Mission Impossible: Fallout Review, Movie Trailers and News, and Tons Happening with the IWSG!

Mission Impossible: Fallout Review

After a botched mission, Ethan and his team must acquire three plutonium cores before a group known as the Apostles get them and detonate nuclear bombs.
And wow! Talk about upping the intense action. You want edge-of-your-seat thrills, this is the film for you. The last thirty minutes will have you gasping. Just when you think all is lost and it’s impossible, it becomes even more impossible.
The stunts are mind blowing. Cruise really did injure himself doing some of his own stunts. The chase involving the motorcycle makes you wonder – did he really just run into that car? The special effects are flawless and you really can’t tell what is a stunt and what involved green screen.
The European settings are beautiful, and when they venture into Asia, it’s even more stunning.
Just about everyone returns for this film, with many familiar faces and a few new ones. Henry Cavill (and his moustache) is a CIA agent who joins them and relative newcomer Vanessa Kirby plays the White Widow.
This series continues to turn in solid films and can keep going for as long as Cruise can pull it off.
Highly recommended!

Movie Trailers and News

Here are some recent movie trailers:

I am so stoked about this one!

Such a great mix of war and horror!

When this was first announced, I had my doubts, as I really enjoyed the original anime. But it’s shaping up to be one amazing movie.

Looks wicked!

JoBlo has a weekly feature – The Best Movie You Never Saw.
Last week, it was Ladyhawke.
I did go see it when the film was released in 1985. (It started a crush on Michelle Pfeiffer that lasted for years.) Sadly the film got lost at the box office.
If you’ve never seen it, you need to check it out.

Ready for some Guardians of the Galaxy bloopers?

Insecure Writer’s Support Group

Another great posting last week! A few people were missing, but it is summer after all.

One member in particular was feeling very down and on the verge of giving up. She really needs some encouragement - Amelia Guilliam.

Don't forget, the IWSG is on Instagram.
Here is the schedule for August:

The IWSG Anthology Contest opens for submissions on September 5.

The genre is Young Adult Romance and the theme is Masquerade.

See the site for full details.

We’re excited about the WEP – Write-Edit-Publish and IWSG partnership.

The August WEP Challenge is A Change of Heart.

Visit their site for full details.

And we are changing up some of the themed days in the IWSG Facebook Group.
You can read about it at the IWSG Site.

Have you seen the latest Mission Impossible? Any of those trailers look enticing? Seen Ladyhawke? Entering the IWSG Anthology Contest? (This year you have an extra month to write!) Participating in WEP? And who’s ready to see Jason Statham punch a shark in The Meg this Friday?

Wow, lots of trailers! Of these, I've noticed quite a bit of hype for Alita: Battle Angel on Twitter. Definitely seems like something people are looking forward to.

I think/hope I have left Amelia an encouraging comment. This reader is so very grateful to writers.
And yes, I am playing WEP.

Well, I'm one of those who still has a crush on Michelle Pfeiffer. :)

And on WEP. And writers in general. A totally crushworthy lot!

I might well catch Meg at some point! I'll hop on by Amelia's and see if I can offer a word of encouragement too.

Hi, Alex!

Thanks for the encouraging review of Mission Impossible: Fallout. I'm stoked! I appreciate the art of the film trailer. The trailers you posted were masterfully edited and wall-to-wall awesome. They hooked me. I want to see the movies. Mission Accomplished!

Have a great week, good buddy Alex!

Mason Canyon said...

Now I definitely want to see Mission Impossible. Sounds like it will be a blast.

Elizabeth Spann Craig said...

The fact that Cruise did his own stunts makes me want to see it more.

I like the idea of the weekly "Best Movie You Never Saw." Will check it out!

Pat Hatt said...

I'll wait fir Netflix to see him punch a shark haha Never even heard of Ladyhawke before. Looks interesting indeed. Lots going on with IWSG indeed, fine way to be.

Joanne said...

MI - Fallout was awesome indeed. Glad you agreed with me. Ladyhawke was a good flick and I've always had a crush on Michelle (!). Go see the little film Eight Grade - quiet good filmmaking. Trust me.

Have a Mega Week. Doubt I'll see it.

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Elephant's Child, thank you.

Thanks, Suzanne!

Shady, go and enjoy the film.

Elizabeth, I think it's fairly new. I'll be looking for it every week now.

Pat, never? It's a great film.

Joanne, your review nailed it.

I can't even remember the last Mission Impossible movie I saw! It's been awhile....

IWSG was fun last week!

Sandra Almazan said...

I'm not into the Mission Impossible genre, but your review makes it sound appealing!

Stacy McKitrick said...

Ladyhawke is one of my FAVORITE movies. Even with all the moon mistakes.
I like the Mission Impossible series, but am sadly behind (as I am for a few movie series). One of these days I may have to binge-watch them on DVD.
The MEG has captured my attention and I ordered the book today (love reading before watching).

L. Diane Wolfe said...

Ladyhawke was a beautiful film.

I'm looking forward to Godzilla.

Truedessa said...

I saw Mission Impossible it was intense/riveting and action packed. I would recommend it as well. Tom Cruise delivered as an actor.

I still have not seen Ladyhawke, where can I find that film Alex?

Have a great week!

Patricia Stoltey said...

Nothing in the trailer list appeals to me at the moment. I'm wishing for some new good comedy that's not full of potty jokes and a couple of good thrillers that don't force you to sit through long, graphic sex scenes. I think I'm getting cranky in my old age. :D

Carol Kilgore said...

I've heard nothing but good things about the new Mission Impossible. Looking forward to seeing it. Happy August :)

Birgit said...

I love Ladyhawke and own the DVD! It’s a great movie. Godzilla looks great and Mothra is in it but so is Rodan...I think that’s supposed to be Rodan?? The Angel movie looks interesting especially that Christoph Waltz is in it. It looks like the female lead is basically computer generated which I don’t care for. I really want to see this MI film and heard nothing but raves for it. I will visit the gal and offer some inspiration.

DMS said...

I haven't seen the latest Mission Impossible- but I have heard it is amazing from everyone I know who has seen it. That says a lot!

My husband and I got to sneak away to watch MI:Fallout last Tuesday, in IMAX. It was loads of fun and super exciting.

I thought it was interesting how Alita in the trailer had oversized eyes, like how they often do in anime.

Hilary Melton-Butcher said...

Hi Alex - lots to see and get us out of this heat. I expect I'll end up seeing one or two. And lots happening ... so glad WEP and IWSG are teaming up - good writers and bloggers to be found amongst the leaders/amins. I've been to Amelia and hope she'll keep writing ... cheers Hilary

Liz A. said...

I thought summer was almost over. That's a lot of trailers...

Ladyhawke... Please. I've seen that movie so many times. It's one of my mother's favorites. (That and Godfather. I kid you not.)

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Stacy, now I want to watch it again for the moon mistakes.

Truedessa, check NetFlix or Amazon Prime. Someone should be streaming it.

Patricia, no sex scenes in MI:Fallout.

Birgit, that is Rodan - and Ghidorah! The lead in Battle Angel is a real person and they altered her some.

Liz, interesting combination.

Botanist said...

I'll probably see the new MI movie eventually. I used to love the original (1966) TV series for its ingenuity. The movies have evolved a long way from those days :)

Yolanda Renée said...

I am thrilled to see another Godzilla movie, but the premise strikes me as a bit sketchy! LOL

Still love the reviews, and all the exciting news.

Thanks, Alex, and Denise, for making the WEP / IWSG collaboration happen, so wonderful!

Andrew Leon said...

I don't think I've seen a single MI movie at the theater.
But my daughter wants to see this one, so I may end up going.

Sherry Fundin said...

That's funny that you posted about Mission Impossible. I got on a TV binge yesterday and watched two of them. Used to watch the old stuff too.

Okay, now you make me want to watch the new Mission Impossible movie. Take care.

Rhonda Albom said...

I am a Mission Impossible fan, but haven't seen the new one yet. I am not even sure it is in New Zealand yet. But it will be on my list.

J E Oneil said...

Please tell me there's not another live action anime adaptation with an all white cast. It would be nice for there to be at least one...

Sandra Cox said...

Godzilla does look good!
It has always amazed me that Cruise does his own stunts.
YOU, have a productive day and pleasant evening.

Sandra Cox said...

PS. Heading over to Amelia's. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. We've all been there.

John Wiswell said...

The reviews of the new Mission Impossible are staggering. I guess I have to see this!

A heads-up: that Captain Marvel trailer is fanmade. Marvel hasn't put one out yet.

Juneta Key said...

Loved LadyHawke. I own a copy of it. Looking forward to the new Mission Impossible. Godzilla looked interesting maybe a different take on it again. My favorite take on Godzilla to date so far is the one starring Matthew Broderick 1998. I own this one too, lol. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Cg46irSY5A.

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Ian, I don't believe they did as many crazy stunts in the series.

Yolanda, they are awakening four classic monsters. That's enough for me!

Rhonda, don't miss it when it gets there.

JE, if you count the amount of Hispanics in the film white...

Sandra, thanks for visiting her.

John, it still looks good though.

Roland Clarke said...

Just attempted my first WEP post - it's a great tie-up with IWSG.

As always you deliver all the best previews. Alex.

Alita: Battle Angel and Captain Marvel are on my 'Must Try To See' list, but that will probably be when they get to Blue-ray. (Wheelchairs & cinemas don't mix too well.)

kaykuala said...

Mission Impossible should bring back memories of the TV series. Interesting to know Tom Cruise did his own stunts and suffered a little apparently. Captain Marvel seems a little different from that of the 50's, the first Super Hero then

Patricia Lynne said...

Oooo. There's a few trailers I hadn't known were out and will have to watch.

Elizabeth said...

I was really excited when I saw the words "Captain Marvel", but then I saw the part about "not an official trailer"...drat!

I'm ready for Infinity War to come out on Bluray next week so I can watch it again and again, and overanalyze everything :)

nashvillecats2 said...

WOW, many trailers to get through, all exceedingly good.
Enjoyed the post Alex.

Jeremy Hawkins said...

MISSION, I chose to except it... loved it. I enjoy how the story and characters have evolved. I am not feeling "VENOM" I enjoy Hardy for sure, but the trailers are pushing me away... though THE MEG, loving the trailer for sure...

Lots of great things happening in the world, your site and film... may it be a great month.

Sherry Ellis said...

I've often wondered how many stunt people get hurt doing those tricks. It doesn't surprise me that Cruise was injured.

I'd like to see Statham punch the shark. That would probably be funny. Little guy vs. big shark. Wonder who would win that one?

Magical Mystical Mimi said...

I'm not a huge Tom Cruise fan but I really want to see this movie! I love edge of your seat action. - Thanks for the review, Alex. Happy Tuesday!

Pat Tillett said...

Hi Alex! Thanks for the MI review. I'm not a fan of Tom Cruise, but I'm going to see this movie for sure.

Venom! Oh my! I will also be seeing that movie. The trailer was intense!

Arlee Bird said...

There have been so many Godzilla films, but there's room for another if it's a good one. I can remember going to see the American version with Raymond Burr when it was first released. I recall that my Dad was with us which seems unusual since he usually wanted to see show biz movies and Bible spectaculars.

I heard somewhere else that Mission Impossible is supposed to be good. But I had to take in Transylvania 3 this week instead (kids :) ) and I actually laughed a time or too. Love the anthology theme, although I'm skipping out this time. Have a great week!

Crystal Collier said...

We're going to see Mission Impossible tonight, and I'm super glad you enjoyed it. Gives me hope. Some of these movies get a bit ridiculous, and I was hoping it wasn't over the top.

Patsy said...

I haven't seen the latest Mission Impossible, but that series is one of the few high action films I like, so I probably will.

Michael Offutt, Phantom Reader said...

Mission:Impossible Fallout kind of ruined action movies for me. I won't ever be able to look at another in the same way. Cruise (keep in mind that I don't really like him as an actor) has set the bar so high with personal stunts that it's honestly mind-blowing. This movie was incredible, and the long shot with the helicopter is just one small part of it (and you don't see that in any other movie). I think Cruise may have a death wish to just get killed while filming a Mission Impossible movie...a statement to the ultimate dedication an actor has for his craft. I don't know. Again, I don't really like Cruise but I keep giving him my money because I love his movies.

Mission Impossible is a game-changer in the same way the Matrix and the original Alien and the original Star Wars were. Nothing else that follows will ever be looked at in the same way.

mshatch said...

I loved Ladyhawke. Haven't seen MI whatever but I've heard lots of good reviews. I can't believe Cruise still does his own stunts. I'm surprised the studio lets him. After all, he's worth a lot of money - as long as he's not broken!

Sandra Cox said...

I LOVED Ladyhawke. Wasn't it the most amazing movie ever? I'm going to have to find it and rewatch it. I can still remember my brother saying, "Well, it's not very believable." But then again he's more into shootouts and fast car movies:) Grin. I thought it was great.

The Happy Whisk said...

I'm afraid of sharks.
Happy rest of your summer, Alex.

Spacer Guy said...

Venom - what a face. Godzilla truly is the king of monsters. Is Alita an alpha? These movies get my vote, I'll have to try and see them now.

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Elizabeth, sorry!

Jeremy, just hoping for a review of The Meg to show up soon.

Sherry, Statham every time...

Lee, amazing you saw it in the theaters.

Crystal, it's still stretching it, but not completely over the top.

Michael, I don't like him as a person either, but the dude knows how to make movies.

Sandra, like that is believable!

Magic Love Crow said...

I can't wait to see Mission Impossible! I think Tom is brilliant in this character! Especially when he does his own stunts! Love the bloopers! LOL! too funny!
Did you see the clip of Tom and and James Corden, flying out of the plane? That was hilarious!
Take Care, Alex!

Kim Lajevardi said...

I don't currently have plans to see any new movies, but that's because I'm gearing back up to go back to work.

Sandra Cox said...

War Lord looks really well done. Maybe a tad too intense for me.
YOU, have a productive day and pleasant evening.

I'm sure you won't be surprised when I say that I didn't see MI but my hubby did. He loved it of course. I'm not surprised we had people missing from IWSG with it being summertime and all. I'll be taking off for a couple of weeks too. Don't worry though, I'll be back in time for the next IWSG! :)

SOOO glad to hear that Mission Impossible is living up to the hype! That's on our list.

Godzilla trailer looks cool, even though at first it started out (seemingly) as a global warming lecture.

Susan Kane said...

We were exhausted after the MIF movie. How could Cruise not hurt something somewhere down the line?

Ladyhawke? the only one I can think of is with Rutger Hauer. A new one?

Oh yes. I will be watching Statham kick some shark butt.

Michael Di Gesu said...

Hi, Alex,

WOW.... didn't know that IWSG was on Instagram too.... SO much going on!

Really like the new theme for the Anthology..... GOOD LUCK EVERYONE!

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Magic Love Crow, I will have to look for that.

Elsie, good!

Liz, be interesting to see what they do with it.

Susan, no new one - he's talking about the one with Rutger Hauer.

Michael, you should participate!

That's really nice that you gave Amelia a mention. I'll definitely drop by with some words of encouragement.

As for Mission Impossible, any time I hear Tom Cruise is in a movie, I immediately lose interest in seeing it. :P
