Character Interview Blogfest - Meet Byron

I happened to catch this blogfest yesterday at Echoes of a Wayward Mind and decided to participate with an interview of Byron, one of my main characters. During the time of this interview, Byron had just entered fighter pilot training...

You just began Cosbolt training - how do you like it so far?

The first week was a drag, nothing but sims and lectures, but I finally got some time in the Cosbolt. So far it's basic exercises and maneuvers. Stuff I could do in my sleep. I'm ready for a chance to show off my skills!

What are the instructors like?

Tough and demanding, which is no surprise. I've given them no reason to fault my flying, though. Trindel and I are perfect in the cockpit. For some damn reason, however, the lead instructor seems to have it out for me. I don't know why Bassa singled out our team, but it's annoying. Probably didn't like what he saw on my service record...

Tell us about your navigator, Trindel.

He's all right. He's hyperactive and his constant chatter makes me want to punch his ejection seat. A bit naive, too. But, beggars can't be choosers. No one else wanted to be my navigator and we were thrown together in desperation. So far it's worked out, though. I guess I trust him. He makes good decisions and we're jelling as a team.

Any other friends there on Guaard?

Not really. I'm not exactly the most popular guy here. Besides, I'm not here to make friends, I'm here to fly rings around these amateurs.

What's your goal?

To be the best damn Cosbolt pilot in the fleet!

And there you have it!

Thanks, ladies. I saw this just yesterday, so had to come up with the interview last night.

I keep thinking Top Gun and wondering why they aren't using nicknames for each other (unless they ARE and it just didn't seem that way to me).

And now I want to read your book.
Great interview!

Such a cool idea, thanks for pointing this out Alex. Heading over to the blog now.

With that attitude, he'd better be a true top gun. Quite an interesting interview.

Wow, I can really get a sense of the character by this little interview. He sounds very macho and I have a feeling he will be the one saving the day in your book.
Interesting post.

For a moment I thought you were on about Lord Byron the poet. However I thought this extremely clever and interesting to read.

Have a good day
Yvonne.

Hey, I think I ran into Byron in a Luna base bar once. Boy he could put down the neuron fizzes.

Haha this was funny and enlightening, I feel like his personality came through so beautifully! Great entry!

Thanks for participating, I hope you enjoyed doing this :)

What a cool idea. I loved this interview, it made me want to seek out the book and learn more about the universe!!

Go Byron! Love the name, by the way. Good to get to know one of your characters!

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Ted, you may call Trindel "Goose" if you like!

Rayna, that's good to know!

Maverick didn't have half of Byron's hangups, though.

Helen, he's cocky all right!

Thanks, Clarissa! You'll find out in October.

Thanks, Zoe!

Sugar, if there were any female characters in the book, I'm sure they could tell you.

Dez, have to get back to you on that.

Sangu, I did enjoy - thanks!

Miller - October!

Talli, the story has seen many changes and that name is one of the few things that stuck.

Sounds like a character begging for an attitude adjustment!

Fun! I decided not to do this blogfest because I don't want to know what my characters would say about/to me!

Hope to see Bryon in more blogfests...he sounds kickass.

Wow - you did a great job of getting his personality across in only a few lines - nice!!

Rigel said...

Oh, wow! I'm a big SF fan and I CANNOT wait to get my hands on a copy of Cassastar.

Two words: Byron. Rocks.

MC sounds cocky like a pilot! I don't know that I LIKE HIM LIKE HIM, but he is interesting enough that I'd like to see him put through some challenges, so good for drawing readers. You know what Trindel reminds me a little of? Have you read the Percy Jackson series where the ADHD of the demi-gods HELPS them in battle? THAT is what the hyperactive co-pilot reminds me of and I love it.

Great job!

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Diane, believe me, it gets some adjusting!

Thanks, Andrew!

Jemi, I really appreciate that! I read all of the other entries and they were so complex and intricate - made mine look so pathetic. But I'd really hoped his personality would shine through in the interview, short though it is.

Rigel, thank you! October 19th!

Kris and Kels, sometimes the characters need that, so it's okay. And thank you!

Hart, I've not read the books yet! And believe me, I run Byron through the wringer.

RaShelle Workman said...

This was fun. Cocky SOB isn't he? I like it. LOL

Karen Lange said...

This is a great idea. I'm going to have to give it a try. Thanks for passing it along!

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

RaShelle - YES!!!

Give it a try, Karen.

I was thinking somewhere between Top Gun and Luke Skywalker bragging about his skills. :) nicely done!

Clara said...

I really liked this! What a cocky ass, but Im really drawn to know more about him! =)

Definitely got the cocky pilot thing going but there is some personality coming out from this interview. Thanks so much for sharing.

Alex J. Cavanaugh said...

Thanks, Ladies! I know it's short, but I was hoping enough of Byron would shine through.

Unknown said...

Oh Alex I love it love it love it! It's so great to "hear" from Byron!

Great idea, great post!

Good idea Alex, I'll have to try that with ol' Chase Manhattan someday. Maybe have another character, like the protagonist, interview him.
