Star Trek Movies Ranked, Nolan’s Interstellar, Fuller’s High Moon, Spaceship Trivia, and Ninja News!

Science Fiction News

Caught this on Blastr. Fans at Creation Entertainment's Star Trek Convention in Las Vegas ranked Trek movie from best to worst. Below are the results, from best to worst:

As a die-hard Trek fan, that really surprised me. I would flip the first two around (First Contact will always be my favorite) but I’d rank Into Darkness much higher. I’ll have to see it again, but I’d probably place it third. I won’t even protest the inclusion of Galaxy Quest, because that film just rocked. What do you guys think of the ranking?

Principal photography began on Christopher Nolan’s next film, Interstellar. According to JoBlo, “The new script chronicles the adventures of a group of explorers who make use of a newly discovered wormhole to surpass the limitations on human space travel and conquer the vast distances involved in an interstellar voyage.”
The film will star Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, John Lithgow, Casey Affleck, Michael Caine, Jessica Chastain, and Bill Irwin. It’s set for release November 7, 2014.Yes, I'm excited!

Bryan Fuller’s new science fiction series, High Moon, announced the leads - Chris Diamantopoulos and Jake Sandvig. According to Blastr, it picks up “in a future where many countries have occupied the moon to mine its resources, things somehow go haywire when a new form of life is discovered. The series is loosely based on John Christopher's novel The Lotus Caves. The two will star as a federal investigator and a convict working out hard time, respectively.”
SyFy usually produces good series. Now, if only they could spare more than a hundred bucks for their original movies…

Ninja News

The CK Reader Giveaway continues until Saturday! It’s featured on both CK Readers Giveaway on Facebook and on Ciara Knight’s blog. It’s a mixture of my journey with the series and quotes from the books. And there are prizes!

Robyn Campbell recently switched to Disqus comments and then tried to switch back and is having problems. If anyone here can help her restore her Blogger comment box, please visit her!

Brandon Ax’s latest book is available now – Ashes!
He’s also running a contest with some cool prizes – that starts August 20. See his site for details.
Congratulations, Brandon!

Last week I noticed there were a lot of IWSG posts from people who weren’t on the list. My apologies that I can’t contact every individual personally, but here’s a partial list: TF Walsh, Scribbles from Jenn, Charmaine Clancy, Karen – Coming Down the Mountain, Doralynn – My Publishing Diary, Morgan Shamy, Sher A Hart, Tina @ Life is Good, Julia – Writing Jewels, Hope Roberson, and Rusty Webb.
Perhaps you never signed up or didn’t post a couple months in a row and were removed, but I invite all of you to sign up HERE. That way other members can find you. And I don’t want you to be missed!

Mina Lobo revealed the cover to her upcoming book, That Fatal Kiss, set for release September 24. Looks awesome, Mina!

Finally, thanks to everyone who participated in the Anti-Blogfest Gary Fest. I think we rocked Gary’s anti-blogfest world. All links go directly to the post so you can go back if you missed anyone.
And if you think my Urinal Cake Flavors Blogfest sounded disgusting, you should’ve seen the images that came up in a Google search. Why anyone would bake a tiny cake and set it in a urinal is beyond me…

The Star Trek chart is sending my in a "wh-wh-whaat"! mode. I felt that list is the worst, the first couple are correct. Floored on the last, it was a good film. I cannot believe that if fans want to see more films and keep this franchise breathing, well don't throw this under the bus wheel. Agreed Galaxy Quest is a wonderful film and it pays homage to many science fiction films like Star Trek...

Sean McLachlan said...

Agree with numbers one and two, debatable on the rest. I don't like the parallel reality storyline they've come up with for the new movies. Seems like a cop out for me. Of course, a lot of younger viewers probably haven't seen the earlier films.

Vanessa Morgan said...

I was a huge Star Trek fan when I was a child, but once the second season aired they lost me.

Laughing Ferret said...

I'd have put both of the new alt-timeline Star Trek movies higher, I thought they were quite good. A lot of the Next Gen movies didn't feel 'big' enough to merit a movie, a couple felt like extended TV episodes, but First Contact was good..best of the next gen movies and in my top 3 overall I'm sure. Galaxy Quest could contend for a top 3 spot.

I knew quite a few of the spaceship trivia (i won't spoil by typing the names here), but drawing a blank on some I feel I should know.

Sheena-kay Graham said...

Star Trek is cool in many ways. Mina's cover rocks and Ashes is beyond words. You're welcome about Gary fest.

Rhonda Albom said...

I was just in Las Vegas last weekend, not that it is really relevant. Sorry to admit it, but I am not a Star Trek fan. I also can't help Robyn. As for the trivia questions, the best I can do is #6 - Jupiter One?. I guess I am not to useful here today :(

Brian Miller said...

saw into the darkness this weekend...it was good...interesting the parallels to the wrath of khan...which is def my fav...at first i was like galaxy quest? but yeah its good...and we have it...and watch it every so often...ha...

ok, total geek here, but...i own a bat leth...a real one, steel and leather...yep, hangs in my library....

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Jeremy, I was stunned! It's the highest grossing Star Trek ever as well.

Sean, but now they are free to do whatever they want.

Laughing Ferret, agree with you on the Star Trek movies. I still enjoyed the ones that felt like extended episodes, if only because I'm such a Trek junkie.

Rhonda, you got it!

Brian, that is awesome - I own one as well!!!

Galaxy Quest is one of our FAVORITE movies. It's just THAT good.

Optimistic Existentialist said...

I cannot WAIT to see Interstellar, Nolan is a genius. I think Into Darkness is the best of the bunch, personally. Now to be fair I haven't seen some of the older ones.

Sandra Ulbrich Almazan said...

Another person here who felt some of the NG movies weren't epic enough to be movies.

Humm, they're making a movie that uses a wormhole? I'll have to watch it to take notes.

Natalie Aguirre said...

Not sure about the rankings, but I loved Galaxy Quest. It's one of the few movies I've seen multiple times.

Louise said...

Kind of shocked that Generations wasn't the very bottom of that list. And yeah, First Contact is my all-time favorite ST movie, too. It completely and totally freaked me out the first time I watched it (teenager alone at home at night, not my brightest move ever), but no way was I going to turn it off!

Still haven't had a chance to watch Into Darkness, but I'm looking forward to it, whenever the opportunity arises.

Congratulations to Brandon! The book looks awesome. Mina's book cover looks pretty fantastic, too.

Pat Hatt said...

haha awesome they added galaxy quest. I've only seen like 3 Star Trek movies.

Serenity is one answer, know the movies/tv shows, but ship name, not so much.

Tonja said...

We just bought all of the original episodes and the original movies. My preschooler LOVES them (yay!) but wants to watch Star Trek the Motion Picture over and over again. The beginning part is fun but the last half is ... well ... really stupid.

Yolanda Renée said...

Truly enjoyed Galaxy Quest!
Mina is rocking the book world with an awesome cover and book!

I'm late, but going to visit all the blogs from the blog fest == what fun!

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Whisk, yes it is!

Optimistic, Nolan IS a genius.

Natalie, and so easy to quote!

Louise, I'm shocked Star Trek V isn't at the bottom. It's the one Trek film I'll never watch again.

Pat, correct, and you need more Trek in your life...

Tonja, a wise purchase! Not sure i could sit through the first one many times though.

Huntress said...

I gave up on NG. Some of them I've seen like First Contact but I don't remember much.

I'd put the first Star Trek movie higher. I watched the original TV program and was crushed when they canceled it. So when that movie hit the theaters, it was a Big Thing. The transporter scene still gets me.

Also, I like the JJ Abrams versions of ST better than some of the NG series.

Great books highlighted. Go authors! It was a hoot reading Gary's posts on Facebook in reaction to the fest. :)

Huntress said...

W/O cheating:
Nostromo #2
Apollo 13 #9

Can't remember #3 but will smack my head when I see it. *as in, Of Course*

Brandon Ax said...

I kind of wish I was a bigger fan of ST. I did watch quite a bit of the shows. I have yet to see into the darkness, but he first of the new movies was awesome.

Also thanks for posting about the book, it comes out the 20th.

And now you made me miss Firefly, time to stick the DVDs back in.

Congrats to Brandon! Love Mina's cover!

And I know what show #4 is, but I can't remember the name of the spaceship.

Juliana Haygert said...

Wow, I love the cover of Ashes by Brandon Ax. So pretty!
Congrats!

The Angry Lurker said...

I could name more of the movies than the ships but apart from "Wrath of Khan" the new ones should be higher as a lot of the Trek movies are very dated now.

Sarah Ahiers said...

Yeah i would put Into Darkness much higher. And also, if you're going to have Galaxy quest in there (and why would you) it would also be much higher.

I'm super excited about the new Nolan film. It sounds right up my alley.

I know almost all of the trivia sources, but i don't actually know many of the ship's names...

Stephen Tremp said...

The Futurama ship is called The Planet Express. Still love that show!

Interstellar sounds really cool! What a star studded cast.

And into the darkness is playing at the dollar theatre (which is really two dollars) so I'll see that again on Friday.

Jennie Bennett said...

I thought Into the Darkness would be way higher. Funny. And I LOVE that Galaxy Quest is included. one of my favorite movies :)

Andrew Leon said...

In that case, the best Star Trek movie ever was definitely Galaxy Quest. The Abrams ones are the only other ones that make the list after that.

Danette said...

I haven't seen all the Star Trek movies (I watched the TV shows not so much the movies) but I think Wrath of Khan was far and away the best movie. I didn't care for TNG going to movie but I would say First Contact was probably the best of the lot but I don't know if I would place it 2nd. In fact the list is probably not in the order I would have chosen at all but I think Galaxy Quest being on there is cool. I would say that Trekkies are a pretty varied group and they kind of cluster together...likely the ones who responded to this poll were of a similar mind on what they liked. either that or one of the person who did the poll put out the call to his other trekkie buddies that all liked the same movies. It's easy to skew polls.

Cathy Olliffe-Webster said...

Into Darkness would have been my first choice! I loooove the new Star Trek movies and, ahem, have a bit of a thing for Chris Pine... The cast of Interstellar sounds, well, STELLAR! Sounds like a must-see.... and congrats to all the hardworking authors you mention here. Wow, everyone's so darned busy!

Jeremy [Retro] said...

I think it's because they took the idea of Wrath of Khan and switched it... the idea that they are following the pattern of the original show and mixing it with the films is good and bad. Trek fans are still miffed that they re-wrote the history for future generations to see, so much that it could hurt the shows and films we know and love.

msmariah said...

Alex-- I agree with you. 'First Contact' was and still is the best Star Trek film I've seen. Jonathan Frakes did one heck of a job. I do think 'The Wrath of Khan' is up there, but not number #1. I also liked 'Undiscovered Country.' But I'm surprised 'The Voyage Home' ranked so high. That one was not so good. IMO, Nemesis and Insurrection were the worst. I'm ashamed to admit that I haven't seen 'Into the Darkness' yet. I had the baby in May, so I don't think I left the house that month or in June!

Suze said...

Okay, first of all, totally awesome post. I mean it, this was so much fun to read. Secondly, yeah. Sorry. But STID deserves its last-place spot, IMO. But I think you probably already knew that ...

All right, spaceship trivia--too cool! Let's see:

1.
2.
3. I know this is Space Balls and I know you don't want the movie. Hmm, what was the name of ship? Lonestar. Just jokin'. I'm out on this one.

4.
5.
6.

7. Argh. ARGH. Scanning memory banks at ludicrous speed. Trillian. Ha. Kidding, again. 42! No. Out again. Will kick myself when I read the answer.
8. The Glass Elevator.

9. APOLLO 13!! (Also, one of my favorite films. Extremely well-done, score and all.)

Unknown said...

I like the concept of High Moon, and the name. I wonder if they are going for a Sci Fi western much like Firefly.

Al Penwasser said...

Despite competition from the newer movies, I still think The Wrath of Khan is the best. I agree with you, Into Darkness should be MUCH higher (at least higher than the dreadful Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Star Trek III, Star Trek: Insurrection, and Star Trek V). Although, while I like the actor playing Khan in Into Darkness, I am CONVINCED the producers didn't want to have anyone other than a WHITE guy play someone named 'Khan.' I think they were terrified of being accused of racism.

Roland D. Yeomans said...

High Moon does have a Sci Fi/Western feel to it. I would rank INTO THE DARKNESS after GAlAXY QUEST. :-)

Shame on anyone who misses Nostromo and Serenity!

Maurice Mitchell said...

That chart is pretty accurate Alex, even if it does add a none Trek film. I wonder if they'll add Abramms Star Wars? I hadn't heard much about Interstellar, ut it sounds interesting. Finally, I wish I knew how to recover comments but that happened to use years ago and we had to just live with it.

1. Black Hole
2. Alien
3. Spaceballs (Yaaay Jeremy for reminding me of the film!)

RaShelle Workman said...

I loved Into the Darkness. So much. The others were good too.

Heather M. Gardner said...

I wouldn't call myself a Trekkie but I have seen every movie on this list and I actually got pissed when I read it.

These fans can't have it both ways.

They get all superior about their knowledge of the Trek world and then think its funny to add Galaxy Quest into the mix. It is an awesome movie but either take your list seriously or don't. And you can't tell me that the whale movie was better than any of these! It's not possible.

I think the new movies are great. The way they solved the age issue was brilliant.

Okay, rant over.

My brain hurts from my rant but I know Nostromo (sp?) and Serenity are in the trivia answers for sure.

Happy week-end writing and editing!

Heather

I just discovered there is a "Trouble with Tribbles" re-enactment that happens every Thursday night in a Portland park. We just might NEED to see that before we leave. I'm not a huge Star Trek fan, but I do love a Tribble!

I just love Brandon's cover. Had to say that. :)

Regarding IWSG: I wish people would include their current list number when they comment on posts. It would make it SO much easier to find them for a return visit!
(Many have Google+ now, and it takes too long and too many clicks to find their blog address/link. I'd rather just go there via the Linky list. Just my 2c.)

I gotta love a ninja who holds First Contact in such high esteem. The ranking to my mind gets it right in some places, but very wrong in others. I actually like Final Frontier, and so what you will about Into Darkness, but there's no way it's worse than Final Frontier. But then, the person who put it together is obviously a Wrath of Khan diehard, so it only figures.

Deniz Bevan said...

Ooh, I can actually get some of these trivia questions!
#3 is Spaceball 1, #4 is... the Professor's ship. Does it have a name?
#7 is... darn, the golden thing, the one Zaphod stole. I've forgotten its name.
#8 is the Great Glass Elevator!

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Huntress, you got two!

Brandon, you're welcome, and at least I was close with the release date.

Karen, we need to talk.

LG, prepare to be Tribbled!!

Fran, and that is the bummer about them being dated. Agreed the new ones should be higher.

Stephen, you got it!

Andrew, no way!

Danette, and the fact this was done at a convention, which attracts the die hards and the 'get a life' people shows it was skewed.

Jeremy, but by rewriting it, then can now go in a whole new direction.

MsMariah, we can cut you some slack. I did enjoy The Voyage Home though.

Suze, you have two and a half right - so close on number three.

David, that would be AWESOME.

Al, possibly!

Roland, yeah!

Maurice, she lost her whole comment box and can't get it back! Right on the films - now what's the name of the spaceships?

Heather, either Trek dies or it continues with the new ones - I'd rather it continues. And you are correct.

Lee, you're right about the printers.

Robyn, hope someone can help you.

Johanna, you have to see that before you move!!

Melissa, the Google+ makes it tough sometimes.

Tony, thank you, and Darkness should've been higher.

Robin said...

I read the comments on this post (I don't usually) and found myself thinking, "Yeah, what he said," or "I think that, too." One of the most relevant ones was that rating the new Star Trek movie Into The Darkness at last place seems stupid (and just wrong) if you want the franchise to stay alive. I haven't seen the movie yet (I did see the first "new" movie) and it was great. I heard wonderful things about the second, so I don't understand the last place writing. Some of the original Star Trek movies were Awesome (I totally agree about The Wrath of Khan), but others were not. I don't even remember which one had the whales in it, but it was NOT good.

Based on the reaction to this list, I don't know who was doing the voting, but maybe they were drugged????

You forced me to stick my nose against the screen in order to read the titles of the Star Trek movies. I'm really not that good in identifying them just by the image (which probably speaks of my level of knowledge). Except for the Wrath of Khan and the newest two, I don't remember the others.

The dragon has very bad memory it seems, I can't remember the name of the Robinson's ship or the name of Dark Helmet's ship. And I didn't even know Willy Wonka had a ship! Must have been the emo Lady Gaga version of Willy Wonka...hmmm.

VikLit said...

I'd put Into Darkness higher too!

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Deniz, you got two, and yes, it has a name.

Robin, they weren't thinking ahead. Yes, if we want the franchise to continue, it's going to be with the new movies.

DG, that's right! And thanks.

Carrie-Anne, obviously she didn't go to that Con...

Al, I'll give you a hint - the ship is named after the second Willy Wonka book.

I would rank Into Darkness #1, new Star Trek #2, Galaxy Quest, The originals: 2, 3, 4, 6, 1, 5

I definitely know Serenity and Jupiter. I don't remember the names of the other ships. Bad, huh?

PK HREZO said...

I have to agree with the Into Darkness ranking. I just wasnt as impressed with it as I hoped. And as Ilima says above me, it was far too predictable. I'd say the chart is pretty good on the whole, actually. I'm one of those rare peeps who loved the first one with V-Ger.
LOL to urinal cake flavors!!!

I used to love the Star Trek programmes years ago, saw a few of the movies, but Kirk and Bones started getting older and fatter and I didn't think it worked any more. Haven't seen any Patrick Stewart movies (I don't think) but I liked the TV series with him as captain.

Only question I knew was the last one, International Space Station, Hadsfield was, after all, one of ours.

Yes, I love Christopher Nolan's films!

I personally think the hate for Abrams era Trek is bizarre. I love the recent movies. First Contact might be my fav Trek film though - but probably because that was the most epic of the next gen flicks. The others were cheesier than I'd prefer.

Still I do love the first one, a lot, and 2 and 6. 3,4,7 & 9 are all about the same to me. With only 5 being a travesty. Oh, not sure how I feel about Nemisis. Can't remember a thing about it. I'll probably rewatch soon to see if that helps.

J E Oneil said...

I'd make quite a few changes (First Contact would definitely be first). I'd put Nemesis waaaay lower on the list. Like I'd have to get several other sheets of paper to rank it low enough.

As for the questions, I only know number 2 (Nostromo) and 4 (Planet Express Ship "Bessie").

Mark Means said...

I have to agree with Wrath of Khan at the top spot, though I think I'd rank Undiscovered Country a bit lower and not above the new Trek films.

I'm not good at remembering the names of the films but my favorites were the one where the people don't age and time can be made to slow down. Data's boobs were firming up. LOL
Second favorite is the one with the whales. Who doesn't like whales and Spock got to be funny.

Just the cast alone makes me want to see Interstellar.

I know NONE of the spaceships off the top of my head...although I have seen most of those shows/movies.

I so remember Lost In Space.

Donna K. Weaver said...

Alex, maybe you're too young to remember. When Classic ST went off the air, it was before syndication. It was just gone. No videotapes. No DVDs. Just gone. It wasn't until I was in college that syndication brought it back. Two and a half seasons was it. We were starving for fresh material. I think that's what saved the franchise because that first movie was les bad cinema. But the Trekkers like me went to see it in droves. So they made another one. Wrath of Kahn was everything that had made the original series wonderful. It was like the old Star Trek was back. When they killed Spock off, I felt like a member of my family had died.

Maybe it's one of those things you have to experience in its time to really understand the judging like that. It's my guess. For me, the next would be the 4th movie and then the new Star Trek movie.

Unknown said...

Interstellar sounds great! I dunno about that Star Trek ranking. I love each and every one of those films and couldn't choose between them, but if someone held a gun to my head and forced me to rank them, my list would look nothing like that...

Unknown said...

I haven't seen most of the Star Trek movies...but Galaxy Quest was awesome! Intersteller sounds pretty sweet and has in interesting cast. Have a great weekend!

A Beer for the Shower said...

I've only seen the "new" Star Trek movies, and I enjoyed them. I suppose my opinion might be different had I seen the others, but either way, I thought they were decent. Really though, out of all of those, I think I'm most ashamed to say I haven't seen Galaxy Quest. Might have to remedy that...

farawayeyes said...

I never would have thought about rating the ST movies. I do hope the franchise continues. My all time favorite 'Galaxy Quest'. Surprised, but glad it made the list.

Unknown said...

I need to get back into IWSG posting, so I've added my name back to the list :)

Tonja Drecker said...

Yay, Brandon and Mina! I love both covers.
So glad Galaxy Quest was included. It definitely deserved it. I was a little surprised by the order of the movies, but then I never have the same opinion as all the rest anyway ;)

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Words, correct! And not a bad ranking.

Chuck, at least you know that show.

Donna, I wish I was too young to remember! Yes, I went to see that first film, desperate for any Trek. The cartoon series hadn't been enough.

Brandon and Bryan, you HAVE to watch Galaxy Quest!!!

Rachel, awesome!

T. obviously no one here does either.

Mark Koopmans said...

I'm just giggling here 'cos I didn't even know there was more than three ST movies, and now I find out there's been THIRTEEN?

Isn't there a dead dog that's been beaten maybe once or twice too much - or are they still as good as the first?

Cavanaugh, dude, how are we even friends with such different tastes...

You're into SciFi and I'm like "they have a SciFy channel???

You like urinal cakes and I like Tiramasu :)

I suppose it as simple as "Strange is as Strange does :)

Love the cover of The Lotus Caves. Looks very 1970s. I have quite a collection of old SF paperbacks because I'm enchanted with the art.

I've seen all the Star Trek movies and it's just too hard to say which one is better... at least for me.

LOVE trivia!

1: The Black Hole
2: Alien
3: SPACEBALLS!
4: Futurama
5: FIREFLY!
6: Lost in Space
7: The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy
8: Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
9: Apollo 13 (went with the disaster and not Apollo 11, eh? :) )

Misha Gerrick said...

I have to say, Into the Darkness made me want to turn into a Trekkie. Not sure how that's what makes a bad movie. :-/

And yep, I'm in the IWSG list. And almost half-way higher than I was when I entered.

mooderino said...

Into Darkness's remake of ST2 (the most beloved of the ST movies) probably didn't do it any favours. Felt like the safe and easy route, rather than to boldly go...

*yells* "Khan!!!"
As long as Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan is ranked number one, I'm good! *laughs* I don't care what happens after that!
How are you doing, Alex? I hope life is treating you well. Have a great weekend!

My favorite Star Trek movie will always be The Journey Home. "Captain, there be whales here!" Loved it!

And I'm totally ignorant about the spaceships... sigh.

I don't know enough about all of the Star Trek movies to know about the order- but the beginning looks pretty good to me. :)

You know what's funny, I've been thinking lately about the Star Trek movies and what one is the best, because I haven't seen all of them and was going to have a star trek marathon...lol

Shah Wharton said...

Oh flip, Interstella sounds awesome! Looking forward to that. :) X

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Mark! One can never have too many Star Trek movies. Ever. And you have some catching up to do with Trek movies.
We may have different tastes, but we do have common ground - we both love the Lord.

AJ, I have all of Arthur C. Clark's old style books.

Dara, you got all but one right - in books - but can you name the spaceships?

Moody, but now they can boldly go...

Hey James!

Melanie, a marathon would be fun.

Michelle Gregory said...

well, i know that one of them is Serenity and the other is The Odyssey from Apollo 13(however you spell that). can *you* name a recent Tom Cruise movie that uses a spaceship called Odyssey? or maybe you have it listed up there and i didn't see it.

Unknown said...

I would have done the same, Alex...flip the first two. I've never been a die-hard trekkie (except for Next Generation), but I've loved ALL the movies. First Contact is also my fave.

I'm a Trekie too:) First Contact rocks! But I also love the new films as well:)

Being a good Canadian girl, I grew up watching James T. Kirk battle the galaxy. My hero! I have to pick the first one. The thrill of going to the theatre and seeing James T. Kirk on the big screen. My heart was fluttering and my palms were sweaty. Ahh... the joy of it all. Hard to replicate that first time.

Ray Rousell said...

Give me any Star Trek and I'll be happy!!!

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Michelle, yes! Purchased it last week.

Joylene, I think you are having flashbacks!

Amen to that, Ray.

4. Planet Express !!!!
5. Serenity !!!!

I got nothing for the rest. lol

I've only seen 4 of the Star Treks, so I can't really say whether or not I agree with this list. I'd probably push Wrath of Khan behind First Contact, though. lol

Laura S. said...

The Voyage Home is my favorite Star Trek movie! I'm really enjoying the reboot, too. I haven't seen Into Darkness yet, but it's coming up in my Netflix queue soon. :)

Happy reading and writing! from Laura Marcella @ Wavy Lines

I cruised around reading some of the Anti-Blogfest Gary posts and got pretty tickled. Other bloggers are a lot more clever and creative than I am.

Oh come on now, those SYFY original movies must cost nearly a couple hundred dollars to make.

Make it so, number one. I always like that Star Trek one with "VGA". also.

As we both know, all too well, it can be very difficult to keep up and indeed contact everybody you would like to. I know you do your best and I might suggest some extra clones.

I'm noting your links. I'm absolutely thrilled for Mina Lobo. A lovely lady and a good friend.

I think urine trouble with such a cake. I do appreciate the irony and the kind thoughts passed on amongst those who participated in the irony of ironies, anti-blogfest. Kudos to all involved, to the co-hosts and yes that dude, Mark Koopmans!

I wish I could be of more help. Take care, I must continue on..

I'd rank the J.J. Abrams Star Treks near the top, and Galaxy Quest was a hoot that got so much so right about the franchise I'll always love it.

BTW, there's a small profile of J.J. Abrams in a recent Vanity Fair. It seems a grade school teacher thought he was a weird kid who probably needed help. I wonder if she knows that he grew up to be normal and brilliant.

I'm so glad I'm not alone with thoughts on Into Darkness. I really didn't think it should have come in last.
I loved it, and went to see it three times (ssshhh, don't tell anyone!) and would put it as one of my favourites.

It's definitely up there with First Contact, and awesome Trek movie.

Lots of great looking new books out there. As for the Star Trek movies, I prefer the recent ones over the old.

Nicki, at least a hundred into marketing, right?

Gary, glad you enjoyed your anit-blogfest blogfest.

Heather, exactly! Best movie this year as well.

Into Darkness was excellent.

Within the Star Trek universe I have my favorite series. It was and it will ever be Deep Space Nine.

The graphic was too small for me to see the rankings, and wouldn't enlarge. Oh well, then you won't have to listen to me complain about how wrong they got it and why.
Signed myself up on the IWSG list. I looked for myself on there last week and couldn't find myself, but blamed it on me just being too tired. I signed up again. I did miss a few around the challenge, and then afterwards when scheduling guests was a full time job...
As to the trivia, I know #2,5!, 7 and 9.

Alex, it's already one of our favorite movies. kind of reminds us of the strangeness of The Matrix and the mind-bending of Inception. we love that the hero gives his life and still gets the girl.

Hi Alex .. just back from my travels - the Anti-Gary blogfest seems to have been fun - I have to visit everyone yet!?!?

I'd better see how Gary is doing ..

Happy weekend .. Hilary

Liesel K. Hill said...

The blogfest was way fun. I was surprised by the Star Trek rankings as well. I would have ranked Into Darkness much higher, but the same is true of Insurrection, which was one of my faves. Nemesis would have been a bit below it, and I understand why it's not a fan fave, but behind Star Trek: The Motion Picture? Really. That was like the most boring ST movie ever! Nemesis wasn't THAT bad.

John Wiswell said...

Christopher Nolan wants to do a new SciFi story? Then I am in. Inception and Memento were incredible, and it's good to have him back to making new stories.

And if Galaxy Quest is on the list, then it's my #1. I'd also have 2009 and Into Darkness near the very tippy top, along with The One With the Whales.

I'll have to get the answers to those spaceship names on Monday. I'm a total loser on this one.

Sorry about Robyn's issue. I wish I could help, but sadly lack the talent for that.

Congrats on those new books, authors!

I sense a Star Trek movie marathon creeping up in my future. Although, First Contact will always be my favorite. Hope you have a fabulous weekend!

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Edi, that will always be my favorite series as well.

Tina, glad you signed up again! Sorry I couldn't send everyone an email.

Miranda, it is!

Liesel, I thought it was really boring as well. Only Star Trek V would be below it.

John, Nolan is a genius. And the whale one was The Voyage Home, IV.

Tara, they are getting a little long...

Caitlin, you have good taste in films.

Interstellar sounds exciting with an idea and a cast like that!
I don't think I can agree on those Star Trek movie ratings, but I do like the addition of Galaxy Quest.
Um, trivia. You know I didn't sleep much last night due to the fact that I was kept up by C. Lee Mckenzie's excellent book, The Princess of Los Pulgas. (I thought I would only read a few chapters . . . and it grabbed me and I read until after midnight)
Have a great weekend, Alex!

Nigel G Mitchell said...

I don't understand including Galaxy Quest in a ranking for Star Trek movies.

Carrie Butler said...

It's a good thing #5 isn't listed under movies! Otherwise, it would be such a trick question.

That would be Serenity, not to be confused with... Serenity. *grins*

Ah, my favorite Firefly class transport ship. What a way to start the weekend!

Shannon Lawrence said...

Really, Khan is first? The Star Trek film of my nightmares? (In the EARS!!!) Okay, I'm not actually a Trekkie, so couldn't tell you, but I'm married to one and my parents were fans, so I've absorbed them distantly. The one with the whales always struck me as weird and disjointed from the series, so I would rank it last, but maybe I'm way off base there.

2-Alien
3-Spaceballs
4-Futurama
5-Firefly
6-Lost in Space? Danger Will Robinson!
7-Hitchhiker's Guide
8-Glass Elevator?
9-Apollo...13?

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Wanda, it was scary...

Charmaine, good point.

Nigel, I don't either, but since it is an awesome movie and obviously playing on the Trek fanatics, I'll let it slide.

Carrie, that would mess with someone's mind, wouldn't it?

Shannon, I'd place it in the middle. And with the trivia - now name the spsceship.

Susan, thanks! Wish I were more involved there.

2. The Nostromo
3. Spaceball One
4. Planet Express Ship
5. Serenity
6. Jupiter 2
