QUIRKY - A to Z Challenge

It’s the third A to Z Challenge! Blog the letters of the alphabet in order every day except Sundays The participation list is HERE – start with the blog after yours and visit at least five blogs a day. Mostly, make new friends and have fun!

My theme – I have selected a word for each day and will present to you blogger buddies who fit that description, along with movies, music, etc. My theme is to give back, highlight some awesome bloggers, and have fun in the process.

QUIRKY

Siv at Been There Done That
Siv is one of those spirits who feels so free. She’s passionate about her kids and her country. She knows more about Norse mythology than anyone I know. And just when you think you understand, along comes Minnie! Siv and Minnie have gibberish down to a science and they always invite us to join the madness. Quirky or not, I just adore Siv and hope she stays with us for a very long time.

Tonja at Tonja’s Musings
Perhaps quirky isn’t the right word for Tonja. And yet, I never know what to expect when visiting her blog. She could be having a good day, a bad day, or a weird day. Despite her mood for the day, I always feel a connection with Tonja. If she ever stopped blogging, it would be a very sad day indeed.

Farscape
When I think of the word quirky, this show always pops into my brain. Farscape deals with a group of aliens who have escaped the corrupt intergalactic authority known as the Peacekeepers aboard a living ship named Moya. They are joined by American astronaut John Crichton who has been flung through a wormhole while testing an experimental aircraft for NASA. What other word could be used for a show where the main character’s brain is inhabited by his arch-enemy who inserts himself into all of John’s memories. Yup….Quirky!

NINJA NEWS!

Kittie Howard’s book "Remy Broussard's Christmas," is available on Amazon with every penny's commission going to the Wounded Warrior Foundation. It’s a great cause and her book is only 99 cents!

David Powers King posted a review of CassaFire – and it was good! All you fans who wanted a romantic interest – well, you got one! Now go enjoy.

Following Siv and Tonja? Ever watch Farscape? (And if you did, who was your favorite character?) Any causes near and dear to your heart like Kitties’s? And quirky! Come on people – who do you know who is quirky? Or would you like to share something quirky? Try not to scare anyone… (Cassie, this means YOU!)

Lurker, you mean Chiana?

I'm going to have to go look up Farscape. It sounds familiar, but can't place it. First, I'm off to meet two new bloggers.

I think the quirkiest blog i follow is Copyboy - his "guess the rash" series instantly came to mind...

Unknown said...

Thanks Alex! So glad you didn't use the word Queer to describe me. Although come to think of it, I might just be a bit queer as well :/ Never heard about Farscape but it sounds like something I would like. Over here though I would probably have to obtain it illegally. I love Tonjas blog and it has been fun visiting all the blogs you bring up during the challenge. Not many letters left....Going to miss this.

Unknown said...

I know that I have watched Farscape, but I really cannot recall too much about it, I would need to refresh my memory to pick a favourite character.

A character I think is quirky is Sheldon from Big Bank Theory! He cracks me up!

Brinda said...

I visit Tonja to hear about her day all the time! I'll visit Sid and WOOT, WOOT for romance in Book 2. ;)

michelle said...

I love the word quirky... I always link it to "quirky charm" which is a hard to define yet highly desirable characteristic (in my opinion).
I think it's a special, unique personality trait.
I've been to Tonja's place... not sure if I've popped in to Siv's place yet...
Gosh, the letter Q is such a challenge. Will be interesting to see what others come up with...

Jeremy [Retro] said...

I am not a watcher of Farscape, not for the lack of trying... I just never got into anything outside of the Star Trek Universe.

Long Live, and Prosper... Dick Clark.

Someone I find Quirky... recently Sheldon Cooper, Morgan Grimes and older...Mork from Ork!

Rusty Carl said...

Farscape! One of my favorite shows. I think it took them a bit to hit their stride, but once they did, man, that was one amazing experience.

I try to visit Tonja every time she posts... Siv is new to me.

I saw that review of CassaStar too. Good stuff.

Tonja said...

Thanks, Alex! That was a surprise. :)

Talli Roland said...

Ooh, big congrats to Kitty! Fantastic! And I must pop over and visit Siv. It's been a while.

I've always wanted to watch Farscape but never had to time to do it cuz of all the other shows I've invested my time in...like The Walking Dead and Breaking Bad! :)

I think you're quirky. But that's a good thing.

Farscape was quirky indeed!

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Lisa, yes he is at the top of the quirky list!

Siv, you're welcome! And glad you've enjoyed my theme. Think I'll miss it as well.

CM, Sheldon is a good pick!

Brinda, I gave the fans what they wanted.

Michelle, some quirk is indeed charming.

Thanks, Rusty!

Tonja, hopefully a good surprise.

Jack, there's only so many hours in the day...

Thanks, Clariass!

Karen Jones Gowen said...

I would have picked Rusty for this letter :)

I never got into Farscape. As much as I love everything sci-fi, I just couldn't get into it.

Quirky blogs rock!

Dave said...

I love Farscape. Any show that creates a new vernacular just for swearing in is alright by me.

Scorpio was a great villain and that would be enough for most shows, but to have Harvey in the mix (and in the protagonist's brain) as well was genius.

The blue one was Zhaan.

Robyn Campbell said...

*thumps fingers* Farscape. The name rings a bell, but I can't place it. Must look it up now though. I love quirky.

Will visit these pals of yours. I don't know either of them.

Thank you award should go to Kittie. What a super thing she is doing. *applause* I mean that. The Wounded Warrior Foundation is awesome. Everyone buy this book!

My son has a rare brain disorder called Sturge-Weber Syndrome. That is my cause Alex. But the wounded warrior project is a great thing. Thanks for telling us about Kittie. *waving and smiling*

I know and follow Tonja and I found Siv through an incredible experience. Love her stuff.

No TV, BUT Farscape sounds like a show I would enjoy.

What no Q music?

Karen Lange said...

Not following these blogs but will have to check them out. Like your choice for the letter Q!

Julie Dao said...

I don't know why, but I read "Michael Crichton" when I saw "John Crichton" in your description of Farscape and was like ??? They turned him into a sci-fi character?!

Rachel Schieffelbein said...

I love quirky. :) I will check these guys out.

Heather M. Gardner said...

I almost used quirky!
Love Siv and Tonja. Regular follower.
I think I saw some of Farscape but I didn't become obsessed, I mean, it didn't catch on with me!
Causes that stick with me? Donating blood, the library and the volunteer fire fighters.
See you tomorrow!

Oh Farscape! I used to watch that show all the time. Another quirky one like that, and another favorite, has to be Mystery Science Theater 3000. Gotta love those quirky shows! :)

Unknown said...

There's a girl in my office, Amy, who is definitely quirky. A lot of others in the office don't get her. I just downloaded Cassastar (I'm behind, I know) and bumped it to the top of my list to read next. :)

Quirks are what make characters great in early seasons of TV series, and over-exploitation of quirks is what tanks those same series around the 4th or 5th season.

Sarah Ahiers said...

Ooh! I love farscape. What a great show!

I was already following Siv, but now I'm following Tonja. Quirky characters are fun too. Congrats about the review of CassaFire!

Farscape sounds interesting. Wonder if I can get it on Netflix? I don't bother with TV anymore. I'm tired of being sold toothpaste, vitamins and tennis shoes. :-)

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Robyn, I'm sorry. Is there a foundation for that disorder?

Faraway, ran out of room.

Julie, that's funny!

Amy, MST3K rocked!

Michael, thanks.

I know both Siv & Tonja. And I simply adore Kittie & her story treasures! I've never heard of Farscape though. And of course, I'm an old(er) gal so I've known a lot of quirky people (Cassie came to mind rather quickly). But my brother-in-law is the hands-down quirkiest person I've ever met, as well as gentle soul.

The word quirky makes me giggle, not sure why, haha!

Someone mentioned Galaxy Quest and dude, that movie rocks!

So, quirky thing... I title all my emails cuz I don't like blank subject lines, but sometimes I have no idea what to say so I'll spout off something that'll get someone's attention. Well, the last email I sent was titled, "I need me some sex!" and I sent it to all my cps, and the email had nothing to do with the subject line, just me asking about our group blog.

Hubs pulled out the computer and my email was up. He looked at me and was like, um... shouldn't this email be going to me?

That wasn't too scary, right? ;)

D.G. Hudson said...

Never heard of Farscape but I don't watch much TV.

I'm following Siv, since this blogfest, and Tonja for a while.
Quirky is usually interesting, and shows an active mind.

I'll be starting on CassaStar this weekend and will read CassaFire after that. I'll let you know when I review them both. Thanks for the stopover at my blog.

Rawknrobyn.blogspot.com said...

I'm pretty quirky and admire others who are too. So thanks for the referrals. I think I'm already following one or both, but I'll check.

And isn't it a weird, annoying blog quirk that when you are waiting on a really, really important follower to take you to a big number, that follower is slower to arrive than the others? Smiles. I'm sure the next time I visit, you'll be there.

I rather liked Farscape, but I liked it even better when some of the cast moved over to Stargate.

Maurice, thought about Tales From a Parallel Universe as well.

Tyrean, those are great causes.

Cassie, not scary, but definitely funny!!!

DG, thank you! I appreciate that.

Robyn, thanks. I just need ONE!

The SyFy actors all seem to move from show to show.

And Congrats! to Kitty Howard and best wishes for Remy Broussard's Christmas!

I love Farscape! What a perfect choice for quirky. It's hard to pick one favorite character since I like each of them for their own reasons. I like Aeryn since she's like a heroine I'd write. Yet D'Argo and Chiana are my favorites. I also loved Moya. I wanted my own ship like that. I knew a guy who was obsesses with Zhaan/Virginia Hey. She'd come often to Gen Con and he'd be there the entire time, trying to watch her and following her. Virginia hasn't come back to Gen Con for a few years now!

Unknown said...

After the "Cassie, this means YOU!) at the end of your post, I had to look for her comment... and it was pretty funny! Perhaps I should try something like that with my email subject lines!

Cassie, you crack me up, completely! So funny!!!!

Quirky, oh gosh, I have so many I don't know where to begin!

One that people find most funny is when I enter a public bathroom, I immediately grab paper towels, I don't touch anything on the way into the stall, no doors, walls, knobs, or locks. Uh uh, not happening. Someone walked out of that stall not clean, right?? I'm not touching their door lock! Okay, that's one of my most quirkiest. Public bathrooms with automatic paper towel dispensers ROCK! I've walked out of many in my day.

Hart Johnson said...

I AM following both, but I haven't seen Farscape, and if it is what comes to mind when you think quirky, I will have to check it out!

Congrats on the review, Alex! Your shout-out helped. Thanks! ! Yep, CLNC three times (we're East Coast save for two tours at K-Bay); love CLNC. Have a house in a nearby county. Wish aliens could swoop down in their spaceship and get hub and I out of Northern Virginia.
