CassaFire Tour Day Six, Hearththrob Blogfest, Ninja News, Pronunciations, and 80's Trivia!

One more week of partying – can you handle it?

Today’s stop is a fun piece at Under the Tiki Hut

I’ve followed Carol for a long time now (i.e. – I can’t remember when I didn’t follow her) and her posts are fun and lighthearted, like her Friday Top Ten. Guest posts on her site always revolve around the guest sitting under the Tiki Hut. Now, usually the beaches around the Tiki Hut are filled with men and strangely devoid of beautiful women. However, knowing the Ninja was coming, there’s been a slight change of scenery…

Under the Tiki Hut will never be the same!

Don’t forget that everyone who comments here on my blog over the next two weeks will be entered to win this cool prize package from my publisher. So be sure to comment every single day!

Today is the Teenage Heartthrob Blogfest hosted by Sarah and Vic

There was only one for me when I was a teenager – Buck Rogers’ star, Erin Grey!

Ninja News

Thanks to everyone who visited my stop on Friday at Michael’s SITE!

The best resource in the world for writing tips, promoting tips, and everything in between is Elizabeth Craig’s Writer’s Knowledge Base. More links to more articles than you can possibly imagine. I got lost in there Sunday afternoon…

Laura Eno’s new book, Immortal Desires, is out! Buy it on Amazon Congratulations, Laura!

Rachel Morgan’s new book, Guardian, comes out today. Congratulations, Rachel!!!

It’s Read an eBook Week! I’m doing my part…

The last stop in my tour will be with Sia McKye – and she posted her review of CassaFire last week HERE Thanks, Sia!

Very special shout out to Matthew at The QQQE Tina Life is Good. Matthew visited close to a hundred of my Catch Fire posts last Tuesday and one of his comments in particular was really special – thanks, dude! And Tina has been announcing my book and tour to every person who sends the A to Z Challenge blog an email – thanks so much! You are both just the best of friends.

Pronunciations

Several have asked how to pronounce the names in CassaFire. I tried to make everything simple, but here’s a guide:

Athee – Like the Goddess “Athena”, just leave off the “na”
Mevine – “meh-vine”
Tgren – “ta-grin” said quickly
Ernx – “Urnks”

Trivia answers from Friday:

1 – “Snakes. Why did it have to be snakes?” Raiders of the Lost Ark
2 – “Life moves pretty fast. If you don’t stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” Ferris Bueller’s Day Off
3 – “Charging a man with murder in this place was like handing out speeding tickets at the Indy 500.” Apocalypse Now
4 – “Son, your ego’s writing checks your body can’t cash.” Top Gun
5 – “What we have here is a failure to communicate.” Cool Hand Luke

Trivia Time – The 80’s!

1 – In what movie do we reach Ludicrous Speed?

2 – Name the creator of Calvin and Hobbes.

3 – This 1981 movie boasted the tagline “From the director of Animal House… a different kind of animal.”

4 – Name the quarterback who threw for 5000 yards in one season; a record held until this past year.

Whoa! Who was your teenage heartthrob? Been lost in the Writer’s Knowledge Base? Did you know how to pronounce those names correctly? How’d you do on last Friday’s trivia? And do you know any of today’s questions?

Now, go visit Carol at the awesome Under the Tiki Hut!

  2. No idea on today's questions. But I knew all of last Friday's, only on Friday I was absorbed in my move so I never checked in. Oh well, maybe I only think I knew them.

Good luck with 'the rest of' the party. It's been fun.

  11. I have saved the Writer's Knowledge Base...soon to become lost within that cache of information.

I'm old so my tv heart throbs were Leornard Nimoy, William Shatner(but his present day actons have ruined that for me) and the Adam Cartwright character. The big screens loves were Charles Bronson, Clint Eastwood, and, believe it or not, Yule Brenner!!!

Although, he is fading fast, Sam Elliot's voice can stop me across a room along with Morgan Freeman.

Strange the people who leave a life long impression on us.

    Continued success with your tour.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Just started reading CassaFire (it's my choice for read an ebook week) and so far so awesome. Kudos to you, Alex :D

    ReplyDelete
  13. Man. You're the master of fitting it all in. I was a little young for Erin Grey, but looking back, she was totally hot.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Congrats to Laura and Rachel!

The prize package looks great. I want the cup! :)

    Now off to Carol's blog...

  15. Your blog tour is amazing. And I'm amazed while you're doing it that you're still at about every blog I visit before me. You're amazing.

    ReplyDelete
  16. 1 - Spaceballs!!
    2 - Ooh, um, Calvin?
    3 - Geez - The Howling?
4 - Dan Marino, in '84 I think. 48 TD's that year. It was like Babe Ruth back in the day. Crazy numbers.

I'm off to the Tiki Hut!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Erin totally rocked on Buck Rogers. I wanted to be Col. Wilma Deering. Will be checking out Carol's blog. I love that you included a pronunciation guide for your characters. Can't tell you how many times I have just winged it because the writer chose complex names, but never gave thought to a pronunciation guide.

    Congrats to Laura and Rachel!

    More trivia? Too cool. :)

    1. Space Balls
    2. Bill Waterson
    3. An American Werewolf in London
    4. Dan Marino in 1984, I think.

    ReplyDelete
  18. I know the first one - Spaceballs.

And I though Gil Gerard was a hunk.

    ReplyDelete
  19. LOVED Calvin and Hobbs by Bill Watterson. As for teen heartthrob I didn't really have one, unless you count George Harrison.

    ReplyDelete
  20. I can't wait to see what the ninja did over at the Tiki Hut! Thanks for the tip on WKB. Just signed up for the emails. Looking forward to jumping back into the party this week! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  23. Talli, can't wait to visit your blog!

    Lurker, you got three.

Gail I can definitely understand Clint Eastwood. The dude is just all sorts of cool.

George, you still have a week to win it!

Natalie, the Ninja is on the prowl...

    Bish, you are correct.

Tracy, the Writer's Knowledge Base is just so full of stuff!

    Christine, Han did shoot first!

    ReplyDelete

Well, I pretty much only read e-books but still...

Lots of great news! See you around this week. I'm busy getting my A-to-Z posts done.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Ahh, yes...Erin Grey. Wise choice.

    Trivia!

    1. Spaceballs.
    2. Bill Watterson. (Thank you, Parks & Rec for reminding me of that.)
    3. I wanted to say Blues Brothers, but it's American Werewolf in London, I think. (Unless there's a little known film about Animal from The Muppets?)
    4. If it's not a Chicago Bear, I'm not sure I know the answer, though I'm pretty sure Jim McMahon never did that. Can I just shout the ones I know were QBs? Montana, Elway, Marino...that's the extent of my football knowledge.

    ReplyDelete
  27. My vacation head-haze is lifting so I stopping in to say hi. Congrats on the release of CassaFire!! Have a great week :))

    ReplyDelete
  28. I know zero answers to your trivia. Bummer.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Love the lines from the movies. I'd forgotten that one from Top Gun. Guess it is okay that I missed last Friday's post and didn't come to try to answer the trivia questions.

Enjoyed your post on Carol's blog.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Thanks for the shout out, Alex! And congrats to Laura!

    ReplyDelete
  31. I think I did know how to pronounce those names..for the most part.

    ReplyDelete

    Rachel, you're welcome!

Cindy, I did try to make it easy...

    Vic, thanks for hosting!

LG, Ryan Reynolds is there. Or me pretending to be Reynolds.

    Thanks, Emily!

    ReplyDelete
  37. 1 – Spaceballs

    2 – Bill Waterson

3 – An American Werewolf in London (John Landis is the director, he also directed Michael Jackson's Thriller video)

4 – Crap. I'm not a sports fan, and I'm not Googling these or reading prior comments. Joe Montana?

    ReplyDelete
  38. Sa-weet teen heartthrob choice. I was hoping to see more guys participate in this. Call me weird or crazy or whatever but I'm fascinated by the 'tastes' men have, lol.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Love the glossary, but love Erin gray even more. haha

    ReplyDelete
  40. I don't know any of those answers! Toughy! My heartthrob was Leo DiCaprio. Oh my. Yes...He was top of the list for quite a while as a teen.

    ReplyDelete
  41. You know my teenage from the 8's blogfest...just say Scientology and all will be revealed. :)
I think I know the answer to one as I have the comic book....Bill Watterson,
I sometimes have a problem pronouncing uncommon English names,
I listened to a recording to ensure I got your last name right. :D
    Good luck, on your touring.
I am should cut down on blog surfing(random blogs)since I have this habit of reading older posts too. Now, I have my April posts to write among other things and its so bloody hot our here ;(

    ReplyDelete
  42. Can't remember having any teenage heartthrob, those were the pronunciations I was using, and you've covered a lot here. I got kind of set back with blog visiting last week but I did make it to a few of the CassaFire Catch Fire posts. Someday I'll try to get lost in The Writer's Knowledge Base--love stuff like that.

I did know how to pronounce Athee.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Omg, I can totally see you in love with Erin Grey lol

    ReplyDelete
  45. I'm going to spend some time under the Tiki Hut, that relaxing ...

  46. Thanks for the shout out!
Han Solo. I wasn't a teenager but I still fell for him. :)

    ReplyDelete
  47. Alex, you are so funny! Of course you would pick someone from space to be your teen crush. I'm #5 in the Crush Hop and I actually picked real crushes to write about... names withheld.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Thanks for introducing Carol. I'm not sure if I visited her blog yet. Now I will.

    Laura, you're welcome!

Thanks everyone - know it was a lot today.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Just reread my comment with egg pic. Extra funny.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Don't forget, the rights to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are inalienable ... but the right to party, well we have to fight for that.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Spaceballs!!!!

Off to check out the Tiki Hut!

    ReplyDelete
  54. My son is currently enjoying the old Calvin/Hobbes books, but I forget the author. But teen heart-throb? I liked Corey Feldman, Christopher Daniel Barnes, probably Christian Bale if he was around (I think so). And probably Christian Slater, too. Oh, and ETHAN HAWKE!!!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Erin Gray was quite a cutie, but no one ever got close to Carrie Fisher. Not even Lynda Carter. And her eyes twinkled!

    ReplyDelete
  56. You know about everything! It's awesome. I hope I can become as good of a blogger as you. I love that you visit so many blogs each day. It's wonderful.

    ReplyDelete
  66. Hilary, Clint is a good pick!

Hope, your husband is a football fan then!

Cherie, I didn't want anyone to struggle.

    Brinda, that's her!

    4. this sounds like a Marino stat, him or Elway.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I use to watch Buck Rogers!
You know my heart throb is Captain Apollo
    I love your characters' names

    ReplyDelete
  69. for whatever reason, I was madly in love with Alicia Silverstone in my teens. She did play some weird alternate reality version of Batgirl. In said reality, Batman wasn't all that cool. It had to be a fictional universe or bizarro world.

    ReplyDelete
  70. Erin Gray was a hottie. And anyone who can wear an all white suit and still look good? Is a-okay in my book.

    ReplyDelete
  71. Marilyn Monroe of course!

I started your book! We're hitting the road again on Friday and I hope to finish it very soon.

    ReplyDelete
  72. My mind is totally blank on all the trivia questions, damn! I started your book too and it's fantastic. Heading over to the Tiki Hut now.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Where do you dig up this trivia stuff? You must keep a file on your computers . .

I haven't been by the Tiki Hut lately, but your interview is an excellent reason to visit.

Your posts, here and at other sites, have all been intriguing. Its been a great tour Alex.

    ......dhole

    ReplyDelete
  74. I still can't say most of those names but we're talking about me here. I can't speak correctly anyways.

Erin Gray - never heard of her but she's pretty!

    ReplyDelete
  75. Princess Ardala always seemed sexier. Ah, me and bad girls. Bill Watterson was a genius, wasn't he?

I am off to your next stop. Have only the highest sales!

    ReplyDelete
  76. Always annoying when they make a movie of a book and I realise I've been pronouncing the name wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  77. My teenage heart-throb was definitely Patrick Swazey!

    Off to visit Carole
    Lxxx

I do not know the other two as my knowledge of the director of Animal House is limited as is my knowledge of football.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Great Party Alex. Daniel is enjoying singing.....had the second part of his Nashville dvd which I was in the audience.

Look forward to you being here in the UK tomorrow at Talli's.

    ReplyDelete

    Hannah, good point!

    Pat, thanks!!

    Julie, glad you're enjoying it.

Thanks, Donna. Tried to make it unique.

Danielle, Buck Rogers was over thirty years ago.

Roland, she was hot as well, but just something about Erin...

Lynda, probably not so much anymore...

Mary, you got one right. Which hockey player?

    Jeremy, two right.

    Yvonne, it's a done deal.

    DL, what man wouldn't???

    ReplyDelete
  86. I love that quote from Raiders of the Lost Ark.
Erin Gray=- great pic and very you!
My pic would be C. Thomas Howell (among others). I follow him on Twitter. He amuses me.

    ReplyDelete
  87. I just watched a bunch of Buck Rodgers episodes on Netflix. How in the heck Erin Gray got into that costume is beyond me. I'm guessing cooking spray and a shoehorn! :)

    ReplyDelete
  88. Everyone is having a great time with you Under the Tiki Hut. Hmmm...that doesn't sound exactly right - LOL!

    Hope you're having fun, too!

    ReplyDelete
  89. Had my feet up the whole time they were in that snaky place in Raiders. Hate snakes.

    ReplyDelete
  90. How did I not know about this Tiki Hut with all the....trees?! On my way over to check it out now:)

    ReplyDelete
  91. Hey Alex,

Thanks for commenting, and you could always run a "You Know You're a Great Writer When..." series... we'd all read that :)

    ReplyDelete
  92. Wow, I don't know a single answer to the 80's quiz, yet I remember living through the decade...

Read an ebook a week? Would that I had time! Meanwhile, the hard copy To Read books are piling up at home... (including yours, Alex)

    ReplyDelete
  93. Good luck on the book tour, Alex :)

    Now for trivia:

    1). Back to the Future

    2). Bill W.

3). An American Werewolf in London

    4). Dan Marino

    ReplyDelete
  94. #2: Bill Watterson! I love Calvin and Hobbes. :)

    Heading off to Carol's blog.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Oh, Calvin and Hobbes!! I have mad love for them--Bill Watterson was the man behind that naughty little boy. And you are doing a fine job touring, I'm expecting any day now you will start busting up some blogs, throwing furniture and dumping bottles of Cristal on the floor like rock stars do.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Carrie, glad I could help you.

    Kelly, you Twitter stalker!

Adrianne, and just think - the camera adds weight!

still fun to read and recognize the trivia, but i'm so bad at it on the spot!

    ReplyDelete
  99. I am useless at this trivia! I once went for a job where I had to answer very obscure Australian trivia questions - it was a captioning job for television - and since I failed the trivia, I didn't get the job. But it was an interesting experience. ;)

    ReplyDelete
  100. I'm going with:

    1: Back to the Future
    2. No idea
    3. American Werewolf In London
    4. Dan Marino

    ReplyDelete
  101. Tara, the Schwartz was with you!

Trisha, that seems a bit harsh.

    Got three, Chuck!

    ReplyDelete
  102. Hey Alex,
My goodness, some serious scrolling down to get to the part where I actually get to leave one of my highly sought after and much loved comments.
Nice to note so many links and so much shared interaction within your articles.
And the record for passing yards in one season is held by Doug Flutie back in 1991, of 6619 yards whilst playing for the British Columbia Lions of the CFL.
Enjoy your day and happy writing.

    ReplyDelete
  103. As usual, I don't know any of the trivia questions. I can't remember having a heartthrob as a teen though many of my friends loved the Monkees, Rest in Peace, Davy Jones.

    ReplyDelete
  104. Klahanie, those were definitely the college and CFL records.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Just a quick "hello" as I'm heading over to Carol's hut! Julie

    ReplyDelete
  106. Holy heck. You put my multi-tasking to shame! You rock!

I didn't know what Buck Rogers was so I asked my hubby. LOL He said he liked the show. :D

    ReplyDelete
  107. I can't answer any of those questions either. It's blogger's fault. And I already have different pronunciations for Athee, though not very nice ones. =)
