the days and weeks ahead.
ReplyDeleteLove Brandon and Bryan's tips. It goes some way to explaining why I am a mad cat lady.
ReplyDeleteAnd congratulations. Big congratulations.
Congratulations on your book sales, Alex! That is awesome!
ReplyDeleteYou're awesome for so many reasons. One of those is that you promoted my giveaway. Thanks so much, Alex.
ReplyDeleteAnd nobody makes me laugh like the beer guys.
Congratulations on your sales. You're just starting to soar to new galaxies.
Love ya, Alex.
xoRobyn
Love the writing tips from ABFTS, and congrats on your book's rank!

Carrie-Anne, that's cat dedication.
ReplyDeleteKitty, what would Charlie and Gumtree say to all that competition though?
Fran, thanks!!
Stephen, they all were doing well.
Robyn, you're welcome. I still need to enter.
Thanks everyone!!
I'm super excited for you, Alex. I helped promote it today and then was like, wait a minute…I forgot to buy it. Just took care of that over at Amazon. Bad, Elsie, bad!!
ReplyDeleteAs usual, I enjoyed the Beer Boys and their unique humor. That was humor right, Bryan? I'm not supposed to make my next book about witches, am I? aaahhh

Still laughing here. Thanks Brandon and Byron! Perhaps one more tip. Don't take yourself too seriously.
ReplyDeleteHey Alex, those beer guys sound ultra-cool!
ReplyDeleteAnd your Amazon ranking is AMAZING! Yours is a well-deserved success. Enjoy! And to think you didn't plan on becoming a writer? Well, the Man Above had something else in mind...
Congrats on the #194 - that is HUGE!!!! :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your Amazon ranking. And my Stetson's off to Brandon and Bryan!
ReplyDeleteThat was awesome! I need me more Brandon and Bryan. Dudes after my own heart.
ReplyDeleteAnd I did Tweet about today being the last day to get CassaFire at 99 cents. Congrats on all that success! You deserve it.
Yahoo! Those ranking are amazing.
ReplyDeleteI shall remember Brandon and Bryan's advice whenever I feel like doing exactly what they suggest...and then hopefully I won't actually do it.
Huge congrats! That is wonderful news for sure.
ReplyDeleteBrandon and Bryan are hilarious and yes, I am anti Valentine's Day. ;)
Ha! Love Bryan and Brandon's advice. I'll remember it if ever I go to a school to speak as an author...hey, wait I'm a teacher. I can tell my students tomorrow. :) CONGRATS TO YOU! Christy
ReplyDeleteA big congrats, Alex!!!
ReplyDeleteYou deserve the best!!
And great writing advice. I think I might give up now ;)

ReplyDeleteElsie, thank you, big time!!
ReplyDeleteMichelle, yes He did.
Thanks, Jay!
Christy, won't your students be in for a surprise.
Thanks everyone!!
Lurk away! Brandon and Bryan's post was cool!
ReplyDeleteLove the beer guys' advice. And how R.L. Stein does NOT write from the heart.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations big time on your bestseller ranking! That really is amazing and wonderful for you and well deserved. I already have a hard copy and of course am looking forward to reading it.
Yay. Those are fantastic Amazon numbers!
ReplyDeleteLol @ the writing advice. ;)
Alex, you're so awesome! Congratulations on all those high rankings! You give us other writers something to aspire to :)
ReplyDeleteFantastic rankings, Alex! Congratulations ;)
ReplyDeleteFunny and awesome tips form Brandon and Bryan lol
I'm always feeling anti-valentine's day. It's just not my thing. Some guys probably think my hubby is lucky for that reason. LOL
ReplyDeleteHilarious advice from the guys, and awesome results on your sale! That's huge!
ReplyDeleteI have two things to be grateful for today: my email is working and someone has quoted Stein. He is my all time favorite writing coach.
ReplyDeleteThat's awesome that your book sales are doing well on Amazon!
ReplyDeleteI might take a peek at the anti-Valentine thing. Did someone say chocolate?
Huge congrats on your awesome success... woohoo.
ReplyDeleteHelena, thank you.
ReplyDeletePatricia, I would!
Thanks, ladies!!
I must be honest, the Beer guys have confirmed most of my suspicions about writing. So, thanks.
ReplyDeleteAnd congrats on CassaFire climbing the charts!
Brandon and Bryan's advice is hilarious!!! My cat collection is dismally small, but we have a small dog now too . . . so he kind of counts. :)
ReplyDeleteAlex - you rock!!! Congrats on your success!!! Hope your writing week is blessed!
Yeah! The sale sounds awesome! So glad it is going so well. I am one of the few people out there without an ereader, but I have shared with lots of people hoping to help the books fly off the virtual shelves. :) Wishing you the best of luck!
ReplyDelete~Jess
No writing from the heart - got it. I normally write from my fingers on the keyboard anyway. Funny good advice guys.
ReplyDeleteHysterical list from Brandon and Brian! (Although starting a cat collection has a strange appeal.)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the sale, Alex! I hope copies fly away into people's hands. Super congrats on all the ranking love! :)
congrats, alex! nancy is so good at staying on top of the amazon stuff!
ReplyDeleteWay to go on CassaFire! Congratulations on those listings Alex!
ReplyDeleteAs for writing advice, I'm going off to follow it right now. :)
What an awesome result for CassaFire! Congrats, Alex.
ReplyDeleteA lot of great info! The Beer Guys are always funny. I'm not anti Valentines Day. I think it is too commercialized though. I am against turning into that crazy cat lady and my Chihuahua is scared of them! Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteJess, and I appreciate that.
ReplyDeleteFaraway - funny!
Thanks, everyone!
Alex - congrats on those top #100 lists! That rocks. I nabbed myself a copy. :) Now if I could just find the time to read it!
ReplyDeleteYeah, we got two cats. Just dropped my muffin - top down - and it got covered in little hairs. Yee flippin' ha. Hate these two buggers. When they're gone I will NEVER get another. Give up or not, there will never be an army of cats in this household!
Just popping in to say, Mark my words: CAN BEER. Glass bottles are too dangerous!
ReplyDeleteYou rock, Alex. Congrats on the huge sales! Doesn't surprise me, my Captain, sir.
Alex-- I love these "writing" tips. They are wonderful. I needed a little cheer today. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteWow, great results on the sale. CONGRATS!
ReplyDeleteHuge congrats, Alex!
ReplyDeleteSir Poops, Hair Ball, and I are soooo happy for you! And Brandon and Bryan are Beevus and Butthead funny. Do they snort when they laugh?
ReplyDeleteCongratulations Alex!
ReplyDeleteOMG- love that little cartoon- LOL
Really got a kick out of Brandon and Bryan. Congrats on your book!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the book promotion! I don't know who this Asimov guy is but he should be proud to have his book near to yours! :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the huge success of your book. That's amazing. Will you invite us all over for champagne now?
ReplyDeleteTerri, big thanks! And never say never, fur or not.
ReplyDeleteJoylene, much safer in the shower. And thanks.
Shelly, I'll have to ask!
David, yeah!
Vanessa, champagne and dinner!
Now that's a formula for marketing success. Harry Potter + Anything = Sales
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the march up the charts, Alex! Combining B&B's advice (#3) with your success, I'll get right to work on my new space orchestra, Bassastorm.
ReplyDeleteI love chocolate. Funny Anti-Valentine's Day. I'm Not Anti-Valentine's Day, but I am opposed to commercial and consumer Valentine!
ReplyDeleteBig congrats on the great sales! Couldn't have happened to a nicer ninja.
ReplyDeleteCassaFire-Awesome!!! and loved the two guys and their clever tips!
ReplyDeleteAwesome tips from Brandon and Bryan - thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on rocking the Amazon ranks, Alex! BookBub ad's have an amazing reach, don't they.
Loved the guest post today . . . I can tell those are two wild and crazy guys :-) And because I follow you through email, I never realized I didn't follow you through Google (I don't use it all), so I followed you there now, too. HUGE congrats on your successful 99 cent sale--let's hope your books stay at the top where they belong~cheers
ReplyDeleteI knew I was doing this whole writing thing all wrong. Thanks for the advice!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy your sale is going well.
Nate, you do that!
ReplyDeleteLeovi, the day exists for Hallmark alone anymore.
Angela, yes they do!
Jamie, thanks - and thanks for following via GFC.
I'd never seen that R.L. Stein quote. Interesting to hear this perspective - so different from the norm. Huge congrats on the successful sale and those awesome Amazon rankings!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on those amazing numbers! WOO HOO! *bows*
ReplyDeleteI can't say I write from the heart... it's more like I write from the gut. It just doesn't feel right to say that I have serial killer stories coming from the heart. Ha!
God I love the comic :D :D :D
ReplyDeleteWelcome to A to Z theme reveal! Looking forward to finding out what your theme will be. Cheers!
Csenge (@TarkabarkaHolgy)
He Ninja dude,
ReplyDeleteIndeed, the writing advice of Brandon and Bryan is most notable. However, I don't think trying need be hard work. The best thing to do is to write without pressure or preconceived notions.
Your promotion was a magical success. Your altruism is admirable. I just find there is way too much on here to fully absorb. I know you will understand.
All the best and good, very early morning from a drenched, flooded England.
Gary
Bryan and Brandon cracked me up!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on your sale success! That is amazing!!!
Glad the sale of your book was a smash. I am halfway done with the
ReplyDeletefirst one and meant to buy the second but, I had some unexpected
events come up so I missed the sale. I will still buy it when I'm done with the first as now I have to finish the series. Just the way I am..
Enjoyed reading Brandon and Bryan's advice.
That was hilarious. those guys rock. And congrats on the success.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the book's success. Hopefully it will translate to sales of your other books, too. Thanks for being such an inspiration for the rest of us.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations, Alex!
ReplyDeleteAlso enjoyed the "advice." I think giving up is always the path to success. And I'm waiting for that vampire magic school novel.
Ruth, it was a different perspective, wasn't it?
ReplyDeleteJennifer, I would be worried if you did!
Csenge, it's complicated. As usual.
Truedessa, sorry you missed it. Hope you are enjoying the first one.
Ken, it did make a difference with the other two.
Thanks, guys!
Hey Alex. Love seeing that your books saw some great rank climbing.
ReplyDeleteIf anyone deserves it, Ninja Captain, it's you.
The advice provided was a bit different from the norm, but hey, to each thug and cat collector be their own lol!!
Ha! Love the cats. :)
ReplyDeleteWow, Alex. That's great news!
Congratulations on the good news, Alex. this bodes so well for your next book :)
ReplyDeleteHello Alex, I am Yvonne Lewis one of Arlee Bird's Ambassadors. Hope you have your theme sorted and all set for April. Will certainly visit during the challenge.
ReplyDeleteYvonne.
I am going to follow Brandon and Bryan's advice to the letter! Ha, ha.
ReplyDeleteHey, Alex,
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the numbers! That's AWESOME!!!!!
LOL, I loved the writing tips from Brandon and Bryan. Now THAT'S what I call good advice.
ReplyDeleteWow, congratulations Alex!! I'm so glad the sale is going well! That's so impressive, and so cool.
Damy, which means I better get busy and finish it!
ReplyDeleteYvonne, that made me chuckle.
Thanks, guys!
Brandon and Bryan's advice definitely rocks! Love that comic strip. haha. Not sure about a cat collection, though I already have a starter kit of two. :D Glad to hear you're working on a new manuscript! Excited to see what you come up with next!
ReplyDeletehugs,

Reminiscent of Heinlein! Wowza. Well done, pAl. Hope yer gettin' some good work done, today.
ReplyDeleteThe Beer guys was the laugh I needed today! Love the R.L. Stein quote, too. Gotta go revamp my entire ms, but first to reread some top sellers.
ReplyDeleteGood luck on your new work!
Brandon and Bryan are crazy. A collection of cats might not go over well in my cramped space of an apartment. If I ever won the lottery, I wouldn't mind opening a rescue center for animals though.
ReplyDeleteThat mention of R.L. Stein takes me back to my tween years when I had a bunch of horror books...and lost (or maybe somebody stole it. Who knows?!) my favorite one. That was a downer. Now, I want to dig them out and read them, lol.

Those beer from the shower guys are a crack-up:) Also, congrats on reaching #194!
ReplyDeleteHa! Very funny writing advice. I needed a good laugh. Congrats on the success of your books, Alex!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the success of CassaFire's promotion! How exciting!
ReplyDeleteNutschell, it all starts with the starter kit...
ReplyDeleteSuze, I did!
Nicole, go find them.
Thanks, everyone!
Wow, your book did AMAZINGLY well on sale! Big congratulations!
ReplyDeleteGo big surprise! I'll see the blog from A to Z!
ReplyDeleteLove the advice from B & B. That's fabulous news about CassaFire.
ReplyDeleteHoly moly you have a lot of comments! Loved the advice from the beer guys, especially the 2nd one. Congrats on your sale. that's totally awesome!
ReplyDeleteLove Brandon and Bryan's advice. It simply rocks. Instead of cats, can I start collecting rabbits or
ReplyDeleteparrots?
Congrats on the book sale.
So....how does writing about a toilet covered in shag carpet fit in?
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, CONGRATULATIONS on the ranking on Amazon! What a kick that must have been to see it. Screen shots all around.
ReplyDeleteAs for the advice guys, I started off crocheting cats, figuring if I ever quit, I'd be instantly able to write well. I'll let you know how that turns out.
Congratulations! Also, writing from the heart is useless, unless you introduce your heart to your head. In high school, they tell students anyone can write. Perhaps. However, not everyone can make a living at it.
ReplyDeleteLove the ridiculous Beer advice, and CONGRATULATIONS on your book's Amazon success! That's an absolutely huge accomplishment... I'm so happy for you!!
ReplyDeleteBrandon and Bryan always rock! I had to laugh about the critique equaling spitting in your face and hating you. Yikes! Congratulations on your climb up the lists, Alex!
ReplyDeleteTBM, yeah as many as a Blog Blitz.
ReplyDeleteRachna, Parrots would be great!
Al, is it in a vampire's house?
Lynda, crocheting cats - priceless!
JJ, that is very true.
Thanks, guys!!
Alex, you are seriously awesome. I think your success shows that slow and steady wins the race. You know how to do writing right. Thanks for the inspiration!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the stats, my friend! :D
ReplyDeleteBravo to Brandon and Bryan for keeping it real! Cheers guys, so fun to read-I needed that and another Cold Snap-(name of my beer).
ReplyDeleteCongrats Alex-you rock! Cheers to you, too~ I hope you, Mrs. AC and mini Alex didn't lose the power.
Stay warm my friend!
Congrats on the blast of CassaFire Alex. I was one of the 99c cheapskates who bought it! Started reading along with a dozen other ebooks, and like the beginning. I'll get to the end eventually but no worries, I bought it!!
ReplyDeleteLove the expert advice on writing. I'm still chuckling.
Denise
Thank you, Anne!
ReplyDeleteElla, thank you, and our power did flicker once but we never lost it.
Denise, big thank you for buying it!
Bryan and Brandon definitely have the right idea. I've already started my cat collection.
ReplyDeleteHi Alex! I really enjoyed this post! Brandon's and Bryan's writing advice was very funny ~ with more than a little truth in it! As a former elementary teacher, I've heard a lot of authors speak to children about writing. They also say to write what you know. Congratulations on all the awesome press that you are receiving! Have a happy weekend!
ReplyDeleteThanks for lurking Alex! Sometimes I feel I need to hire street thugs!
ReplyDeleteNow cats .. I'd love to have one .. but not really practical ..
Top of the charts - that's pretty awesome .. so pleased for you .. cheers Hilary
Patricia, I think Katie Kitten makes five on her own.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Fundy!
Hilary, the Ninja is always on duty.
I'm glad the promotion went so well for you. You deserve all the success in the world!
ReplyDeleteLet's see crocheting is always very rewarding....
ReplyDeletethat was hilarious! those guys are awesome!

my publisher put PT on sale just for this weekend, but i don't have near the connections you do - but hopefully i will see a bump! when i get more out, i will then too.
happy happy weekend!
Very nice stats, Alex -- and a great quote by Stein. I write to entertain as well, but once in a while my heart leaks through.
ReplyDeleteSo glad your book rose in the charts!! Well-deserved, Alex. Well-deserved. :)
ReplyDeleteLove the cartoons, contemporary humor is obviously a major hit in Google Circles these days. Its gas, Bryan and Brandon have it made. they've managed to figure out how to cartoon in a specific way which folk like. Their classy cartooning is so unique. Congratulations on the Cassahits on Amazon Alex.
ReplyDeleteTara, I hope you see a big bump! Did you send out Tweets?
ReplyDeleteThanks, guys!
Ha ha ha! Okay, so from now on I'll draft only, forget the editing, keep knitting, and play with my cats!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on the 194 overall!
I almost spat out my tea - great advice! And OMG - go you climbing those charts. Please share out some of your awesomeness... I'm seriously lacking. X
