This will be my last post of the year. I’m taking some time off to celebrate Christmas and will return on January 2, 2013 for the next posting of the Insecure Writer’s Support Group. Your co-hosts will be Jamie Gibbs from Mithril Wisdom and Tyrean Martinson. But don’t worry – the Ninja will be lurking…
The final installment of Michael Abayomi’s series, Guardians and the Lost Paradise, is finally available! You can pick up The Other Side at Amazon or buy all six books in a bundle HERE. Congratulations, Michael!!
And Mini Alex took a road trip! Elise took him with her to Paris and Mini Alex ended up in several photographs. Thanks, Elise! Poor little dude will be bored with my place…
Thought I’d do a roundup of my favorite movies of the year, even though Tarantino’s Django Unchained isn’t out yet. These are the films I enjoyed in 2012:
#9 – The Cabin in the Woods – Joss Whedon and a bat-shit crazy ending. It turned the horror genre on its head.
#8 - The Amazing Spiderman – No, we didn’t need a reboot this soon, but I enjoyed this version far more than Sam Raimi’s movies. Spiderman had snark!
#7 – The Hobbit – Fun, beautiful visuals, and charming. It was a comfortable and familiar place I didn’t want to leave.
#6 – Argo – Incredibly well acted and tense! And best unofficial tagline of the year. (If you’ve seen it, you know what I’m talking about.)
#5 – Lincoln – Powerful and riveting. Day-Lewis made me believe he was Lincoln.
#4 – The Dark Knight Rises – A little dark but a powerful ending to the trilogy. Yes, I am a DC geek and Christopher Nolan fanboy. So sue me.
#3 - John Carter – This is what a space opera/adventure is supposed to be! Epic. (And yes, I really wish I’d written it.)
#2 – Looper – Highly underrated small-scale science fiction film Great performances and second in plot twists only to Memento.
#1 – The Avengers – Best superhero film EVER. Joss Whedon hit this one out of the park.
And I wanted to note a couple other films:
Dumbest fun movie – Battleship – Yup, and just as dumb but fun the second time. Maybe even more so. And the Battleship references are hysterical.
Biggest Disappointment – Prometheus – The more I thought about it, the more I didn’t like it. The Swiss cheese of movie plots.
Worst movie – Lockout – Save yourself and skip this film! Bad on every level except for Guy Pearce. Dude, you used to do great films like Memento and L.A. Confidential! What happened?
Did you see any memorable films this year?
Thoughts on 2012/2013
As we close out 2012, I have to say this has been one heck of a year! Everything about it was amazing. On the book front, my second book came out, I wrote the third book, and the first two both became Amazon Best Sellers. Online the IWSG continues to rock, I got to host the A to Z Challenge again, hosted some blogfests, and even WAS a blogfest. (Still singed, but I lived.) And on the home front I’m playing in a band and even got to take some real vacations this year.
Next year of course will be more awesome IWSG posts, the fourth A to Z Challenge, and of course the third and final book, CassaStorm, in September.
The final book? I’m not sure. Toying with the idea of co-writing a book with another author. Also thinking that I will miss the Cassan universe. I think three books is good though. Besides, since I keep jumping ahead twenty years, Byron will soon be a hundred, and I don’t think he’ll be all that exciting at that point.
But whether I continue writing or choose to focus on my guitar playing, I still intend to remain here for you guys. I’ve made so many awesome friends and found a tremendous community online. I want to continue to serve you and be a blessing! Thanks for making this year awesome. You guys rock!
Ready to kick off 2013 with the IWSG? Did you see Mini Alex in Paris? How was your 2012 and what are your plans for 2013? And what were some of your favorite movies this year?
Everyone have a Blessed Christmas and a Happy New Year!

It really has been an amazing year - especially for you!
I hope you have a wonderful Christmas, and a fantastic New Year!
The two best movies I've seen this year are actually a few years old.
REC is a Spanish zombie movie that came out in 2007. Manuela Velasco, who is a real TV presenter here in Spain, plays a TV presenter riding along with a group of firemen. They respond to a call of a domestic incident only to find an apartment building that has been infected with the zombie virus. A very effective film in the handheld camera style.
It was remade in the States as Quarantine, which I haven't seen. Hollywood remakes a lot of European movies and the originals are almost always better.
The other great movie I saw this year was SPUN (2002), which follows three days in the life of a meth addict. I had plenty of reasons not to take meth before I saw this film, but now I have even more! At turns sad and hilarious, I found this film strangely affecting and actually ended up caring about the loser characters.
Neither of these films are for the faint of heart!
Totally agree with you about Avengers and Prometheus and I'm looking forward to the Hobbit. Well, it really has been a year filled to the brim for you and I wish you continued success in whatever path you choose to follow, writing, music....just glad you'll be sticking around. Enjoy your vacation, Mini Alex, and have a wonderful Christmas with your family. And when you get back, lets rock 2013! :D
This post has highlighted how many films I haven't seen this year. I meant to, but when the time came I was busy/lacked funds/working and just never made it to the cinema.
I will next year because the new Superman film is coming, and I'll definitely be there for that!!!!
Oh and I hope you have a lovely Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Have a lovely Xmas and New Year, Alex
Have a merry Christmas!
I was just thinking the same thing as Annalisa -- I've hardly seen any films this year! I'm definitely going to see the Hobbit at some point though.
Have a great Christmas and I wish you lots of luck in 2013 :-)
Alex, I agree with most of your choices for best movies of the year, though I thought John Carter was average at best; I liked TAS a tiny bit more than TDKR, and I LOVED Prometheus!:)
@Sean,
I'm REC's biggest fan. In my book, it's the scariest movie ever made. Period. :)
Mini Alex in Paris! Awesome.
I agree about Battleship and Prometheus. The first was ridiculous and the second didn't make any sense.
My plans for 2013? My family, two short story collections, and finishing my YA novel. Have a wonderful Christmas and happy New Year!
Great post to wind down your year! I agree- it has definitely been a great year for you as a writer and author of two Amazon Best Sellers. I was reading the A-Z blog just the other day and it seems unreal that it is almost sign up time yet again. It made me wonder where this year has went? Wishing you and your family a wonderful Christmas and Holiday and a Happy and Safe New Year!
Loved seeing your movie choices and have a lot to rent.
Your reflections on what's coming are interesting. I hope you decide to continue writing but I understand the pull of your musical talents too.
Have a Happy Holidays!
I think I'm a kid, my favorite movies were Avengers, Madagascar 3, The Origin of the Guardians and yes, The Hobbit. Ah well, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! :D
I saw Argo, and absolutely loved it, but don't have a CLUE what the tagline is... (that's because I usually don't have a clue, period.)
Loved your visit over with Mistress Snark - maybe she should get together with Spidey?
And please, slow down and enjoy the Christmas holidays. All the best to you and yours during this special season. xox
I'm going on Christmas break too. Looking forward to it! I'm currently reading Cassa-Star, Alex. Found it in my local library, and I really am enjoying it!
Sean, I've seen both the Spanish REC and the remake. Both good films.
Elise, let's rock!!
Same to you, Annalisa!
Stacey, need to take you to the movies.
Ellie, ridiculous but fun!
Gossip Girl, I have no idea what happened to this year.
Natalie, we'll just have to wait and see.
Al, nothing wrong with that!
Cathy, It was four words. And I promise to slow down.
Karen, thank you! I appreciate that.
Merry Christmas to you. Enjoy the SEASON.
Some great movie choices. I too really liked Argo and Looper. I also thought Prometheus was cheesy.
have to see argo & looper
and looking forward to hearing about a new cavanaugh collaboration! (saw elise's pics, what a time they had!)
merry christmas!!
Great movie choices, Alex. And I'm glad you're leaving the possibility of more writing in the picture. :D
Merry Christmas!
Of all of those movies, I only saw Prometheus on DVD. I agree the plot was a mess, but the baby alien delivery scene was very realistic. Yikes.
See you on the 2nd.
Just saw Men in Black 3 and enjoyed it so much - Josh Brolin as a young Tommy Lee Jones was hilarious. Those movies are just plain fun. Got Paranorman on deck for the weekend.
2012 was a good year but I'm looking forward to 2013, which I hope will be even better on all fronts. :)
All the best, Alex! Enjoy your time off.
I'm trying to convince myself to watch Cabin in the Woods. I'm not a horror/suspense movie kind of girl, but, well, it's Joss Whedon, so I have to watch it, don't you think? =P
Jezebel is still lying in wait for you...with hot tamales as bait. ;)
Love the Mini Alex traveling to Paris. He could be the new Flat Stanley for the school kids!
As typical, I didn't see any movies this year. :(
Have a wonderful time off!
We all should have a mini Capn Ninja to take with us wherever we go...!
:-)
Take care
x
Enjoy your time off because you work so hard! I'll see you when you get back.
I love the movie list - I actually watched 8 of the 10 listed. My personal favorite was The Dark Knight Rises but I am holding out final judgement until after I watch Django Unchained next week!
2012 has been a year to rock out about.
I'm very happy for you and the success you've garnered. All earned!
And I'm totally with you regarding The Avengers. I dare say I haven't made the time to see the other movies mentioned, though I've heard some awesome things about Looper so that one is firmly on my radar.
May your Christmas be Merry, your New Year Happy and your life a continuous stream of day to day Captain fun.
LOCKOUT is in my Netflix queue now that it's been added to the service. I'll still watch it. Eventually.
Love Mini Alex in Paris! Those photos were so much fun!
I'm a little behind on your movie list but now that some of these are out on DVD I will be able to watch them.
Couldn't agree more with your NUMBER 1!!!!!!
It does sound like you had an awesome year and I'm so glad we all got to share it with you.
I love being a part of this community with all our highs and lows. There is always so much laughter and hope and very little drama.
Have a great holiday with your family and friends.
Merry Christmas.
Heather

As the father of a young son, I don't get to see many movies anymore, but I have seen three on your list (1,2,9) of which Cabin was actually my favorite. The rest I'll watch via Netflix over the coming months/years.
But it has been a great year. Enjoy the holidays, Alex!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you Alex!!! :)
It's been a great year and I look forward to another great year.
Enjoy your holidays!
why does every blogger think they can take time off during the holidays? Lazy!! You are probably the only one that I know that liked the movie John Carter. Very surprising.
Have a Merry Hannukah-KwanzaaMas
Argo WAS awesome and even though I liked Prometheus better than you I was still disappointed. Enjoy your vaca!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, Alex!
Okay, I've seen exactly ZERO of the movies on your top movies list, but that will change next week!!
I was disappointed with PROMETHEUS as well. Scott is capable of better. I was also disappointed with THE DARK KNIGHT RISES. I got the impression that Mr. Nolan was rushing through it without thinking of the major plot holes or the character inconsistences. Like you, I loved THE AVENGERS. I enjoyed THE HOBBIT. Alas, I missed ARGO! Aaaaargh!
Enjoy your holidays. We will miss you, Roland
I agree with the Avengers being the best superhero movie ever! It will be interesting to see if anyone dies in the next film. If so, my vote goes to Hawkeye. Hmmmm ... that almost sounds like a Ghoul Pool.
I have yet to see Cabin in the Woods. I'll watch that this weekend.
Nice reflection on the year . . .I didn't do that, but today's my last post for 2012 too. I'm so thankful you're here and you're rocking you're way thorugh the blogsphere! Thanks for all you do!
I'm looking forward to reading CassaStorm - and my hubby keeps asking when it will be out - he can't quite believe he has to wait until September.
I'm definitely ready to kick off 2013 with IWSG, am going to see the Mini Alex in Paris post.
2012 was full, and fun, and challenging and wonderful all at once. My first "real" book will come out in 2013, and I'm super excited about that. (I'll explain the real at IWSG) My favorite movies: The Hobbit, Avengers, and Looper (although I'm not planning to let my kids watch that last one). I also really liked Wreck It Ralph for sheer cleverness and fun.
It has been a super amazing year for you Alex. Byron at 100 will still be a superhero (just like you). Wishing you Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year.
IF you keep writing? What? You know you will. Wouldn't you miss it? :)
Merry Christmas Alex! We'll see you next year. :)
Enjoy your well deserved rest.
I wish you and your wife a
VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS
AND
ALL THE BEST FOR 2013!
On Monday I watched The Hobbit in 2D. My wife and I like it a lot. From my Point of view Peter Jackson did a great job. The Hobbit fits perfectly to the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
In Germany there is a five minute break in the middle of the film. They do that in order to sell more food and drinks.
2012 was big for me, as I was prepping for the release of my first book next month. I think 2013 is going to be fantastic! (The world better now end in two days, one month before my book FINALLY comes out. Just sayin.) I haven't seen Argo or The Hobbit yet, but I will soon. Totally agree on all your 'best films' especially Looper and Avengers. Thanks Alex! Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! :D
I'll go see The Cabin in the Woods! Yes, Prometheus was disappointing!
Favourite movie this year? Hmm, saw extremely few... Maybe The Dark Knight
I pretty much agree with your reviews of those movies. Have a great Christmas.
I'm thinking you will still write some. It's too much a part of you, my friend. I will still write (I'm not musically inclined) and I hope to make an impact this year with a project I'm going to work on.
I agree with your movie choices. The Hobbit is made of awesomeness. :-)
Merry Christmas, to you and Mrs. C. I'll see you in the New year. And what a year it'll be. If you come to play in Asheville, I'll be in the audience. For sure!
That would be weird. 100 years old. Yikes!
I loved Elise's blog post with the mini Alex in Paris. That was awesome. I actually enjoyed Prometheus and liked the extended scenes edition even more. Avengers was probably the best. I really liked the Hobbit too though. I guess all is subjective in the land of make believe. Have a fantastic Christmas vacation, Alex, and may all your dreams and wishes come true.
I have heard about the punch over at Laura's, but she won't share the recipe!
I did see Mini Alex all over Paris - I'm so jealous! Was it fun?
Have a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, Alex and Mrs. C. I'm making Friday's post the final for the year - and not because it's the end of the world :)
<3 peace and love <3
I enjoyed Princess of Mars much better than the film adaptation, but it was my first 3D film too. Can't agree with you more on the Avengers being the best superhero film ever.
Enjoy Christmas with the family, Alex.
Argo and Lincoln are two films I'm still dying to see!
Jai
I would never go to the theatres to see Battleship. At first I was like action, explosions, yah! Then I saw Rihanna and was like hell no! She's not an actress. I've learned to avoid movies where they pimp out singers unless I'm sure they can act. Anyway you had a great top movie list and yes Avengers is one of the best movies of 2012.
Read the post and saw the pics of Mini Alex touring with the tiny ninja, Loved it and congrats getting such a neat thing. See you Jan 2!
It's so nice you're taking some well-deserved time off. Playing the piano is one of the things I intend to do on my blogging hiatus. I never make time for it anymore. Yay for you and the guitar, Alex!!!
Really loved Looper. Joseph Gordon-Levitt is quickly becoming one of my favorite actors. Loved him in The Dark Knight and Looper. I really thought that they nailed it with the third movie. The Avengers was amazing, of course. I don't think Joss Whedon knows how to do anything badly! Every time you mention John Carter I remind myself AGAIN that I MUST watch this movie. I loved Taylor in FNL and you keep talking about how good the story is. What is not to like?
Enjoy the not writing and just spending time with your family. Recharge those batteries. I am sure whatever decision you come to about your next project, be it a co-writing venture or another solo writing deal, will be the best thing for you. Just listen to your heart.
Congrats again on all your Cassa success:)
How cool that mini Alex went to Paris! I hope he enjoyed the food - French food is delicious!
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
Have fun on your well deserved time off Alex! We seem to have opposing viewpoints on movies. I enjoyed Lockout and disliked Battleship. We should do a Siskel and Ebert style movie review. LOL Thanks for signing up for the blogfest and I hope you can make it! Enjoy your new year!
Still haven't seen Argo yet!
Sounds like a truly happy year for you, Alex. Hope you have a wonderful Christmas and enjoy your break!
Oh, you know you're more than toying :P
I still need to see Cabin.
Happy holidays everybody! Especially you, Ninja man!
Guitar: what a wonderful outlet for your musical talents. What a great year for you. You're an excellent writer. Enjoy your holiday break with family and friends!
Whoa! Time to play catchup.
Juliana, you have to! Prepare for gore. Not really scary though.
Laura, the Ninja is too fast...
Kitty, make it so!
Optimistic, same here. Tarantino rocks.
Joshua, you have been warned...
Heather, Amen!
Karen, we'll see.
PTM, and I stand by liking it!
Roland, you have to see Argo!
Stephen, sounds like a potential blogfest - who dies?
Tyrean, sorry he has to wait. Looking forward to your book!
Rachna, a really old superhero.
Edi, interesting they give you a break. Bet the bathroom lines were long. Glad you liked it though!
Liesel, no - it can't end yet!!!
Robyn, we'll find out what happens...
Gwen, Mini Alex had fun.
Jeff, shame there won't be any more...
Sheena-kay, she wasn't too bad though.
Robin, watch John Carter! And I saw three movies this year with Gordon-Levitt. He's one hard working dude.
Maurice, that would be funny!
Andrew, toying with pressure!
Thank you, everyone!!!!
Man. You get to see so many awesome movies.
Neither my wife or I liked the new Spiderman. Didn't resonate with me from reading the comics as a kid. I still want to see Looper. And yes, John Carter was tremendous.
YOU rock Alex! I laughed so hard when I saw your post, lol. I guess I had a blogger glitch. YOU know me, never a loss for words, lol.
Happy Holidays to you and Mrs. AC...
I know she is cool, just like you~
Off to Paris to visit Mini YOU and Elise :D
Yes, AVENGERS was the best!!! I can't wait to see Looper! No, I won't be looped, when I see it...
No, I didn't drink any punch over at Laura's blog...funny interview~
Happy, Merry to you~
Thanks for the laughs :D
I know you will be lurking in stealth mode...
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, Alex. Best wishes to your family. Hope the season is extra special. See you in the New Year.
Byron could still rock it at nearly 100 years old. He could be like Sean Connery! And be sexy and bada** at like any age ;)
Going to stop by and read your Mistress Snark interview.
And...just have to say I was a little surprised not to see Anna Kareninna on your list! ;)
I can't remember the last time I've been to a movie theatre, though it was never a big habit of mine to regularly go to the movies. I've usually watched them on television or rented them, and I'm much more into classic films and foreign films than modern Hollywood films.
I finally went back to school this year, for a master's degree, 10 years after getting my BA, and just yesterday turned a third of a century old. Hopefully in the next year, I'll be well underway to completing my degree.
The Avengers was fantastic! I can't wait for a sequel. I think Joss did a FANTASTIC JOB!
Wow, Paris! Sounds like fun! Hope you had a good time. :) Thanks for your awesome support this year. Happy 2013 to you and your wife!
Ooh, LOCKOUT. Yeah, I saw that one. Blah... I've yet to see Argo, but I so want to!
It's been a pleasure blogging with you this year, Alex. I look forward to another great year, all Mayan-ed up and everything!
For me John Carter was my guilty pleasure movie. It was fun - too bad it bombed at the box office.
Have a wonderful Christmas, and I'll talk to you in 2013 - granted the world doesn't end in a couple days.
John Carter and the Avengers truly rocked 2012! Those were great.
I've seen movies a lot worse than Lockout, lol! Totally agree with Dark Knight. Can't wait to see Looper.
Thrilled you had such an awesome year. May 2013 be even better.
Happy Holidays!
I'm excited for CassaStorm. I liked CassaStar, but i really liked CassaFire so i'm excited to see what you do in the final installment
Hope you have a lovely Christmas. See you in the New Year.
Merry, Merry Christmas to you and Mrs. Alex. You'll have to share some audio of your band in the new year.
Saw some of the movies, will probably see the rest.
Will be ready with IWSG on the 2nd! Have a Happy Holidays.
I'm looking forward to seeing the Hobbit--I love great visuals!!! Prometheus was odd, because it started with a bang, but it kind of fizzled. Have a great holiday!
Avengers was just as good as I hoped it would be. I'm a Whedon fan, and he delivered.
Laura's interview was fun-- she has a great sense of humor. Great of you to play along!
What a fantastic year! Mini Alex is having so much fun. I actually liked Cabin in the Woods better than The Avengers. Not by much, but I had so much fun with it. I feel the same way about Prometheus. It's too bad. It had a good beginning, but it lost me the second half. Have a wonderful holiday!
Happy Holidays to you, your wife and family. Best wishes for 2013, Alex.
Loved mini-Alex in Paris. It reminded me of Amelie and the garden gnome. What a great tribute to you, Capt'n, and you even get to keep it.
I want to see the Hobbit plus a few other movies soon. Just have to find the time.
I loved the shots of mini-Alex in Paris!
Have a blessed Christmas and wonderful New Year, Alex!
Man...it's uncanny how alike our Movie opinions are!
HAPPY HOLIDAYS, Alex!!!
Avengers definitely ranks as my favorite movie of the year. Probably followed by Bourne Legacy and Mission impossible 4. Hey, all Jeremy Renner movies!
Cabin, Looper, Avengers - Great! I would probably put Spider-Man a bit higher on my list though, that one caught me off guard and was way better than I expected.
Agreed that Promethus got weaker upon reflection. It was beautiful and that fooled me at first. That was my biggest disappointment of the year.
i will be talking about the avengers until the next avengers film comes out... dark knight rises is the second favorite in my group... i am watching it right now. i did not care for the spider man film, maybe i will have to see it a second time... the others are on my list...
i would like a cut out of ninja: alex...
have a great day!
You have a wonderful Christmas break, and see you next year!
Mini Alex is TOO funny! And I agree on Prometheus and Argo. Those are the only ones I've seen, though. :D
Take care,
So many good things, Alex. But good things happen to good people so all well-deserved! Merry Christmas to you and yours. May the joy of the Season be with you now and throughout the coming year.
Matthew, every week!
Charles, yes it was!
Ella, glad my fast comment amused you. I knew it was a glitch, but I couldn't resist. Wise of you to avoid the punch.
Cassie, if you say so!
Johanna, not likely!
Carrie-Anne, hope you will as well.
Jay, it deserved to do better.
Sarah, hope it doesn't disappoint.
Susan, maybe...
Catherine, fizzled and burned.
Christine, I think it lost itself.
DL, you have good taste then!
Lauren, you must have a thing for him.
Rusty, same here.
Jeremy, I'll trace him and send it to you.
It seems I need to do some movie watching. I still haven't seen Looper or the Hobbit.
And I love Mini Alex in Paris hehehe.
Have a wonderful and safe Christmas. Enjoy your break!!
Yes, you are right to take a break, you deserve it. Best wishes for you to have a Merry Christmas.
I liked Prometheus. Seeing it in 3D made me feel as if I stood on that planet though. So they swayed my bias with that.
Have a wonderful holiday!
Elise is hilarious. That post was awesome. 2012 was non stop for me. I'm glad you're taking time off.
Happy Holidays, Alex!
I loved The Avengers. Best movie I saw this year.
Have a fabulous holiday and a great 2013!!!
Happy Christmas Alex. I hope you and yours have a great holiday. Look forward to the first IWSG post in 2013.
Have a great Holiday! LOVED Avengers :)
I have not seen The Hobbit yet, but I am really looking forward to it! I think I might take my family to see it next week.
Merry Christmas! And congrats on all you accomplished in 2012.
Love that Elise took mini-Alex to Paris!
Sounds like a good year, overall.
Every time I watch Cabin in the Woods, I see another monster I missed before. Great list of films, though I haven't seen Dark Knight Rises yet. I liked Paranorman, and feel it got a bit of the shaft next to Frankenweenie. Despite being a Burton fan, I preferred Paranorman.
Shannon at The Warrior Muse
This was a big year for you! Congratulations on all the accomplishments and laurels :)
Avengers as No. 1 film of 2012: AGREED!
"Besides, since I keep jumping ahead twenty years, Byron will soon be a hundred, and I don’t think he’ll be all that exciting at that point." <-- this made me laugh aloud. You could always start following his descendants, of course.
It's so much fun to look back on a year. I didn't realize there was a mini-alex. How fun! :) Sometimes there can be room for more than one interest in our lives: as in both guitar and writing! :)
Um this "Mistress Snark", that reminds me of my combined sneeze and bark. Anyway, I will try to check out your guest appearance at Laura's site. I really have no idea how you manage to keep up with it all. I need my doggy naps.
Me thinks there are plenty of links. Which is testimony of your altruistic nature. My human still thinks the Avengers was about some posh English chap and some nice looking lady. John Steed and Emma Pee, I believe....
I shall be doing the 'Alphabark Challenge' next year. Yes, the animal alternative to that other challenge. Delighted to note your third book will be out in September.
I think you should play guitar and type at the same time. I wouldn't be surprised if you could do that.
Have a peaceful Christmas and a positive 2013, my human friend.
Penny the Jack Russell dog and modest internet superstar! :)
Continue writing, Alex! We're behind your back cheering you on! We don't care if Byron is 100 years old or not! :)
I enjoy IWSG every month! It's so nice to meet new writers and hang out with your friends at a formal online meeting! Of course, you're the one at the podium saying, "Ready to share _______" And we discuss our insecurity! It's a fab group and thanks for hosting it!
I loved Argo! That was one of the best films I've seen this year!
You're quite the Ninja Captain! I love you, Alex! I may need to use your promoting services next year! ;)
Shannon, there are just so many monsters! Haven't seen Paranorman yet.
Callie, since the third book introduces his son, I could!
Penny, Alphabark Challenge sounds perfect!
Livia, I am here to help you any way I can!
It's been a great year! And I hope your 2013 is even better! I hope you and your wife enjoy a wonderful Christmas! *hugs*
I hope to see The Hobbit over the holidays. Merry Christmas to you and your family!
You're the second person to recommend Looper. I was excited to see this among your list of faves because I'm looking forward to seeing this. I love time travel tales and if the plot is awesome, all the better!
Yes, what a great year it's been. Congrats to you. I've got CassaStar downloaded and have both your books on my TBR list. Gosh, Sept. 2013 will be here before we know it and then you'll be able to sell your trilogy as a bundle! Woo hoo!
Enjoy your time off. See you next year, Ninja Captain!
I didn't accomplish half the things you did Alex, 2012 was a great year! Avengers was AWESOME and continues to be awesome every time I watch it.
I think 2013 will be even better! Enjoy your time off, 2013 will be here before you know it!
I would like to see some of the movies you listed, but will have to wait either for iTunes or even the TV before I get to see them. Never heard of one or two of them.
Have a great Christmas Alex and a Happy New Year to you and your family.
Jemi, we will!
Brinda, Merry Christmas to you.
Lynn, watch Looper! And thank you so much for buying my book.
Jenn, yes it will.
Jo, you as well.
Merry Christmas to you and your family! I'm excited to hear more about the co-author thing next year.
Merry Christmas, Alex. Have a wonderful holiday and I'll see you next year:)
2012 has been a crazy year and 2013 is ramping up to be even better. That's cool that you're toying with the idea of co-authoring a next book. Merry Christmas to you and the Mrs!
I just saw Argo and loved it. And to hell with the critics who dissed John Carter, which I thought was fun. But there are so many good movies out right now I've got a backed-up list of them to see.
I'm so glad you had a great year, Alex. Here's to 2013.
Hope you have an awesome Christmas, Alex! Here's to a great 2013!
Jamie
I'm afraid to say I haven't seen any of your favourite movies from 2012. That definitely needs to be remedied!
2012 was a tumultuous year for me, but one with some wonderful highs. Publishing my debut novel and growing a baby come to mind. Next year, my main focus will be on being a mum. I can't wait!
I hope you have a wonderful Christmas, Alex. :-)
Hey Man,
Have a Great and Merry Christmas and the Koopmans Ohana sends the Cavanaugh Ohana its best wishes for a very Happy New Year in 2013 :)
((discreet distance Manhug))
I think I'm seeing The Hobbit this weekend. I told the ex-hubs he's taking me and he didn't grumble much, so I take that as a yes. I've seen a few of those movies.
I hope you have a wonderful Holiday break Alex. Have some fun.

Oy! I forgot it was Wednesday, hence being late. 2012 was a big year for me in so many ways, good & bad. But mostly good. I enjoyed the friendship of many wonderful people, including you, Alex. Thanks for all your help & sage advice. For next year, a new book and an even scarier roller coaster than the last. I wish you & your wife a blessed Christmas & New Year!
Love mini-Alex! :)
What a great year you've had. I hope you have a lovely break - see you in 2013!
Another great post Alex, thanks for all you have done for blogland.
Hope you and your wife have a wonderful Christmas and all the best for 2013.
Yvonne.
I must say I agree with your views on the movies, although I haven't seen The Hobbit yet. Will wait to go and see it after Christmas.
Yes it certainly has been a great year!
Hope you enjoy Christmas and look forward to visiting in 2013!
Have a blessed and Merry Christmas, Alex. I'm truly happy to have met you. Enjoy your New Year!
I'm going to link up for the IWSG for the first time next month and while I'm scared to death, I'll survive, that's what it's all about. Thank you for creating it.
Oh, Cabin In The Woods - hello creepy as hell because it could happen!!!
Looks like you've had a great year and another excellent one in the works!
I'm going around to all of the wonderful blogs I follow to wish you a Merry Christmas (and they're ALL wonderful, otherwise I wouldn't follow). Have a safe and happy holiday, Alex!
Peace,
ML
Mini Alex is adorable! He's like Flat Stanley, going all over to Paris. Lucky guy.
My favorite movie was Avengers this year.
I'm sure you'd have a blast co-writing a book.
Merry Christmas!
Helena, yeah! To heck with those critics.
Mark, that made me laugh!
Nancy, you are a wonderful person!
Elsie, don't let the IWSG scare you - it's an awesome group of people.
Merry Christmas, everyone!
Ready to kick off 2013 with the IWSG?
My post is already written and ready to launch. Can't wait! I love IWSG!
Did you see Mini Alex in Paris?
Yes. And I laughed my @$$ off. xD
How was your 2012 and what are your plans for 2013?
2012 turned out to be good in many ways. For 2013, my plans are to get my 3rd WIP finished, polished and published.
And what were some of your favorite movies this year?
Movie? What's that? LOL I'm nose down in my laptop most of the time. I barely even watch the news. But I enjoy them vicariously through you. ;)
Have a wonderful Christmas, Alex. You deserve it! :D
I still haven't seen Looper, but I'm dying too! This has been a great year. As I look back, I see how far I've come and how much there is to look forward to. Yay for 2012!
Merry Christmas to the shining star at the top of the blogging tree! Thanks so much for all you do. Here's to a great 2013!
Alex,
Congratulations on all of your success in 2012. You totally earned and deserved it! I hope that 2013 blesses you equally as much and I look forward to reading your wonderful updates in the new year. Enjoy your vacation! I will be doing the same :)
This truly was an amazing year here at Ninja's pod. I've enjoyed it very much. So gthankful for you, Alex. Have a wonderful, merry Christmas and a happy New Year. And no, you can't quit writing ;-) I have an idea for you. Seriously.
Looper is the only one I've seen, not bad, interesting ...
Terrific list. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you!
I made the mistake of watching Lockout, because of my love of Guy Pierce. Big mistake. He was a slight saving grace, but the story was terrible, and apparently the CGI effects were made by some 13 year old in his mother's basement back in 1997.
I enjoyed Looper, but Abraham Lincoln moved a little too slowly for my tastes. Now Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter, that was exciting! :)
Enjoy your time off and Merry Christmas.

Hope you and Mrs. C. enjoy the holidays. Enjoy your bloggy vacation!
Enjoy your break....and what a year, Congrats with your book success
Cheers to such an amazing year and happy wishes for next year to rock even more! Merry Christmas!
I'm a DC geek too. :)
I hope you have a fantastic holidays!
It was great to read your recap of the year. You've accomplished a lot of things!
Happy Holidays!
What doesn't Daniel Day Lewis play well? And concerning a couple of guys in my house - they would agree with the Avengers.
Happy holidays to you, Alex!
Wow, there was a lot in that post!
- You're taking time off! But I'm going to be off work and have more time for blogging! I know, it's all back to front.
- Love the mini Alex photo! Paris as well!
- I don't think I got to the cinema as much as I wanted to this year so I can't say what my favourite film has been. I do want to go and see the Alex Cross film though. (Crime fiction fan! :))
- I will start reading the Cassa series next year, obviously starting at the beginning. One of my aims is to widen my reading horizons. It must be a weird place coming to the end of a series and thinking of where to go next. I wish you all the best in whatever that is.
Have a great Christmas Alex and I'll see you in 2013!
Rock on, Alex. Blessings back to you for a wonderful Xmas and New Year's.
xoRobyn
Alex, you're the first author I've met who didn't intend to write in the first place and doesn't really care if he writes anymore now that he's published three novels. Frankly, I love your attitude and your intention to go with the flow. Best wishes for amazing success in whatever you choose to do next.
Melissa, you are good to go on January 2 then. And I'll keep you up to date on movies.
JA, great attitude!
Thank you, Betty!
Angela, tell me!!!
Beer for the Shower, you described the experience perfectly.
Cherie, good for you!
Rebecca, he is amazing.
Rebecca, thank you! I hope you enjoy them.
Patricia, hope it's a good attitude.
Thanks guys and Merry Christmas!
GREAT movie choices, Alex. I'd put The Avengers right up there, too. Amazing Spiderman, OH YEAH!! I'd add Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter. I know, I'm lame, but I LOVED that movie!! :)
Merry Christmas, my friend.
Great movie choices! I will be seeing The Hobbit tomorrow night! Woot! I know, too many !!! in a row.
Have a very happy holiday. Relax, kick back, we'll see you after the ALPACAlypse. XD
One of my favorite things to do is to stop, think, and look back on how certain decisions have led to results in life. I love the new year for its excitement and sense of accomplishment, as well as renewed energy. You definitely need to look back on this year as success, Alex. It has been a wild year! :D
I really need to pick up the Avengers for Christmas!
Have a wonderful holiday, Alex!
Merry Christmas, buddy.
Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Enjoy your break.
I have to get my movie watching up to speed- I have only seen one of the ones from your list. The good news- it was in your number one spot. :)
~Stephanie
Lynn, I still haven't seen it. Read the book though.
Mel, go enjoy!
Morgan, it's been beyond wild.
Cate, yes you do!

The Avengers and The Hobbit made it to my top favourite movies.
I think Byron will be an awesome centarian. ;)
Your movie list pretty much matches mine. Joss really nailed it this year.
May 2013 rock for you and your amazing Wonder Woman. :)
Have a great Christmas and a very happy new year!! Here's to a wonderful 2013!
Hi, Alex! My hubby went to see Lincoln and he said it was good. I'll see it when it comes out on DVD.
It sounds like Mini Alex had fun in Paris. I doubt he'd be bored at your place. : )
Merry Christmas! Look forward to reading your posts in 2013!
H Alex .. you'll need a Kate Beckinsale clone to read your comments soon! Next post I know ..
I loved Argo - and must see Lincoln sometime somewhere .. your endorsement of Looper confirms others views .. another to see sometime ..
You've had a brilliant year and I so congratulate you on your books - 2013 I will definitely be reading one, or two, or even three perhaps ..
Interesting projects you've got ahead .. thanks so much for all your encouragement and support during the year .. cheers Hilary
Hope you have a fantastic Christmas break! I don't think I have ever reviewed your posts before, but thought it would a good time too. Thank you for the Insecure Writer's Post. It is a true inspiration and you are really a fantastic person!
Movies, that is a toughie! I would have to say the top ones for me are Avengers, the Hobbit, and Wreck-it-Ralph. Fun and enjoyable movies that touched me on some emotional level.
MyMy, thank you! And hope you join us again for the Challenge.
Jack, that's good to hear!
Melissa, yes he did.
Same to you, Trisha!
Hilary, just wait until you see my Friday post...
Paige, I'm glad it's made a difference for you!
I hope you're having a fantastic holiday week.
Thanks for the breakdown on the movies.
I'll be ready for IWSG.
You rock Alex!
Just popping by to say Merry Christmas. Really looking forward to ISWG 2013 - I'm coming back with a vengeance - and I hope that there will be a book 4 of some kind - I'll miss your writing if not!
