Insecure Writer’s Support Group, Ninja News, and Two BIG Surprises!

It’s time for another group posting of the Insecure Writer’s Support Group! Time to release our fears to the world – or offer encouragement to those who are feeling neurotic. If you’d like to join us, click on the tab above and sign up. We post the first Wednesday of every month. (This month we are posting on Tuesday as well.) I encourage everyone to visit at least a dozen new blogs and leave a comment. Your words might be the encouragement someone needs.

By the time you read this, I will be a page or two away from finishing the first draft of CassaStorm. I’ll celebrate by playing Diablo all weekend. Hey, I’ve only killed him five times! One more and he’ll really be dead.

This story won’t be as simple as the other two. There are many subplots, some of which emerged as I wrote, so I need to go back and insert some scenes. (Yes, while everyone else uses a compacter on their manuscript, I use a tire pump.) It’s a little darker than the others as well. I’ll need to lighten things up here and there, maybe add more snark. (I don’t want a Dark Knight Rises, thanks!)

What is similar? It’s still all about the characters. The messages are simple and clear. (I’m not very subtle – you won’t miss them.) It’s still a space opera, low on tech. And its purpose is just to entertain and wrap up this series.

Someone else recently discussed finding our niche as writers, and I’ve definitely found mine. I write science fiction space opera that is very accessible. And I’m happy with that. Science fiction tends to turn people away because some of it is so high tech or hardcore. But I know so many people who’ve never read a science fiction book who read mine because it was accessible. That alone is far more than I ever hoped to accomplish!

Ultimately, I just hope you enjoy the third and final book of the series.

Just don’t ask me how a teleporter works, because I have no idea!

Please visit other members of the Insecure Writer’s Support Group! We have many new members. And remember, some people are on summer vacation.

Ninja News!

Medeia Sharif is holding a giveaway to mark her blog’s anniversary and the milestone of a hundred books read this year – visit her site for details.

You can get a free copy of chapter one of Shadow Spinner: "Part One: The Tunnel" by Andrew Leon from Amazon right now! "Part Two: The Kitchen Table" will be coming soon.

Stephen Tremp’s Blurbfest is Wednesday August 15 – check out his site for details!

For those of you with iPads, are you watching the Olympics as they happen? You can download the NBC London 2012 Live Extra app for free and see many of the events you won’t see on TV. (Like even more women’s beach volleyball!)

Two Big Surprises

Two things that surprised me this week. (Stunned, shocked - something along those lines!)

First, Sylvia Ney interviewed me a couple months ago and she just sent confirmation that it will appear in the November issue of Southern Writers. Whoa! I’ll be in a magazine. Yes, this Ninja is stunned…

Second big surprise! Someone posted about this great book she was reading about writing, publishing, and social media. And she said my name was mentioned! So I grabbed my iPad to check and sure enough – there I was in chapter three of How to be a Writer in the E-Age...and keep your e-sanity by Anne R. Allen, Catherine Ryan Hyde, and Saffina Desforges:

1) Focus on your genre or subgenre (unless you’re still experimenting with different genres.) You can discuss movies, videogames, TV shows, even jewelry and costumes – as long as they relate to your niche. A great example is SciFi writer Alex J. Cavanaugh’s super-popular blog that specializes in all things SciFi.

Double whoa! I had no idea. Thank you, Anne. Crap, need to inject some more science fiction into this blog now…

(And you can buy it HERE on Amazon!)

What’s your insecurity or accomplishment today? Watching the Olympics? Stunned I’m in a book and soon a magazine? (Humor me and say yes!)

  1. So a mention in a book and an interview in a magazine! That means you're a proper celebrity now??

Congrats on finishing your WIP - I love that feeling. I also love the editing!

  2. I can't believe I am second making a comment. Will definitely check out Media Sharif and congratulate her and will make a call on Stephen as well.

Congratulations Alex on the completion/ or almost of the first draft, it sounds exciting!

  3. Awesome work on appearing in the publishing book! Congrats on your draft as well. You must be super excited to wrap up the series too! Cheers!

  4. It is always tricky, writing accessible sci fi. I've had to do it before, writing comedy sci fi, and it's hard to remember that not everyone has read every sci fi book ever written.

    ReplyDelete
  5. Your name in a book? You have SO hit the big time! :D

    ReplyDelete
  6. Two wonderful surprises indeed and I don't know how the teleporter works, either.

Congrats on getting so much done.

    ReplyDelete
  7. Congratulations on finishing your first draft of CassaStorm. What an accomplishment. I'm glad you're happy in your genre choice. You're right about hard core sci-fi. It isn't accessible to all.
Thanks for all the other news as well. Go you turning up in magazines.

My post seems to be up this time after 2 false starts...

  8. Shouting at the TV and the crap commentary from the Olympic so called experts!

    ReplyDelete
  9. I'm the perfect example of someone who has never read a sci-fi book, so the Cassa series could probably make me a convert...
So now you're in a magazine... wow! What next? Maybe a cameo appearance in a movie about blogging? Who knows?

    ReplyDelete
  10. Congrats on the finish of your book! That's great news! I was wondering, how can I teleport from my job today? Just kidding :)

    ReplyDelete
  11. I'm also someone who doesn't read sci-fi - but the Cassa series is on my to-read list! Congrats on finishing your first draft of CassaStorm and the mentions in e-books and magazines - scoring goals all over the place! :-)

  12. Oh, I almost forgot... YAY to the London 2012 Live Extra i-Pad App and a bazillion YAYS!!!!!! to Olympic Gold Medalist, Chad Le Clos who is a homeboy! Actually he lives down the road... LOL

  13. Woot! Re: you progress with CassaStorm, and your magazine spot, too. Talk about awesome sauce... :D

  14. I think you've become famous! I think you deserve a gaming weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Look at you rock it out. Go Alex! Today, I'm moving forward (like always), holding my head high and trying to kick some butt with my writing. One day, one day.
I haven't seen much of the Olympics, but I saw the opening ceremonies. Paul McCartney was awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Congrats on almost finishing your book and your other good news. Awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Congratulations are EVERYTHING...finishing your book, and the mentions. You do a great job on your blog.

    Space Opera. I love it.

  18. Thanks, Annalisa - I'm something I guess!

    CM, you are second!

Clay, more happy than you know.

Stu, guess it's a good thing it's what I write.

Thanks, Denise and glad your post finally took.

Michelle, THAT would be scary! And I'd be honored if you read one of my books.

    Thank you, Cally!!

    Christine, go kick some butt!

Teresa, that's what it's called. And good to hear from you.

    Thanks everyone!
We have meetings this morning so I'll catch up on everyone's blog this afternoon.

  19. You've nearly finished the final book? Oh well done! I'm one of those people who don't read SF but I read and enjoy yours. I'm so glad you've found your niche, and I'm sure it's the right one. Congratulations on getting into a book and into a magazine. You've arrived!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Yay. How fun, you're in a magazine. Super cool!!!! Hope you enjoy the next book. The final book in my Wasteland Trilogy is in editing. It was tricky closing up all the ends of all the things that started popping up through the first two books. And, it's sad to say goodbye to the characters.

Happy Writing. Have a super day!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Yay! Hopefully by the time you read these comments you will be done writing. There's nothing at all wrong with writing that's accessible. There are a great deal of readers (myself included) who will read nothing else!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Oh I'm SO happy to hear you're almost finished CassaStorm's first draft! Dave will be thrilled to hear you're progressing so well!
And kudos to you on those lovely surprises - we all knew you were a big celeb, Alex - the only one who didn't know was you!!!

    ReplyDelete
  23. Congrats, Alex! That's awesome all around!

    ReplyDelete
  24. I not really follow the events of Olympic games as did it at 4-8-12 years ago and unfortunately my iPad at my kids, who are at my parents for this week. But, there are much more options to watch the games as we could do at the past.

Congrats on your progress the CassaStorm!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Congratulations on CassaStorm and your two other publications!!! A big day for you

    ReplyDelete
  26. I'm glad I'm not the only one who does this - "(Yes, while everyone else uses a compacter on their manuscript, I use a tire pump.)" :)

    Congratulations on...everything! :)

    ReplyDelete
  27. Shocked and a great amount of glory... congrats and success on all you should do! Work hard.. play hard!

    ReplyDelete
  28. You better check for paparazzi before you go down the shops. Ninja in the spotlight!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I thought you said you were a slow writer?!? That's amazing.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Too cool, Alex - congrats on the mentions! And on nearing the end of your manuscript. Wishing you few edits. :)

    ReplyDelete
  31. That is awesome, Alex! Congrats on getting to the end of your book too.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Congrats, Alex!! It's tough to say goodbye to the series. I'm reviewing the galley now for my final book of a series. I look forward to your final installment.

    ReplyDelete
  33. You do a lot of work around here, helping yourself as well as propping up others. You deserve the props for yourself. Thanks again.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Hooray for finishing Number Three! I like your tire pump analogy. I had a writing teacher who said, "Some people are 'putter inners' and some people are 'taker outers.'" I like tire pump better!

    ReplyDelete
  35. More story complexity in the next book sounds like it will be good. The magazine sounds prestigious so congratulations on that.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Awesome news about your third book. Can't wait to read it.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Congratulations, that's great! But I can't say I'm stunned, you are kind of awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Congratulations on the magazine spot! That's amazing.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Susan, glad you enjoyed it!

Lynn, there were a lot of ends to tie.

    LAN, that's good to know!

Cathy, tel Dave I'm writing as fast as I can.

    MadeLine, you understand!

Tasha, you've no idea how long it takes...

    Liza, I like that!

Thanks everyone. I'm still in shock.

    ReplyDelete
  41. what fabulous surprises Alex! Congrats! And another huge congrats on finishing up your next book! Awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Great news on all fronts Alex! Very excited for you!!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Congrats on the mention; it is well-deserved. The blog rocks!

As a writer who needs not only a trash compacter but a dumpster by my side when I revise, I must say I envy you and your revision tire pump. Great job on finishing the manuscript, and good luck with the revisions!

    ReplyDelete
  44. that's great, Alex!! Congrats on all accounts! :D

    ReplyDelete
  45. Awesome news with your first draft almost being complete and your name in a book! Congrats, Alex!!!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Awesome news!!! I'm not stunned because you totally deserve to be in a book and a magazine!
    Big Virtual HUGS!!!
Congrats on your finish of book 3!

    ReplyDelete
  47. Wow. A mention in a book and inclusion in a magazine. Watch out Kate Beckinsale might come knocking on your door ... or the IRS! Congrats on the 2 surprises!

A personal favorite died last night ... Gore Vidal, who said that to call Harold Robbins a writer was like calling a woodpecker a carpenter. I'll miss his wit.

    Have a great mid-week, Roland

    ReplyDelete
  48. Whoa - that is big time awesome. Getting talked about in books and magazines. Too cool.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Wow! Congrats on all the good news! Good for you! I could not agree more about the accessibility factor. Readers want something that keeps them glued to the pages, not something so complicated that their mind wanders or they get frustrated. I think you've got the right idea!

    ReplyDelete
  50. Double congrats Alex. I'm so running over to look into that book. I'm almost done with my first novel, ready (I hope ) to publsh in October. I'm....TERRIFIED (yes, it deserves the capitals). Once again, thanks for this terrific community. I met so many great peeps last month (my first) and it's all down to you. X

    ReplyDelete
  51. Kirsten, gets tiring with that pump though.

    Roland, I'll take Kate please!

Thanks, Lisa. I like to keep it simple.

Thanks guys! Back to crappy meetings...

  53. I accidentally junked my comment. Here it is

    I can't believe I'm 53 on making a comment; I was born in 53 and whenever I see 53 something great happens!

Congratulations, Alex on your achievements. You're a celebrity and I for one am hoping your good fortune rubs off on me.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Congrats on being in Southern Writers, Alex!!

Happy August IWSG. :)) I just finished my post.

I'm starting Camp NaNo today, so I'll be quiet on the blogosphere for the next month. As a reward, when I reach my daily word count, I'll creep around and visit IWSG blogs.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I'm stunned you'll be in a mag! (insert sarcasm) But really, congrats!!!! What an awesome surprise, both of them :)

And yay yay yay for CassaStorm! Sweet starships, am I excited for this one!!!

(tire pumps are used regularly on my manuscripts as well. You are not alone in that. :))

    ReplyDelete
  56. Yay for finishing your novel and playing Diablo! hehe
And congrats on your two big surprises! That's great ;)

    ReplyDelete
  57. Congrats Alex!! That is so awesome on all three things. Finishing your third book has to feel amazing and what nice surprises. You so deserve all the goodness! I almost forgot about ISWG today, posted but then remembered and updated. Whew! :-) Have a great day!

    ReplyDelete
  58. Awww, the Ninja Captain is escaping the blogging world in popularity!

Congrats on the proximity to your draft completion goal :) I actually get the need to use a tire pump -- my longer writing pieces are usually skimpy in places, too.

    ReplyDelete
  59. Thanks Alex for the shout out! ANd that's great your interview will be featured in a magazine and mentioned in a book. Very cool

    ReplyDelete
  60. WELL DESERVED!
Congrats! I hope there are more honorable mentions for you!
You make the blogging world fantastic for all of us!
    Thanks, Alex!

  61. Whoop! Fantastic Alex - a well deserved mention!

I never heard of space opera until I met you. :)

    ReplyDelete
  62. WOOT! That's some awesome news, Alex. I will humor you and say yes that I am stunned, although in truth I'm not because you're so awesome and deserving.

And congrats on the finished? first draft of CassaStorm! :)

    ReplyDelete
  63. Wow, Alex! You are famous now! Congrats on the mag article and honorable mention in the book. That's good advice about focusing on your genre/sub-genre. I never thought about blogging in that way. I wonder what kind of ghostly things I can come up with for my blog? And thanks for all the other updates as well:)

    ReplyDelete
  64. Yes, very stunned ;)
    Congratulations! You deserve it.
I love the Olympic and get very emotional watching. My kids are really enjoying the swimming, diving and gymnastics.
Yes, hubby enjoys the women's volleyball. Hey, can't blame him.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Finishing a WIP is always a great feeling. Even better when you have a contract. Play away this weekend :).

Congrats on being in a magazine. So cool.

Mommyhood has kept me swamped, but I'm starting to get back in the swing of things.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Wow, Alex! Big congrats to you on finishing your first draft and for being featured in a magazine and book.

    So cool!

    ReplyDelete
  67. Great to read what you're doing Alex. Keep writing and posting-- it's an encouragement.

    ReplyDelete
  68. You are indeed everywehre! Love it :)

    ReplyDelete
  69. I'm not stunned - you're big Alex, HUGE.

Enjoy the completed first draft celebration! And I'll pass the Olympic App info on to my husband - I owe him some women's beach volleyball after my not-so-subtle reaction to the interview with the men's swim team last night...while they were still in their suits. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  70. Well done, Alex! It feels so great to finish a first draft. *claps* You are awesome! I like how you said your books are accessible. I like sci-fi books like that. I'm smart, but not THAT smart to read super techy sci-fi. Accessible is my type. Thanks. :D

So "Space Opera". Does that mean it's like a soap opera but set in space? haha Love it!

    ReplyDelete
  71. First of all, I totally forgot it was IWSG day *facepalm*

Second, I love your grateful attitude! It's so important not to get our heads stuck in the clouds :)

    ReplyDelete
  72. I've downloaded both your books...looking forward to reading them :)-- finally the husband figured out the Kindle for me!

    ReplyDelete
  73. Fame and fortune come your way! Congratulations on the mentions in a book and a magazine.

    Happy Insecure Writers Day!

    ReplyDelete
  74. I think someone is going to take my nerd badge away. I haven't yet killed Diablo. I'm getting close. I think I'm one act away. I know...I'm slow.

Congratulations on being highlighted in the book and in the magazine. That's wonderful news. I guess you won't be a ninja for that much longer as your visibility will make it impossible for you to hide.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I'm so happy for you, Alex, to be so close to finishing! I can't wait to experience that feeling again. And double congrats for being included in that book! What an awesome surprise that must have been. But it's true & you are an inspiring success. Not surprised you're included in the magazine though. You are & always will be a Rock Star! Yes, I'm loving the Olympics & have that app for my iPhone, but the resolution is poor on the live feed, at least on my phone, so I stick to TV. And hey, thanks for your kind words of support today. They mean a lot to me!

    ReplyDelete
  76. Wow, congratulations on those two awesome surprises!! That's fantastic! And, congrats on finishing the first draft of CassaStorm, you must be so proud of getting to this point with your trilogy.

    ReplyDelete
  77. Congrats to finishing the first draft of CassaStorm. Thanks so much for creating the IWSG. It has been a tremendous help to me. Keep doing what you are doing. You have found your niche as a blogger and leader as well.

    ReplyDelete
  78. Congrats on the mention! You know you've arrived when you're sourced in a book. ;)

    J.W.

    ReplyDelete
  79. Joylene, that's awesome then!

Cassie, thanks and that's good to know.

Callie, I always worried it was just me.

    Stephen, you're welcome.

Talli, and I knew nothing about chick lit.

Gwen, there's lots of great tips in that book.

Marta, us guys just know what we like.

Hey Isis! Good to hear from you.

    Nicki, fair is fair.

Julia, thanks, and not sure exactly what it means beyond "Star Wars."

JA, I still know who I am - a geeky author with a blog.

Michael, thanks and don't want to lose the Ninja status!

Everyone - thanks! I am overwhelmed.

    ReplyDelete
  80. Congrats on that first draft of CassaStorm. Yay!! I know you'll inject the right amount of snark and humor. I don't mind the darkness, though. :)

A book AND a magazine! Holy guacamole you are a celebrity author, my friend. Next it will be TV. Seriously, congrats because you are a gift to writing community and you are where you are because of talent, being genuine and a pillar for the rest of us. Here's to you!

    ReplyDelete
  81. Congratulations! You are accomplishing what many just dream but don't do! You deserve more of thos esurprises as well

  83. "women’s beach volleyball!" snort :)

Congrats on the big-time mentions! You're a star!

    ReplyDelete
  84. Didn't I tell you that you are famous. See my crystal ball never lies.

Congrats, Alex on both the interview and completing the first draft.

    ReplyDelete
  85. I can't even envy your success (in a book AND magazine) because it's obvious you deserve it and have worked so hard.

    Nice to see this.

IWSG took me by surprise, so I'm off to write something and join the group. Thank you for hosting.

    ReplyDelete
  86. Thanks so much for the shout-out for How to be a Writer in the E-Age, Alex. You are a great example of how to be a successful blogger-author. Our book isn't just for self-publishers, and since I'm with a small press myself, I like to point out authors who are successful taking that "middle road."

And major congrats on finishing the 1st draft. That's one thrill that doesn't get old.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Cool about that mention! Pretty neat.

    ReplyDelete
  88. Sydney, I'm glad it's helped you!

Melissa, thanks. And no TV! I'd be a deer caught in headlights.

    Andrew, you're welcome.

    Carol, just being honest.

    Myrna, please join us!

    Anne, thank YOU!!!!!

    Thanks everyone!

    ReplyDelete
  89. Congrats on almost finishing the first draft. I'm highly jealous. I'm still plugging away on mine and getting nowhere fast.

I'm sure this third book will be just as popular as the others too. :)

    ReplyDelete
  90. Congrats on finishing the end of your book and hope the tweaking goes well. :) COngrats on the magazone write=up and the mention in the book. WOW! What wonderful surprises.

I like low tech sci-fi because I can understand it. No need to explain how a teleporter works- it is just crazy science, almost like magic. :)

  91. Congrats on finishing your WIP, and have fun with Diablo! And congrats on being mentioned! You deserve it!!

    ReplyDelete
  92. Congratulations on finishing your WIP and the other two blurbs!

You've worked hard to get those kudos, so allow yourself an extra minute of free time this week where you can bask in the sunlight!

    ReplyDelete
  93. A perfect trifecta. Congratulations, sounds like an amazing week.

    ReplyDelete
  94. Well, you know I love science fiction. My favorite show is Firefly, after all. ;)

Congratulations on all the achievements this week!

    ReplyDelete
  95. Congratulations on finishing Casastorm! And on the mentions -- you've done a LOT of hard work in building your web presence and you totally deserve the accolades for your blogging as well as your writing!

And enjoy the epic re-slaying of Diablo! It's funny, but it's totally like something I would do: After so many long hours grinding away in front of the computer, it's time to relax by: playing on the computer! LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  96. That's fantastic news on the magazine and book! And congratulations on nearly finishing the first draft of CassaStorm.

    ReplyDelete
  97. First of all this line made me laugh: "Yes, while everyone else uses a compacter on their manuscript, I use a tire pump."

Second of all, congratulations on the magazine and book, and finishing your draft. Enjoy Diablo this weekend.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Woo hoo, you're going to be in a magazine! How amazing is that? Not that I'm one bit surprised. :)

    ReplyDelete
  99. It just keeps getting better for you Captain. I am SOOOO happy to hear your news! All of it... Congrats!

Your modesty is never ending. You CAN pat yourself on the back every now and then, you know. WE all know how special you are, so why don't YOU? LOL.

The Olympics have been AMAZING. Thanks for the info on the app.

Leave to you to want to watch more woman's volleyball. LOL. I don't think it's the game you are so interested in. All that bouncing on the beach ... no, I don't mean the volleyball. LOL. Just kidding, Alex. LOL.

I actually have my post up on time this month. Thanks again for all your support. We ALL appreciate it.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Wow Alex, you are going outside into new dimensions...Congrats!

I'm late to the event today...yes, it had something to do with the weather, lol ;D

    Wow...Happy for you Captain! ATB

    ReplyDelete
  101. Awww, my very first question to you was to ask how a teleporter works! Drat.

Thanks for starting IWSG. I feel better already.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Wow, I feel kind of close to fame. Nothing like being held up as an example. Now you have to continue to live up to it. Did you write the third book much faster than the first two?

    ReplyDelete
  103. Yay on being almost done with your first draft. I am scrambling to get farther along in my polished draft. IN fact ... I need to go back to it.

Cool on appearing in a magazine and a book.

    ReplyDelete
  104. That's awesome about the book and magazine!!

Yay about CassaStorm! I'm with you about the tire pumping. I do the same. :)

    ReplyDelete
  105. Wow alex- congrats on your appearances, and well done on getting so far through your first draft - am already looking forward to book three, though sad it'll be the last!

    ReplyDelete
  106. Congrats on the surprises and on the first draft! Hurrah!

    ReplyDelete
  107. LG, it will happen!

    Jess, I promise I don't explain it.

Carrie, that makes you super cool!

Chris, isn't that always how it happens?

MJ, that's what I have to use - a tire pump.

Michael, I'm still just a geeky author with a blog. And yes, bouncing! More bikinis please.

Ella, does that mean I am in the Twilight Zone?

    Jeannette, sorry to disappoint!

Susan, about the same speed as the second one. Thank God for BuNo.

Thank you everyone! Back to blog reading. Only seventy more to go...

    ReplyDelete
  108. Congrats on finishing book 3! I'm a putter-in-er, "tire pump" writer as well:)

And congrats on all the mentions!

    ReplyDelete
  109. I bow to your awesomeness...congrats on both xo

    ReplyDelete
  110. I'm just checking a few blogs before I go to bed (I'm really tired today).

And what must I read: "By the time you read this, I will be a page or two away from finishing the first draft of CassaStorm."

    Awesome! Awesome! Awesome! Tha rocks!

I watch Olympics partially - It is always the decision between watching or reading a book.

Congratulations for the interview and the mentioning in the book.

  111. Great news about the new book finishing up, Alex! If you can get us an advanced copy when it's ready, we'll review it over at White Cat.

    ReplyDelete
  112. Congrats on the magazine Alex! That has got to be a good thing. Getting that name out there a bit.

    ReplyDelete
  113. That is SO cool you're mentioned in a book! Awesome!

    ReplyDelete
  114. I'm so impressed by your progress with writing CassaStorm. You shouldn't be feeling the least bit insecure this month.

    ReplyDelete
  115. Very interesting. I love the idea of the tire pump. Greetings.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Southern Writers? That is huge. Congrats on all the good news.

    ReplyDelete
  117. so how does it feel to be famous? I think I'd be flabbergasted, but secretly pleased :)

You deserve it Alex. And congrats on being only a page or so away from that finishing line!

    ReplyDelete
  118. Maybe by now CassaStorm is already done! If not - we know it's close! Congrats!

    ReplyDelete
  119. Laura, sorry but it has to end sometime.

Edi, working hard to make the last one the best!

Rick, I'll make sure my publisher knows!

Patricia, that will come next month...

    Leigh, working on it tonight.

    Thanks again everyone!

  120. Alex!! That is awesome! Yes, I'm shocked and stunned. :P Not really, but you said to say yes. XD

I can only hope to be as successful a blogger/writer as you. Someday... but you know it will always be a struggle, being a pirate and all. Hehe!

    ReplyDelete
  121. I'm not stunned, you do a great job on your blog, so you deserve any good stuff that comes along.

Your third book sounds interesting, Alex. Is Athee still in the story? I liked her in the second book.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Congrats! I love Anne R. Allen's helpful blog posts so much I put them in my social media lessons I teach to my local writers' group, Emerald Coast Writers. Guess I picked a good day to catch up on comments after getting back from Alaska. I did finally post the tunnel video. I think I mentioned before I'm probably the only writer too insecure to join the insecure writers' support group, LOL.

  123. Alex as you might guess I am anxious for the release of CassaStorm. It sounds like it may be your best work based on your description so far. What's the ETA?

Yep, watching all 1.2 billion hours of Olympic coverage. Funny you mention womens volley ball. When it's not 40-degrees out in London, watching this event on a large hi-def TV borders on soft-core porn...that you can watch with your wife! Those suits could not be one stitch smaller.

    ReplyDelete
  124. I'm not stunned you are in a book and soon magazine. This is just the beginning for you, Captain.

Congratulations on finishing (or almost finishing) your first draft, Alex. You're fast. I don't know how you do it. Have fun snarking away.

  125. Hey Alex,
Celebrity dude! And thus you are in a book. Not sure I would like to be stuck between the pages. Sorry, that was rather literal. And a magazine. I was featured in a magazine. Then again, do you read 'Better Gnomes and Gardens'?
Watching the Olympics with a choice of 24 additional BBC Olympic dedicated channels. Then again, we have to have a TV license. Heck, I haven't even passed the test!
    Right then, I'm outta' here...

  126. Mel, this Ninja will help the Pirate any way he can!

DG, yes she is! It's from three view points - Byron, Athee, and...

    Sher, you should join us!!

Chuck, and the cameramen focus tight on their butts!!! Not that I'm complaining. And I plan to deliver CassaStorm to my publisher late fall, so it's their call from that point.

    Robyn, but I'm really slow!

Gary, you are perfect for that magazine! And I do know about your TV license.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Congratulations on being in the magazine and the book! :)

Good for you on finding your niche.

    ReplyDelete
  128. I will be doing the insecure writer's group next month. Also congrats on finishing your first draft. You sure got it done fast.

    ReplyDelete
  134. Congratulations on the magazine interview!!

    ReplyDelete
  135. For a blogger celebrity, being a mag celebrity was the next in line...not shocked in the least bit.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Cindy thanks and please join us!

    Donna, I'll finish tonight!

Samantha, I still feel good about that as well. And glad you're enjoying the IWSG.

    Medeia, you're welcome.

    ReplyDelete
  141. I saw that post about you being in a book. That's awesome. It just goes to show that you're a good example and an inspiration for all! Congratulations on the magazine, too!

    ReplyDelete
  142. Congrats on your novel progress and the name drop in that 'how-to' book! It sounds like something I should read; the social media age is quite intimidating for me.

Sci-fi is usually over my head (unless it's the Twilight Zone type-stuff) but if your books are half as 'accessible" as you say, i'll check 'em out for sure!

    ReplyDelete
  143. You are full of surprises and they just keep coming :)Congrats on all your successes and have a great gaming week-end!

    ReplyDelete
  144. Go! wait until November for that interview.

    ReplyDelete
  145. Oh wow what fabulous surprises!
    Congrats well deserved.
Good luck with CassaStorm. I hope it also goes down a storm for you! ;O)

    ReplyDelete
  146. Wow, neat stuff...I really have to check out that Southern Writers article. I'll get my insecure post up by next week...I guess I'm just feeling really happy and secure right now:)

    ReplyDelete
  147. Congratulations Alex! We all feel your joy! That's fantastic...and, thanks for another great episode of IWSG...it's been an excellent adventure so far.

    ReplyDelete
  148. Thank you Sherry. Wish I could remember who posted it now.

    Thanks, Lass!!!!

Thanks, Insomniac. They are more about the characters than anything else. Science fiction is just the setting.

    Siv, thanks.

Leovi, I need to remember to pick up a copy of that magazine.

    Madeleine, almost finished.

    Mark, nothing wrong with that.

    Eve, glad you're enjoying it!

    ReplyDelete
  149. Alex, if you show up on TV you'll be the king of all media!

    ReplyDelete
  150. Hey, I'm a little late in posting my IWSG. I had some flight delays. We could have a "tall tale" excuse for not posting on time month! Although, mine is not a tall tale.

    ReplyDelete
  151. Congratulations on the magazine, the mention in the book and nearly finishing book three! I'm shattered just reading all that.

Loving the Olympics, it's just a shame I have to go to work during the day. I could sit on my sofa all day and watch it and get absolutely nothing done.

    ReplyDelete
  152. This post is full of all kinds of awesome! Congrats on the finished first draft (I'm assuming it is done by now! :)
And the mentions too! Too cool!

    ReplyDelete
  153. Congratulations on finishing your draft! (P.S. I'm embarrassed to ask: What is Diablo?? It sounds like a drinking game.)

Also, congratulations on all of the mentions. You are truly a super-star. It is well-deserved. :)

    ReplyDelete
  154. Finished draft? Check.
    Mention in a book? Check.
    Interview in a magazine? Check.

Alex, you never cease to amaze me! Congrats!

    ReplyDelete
  155. Far out Alex, on all counts. That you can visit us all, write a blog and finish a novel all at the same time is pretty darn... ahem, amazing!

    ReplyDelete
  156. Maurice, if you see a deer caught in headlights on the evening news, that will be me.

Mary, your excuse was very valid!

    Thanks, Rebecca.

    Thank you, Kelly.

Liz, it's a computer game. Drinking would just mess it up.

    Thank you, TL/

Bish, I am doing my best!

  157. I'm back.
It's so great to hear about all your brilliant and well-earned success. Storm sounds great too and I'm glad you've found your niche.

  162. Lynda, glad you are back! We missed you on Wednesday.

Julie, it's the best way to watch them.

    ReplyDelete
  165. Two very special mentions. CONGRATS, Alex!

    ReplyDelete
  166. Congrats on the big surprises and the wrap up of CassaStorm! I really need to move your books off my TBR list and into my hands. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  167. Hi Alex .. congratulations on finishing Cassastorm - guess you have by now! How was the Diablo?

Interesting point about your niche and thus making Sci-Fi accessible .. as Nicole says - I'm one step nearer getting myself sorted to buy and then read your books ... slow but sure!

Cheers - have a fun week .. Hilary
