Invasion of the B Movies! Plus Insomnium Album Review and Ninja News

Insomnium – Shadows of the Dying Sun

This Finnish, melodic death metal band just gets better and better. I was a huge fan of their last album, One For Sorrow. This one is definitely a progression of their music, and expertly balanced beautiful and brutal.

I’d list the standout tracks, but there are too many to mention. The music is soaring and epic. The singing wavers between growling, screaming, and singing, but it never overpowers the music.

These guys are HUGE in Finland, and their albums shoot to the top of the charts every time.

If you want more from your metal, check out Insomnium!

Invasion of the B Movies!

MsMariah posted a link to this blogfest, and it looked like fun. Hosted by Girl Meets Cinema, we are to choose a super cheesy blockbuster B-rated movie, post why we love it, and include pictures.

My choice – Deep Rising!

What’s not to dig about this over-the-top horror-monster thriller? A group of hijackers have chartered a boat and intend on robbing a stranded cruise ship, but giant, deep-sea creatures have got there first…

There are so many great one-liners and funny dialogue. Treat Williams and Kevin O’Connor are both hysterical.

In a scene where O’Conner and Wes Studi are being chased by the giant creatures:
Studi: The only way to slow ‘em down is to feed ‘em!
O’Conner: FEED ‘EM? The only thing I got is a wet stick of gum and a breath mint!

Famke Janssen is sexy (of course) as Trillion the thief.

The film is also unbelievably gory.

Directed by Stephen Sommers, Deep Rising is a fun, cheesy popcorn flick!

Have you listened to Insomnium? Participating in the A to Z Road Trip? Excited about new books? And what cheesy B film do you really dig…?

I am back to my Monday only (with IWSG Wednesday) schedule now. I will also be taking some time off during the week from blogging while I complete and edit my current manuscript. If I miss anything awesome, please send me an email! And yes, I did enjoy a few days off this past weekend.

And I just found out this morning from Nancy Thompson that CassaStorm was nominated in Science Fiction for the eFestival of Words 2014 Best of the Independent eBook Awards!!!!

I should have gotten to the Blitz early, it took me a long time just to scroll to the bottom of the comments! How do you have time for B movies? I don't even get throughout a short selection from the A's.

Susan Flett Swiderski said...

Just what ya need... MORE comments, eh? HA! Happy Blitz Day!

Favorite cheesy flick? "Cat People"... a horror movie with an amazing soundtrack... slow, sinuous (cat-like?) music with lots of bass and the deep deep voice of David Bowie. There was another movie we watched years ago with friends on late late late night TV... a Japanese-made movies, dubbed to make the story seem to be about a prized egg salad recipe. It was hilarious.

Deep Rising is now on my list of cheesy movies I need to watch. Galaxy Quest and Scott Pilgrim were my two choices.

We find that any film with Dean Cain or Karen Allen (These are the current films, of course) is going to be bad. Casts of 12, shot from 10 - 4 pm, cheesy music, poor graphics.

There are many many B- movies out there, but you caught me on a low brain day.

Sometimes.. when I'm really busy.. I intentionally don't visit your blog because you always talk about so many awesome books. It makes me sad to see all the things I'd like to read but CAN'T.
Happy Blitz Day, super awesome ninja co-host man!

Wow, that's quite the round up of information! I've never been much for death metal, but it's cool that you can get so much out of it :) Thanks for all the links to check out!

OH MY GOSH - I am so psyched to see your review of Insomnium! I'm half Finnish myself, and I have a friend who WANTS to be Finnish (needless to say he is very jealous of me), so he listens to a lot of Finnish metal bands. I'm not sure if he knows of Insomnium, but he is definitely a fan of Finntroll and Korpiklaani! Thanks for the smile - and HAPPY BLITZ DAY!!! :o)

Congratulations on the Best of the Independent eBook Awards nomination, and Happy Blitz Day! My own personal favorite B movie (well, actually, it's probably a D) would be Attack of the Killer Tomatoes. I am in awe of such cheese (and it goes well with the tomatoes).

Hi human, Alex,

Apawlogies for my delay in getting here. A combination of sore paws and a very slow computer.

I shall check out Insomnium. My human likes metal music.

Thanks for all those notations on all those people. Many of which we have also noted on other sites. All good stuff.

Of course, the amazing alphabet Road Trip ended up at a gigantic convention centre in Blogbank.

Truly outstanding news about your nomination. I still don't know where you find the time to even write a book. Don't you sleep?

Penny.

As far as B-movies go, there are too many to mention, but I recently had a nostalgic conversation about Mack and Me. I'd totally forgotten about that movie. It's not your typical B-movie but I think it'll do.

Alex congratulations on the nomination. I thought I had read this and left a comment but, today
I do not see it here. Hmm..perhaps a bit of deja vu going on for me today.

I am looking for a good fantasy romance movie any thoughts?

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Jaybird, I have been taking a break this week.

Cynthia, you will have to ask them!

David, so can I.

Truedessa, you did leave a comment - only the first two hundred show, then you have to click on 'newest' to access the next batch of two hundred.
Best fantasy romance is The Princess Bride. I'd also recommend Ladyhawke.
