Movie Reviews! Free books! Ninjas on Holiday!

Dogs and cats, living together – mass hysteria!

And this Ninja is going on holiday. (Rusty don’t panic when you don’t see my regular posts.) I won’t post again until after Christmas, although I will be lurking…

My guest post is now up at Daily Write, offering tips for writers who blog. Damyanti must think I know what I’m doing!

Today it’s my turn at the Debutante Ball: Feast of Debut Authors!

Before I dive into all that, I’ve got a couple movie reviews for you. Yeah, it’s been a while, hasn’t it?

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows
Like the first film, this movie is a lot of fun and full of great humor. The action set pieces were solid and I enjoyed the cat-and-mouse game between Holmes and Morarity. And of course, the interplay between Holmes and Watson is priceless. Another solid entry and I can’t wait for another Sherlock Holmes movie! Between this and Iron Man, Downey is set for life.

Arthur Christmas
The perfect Christmas movie for the kids, old and young! It was cute and laugh out loud funny. Really sweet spirit and message about dedication to a belief and to family. From the creators of Flushed Away and featuring the voices of James McAvoy, Hugh Laurie, and Bill Nighy. I actually liked it better than The Muppets. Take the kids and go!

Now the main feature! The Debutante Ball: Feast of Debut Authors is three weeks of giveaways – and today, I’m the highlight.

CassaStar

To pilot the fleet’s finest ship…
Few options remain for Byron, a talented young man with a troubled past and rebellious attitude. Slated to train as a Cosbolt pilot, Byron is determined to prove his worth and begin a new life. Much to his chagrin, Bassa, the toughest instructor in the fleet, takes notice of the young pilot. As war brews on the edge of space, Byron requires a navigator of exceptional quality to survive. Bassa must make a decision that could well decide the fate of both men. Will their skills be enough as they embark on a mission that may stretch their abilities to the limit?

“…calls to mind the youthful focus of Robert Heinlein’s early military sf, as well as the excitement of space opera epitomized by the many Star Wars novels. Fast-paced military action and a youthful protagonist make this a good choice for both young adult and adult fans of space wars.” - Library Journal

Available in all eBook forms and at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Amazon UK.

If sucked into CassaStar… I’d be Byron. (I mean really, who else who I be?) If made into a movie, Byron would be played by Chris Pine.

I'll probably wait for the DVD release of the Sherlock movie, but I haven't even heard of Arthur Christmas. It sounds like a good Christmas movie to get out of the house and watch.

Merry Christmas!
As Brinda, I'll probably wait for the DVD release, if I can convince my husband to watch it because he wasn't a fan of the first movie ;)

George Beremov [Nebular] said...

Arthur Christmas was absolutely fantastic and thoroughly amusing. I agree, it's the perfect Christmas family flick.

I'll see Holmes 2 next week and I hope it will be as good as the first one.

Will Burke said...

Have a great holiday! Cant wait to see Sherlock, and I'll post something about that soon. I'll give you notice when I do.

Happy Holidays Alex. Enjoy them. I definitely want to see the Holmes movie but will wait to rent it since my family does not seem interested in it.

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Brinda it's by the people who did Flushed Away - very sweet spirited.

Thanks, Lynn!

George, I thought it was just as good if not better.

Whoa. I've impressed myself to get here so early. *wink*

I will blog about it right now and tweet too. I do have one, but would love to give a copy away. Not my copy though, you understand.

I'm going on break today too. I'll be back January 9th. I hope you have a lovely Christmas, Alex.

Off to read your Ninja tips. *waving*

I meant to say that we loved Arthur Christmas. Arthur is so cool! Hmm, I'm thinking he could be sergeant in the Ninja army. :-)

Jeremy [Retro] said...

Who you going to call? Ghostbuster III... theme is in your head.

Great news from Alex Camp: NINJA, I need to watch Sherlock H again... I fell asleep the one time I did watch it. I am re-watching all the Marvel films to get me prepared for "The Avengers"... now I watched "Iron Man" twice cause I liked it that much.

Have a great day!

Jeremy

Hope you have the Merriest of Christmases.

Both movies on my list, but we'll see if they play here, may be Netflix.

Cassa Star is next up on my Kindle. Can't wait.

Rusty Carl said...

I'll try to keep it together. Thanks for the warning at least. Merry Christmas to you. I did see Sherlock Holmes this weekend. Agree with your review. Fun movie.

Mission Impossible was playing here at our local theater. But I think there was something special about it, the person if front of us in line got their tickets and then freaked out at the price. It was $60+ for two adults and a child... yikes.

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Robyn, you did it! And thanks. Have a wonderful Christmas.

Melissa, I want another one right now as well.

Jeremy, you got the quote!

Faraway, thank you - hope you enjoy it.

Rusty it was only playing in IMAX this past weekend - thus the scary ticket price. I'm waiting for the wide release on Friday.

Carolina M. Valdez Schneider said...

Loved Arthur Christmas! I've been wanting to see that Sherlock Holmes movie. Love me some Robert Downey.

J.C. Martin said...

Sherlock Holmes and Arthur Christmas are botoh on my to-watch list. Can't beat a butt-kicking, kung fu fighting Holmes! Robert Downey, Jr. is a martial arts practioner in real life, and it's thrilling to spot the Wing Chun moves in his fight scenes!

Ho, Boy, looking forward to the same movies you are, Iron Man 3 and the next Sherlock. And Star Trek w/the aforementioned Chris Pine.

Thanks for the review. R. Downey dressed in drag was disconcerting. (alliteration anyone?)

I agree with you about Downey as Sherlock with his updated Watson. Ironman, (I like comic book heroes, what can I say) and Sherlock - what's not to like about almost anything Sherlockian.

Escapism is good. I plan to see this new movie soon.

Would love to win a copy of your first book or the review copy of the new book. Sci-fi is my favorite genre, for reading and writing.

Happy Holidays, Alex, and best wishes for you, your family and CassaFire.

Oh, I so want to see this Sherlock. I think he does a fabulous job of playing the character and Holmes is perfect because when you read the book he's athletic and former military so he's by no means a wimp.

Wohoo! What an awesome giveaway. I never win any of these giveaways, but I'm an eternal optimist! I'll be tweeting this too. I looking forward to Sherlock Holmes, though I don't know when I'll find the time to watch it!
Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Merry Christmas to you too! Thanks for the Sherlock Holmes review. Was planning to see it already, but afraid they couldn't pull it off again. Such a mix of genres, in my opinion, and that can kill even a good plot. Glad to hear it was good.

I never saw the original Sherlock Holmes, for fear it would not live up to my expectations. Now I am thinking I should rent it and then go see the new one in theaters.

Oh, and I am always looking for blogging tips, always...

Husband, son and I all went to see Sherlock Holmes. Loved it. Some of the fast action showing how Holmes sees things before they actually happen went by too fast for me, but it sure gave you insight into his head.

I haven't been to a theater in months! hoping to get to a show over the holidays.

Sher A. Hart said...

Baygirl, I hope you do - there are so many movies out now.

Happy holidays to everyone. I hope to see more of you in the new year, and maybe even participate in your great projects now and again. FYI, I'm opening the Blog Book Tours blog for guest posts in 2012, so if you're touring a book, you have another blog to visit. More info in the new year. Alex, thanks for being such a great pal to us all!

I visited the Daily Write to read your guest blog post. Nice reminders. I think I follow 75% of these tips :) Have you seen "The Artist"? Are you going to review it? I'm definitely going to see it.
Merry Christmas!

Vicki Rocho said...

Glad to hear you liked Sherlock. I enjoyed the first one but just saw a less-than-nice review which bummed me out.

Can't believe CassaFire is coming out in Februrary -- that's right around the corner.

I really want to see Sherlock Holmes! I loved the first one, but it was a toss-up between Sherlock and Ghost Protocol so the hubby and I ended up seeing that one last night. Fantastic movie, btw. There were some serious OMFG moments in there.

Ella said...

So glad you had funny at the movies!

Chris Pine, love him...

Merry Christmas to you n' yours!!!

Happy Holidays Alex! Congrats on your win of the 411 awards fest. I'm really looking forward to Holmes. I like the chemistry between Downey and Jude Law.

Can't wait to see Sherlock Holmes movie. Look how many comments you have Alex. Either you're good or a lot of people want that book, the former I think. It's been great finding you this year. Wishing you a spectacular holiday season!

Hey Claudia! Thanks for reading my guest post. Sorry, The Artist isn't on my list - I still have to cram in four more movies this year.

Vicki, ignore the critics - just as good as the first one! And don't scare me like that. I know, only two more months!

RaShelle, you take the kids!

Jasmine, catching that one next!

Merry Christmas, Ella.

MsMariah, tried my best for you and wish you'd won.

Thanks, Yonks! Well, this post has been up for a few days, so that's a lot of it. I normally only get about a hundred and twenty comments per post.

I have not seen Sherlock Holmes yet and I don't know why. I want to see it but when I get to the theater, I'm never in the mood. I did watch Girl with the Dragon Tattoo--an amazing movie but very graphic violence.

I am so excited that your sequel is coming! Curious how you ended up dealing with romantic elements. Guess I'll have to wait and see ;)

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Angela, I saw the original version and it was very graphic. And I had a little help with the relationship stuff!

I hate to say this but I haven't seen the first Holmes yet. Something I need to fix for 2012 by seeing both because I love RDJ. Been on my to do list but just haven't gotten around to-doing it.

None of those movies on your latest post thrilled me. Even the SF wasn't a type I'd like, but here we have both a movie I want to watch, Sherlock Holmes, and a book I want to read and review, yours. I'm in! It's a little late to blog, but I'll sure tweet it and post on google+ and FB. Reading Indie author books is where the bulk of my reading time goes these days.

Always the late comer but here I am...:)

Am crossing my fingers! I wish Santa a copy of Cassastar! This is a long overdue wish!

Good luck Alex! You cool Ninja really rocks!
